Ah, what a tangled web of civilities and intrigue they were weaving. Leo smiled at Estelle's bubbly acknowledgement, reaching up to adjust his tie as he did. "I'm quite fine, thank you," he said, noting the small hint of tension in the air as she seemed to regard the three men crammed into the noise carriage connector. Leo had walked in when Aleks was inviting the lovely siren for a drink; although she mentioned 'the gang' being all there, the attorney did not feel as if he should intrude.

Alek's inclusion of him, and the look on his face – almost pleased? – made Leo consider joining the two at their table. In many ways his concern was for their safety; any additional time in his presence, an identified Jew, might make their position in Herr Reinhard's eyes more tumultuous.

Nonetheless, he turned to the reporter, giving him a brief, "Nice to meet you," before following the tall aristocrat and the singer into the First-Class Lounge. The door closing behind them closed off most of the rattle and clank from the carriage connector, yet the feeling of having his teeth shaken loose did not lessen.

"Stella," Leo whispered to her as Aleks led the way, "I don't want to intrude," he said, catching up to her and glancing at Alek's back. She had a potential future with the nobleman. A way out. Gods!…Aleks even played piano; if a more perfect match had been made, Leo had not seen it. "Perhaps I should sit at the bar, so you may continue to build on the friendship you have with the count."

Hedwig nodded and finished her lunch in shy silence. She then moved gracefully to the first class lounge where she, despite the early hours, ordered a drink and sat down at a table for two, thinking it might be the best seating arrangement to attract the man she was tasked with seducing.

Jeudeth Bakari NPC Chambermaid.

Jeudeth had just finished cleaning the regular sleeping carriage's two toilets and was about to start on the actual compartments when the door to the pantry swung open and there stood a tall blonde man in a Gestapo uniform. She did flinch a bit at the sight, knowing far too well what men in his position thought about people like herself. She did smile politely though and nodded as he ordered her to follow him without any formalities or explanations as to what would be required of her. She did so rather nervously as he lead her towards the special carriage she knew the Germans had taken the right to attach to any train passing through their lands, official or not, which also included Austria.

She did not become less nervous when he lead her further into the carriage to what was no doubt an interrogation room, in fact it nearly sent her into a state of panic. She knew more than well that these people needed no excuse to arrest anyone they had deemed to be inferiour and the rumours of what happened to those who were arrested were frightening enough to make her tremble ever so slightly when she sat down in the chair that had restraints attached to it.
"Jawohl Herr Sturmbannführer," she said in a low hesitant voice when he told her it was time to earn the Reich's tolerance of her.
When he then asked what she had seen she nodded and mentioned, in German with a heavy non-European accent, having walked in on Estella changing and also that there had been some among the occupants in the first class carriage that had been moving about well into the late hours. The British businessman for one and that British lady in trousers as well. The count too had not been in his carriage during most of the night as well as the American woman.
"And there was one other woman I saw entering the first class carriage some time after midnight. I did not see her very clearly but I am certain it was a woman."

Sturmbannführer Reinhard Müller

Reinhard felt a certain satisfaction as the negro maid flinched at the sight of him, fear was a very useful tool and the Gestapo had honed it to an art form. Her unquestioned obedience as he led her back to the foreboding final carriage of the train. It was the kind of walk that for some would feel might be their final glimpse of freedom. Though Jeudith was just a pawn in this game and while she was of inferior stock, she should be a useful tool for his purposes. His eyes were drawn to her lips, so full and pronounced, giving him ideas of another use for her besides his surveillance of potential enemies of the Reich.

He made no attempt to put her at ease, keeping his tone stern and formal. Her anxiety, bordering on panic, was in just the state of mind he wanted her. He could see her hands tremble as she sat and he took the chair across from her. He took notes of her observations carefully trying to piece together anything that might be useful to him. Not so much at finding the truth, which was somewhat irrelevant to him. He raised an eyebrow at her last observation, his look suggesting that might be a detail she would be best to forget about. But he didn't pursue any of her observations further, almost as if he were anxious to get these formalities completed. But he did have one question for her. "Did you find anything like rope in any of their compartments?"

"I have one more question for you." He finally said, leaning back in his chair, his eyes roaming over the chamber maid's body. He paused, stood up and approached her, still standing he gripped her chin in his hand and turned her face from side to side as if examining her. He brushed his thumb against her full black lips, somewhat sensually the inserted it between her lips. Forcing it between her teeth and into her mouth. "Fellatio, you know this term?" He said as he began to stroke his thumb in and out of her mouth.

When asked if she had found any rope lying around in any of the compartments Jeudeth shook her head. There was of course the ropes used to hold the curtains open but there were two of those in every compartment and she had not noticed anything different during her rounds, not even in the compartment where the murdered woman had been found.

She then looked up at his as he stood up after having looked at her the way he might have looked at cattle before deciding to buy it but with a different kind of lust in his eyes. As he gripped her chin she swallowed hard as she was beginning to realise what was on his mind. She nodded. The term fellatio was indeed known to her. The act itself was also known to her. It was something she had often had to do to keep her freedom, such as it was.
"Ja Herr Sturmbannführer. Ich kenne das wort," she said an slipped off the chair and onto her knees in front of him.
"Blasen," she added and began to unbutton his uniform trousers.

Sturmbannführer Reinhard Müller

Reinhard was pleased to not have to explain the crude act to the negro chamber maid. Her familiarity with such depravity only reinforced his prejudices about her, even if it was because of men like him that she knew to be on her knees. Once she unbuttoned his trousers, he took the initiative, pushing them down just enough to free his engorged white cock. He took the base in one hand, pointing it at her like a dagger, his other hand gripped her coarse black hair roughly. Her maids cap was pushed askew and he pushed the head of his cock against those full dark lips. "Keine Zähne" he growled at her as he thrust into her mouth until he hit the back of her throat. He pulled his hand away and thrust again, deeper this time, using the hand on the back of her head to keep her from backing away.

His thrust were quick, deep, and brutal, both hands now behind her head. He wasn't going to last long, his breath quickening as his thrusts became more desperate. He looked down at her as his climax approached. There was no affection or intimacy between them, it was a pure act of selfish pleasure. "Mach kein chaos" he said, signaling to her exactly how he intended for her to conduct herself and do with his seed which soon erupted in her mouth.

Jeudeth Bakari NPC Chambermaid
@xavierrol

Jeudeth knew better than to accidentally scrape her teeth against the cock inside her mouth. She had done so a few times when she was still being trained for such acts of pleasuring her superiours and been punished for it, usually by having her face slapped hard, or her full breasts that she also knew that men enjoyed both for visual stimulation and physical. She had from time to time managed to avoid fellatio by pleasuring a man's cock between her breasts. It was also not uncommon for men to enjoy a mix of the two, mouth and breasts. This man however did seem in a hurry to get himself off the way he thrust into her mouth.

She felt his pubic bone smash against her nose, his testicles against her chin, the head of his cock pounding against the entrance to her throat, hard and fast, causing her to gag and retch. Her face was covered in tears from his brutal treatment of her mouth, her chin and neck were covered in thick saliva some of which had dripped onto her maid's uniform.

Not making a mess when he pressed his cock as deep as it went inside her mouth and filled it with his sticky seed was not an easy task. Her body was convulsing as if she was about to throw up but she forced her lips shut as soon as he had emptied himself and pulled out, closed her eyes hard and focused on nothing but to swallow and with quite a bit of effort she did manage to. The mess of saliva on her face and uniform though was nothing she could do anything about though.
"Danke Mein Herr," she said some seconds after having swallowed down his load and kept her eyes on the floor between his polished boots.

"Children of the Night?" Estella raised her eyebrow. "Never heard of that one. That one of them old-world numbers you always hear at society balls?" Not that she'd actually attended any such event in the last ten years, but in her mind the singer could easily picture the Count sitting at a piano in some European ballroom. Classy, but not exactly her style. Although she'd known quite a few piano fellas in her day who loosened up the old fingers after a drink or two and could be persuaded to play a brighter number. And Aleks did have great fingers...

Before she got the chance to steer the nobleman towards the bar, she felt a warm breath against her ear and heard the unmistakable tones of Leo's low voice whispering to her. God, why did hearing her name on his lips make her shiver so? She was staring directly at Aleks, but all she could think of was the feel of the businessman underneath her in the baggage car, his mouth on hers and his hand sliding up her back. "I don't want to intrude," he was murmuring now, and Estella wondered if that was really the truth.

"You aren't, honey," she breathed back, not turning to face him. Clearly he didn't believe her, assuming she needed these moments to strengthen her ties on Aleks' affection. Leo had a point, she supposed. The Count was probably the only one on the train who could offer any real protection (although it was good to have Weber as a backup just in case). And even Aleks had been subjected to interrogation from the blue-eyed bastard.

The same one who had caught her with Leo.

"Shit," she gasped suddenly. Had he told Aleks what he'd seen in the baggage car? If so, the Count was being remarkably calm about the situation. Perhaps he wasn't the jealous type, or perhaps he didn't hold Estella in as much regard as she had hoped. If it was the latter, that put her in dangerous situation.

Finally glancing over her shoulder at Leo, she gave him an apologetic smile. "I suppose I should go let him know where I've been all morning. He'll probably be sore at me otherwise. But if you run into trouble, honey..." she touched his hand for half a second. "Don't go off alone."

That said, she scampered after Aleks, catching his arm again and hooking her chin over his shoulder. "So how about that martini, huh Your Exellency?" she grinned, giving him a little squeeze. As she did, she brought her own lips near his ear. "We should probably talk about that blue-eyed fella who was chatting with you earlier," the singer whispered, a thread of fear winding through her words. "He didn't try to mess with you, did he?"

Aleksander held his smile tightly at Estella's brief mystification. He shrugged, deflecting any hint of the confusion. "Ah, such a shame," he said airily, deciding not to get into any over much. "Hardly any 'old world' number, though." He said. He wondered if she were picturing some stodgy old keep and ballroom. He didn't mind such things, but perhaps what he liked was more Estella's speed...he had been fond of jazz and more American fast paced, new world numbers...and he did so love music.

Leo being by them also brought a touch of warmth to the Count. At least here was a man he did not exactly mind seeing involved in their affairs, as he was rather sure Leo was a bystander. But Aleks had been wrong before and he was not entirely certain how this would turn out. He remembered the words of Mr. Bordeaux, that mysterious inspector who seemed to have his hands involved in all of this, as well as the murder...

And the fucking Nazi, he thought as he tried to banish memories of Mueller from his mind. Which led to him thinking of the other man that Estella had been clinging to. He hid his sigh as he just smiled at Leo. "Welcome as ev er, good sir. Mr. Benjamin," he added in his delicate accent...

When Estella had rushed after him, he looked slightly puzzled at how she hung over him, but it evaporated into a smile. "....Yes, we should indeed talk." That was a sobering reminder of her true intentions, not that he was trying to let it bother him at the moment.

"He did indeed 'try.' In fact he did more than 'try,'" Aleks said, still more frustrated about Mueller than he would have liked. "It was a most unpleasant experience and not one I care to repeat any time soon. That 'blue eyed bastard' as you call him, is a man I would be wary of, Estella...but yes, I suppose we could both do with a drink, no?"

Estella's sweet voice was a balm on his soul, and he saw that she understood. It was her best chance, and her offer of assistance if he got in trouble was kindness. His dark eyes squinted as he smiled at her, then turned to Aleksander. "Thank you, I'll be fine," he replied. "I'm not up for conversation." He gave Estella a soft smile as he broke from their trail to find a seat in the crowding First Class Lounge. What better kindness than to leave gracefully instead of hanging on their coat tails like a fear-driven criminal.

His only crime was his birth. Leo knew that he had done nothing wrong, and yet he felt the combined guilt of his people in these accusing blue eyes that seemed as if they found joy in his people's suffering. May they all burn in hell, he thought. Every last one of them.

He couldn't blame those who stood by out of fear. They were cowards. They feared what would happen if they spoke out, stopped the gradual growth of oppression, until that monster became so great it swallowed up everything. They didn't understand that they could stomp out that cancer while it was still small, instead fearing that they'd be seen as over-reacting, or unwilling to accept the small breeches of their freedom in exchange for safety. Leo scoffed internally. If those in power had the ability to 'give' you something, they could take it away just as easily. They saw that in the Great War, and he feared the rumors of another World War would see it even worse. Not that he could imagine worse, but people were evil and power multiplied that by a thousand fold.

There weren't many free seats to take, and certainly none that looked overly friendly. Everyone seemed to either be oblivious of the obvious threat around them or they simply did not care. Maybe they thought that ignoring the pending war would make it go away, like a specter that could not form without the presence of their victims' fears.

Taking his cue from the low hum of voices, the clatter of glasses and silverware, and the temporary peace he was afforded, Leonard went to the bar and ordered himself a bourbon. As he waited for his drink he scanned the room, catching the eye of a lovely blond sitting alone. She was young, beautiful, and surely the kind of woman that the Führer would have had wet dreams about. Not the kind of woman who would be interested in a dark-eyed man like himself, he thought.

Seeing the man she had been tasked to seduce and then betray enter the lounge Hedwig lifted her hand subtly to get the attention of the dark skinned woman who, when she wasn't cleaning the compartments, doubled as a cocktail waitress when the first class lounge was particularly busy as it was at this moment.
"A double martini, shaken, with two olives."
She didn't bother with please a the woman was of an inferiour race and they were after all still in Der Vaterland. It would certainly not do to show any signs of treating those not of an aryan descent as if they were equals of any sort.

Having ordered her drink Hedwig adjusted her dress in a seemingly casual manner but made sure to open up for a better view of her cleavage and crossed her left leg over her right in a manner that would show a bit of skin rather than hiding it. She then lit a cigarette and glanced out the window looking quite bored as if nothing interesting could ever happen on a train.

Noticing the casual way the fraulein adjusted her dress, displaying her wares for better view, Leo thought she must have been a woman of opportunity. She knew she was a dish; there was no mistaking that. Luckily for Leo he preferred brunettes. He also preferred to stay out of trouble. That blond bomb shell was nothing but trouble, as far as he could see. She also had the looks of a gold digger about her, and though Leo was no crumb, he wasn't rolling in the dough either.

He paid for his drink once it was served, and when a small table came open, he took it. The same negro cocktail waitress who had come by with the blond's double martini stopped at his table, proffering a small paper menu.

"We're all out of baked potatoes," she said, "but we have mashed."

"Mashed would be fine, Ma'am." He glanced over the menu. "And the chicken, if you please." He paid her and then settled in to wait for his meal. A moment later he reached into his inside coat pocket and pulled out his cigarette tin to lay it on the table. He could pick out the sounds of Aleks' and Estella's voices in the din. It was a comfort to hear familiar voices, laughter, and chatter, as if there wasn't a war brewing on their horizon and people weren't being hauled off for the crime of their birth.
When his meal arrived, he thanked the waitress, then tasted the potatoes. Bland. No butter. No salt. They were just starchy, bland potatoes mixed with water. At least it was food. He ate his meal slowly, savoring every bland, dry bite of old chicken and potatoes, chasing his bites with sips of bourbon to add some pretense of flavor to his dinner.

Just a few more days, he told himself. A few more days, and they would be across the border and into a land with more semblance of freedom than what they had now.

He glanced back at the blond, then away, looking at people's faces and imagining the relationships of those gathered around the tables. He saw two men talking excitedly at one; their girlfriends or wives – he couldn't tell – looked bored. Another table saw a couple traveling with a young boy of about eight. They seemed wealthy; the woman wore both pears and a diamond on a golden chain, as if she feared her jewels would be stolen if they were not on her. When the wealthy woman reached up to push back her hair, her fingers glittered with gems.

the spectacled woman

@xavierrol

*****
She was dressed in black now, and seemed much more at-ease with herself in the somber color. Her dark blonde hair was tucked neatly under a frumpy had that would have been attractive in her grandmother's day, and in the dim light of the lower-class lounge car she seemed as invisible as ever. But there was a small gleam of light off her spectacles as her eyes followed the heavyset German journalist to his sad little table near the window.

The spectacled woman had caught a glimpse of his tryst with the American singer, and found it ironic that the pair should have found one another in all the madness of the morning. She could hardly approach either of them while they were with the other, but thankfully Herr Weber had been abandoned in favor of much prettier company. A pink tongue brushed against her fingertip as she turned the page of her book. Although the spectacled woman wasn't ugly (to most people, anyway) she could hardly expect to draw Weber's attention without at least a little effort. Once she had it though...well, he certainly looked like a lonely man.

After a few minutes of further observance, the spectacled woman closed her book and rose to her feet, not stretching to her full height but rather adopting a rather meek and stooped posture. It took many small steps to carry her body to the opposite side of Weber's table, where she nervously cleared her throat.

"E-entschuldigung, Herr Weber? Sind Sie das?" she asked in an accent he would undoubtedly recognize as Austrian. "Tut mir leid für die Unterbrechung, aber ich bin ein großer Bewunderer seiner Arbeit. Seines Kritik an Das Erbe fand ich sehr interessant. Darf ich Sich mitsitzen?"

She didn't wait for an answer, but slid into the seat opposite from him, asking a passing waiter for a cup of coffee in the process. Once settled, she let her glasses slide just a little down her nose, giving him a full view of the sharp green eyes behind. "Mein Name ist Ida," she introduced, folding her hands in her lap. "Ich habe Jugend gelesen, seit ich ein sehr junges Mädchen war, und ich denke, du bist der beste Autor des Magazins. Darf ich fragen, woran Sie gerade arbeitest?"

Of course, she knew exactly what he was working on. But it would be interesting to hear his answer nonetheless.

Sitting at his table, nursing his beer he scribbled into his notebook, trying to write the full story of the lovely Ms. Devereaux in a way that wouldn't contradict the quasi coded message he just sent. It would be a difficult enough task even without having to listen to the object of his misguided affections singing from the next car. Even muffled and through the noisy train, she still sounded wonderful. He was too bitter to write, breaking the lead on his pencil as he pressed too hard.

Fritz was a lonely man in the best of times, but that loneliness was attenuated by the delight he had felt from Estella's attentions. But now, after being so close, and feeling her dancer's body pressed against his, he had been shut down. Shunned for a handsome aristocrat after risking himself to get a message out for her.

He noticed the movement from the corner of his eye, but ignored the plain looking woman until she cleared her throat. He looked up, compared to Estella she was quite plain but by no means unattractive and certainly more attractive the last woman he had been with romantically.

He was taken by surprise with both her familiarity and admiration of his work. He had never had a fan before and any suspicion that might have been warranted was lost in seeing the twinkle of her eyes as much as her words.

"Bitte" he replied and stood anxiously. "Vielen Dank für Ihre freundlichen Worte, Ida." He went on to explain his interview with Estella and the story he was trying to write but quickly tried to change the subject. "Sie hat ihre Blütezeit schon etwas überschritten."

"Wie weit gehst du?" He continued, completely flattered by this obviously intelligent and well cultured woman. Her opinions about his body of work only confirming his opinion. He wasn't particularly good at small talk but he certainly wanted to keep this woman's attention for as long as possible.

Aleksander was unable to remove his eyes from the room about them. In his estimation, there were a number of players whose allegiance they did not know. There was a blond woman nearby, one who looked uncomfortably in what might be described as Aryan, and his gaze at Leo...his own gaze was drawn to the woman.

Leo seemed to be out and about himself, seemingly more at home with food and drink than anything else. Aleksander had time to focus with Estella. And it was giving him a chance to recall all that the Nazi bastard had mentioned. Murder, intrigue...would it really be any shock at this point?

After all, he had caught her in, perhaps, a compromising position with the German man and that did not bode well for long term prospects. In fact, his own paymasters might be most frustrated in how this was proceeding, with how the German had pegged him through it so well...

Never easy, he thought before he smiled towards Estella. "I do owe you a drink, do I not?"

Just as Mr. Leopold Bordeaux had finished dining on a plate of good Coq au Vin, dabbing his mouth with a napkin as he observed the players of the grand little melodrama all about. Neat as ever, he rose u, recalling what he had told the Count and one "Herr Mueller" before.

Well. What he didn't know wouldn't hurt him. He was, after all, bound to uncover secrets of the murder himself and by god, he meant to do so...but that didn't mean he trusted anyone too easily. He might need to talk to Mr. Benjamin...

As well as the Englishwoman...but especially to the woman named Estella Devereaux. Hell, you couldn't even take the Nazis out of the list of suspects, could you? One thing at a time, he supposed.

Dinner passed slowly as he hoped it would. The more time Leo could spend in the company of others was the less time he might be caught alone by that German inquisitor. The man felt like walking death to the attorney, and he wasn't looking forward to being questioned. It wasn't that he had a part in the murder, it was because he knew that no matter his innocence, he was damned by his bloodlines.

When really, I should be blessed, he thought. But perhaps it was because he was a Jew in blood, only, and a Protestant in everything else, that he was going through all this. Perhaps.

He paid the serving woman for the extra drink and dabbed at his lips and fingers with the napkin before abandoning his table. His cigarette case securely tucked away in his jacket, he had no excuse to linger any longer. Half the faces in the dining cart had been replaced by new faces. He only paused enough to glance over to Alexander, lifting his chin in a half-nod as he made his way to the door. A couple of uniformed men entered, pushed past him, and headed straight for the bar.

Leo caught his breath as the two passed, then moved into the tiny chamber between cars. The rocking, rhythmic motion and sound in there soothed him. It covered the sound of his pounding heart.

A few moments later he found his way to his sleeping chamber and paused before sliding the door to the side and stepping in.

Disappointed and ever so slightly offended by the target's casual rejection of her visual invitation, but also fearing Reinhard's possible reprisals should she fail her task Hedwig swallowed down her drink and decided on a more indirect approach to the task. She called for the dark-skinned waitress again but thi time rather than ordering a drink she asked her for a favour. This was after all the woman who's main task on the train was to clean the compartments and as such one of few onboard that would have a skeleton key. It was a favour in two parts, the first of which would be to let Hedwig into her mark's compartment where she instructed Jeudeth about the second half of the favour.

She then proceeded to remove her dress, tore a rip in her chemise and lay down on the fold out bed before taking a small dose of her sleeping powder to pass out. It was a risky plan but if it worked out it would have the same effect as the one Reinhard had suggested to her.

Having let the young and clearly aryan woman into the compartment of Mr Benjamin, under threat of reprisals from The Gestapo for refusing to aid an agent of Der Vaterland, Jeudeth returned to the lounge to carry out the second part of her involvement in Hedwig's plan.

"Of course the latch is still broken," Leo mused to himself as he stepped into the darkened compartment and slid it closed behind himself. "There's no reason for the crew to fix it with so much going on."

Although it was dark, enough light shined in through the windows from the moonlight that he could see enough to make his way to his desk. He began to unburden his pockets: cigarette tin, pen, wallet, and comb. He slid out of his jacket and hung it in the tiny closet, then began to methodically unbutton his vest. His hands, strong and well-veined, reflected the moon's light like the soft whispered remembrance of better days. The tiny buttons in twin rows gave him scant issue as he nimbly worked their little nubs free of their constraining buttonholes. Once that was free he shifted out of the vest and hung it beneath his jacket, before working at the knot at his throat.

He had no sooner loosened his tie and unbuttoned the top button when he realized that his bed was not level. Concerned, he walked over to the bed, then inhaled sharply when he saw that a woman was lying there. Not just 'a' woman, but an obvious German frauline, and she looked for all intents and purposes to be dead.

"No, not dead," he noted the soft rising and falling of her chest, the movement of her blond curls near her lips, and the rapid subtle movements of her eyes beneath her lids. What in all hells was she doing there? He hadn't paid much attention to her, but he realized now that she was the same dame with the comely eyes and well-endowed knockers. He could see that her gams weren't bad either; but despite her alluring physical appearance, she was nothing but trouble for a fella like himself. No broad was worth that kind of risk, especially a blond.

Cautiously he put his hand on her shoulder and shook. "Miss?" he whispered. Then he shook her harder. "Miss? You crashed in the wrong cabin. This isn't your room."

Even though she had her doubts about the young Aryan woman's intentions Jeudeth did as she had been asked. She kept a close watch on the gentleman in question, recognising him as one of those who was of interest to the Gestapo officer as well, probably a man of Jewish descent and as such Persona Non Grata in the Reich, just like herself. It was obvious to her that in the end it was all a set up to arrest the man and perhaps more, perhaps the intention was to have him killed while trying to escape. Still, in consideration of what the young woman had said, Jeudeth decided that it was better to follow instructions rather than becoming a victim of the Gestapo again. This time she was sure it would be much worse than a mere oral rape.

When the man rose from his table and walked back towards the compartments she waited a few minutes and then followed him, arriving at his compartment just in time to see him leaned over the young blonde. He was whispering to her and touching her but it seemed the young woman was entirely passed out. Jeudeth look up and down the corridor and then she screamed as loud as she could.
"He's killed her. Oh god he's killed her."

The woman wasn't moving. He heard the soft sound of air escaping her throat, and felt the heaviness in her body as if she had no control over her facilities, and his heart nearly froze at the thought that she might not be 'sleeping' after all. But hadn't he seen her chest move? Hadn't she merely stepped into the wrong room, too deep in her cups, and fallen asleep on his bed?

Leo bent further, both hands on the woman's shoulders to shake her, when he heard a scream coming from the adjacent hallway and the words "He's killed her. Oh god he's killed her."

Another murder? He whipped around to look at the door, saw that it had been opened, and sprinted towards it. The chambermaid was in a tizzy. Leo couldn't fathom what 'her,' Jeudeth was referring to, until he realized she meant him! She was screaming that he had killed the woman.

"No!" He shouted, his hands on the frame of his door. "She needs a doctor!" He turned to look at the blond again before rushing to her side, shaking her more fervently this time. "Wake up!" He smacked her on the cheek. "Wake up this instant!" He knew that he would be to blame in the eyes of the authority, no matter his role if this woman died. And if he was blamed for her death, he would be blamed for the other.

Jeudeth met the man's eyes when he turned around to protest that the girl was not dead and needed a doctor. There was perhaps a slight hint of an apology in them before she cried out once more.
"Murderer."
She then pushed past him and ran to find the onboard physician and Sturmbannführer Muller, as she had been instructed to do once the blonde woman's trap had been sprung.

After Jeudeth had disappeared Jane stuck her head out of her compartment. She had spent the better part of the hours after her interrogation trying to find Walsh and the mysterious woman whom she was now certain was an agent for the Nazi regime
"What's the matter?" she asked Leo after casting a quick glance at Jeudeth disappearing towards the lounge and dining cars.
"There's been another murder?"

Leo felt his heart racing in fear. His breaths came in shallow gasps. 'How could this be happening?' Life had gone from simple drudgery to panic in a heartbeat, and he didn't know how to escape his fate.

Jeudeth ran from the room screaming for help. His eyes went to the window and for a moment he had the brash thought that he could open it up and throw the body from the train. If there wasn't a body, it was only his word against the cleaning woman's, and even a Jew had a chance of being believed over a negress, didn't he?

But he knew that would only intensify the appearance of guilt and they would find the body eventually. It would also get rid of evidence, for if someone had murdered her, surely there would be some clue as to who had done so. Unless, of course, those investigating didn't care to find the culprit.

His stomach churned. Footsteps and a familiar voice drew him to the present.
"Yes. No. I mean, not me, I didn't…" he waved a hand towards the bed as he stepped backwards from it, unable to form coherent sentences. "She was here when I got back. She's not breathing," he said, "I thought she had gotten drunk and went to the wrong room." He felt the blood draining from his face as Jeudeth's shouts echoed back at them. "You should go, Jane. You don't want to be around here when the Nazis arrive."

Jane nodded at Leo, a man she had not known a day ago but somehow couldn't imagine as a lust-murderer.
"That makes three," she said and without asking walked right past him into his room.
"If indeed this young girl is dead."
She checked Hedwig's pulse and then leaned in putting her eye close to the girl's lips to feel even the faintest of breath. She then shook her head and looked up at Leo with a nod.
"She's alive. Just heavily sedated, probably sleeping pills I would guess."
She then slapped Hedwig across the face to waked her up.
"Though considering she looks the very ideal of an Aryan maiden it might not matter to the Nazi's if she is dead or alive. They'll have you for it anyways."
"If I were you I'd get her out of your compartment before the chambermaid returns with herr Müller."
