The Cosmos
The world is in chaos, what would have been 7 am in the morning is akin to night as the sun hasn't risen to greet the world. The only object in the sky are the stars and white moon above, but it doesn't give comfort to the mortal world. The goddess herself is pacing around in irritation, as she in a garden. Something is very much wrong, the sun hasn't risen in seven days, this has never happened in the history of the world's creation. Something must have happened, she can feel as much, but she hasn't heard a word from the Cosmic Plains. The lunar spirits are abuzz as well, as they are are invigorated by the constant moonlight.

His Holiness Ser Meraxes stood at the foot of Helios' sickbed, his face lined with concern. As one of the Chosen Seven, he was one of the few of Helios' Paladins who could access his temple above the clouds, a privilege few mortals could boast. But then again, he wasn't entirely mortal, was he? He had been twenty-five for about thirty years already, and his powers were as impressive as he was humble. That last was most likely what helped Helios chose him as one of his Seven.

The King of the Sun beckoned Ser Meraxes forward, and he was quick to obey. "My young friend," he said, "you must protect my sister. Protect her until I recover. Light the world in my absence. Do what you can to beat back the darkness. That is all I ask." All he asks? He may as well ask me to stop the world from spinning. But he touched his forehead to Helios' and said, "Of course, Father." Then he straightened up and let go of the strongest hands in the heavens, and then Helios, the God of the Sun, fell into a deep sleep, disappearing from all known existence while he recovered from whatever ailed him.

Exiting Helios' home onto a wide terrace, with the clouds far below and the moonlit starry sky above, Meraxes sprouted shimmering wings of holy light from his back, and took off into the night, heading for the Moon Tower, where he would find his master's sister. He landed in the garden, his wings blinking away until he needed them next. but his armor shone with divine radiance and the spiritual creatures seemed to skitter about curiously but at a distance as he walked up to the Moon Goddess and sank to one knee. "Heavenly Mother, who shares the sky with my Father, my name is His Holiness Ser Meraxes, if it please you. Your holy brother has bade me seek you out, so that you may be protected from the encroaching darkness. I am your sworn shield until such time as I perish or you no longer have need of me. Should you wish, I can summon my Brothers and Sisters so that you may be safer. I am yours to command until your brother returns to known realms. He is unwell and has sought refuge somehow, but he shall return. I know this because I believe it so, and because he was still breathing when he disappeared." He unsheathed his holy blade, Lightbringer, and laid it at her feet, bowing his head.

The goddess turns to the approaching angel, servants of her brother that worships the very sun. She is not in the mood for formalities as she is still irritated and worried. "Spare me the formalities, get up." She commanded them curtly. "Where is he?" She demanded immediately. "Where is Helios? Why has the sun not risen? You lot are the closest to the sun, are you not? What has happened?" It is common for her brother to keep her in the dark about some things, she rarely visited the Stars after her parents became one. "What? He is...gone?" She has this look on her face, shocked at the news as she slumps on her chair.

"Not forever, my lady," Meraxes said as he sheathed his sword and rose to his feet. "His Chosen Seven, among whose number I am fortunate to count myself, know where he has gone, a secret we would sacrifice our very souls in order to prevent it falling into the hands of his enemies. He has sought refuge in his personal pocket realm where only he can enter. He had no need to use it before now, as it's only meant to aid in his recovery from some form of ailment. But the manner in which he became bedridden...it is known that only a God can injure another God." His face wore a troubled expression. "I..I fear this may be the first strike in a cosmic conflict of some kind. His ailment was plain to those with eyes to see. He was stabbed, as if in battle."

Drawing himself up to his full height, he placed a gauntleted fist on his chest. "But the same shall not happen to you, Heavenly Mother. Nowhere shall you go where you are not watched over! I shall see to it personally!" The formality over, he softened and laid a hand on her wrist. "He will be okay, Omtriss," he said, using her given name for the first time. "He has to be." A single tear fell from his face onto the back of the hand he rested on her arm.

Omtriss is sad, what is going on? A god has done this? Before she could answer, the lunar spirits starts to rattle as the doors burst open as a wind blown though the tower, and this made her stand up as a ghoulish creature in metal around its form enters into where she is, keeping a suitable distance from her. "My master Daltarr greets the goddess of the moon." the ghoul could only 'smile' with its sharp teeth since it lacks arms. "The master has requested your attendance at the fortress of blades, it would be an honor for you to attend."

"Did he now? Then he would be disappointed. Return to him, i am not interested." She scoffs.

Meraxes donned his helm and called forth his holy shield, which materialized on his left forearm as he held it in front of him, stepping forward. "Your master attacked mine, declaring war on every decent God there ever is or ever will be. Begone from this sacred place or suffer Helios' divine justice!"

The corrupted angel of Daltarr seemed to grin even wider. "But I insist. Would you like me to get rid of this troublesome whelp for you, my lady?" Meraxes saw the attack an instant before it came. He moved with superhuman agility and speed, slicing the being's head off with one clean stroke of Lightbringer within the blink of an eye. The body dissolved in a cloud of cosmic dust. "Every God in the heavens knows where you spend your time normally. Daltarr might send an army next time. We must away to some place he would not think to look, at least not at first." He sheathed his sword and dismissed his shield. "Please, Omtriss. If you wish to leave, it must be now." He held out his hand; he knew she could fly but it was more of a gesture of support than anything else.

Omtriss is angered at this messenger, and she doesn't mind that it was destroyed. "Daltarr, the nerve of such a man." She turns to the paladin and she takes his hand to bring her somewhere. "Very well, we have to leave." She agree. The lunar goddess cannot fly long distances, that is why she relies on other forms. "Where are we headed to?"

"The surface," he said. "The kingdoms of mortals. If you have suggestions, I would love to hear them. We should not use the teleporters. They may have been tampered with." Meraxes suddenly did something strange. He picked up Omtriss and held her as if she were a bride he were carrying across a threshold. "I have wings to carry us," he explained. "Save your strength. I will see us safely down." With that, he summoned his wings and took off again, carefully descending to the ground so that they do not slip into a freefall or a dive. When they finally touched down, they were surrounded by trees, with a waterfall cascading down into a forest pool. "This would be a lovely spot for a swim," he remarked. He looked around. "We're in Sunspear. Legend has it this is the first kingdom Helios seeded with the mortal races. This forest is far from civilization. We should be safe for the nonce." He waved his hand in a spell and his armor dissolved, leaving him clad in a dull yellow gambeson, matching riding breeches, black, polished leather boots, and his sword belt. "The water is drinkable. I may be an angel, but I still thirst." He conjured a simple clay cup and filled it from the forest pool, drinking it down in two long swallows.

"Oh," Omtriss turns to the water as she is set into the mortal world and into hiding. It has been a long time since she has been on the surface, no one needs a celestial deity in the mortal world. She sighs as she sits on a boulder next to the water. "What is this encroaching darkness you spoke of earlier? I would have felt it too if anything was off."

"It's a figure of speech, or so I hope. A metaphor for the coming war." Meraxes went over to the boulder and sat down next to Omtriss. "So, would you like to rest here, where it's peaceful and far from prying mortal eyes? And before you entertain the idea of joining the war, you have no army in the traditional sense, so you've little to defend your brother's position with. You're more valuable as Daltarr's hostage, so he won't try to harm you. And if I fall, the entirety of Helios' forces will be instantly summoned to the spot I perish. We're safe, for the nonce." He smiled at her, despite all. "It has been a long time, but I still recall how to build a shelter as the mortals do, if you've no spells that can aid us in that regard. I do, but my strength wanes, sadly."

"Why would I join a conflict? I am not a warrior goddess, what do you expect me to do? Show up and throw a rock?" She turns away from him as she is look in up at the moon. "Do what you need to do, I do not rest." It is true, she is a moon goddess and she doesn't sleep unless she is sick or goes into Godsleep. She will have to keep out of sight for now, she doesn't wish to see Daltarr, what does he want with her?

The thought of Omtriss throwing rocks at the messenger that showed up at the Moon Tower made him smile. She'd probably be more accurate than I. Following her gaze, Meraxes looked up at the moon as well. "Is it just me, or does it look a little brighter?" Smiling, he lifted his hands and started to chant Helios' praises, and after a few moments the moon seemed to indeed shine brighter upon the land, bathing the clearing and all else as far as the eye could see in a soft, late afternoon-type light. He could feel his Brothers and Sisters take up the chant as well, and the moon grew brighter and brighter still until it shone almost as brightly as the sun had. "Helios did tell me to light the world in his absence," Meraxes said when he was done. "I hope you don't mind that we borrowed your moon for that." She's a Goddess, the Moon Goddess at that, you fool! If she minded, she would've stopped this with a wave of her hand! But he had become rather taken with Omtriss in the brief time he had been in close proximity with her. It was easy to forget she was as powerful as Helios in her own way, and think of her as simply a woman, a woman who was sad and beautiful and who would benefit from his comfort. The world seemed bathed in a curious mixture of sun- and moonlight, but the effect was beautiful, not odd.

At least in his eyes.

"Hm?" She looks up at the moon as it is it a bit brighter than usual, it is almost as if the sun is shining upon the Earth as usual. She slowly stood up up, a thought occur to her. "Knight, do you know of what is happening to my sister?" She asked him, the goddess of Mana, Aaris is on the Earth and hasn't heard from her either. She has to make sure that she is alright at the very least.

"You may call me Alexander, or Alex for short, since I am using your given name. It is the name my mother gave me, when I was christened in Helios' name, before He chose me. And no, I do not know of Aaris' current situation. Should we perhaps look in on her?" The spell that Alex and the other thousand Sun Paladins cast upon the moon had reinvigorated him. "I feel I will be able to carry you once more, should you need me to." He waved his hand and his armor reappeared on his body. "If Daltarr is after your family, we must be prepared for anything. Shall we away?", he asked, holding out his hand.

"Yes, we must not known that Helios has left." She said, she would want to warn her of what is happening right now, even if she doesn't have all of the information. She once again took his hand as they would go to where Aaris is hidden, along with her husband. They are at the Everspring Vestige, a place of eternal Spring and beauty where the well of mana is hidden among the forest.

They landed silently at the location to a hidden portal that would take them to the Everspring Vestige, and Alex looked around. "There doesn't seem to be any trouble, my lady," he said in a low voice, still wary. He stepped up to the portal entrance itself and carefully inspected it, both visually and drawing upon his holy magic to peer into the weave and make sure it hadn't been tampered with. "It's safe, Omtriss," he said, holding out his hand once more. It served as a means to avoid them getting separated, holding hands. But Alex was beginning to like it, as if they were just two normal humans going for their first stroll through the woods. He smiled to himself underneath his helm as he thought how wonderful it might be to court Omtriss properly, as befitting a Goddess of her station, only another God or one of their Chosen Seven Paladins, the most powerful, loyal and honorable of the lot, would suffice as a suitor. Since he was firmly in the latter category, he might be dwelling on such thoughts right now, if he wasn't focused on the task at hand, waiting for the Moon Goddess to act.

Omtriss nods, as she looks around the forest. Nothing seems out of place, and the teleportal hasn't been touched. The Everspring Vestige is in a realm of its own, but she has to check on Aaris anyway. "Hm, thank the cosmos no one has been around, but regardless, I suggest you keep an eye open." She said as she touched he device as the two are transported into the Everspring. "Aaris? Aaris?" She calls out, but there is no answer. There are Mana Spirits here floating around. "Where is she?" The spirits guides her into a small meadow where a young woman is pacing around. "Aaris, thank goodness you are ok."

"O-Omtriss..." She has tears in her eyes, red and puffy for quite some time. The moon goddess embraced her sister, trying to calm her down.

Without thinking, Alex took advantage of his large frame to embrace both hugging deities at once, his armor radiating a soft warmth from the power Helios bestowed upon him. "Aaris, what has transpired here?" He used a spell that at least worked on mortals and lesser divine beings to help heal both Goddess' mental anguish, hoping they would at least feel something from it. "I'm so sorry, whatever it is," he said, which was all he could do if the spell didn't work at all.

Aaris looks down as she is still sad. "Its Rothnar, he has been cursed."

"What?" Omtriss is shocked, the goddess of Mana turns her head towards the clearing as there is a body of a man laying down on the grass.

"I don't know what happened...He went into the God's Realm, but when he came back, he was injured and a curse is placed on him. I did everything I could to help him, and the portal is closed. I have to say so the mana can heal him...." SHe shiffles.

Alex looked in the direction Aaris turned her gaze, and saw the Goddess of Mana's husband lying on the ground, helpless as no one of divine provenance should be. Processing everything he had learned--what befell the former mortal who fell in love with a divine and was rewarded with demi-godhood and immortality, the fact the portal to the God's Realm was closed, the curse itself--it all weighed heavily on the angel-Paladin's mind. But he must be strong for the both of them, so, squeezing the both of them just a little tighter in his hug, he asked, "Is there aught I might do, Lady Aaris?"

"No..." She break away from them as she walks over to the body as she is still feeling sad. "No one can except for me, I have to stay by his side and help him." She lightly sniffles as she sits down. "...what about Helios? I cannot feel his presence anymore."

Omtriss moves away as well, as she wonders how she would break it to. "I know that you have been here all this time. The Sun...is set, our brother is in Godsleep." The gooddess gasp as she couldn't believe it, and that has made her shed a few tears.

"Aye, your sister speaks true. Helios is in Godsleep, for the first time ever. Daltarr attacked him, and thus injured him sufficient to make Godsleep the only path to his recovery. However, you both may take comfort in the fact that it is not a question of if he will awaken, it is merely a question of when. In the meantime, before he slept, Helios bade me protect Omtriss with mine own life and soul, and, I shall admit, the duty is an unexpected sort of...pleasure? Perhaps that is not the right word. Regardless, Omtriss has a unique beauty to her, and I would be remiss if I wasn't aware of it and it would be against my nature if I was not pleased to be in her presence, simply for the sake of it." Alex smiled at them both, his speech hopefully not coming off the wrong way. The Goddess of the Moon was certainly strikingly attractive, and so he spoke nothing but the truth.

"W-what? B-But why? Daltarr is sworn by oath to be the sword of heaven and earth...this is horrifying, what happened to the others?" Aaris is feeling fear, and Omtriss once again tries to calm her down.

"Listen to me, you are safe here. Actually, we are safe here since this place isn't well known." She points out, unless they were followed since the world of mana. She turns to the knight as he says such flattering things. "What? U-Uh..." She is stunned. "Thank you for that, but my beauty will have to wait. We are in the middle of a crisis."

"We are," Alex said. "Though I pray it will not last forever." He walked away from the two Goddesses, and spent his time walking the perimeter of the hidden sanctuary, testing its defenses, calling upon Helios' might to know the extent of Daltarr's power. He smiled when he came to a realization, and he returned to Omtriss and Aaris when he was done checking the perimeter. "Lady Omtriss speaks true, Mistress of Magic. It would take Daltarr's entire might an eon to break in, assuming he was ever able to find it. We are indeed safe for the nonce." He waved his hand and made his armor disappear again. "Perhaps we should move Rothnar indoors. Do you have a dwelling of any kind within this sanctuary?"

"This is a place of nature, so there are hardly any structures here. I do not have a dwelling, I do not like being inside them anyway." She is scared of the realm being invaded, what would she do if that happens? Is it even possible? "But...Daltarr cannot be here without permission."

"Right, and not many knows of this place." Omtriss is certain of it, so it is a safe place, but she frowns as she cannot stay forever. She needs to be in the presence of moonlight so she would still have her powers, or she would weaken.
