Daniel was tired. Oh so very tired. It had been an incredibly long flight. From the middle United States to the west coast, and from there all the way across the pacific ocean before finally arriving in the amazing city of tokyo. What did he expect? Genetically created hello kitties on every corner? A world where pokemon have been real this entire time and people actually use them in their daily lives? Giant buildings, bright lights, people playing dance dance revolution? Or maybe he would see something incredibly spiritual right from mount fuji. In the United states, media, anime, art history, all seem to present Japan in different lights. Shinto spirits in the rocks, trees, Mt. Fuji, governing families and futures, a country that is basically a giant ant farm where the people eat, work, sleep, or maybe a high tech utopia that focuses on making every aspect of life easily accessible, maybe it was none of these, or maybe all of these. Whatever the truth was, he knew he would find out this month.
This trip had not been cheap, nor had it been easy to convince his parents to allow him to travel so far away, but he had convinced them it was a good cultural experience and to potentially lay roots for his future. His family were well off, investors, business people in general and the idea of their son making business relations offshore was very promising. So, he had their blessing, but not their finances. No, he could only used what he had personally earned working in the family trade. At 16 years of age, he had already earned a respectable sum of money and it showed. Not to the point of being obnoxious, but it allowed him to focus on his health. He was a firm five foot, eleven inches in height and muscular. The short sleeves or his burgundy polo clung tightly to his swollen biceps and hard triceps, the fabric stretched tight across his broad, firm chest and clung to his lean waist. He might not have been the model of health, but he was certainly a strong young, guy. A hand brushed along his beige slacks, moving across the dense, defined muscles beneath and towards his loins. It wasn't a display of arousal, but discomfort as he tugged the fabric to loosen it from his genitals.
"Sorry about earlier," said Daniel, in response to way he had greeted his driver. Like many people from the States had a strange, vague concept of Japan pieced together from anime and movies. So, as he had left the airport and located his driver, he attempted a formal bow. However, the driver had extended a hand instead in an attempt to respect the fact he was a foreigner. Then a switch of actions. Finally, the two rested on an a very uncomfortable combination of the two. Embarrassing, however a lesson well learned. This beautiful place, was more delicate, resilient, and special than he could have imagined.
Just like her.
Yes, like many stories of travel and adventure, it was sparked by a girl. Deceit to his parents. Time away from his friends. He was willing to risk much, all to meet her. They had met on a forum, nothing to specific, just a place for young minds to interact. He was a night owl and it was lonely, but in Japan she was just started her day. So, when he was feeling his darkest, when his voice was an echo in the void, she was just waking. She was the bright ray of sunlight breaking the darkness. His morning lotus.
As they drove, he managed to glane up from time to time, but his eyes continued to fall back to her picture. After all, he would have plenty of time to take in the sights after arriving at her home. To be honest, he was surprised her mother had agreed to letting him stay with them. He was a teenage boy, interested in her daughter, and would be sleeping in their home. Stranger still, she seemed to almost encourage her daughter to agree herself when she seemed to respond more shyly. "Daniel, I don't really think the mother is a worry. Maybe she just wants to encourage her daughter. Maybe she even wants to encourage him to experience new cultures and become a more well rounded American," thought Daniel as he sighed to himself.
Many hours had passed when he finally felt he vehicle slowing to a stop. The home before him was lovely and clearly they lived comfortably. As he left the cab, he felt the cool air dance across his body, whispering into his ear. No cherry blossoms? That was likely that silly, exaggeration of Japan and he might want to try harder to drop those stereotypes he had come to know. Grabbing his luggage from the trunk, he made his way up to the door, cool blue eyes taking in every detail of his surroundings. Honestly, he was a little nervous he could actually be at the wrong home, a thought that manifested in a nervous brush of his short, dark blonde hair.
"I guess, all that's left is to," whispered Daniel before raising his large hand to the door and giving a firm knock.
