Studio Ghibli

POM POKO.
Forget your beautiful coming-of-age stories, your painful World War II tragedies, your light-hearted pastoral slices of life.
This flick has tanuki beating up policemen with their nutsacks. Your argument is invalid.
English dub also has some stellar western voice talent.

Actually, Porco Rosso might low-key be my favorite. I had never seen it unlike, like, last year. Planes are awesome.
Otherwise, probably Nausicaa? Or perhaps Mononoke (which, along with Grave of the Fireflies, was the first Ghibli movie I saw).
Mononoke is one of those works I can give top props to for being a fantasy story doesn't have a black-and-white sense of morality (and also isn't a story where everyone is a douchebag). Instead, everyone is portrayed sympathetically. They're just trying to survive in a world that isn't really big enough for all of them. The shittiest character (The Emperor) doesn't even appear and his soldiers are only a tangential presence.
Even Jigo, who is the closest thing to a real villain, isn't some monstrously evil person, he's just kind of apathetic and banal. Which is kind of what a lot of people in real life are, when you get right down to it.

In no particular order, I adore Spirited Away, Porco Rosso and Princess Mononoke. I might have a bigger soft spot for Mononoke since Ashitaka is such a heroic character and he was so inspiring when I saw the movie as a child.

I love so much those movies, i cannot choose between either.

I haven’t watched Nausicaa, yet, i will soon.

Sherlock Holmes, i watched few episodes before, but they are gone..

And i haven’t watched some others. But i know what they are about.

Princess Mononoke is near and dear to my heart and has engraved a permanent memory of the infected boar god in my head.

I've only seen Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, The Secret World of Arrietty, and My Neighbor Totoro. Of those, Spirited Away was the only one I've seen in my childhood (and forgotten half of the movie by the time I've watched it again as an adult), so I don't have much of a nostalgia bias.

So far, The Secret World of Arrietty is my favorite. Everything about this movie feels amazing — the story, characters, visuals and music are just phenomenal. On the other hand, Howl's Moving Castle is my least favorite. I might catch some flak, but it felt rushed, chaotic and — at times — incoherent in its storytelling.

Next time when I'm in the mood for more Ghibli, I'll probably go for Porco Rosso or Princess Mononoke.

I've got around to watching Porco Rosso thanks to this thread and it became an instant favorite! The Secret World of Arrietty isn't far behind, but Rosso just soared right into my number one spot.

If I had to pick a favorite movie from Studio Ghibli it'd be Spirited Away.

Thinking about watching either Tales from Earthsea or The Tale of Princess Kaguya. (I will never watch Grave of the Fireflies again that shit made me ugly cry so much.)
