Fact: I caught a car door in early February. Cab driver just throwing his door open into the bike lane without even looking.
Fact: I'm lucky a) I landed well, so I didn't break anything, although I think I had a greenstick fracture of my middle finger on my right hand for a couple of months, and b) the line of traffic was stopped at a stoplight, so nobody ran over my head as I hit the pavement.
Fact: Because of that, yeah, I was a touch paranoid. I do think everyone ought to be wary, both bikers and the people opening car doors into the street (whether or not bikes are coming, it's just good to be sure the way is clear), but I got skittish, which is why I fixed on the Lake Shore Drive path. And now I like it for its own sake, now that I'm a bit less paranoid about car doors.
