Olivia Carcosa stood at her bedroom window observing the chaos below. Marauders in the streets, trained soldiers and guardsmen being slaughtered like mere trainees by barbarians in fur and leather. Buildings set ablaze or being pillaged, yet only one enemy ship in the port. One. She knew little of war, but sea raiders were no threat back home -- the Carcosan Navy would have scuttled that ship before it came close to port. But it wasn't Olivia's homeland; it was the home of her betrothed. Her Husband to be, Lord Brom Imbrex, was away at war. Now that she was finally of age they could be wed when he returned! But with his knights and his best soldiers away, Castle Whiterose was not ready for a siege, much less an attack of such brutality!
Olivia saw the Marauders reach the courtyard. The gate guards fell quick. She had locked her door, barred it, and even knocked over her bookcase to barricade it further -- those damned barbarians would need to work to get to her! She had little to defend herself; shears, a small knife, and a hunting bow with only a dozen arrows... Whatever the Marauders wanted with her, she had no intention of going quietly.
Olivia set herself up carefully by the window, loosing her first arrow when she had a clear shot and steady aim. With a little luck it would kill the man she hit, and the other eleven would be equally deadly. It was unlikely to change the outcome of the day -- but she would fight them tooth and nail all the same.
