"What is the cost of lies? It’s not that we will mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that, if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all. What can we do then? What else is left but to abandon even the hope of truth and content ourselves instead with stories? In these stories, it doesn’t matter who the heroes are. All we want to know is who is to blame.", -Chernobyl

The Festival of Ascension:

In my John Carter, ancient aliens, version of egypt, this is the ghost busters equivalant to summoning Gozer and the center point to the opening of the story. A week long festival of human sacrifice that is supposed to inspire the god king to incarnate in some monsterous form to conquer the world. There are plenty of depictions of him doing this around, a massive sea monster stands astride the entrance to the harbor supporting a golden sun disc in its phallic testicles, for instance. Ascari has been built with as many lies as bricks and there in lies the problem. In living memory no sacrifice, no matter how great has been enough to rows a monstrous incarnation of Bhaal. At the top of the Ziggurat at the center of the city stands a doorway that the god king is supposed to incarnate through as a world ending monster to smash his enemies. Thousands of slaves sent as tribute to the capital are sacrificed filling a pool with blood. In older carvings and depictions such as the huge stone slabs around the arena the incarnations of Bhaal could be interpreted as huge fuck monsters. The priests who run everything in the theocratic state dismiss this as a miss interpretation, all the big swinging dicks are just a sysmbol of the gods power. Besides, Huge monsters are bad for business, and that's what it's all about. The week long festival draws in pilrams and tribute from all over the empire and that spells money.
