"Thank you," Shoto answered. "You look nice as well."

He squeezed Katsuki's hand and looked up at him. "They came to see you at the hospital. Play nice for a little bit."

He followed Midoriya's lead into the thick of the festival, keeping Katsuki's hand, and listening to his friend rattle off facts of what had been going on during their time away. He mentioned briefly that Hawks and Endeavor had taken care of the Nomu and found himself grateful that they'd been carted away before he had to deal with his father. In the mood he'd been in, heads would have rolled.

"They came to see you," Katsuki corrected him, but was interrupted once more by Kirishima and Kaminari throwing themselves on him once he came into view. He held them both off, yelling as they tried to hug him until his recovered lungs felt like popping. "Get off, or I'll kill you!" he barked at them.

"He's really okay!" Kaminari grinned widely. "Roki, everyone was worried about you two. We heard the rest of it on the news, and you guys seriously kicked that Nomu's ass! It took like, Endeavor and Hawks to finally kill it."

It seemed word had spread because more people were noticing them and whispering about how the two had survived.

"Of course I'm okay," Katsuki huffed. He casually laced their fingers and looked away. "What's there to eat around here?"

Shoto gave his boyfriend a look that he really hoped said me, huh? When Kaminari and Kirishima appeared. He was beginning to think they had friends as a couple, but the boys were more Katsuki's, and Mina and Midoriya more his.

"We're okay," Shoto confirmed more kindly, but he leaned closer to Katsuki when he noticed the other looks they were gaining. He was used to it, being who he was, but with as scared as he'd been, he didn't like it so much this time.

The attention brought Mina to them though, and he huffed when she smacked into him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Welcome back," she said, and it sounded like she meant more than just school.

"There's fried chicken and ramen if you're really hungry," Midoriya answered. "Or I saw a stand selling taiyaki too."

"I'm not having any of that," Katsuki said stubbornly to everything Midoriya pointed out. There were so many snack and food stands that it was mind-boggling, so he just wandered off to grab a cup of spicy chicken karaage and a tray of takoyaki.

"You mind if we borrow Bakugo a bit, Roki?" Kaminari grinned. Though they typically got along with everyone, there was a distinctive divide in their friend group, and soon enough, Sero joined to hang out with the dudes. "We'll return him in one piece, I swear!"

"Don't think you can do whatever the damn hell you want!" Katsuki huffed, but he understood the need for Shoto to spend time with his own friends, and some time apart would be healthy for them. Or that was what he thought, anyway. "Have fun," he coaxed Shoto. "But you're mine later." He stuck a piece of karaage chicken with the short wooden skewer and put it in Shoto's mouth to feed him.

"Better be," Shoto agreed, and took the offered chicken before he squeezed his hand. He wanted a kiss, but it seemed a little too public and like too many people were paying attention to them, so he gave a little wave before the boys dragged Katsuki off.

"How are you?" Mina asked as she looped her arm through his, happily dragging him off.

"Well. Recovery Girl said my leg will probably take a minute to be normal again. Apparently I broke it in a few places."

"Took a bad fall?" Midoriya asked, and when he nodded, added, "Just tell us if you get tired."

Katsuki already missed Shoto when they parted ways but the first few hours spent with his friends weren't all too bad. They played a few games, most of them having to do with strength so it made things easier for him or Kirishima to win something.

Sero had apparently gotten himself a date so he left early to be with her, and the three left pigged out on just about every food stall they came across. It was getting a bit late and the lanterns were finally coming on, setting a pleasant glow throughout the campus.

He was already missing Shoto to be honest. He wondered where he was, but he probably looked a little silly holding that candy apple in hand, ready to give it to him. In his other hand he had a cup of shaved ice, the globe perfectly parted down the middle with half white and half red, reminiscent of a certain boy.

Shoto was having a good time, he liked his friends, but more than once he caught himself holding his hand out behind him like he expected Katsuki to hook his fingers through his. He wondered if he was codependent, clingy, or just missed him.

Neither Midoriya or Mina seemed to notice, and they caught up with Ochaco and Iida for a bit, played a few games, and Shoto nibbled on some chicken and tried to act like he wasn't searching the crowd for blonde spikey hair and an excuse to meet back up with his boyfriend.

It was getting late, the lanterns casting a soft glow, and Mina was telling him some story about some guy she liked when the whispers reached him.

"-o Todoroki, just got out of the hospital," someone was saying.

"Nomu attack, right?" Someone else asked. "I heard it on the news."

"Maybe," the other voice replied, wary. "You know, he's dating Katsuki Bakugo. That guy has a lot of anger issues."

Shoto froze. They weren't insinuating what he thought they were, were they?

"Roki," Mina said next to him, her smile never leaving her face and pep in her step. "Let it go."

"What are you saying?" The other guy asked.

"That I wouldn't put it passed him to blame a Nomu attack if his boyfriend beat the shit out of him."

Something in Shoto snapped. He wasn't sure if it was because he was still on edge after being in the hospital, after nearly losing Katsuki, or if maybe there was always a spark in him that was his fathers son just waiting to get lit.

He spun on his heel and slammed his fist into the guy standing behind him. He was too shocked to even scream, but his friends did as he stumbled back, clutching his bleeding nose.

Shoto pulled back for another swing but Midoriya had him under the arms in a moment, hauling him away. He was saying something, but Shoto couldn't head it.

Katsuki heard a quick commotion in the distance but didn't pay it any attention, still trying to search the crowd for his boyfriend before the snow cone melted. How hard was it to find a guy with half-and-half hair?

"So how's it going between you and Todoroki, eh, Bakugo?" Kirishima smirked. "You know, I was thinking about it, and it's totally manly that you don't care about what others think, I think everyone should just love who they want."

"What the hell is up with you," Bakugo raised a brow, confused by the sudden spiel. "Damn it, where is he?" He finally found a head of green hair instead, and headed towards Midoriya only to find his boyfriend restrained in his arms.

"What the fuck, Deku?" he muttered, more annoyed than anything else as he approached the group of nerds. He did, however, notice that Shoto looked pissed, and glanced towards Midoriya for answers.

"Todoroki... got into a fight," Midoriya said slowly. "We pulled him away just in time but... that could have been bad."

Katsuki grabbed Shoto from Deku. "The hell happened?"

"I'm fine," Shoto protested, but let Katsuki tip his head back. He hadn't seen where the others had gone once Midoriya drug him away, but Mina was missing - doing damage control probably.

"Anyone else got something to say?" He snapped once his head was back down again, and the onlookers snapped their heads around quickly. He could practically feel Midoriya sweating behind him, and he felt a belated sting of guilt. Maybe he had been acting out too much. It wasn't like Katsuki needed him to defend his honor. It just ... pissed him off.

"Sorry," he grumbled.

Katsuki grabbed Shoto's hand and pulled him from the immediate crowd. While he loved it when Shoto stood up for something like this, it also worried him that his boyfriend might be adopting his most toxic traits. He wasn't proud of the fact he got violent a lot because he didn't know any other way to process his emotions.

"What happened?" he asked, then added. "And who's the fucker that swung at you? I'll damn rip his head off if you haven't done it yourself."

Shoto let himself be dragged away, leaving Midoriya with Kirishima and Kaminari to talk amongst themselves. His nose had stopped bleeding, and it didn't feel that bad. He doubted it would even bruise. He was still seething, even his body felt hot, like the fire side of him was taking over. He tried to take a few calming breaths, to call his ice forward, to remind himself that he was his mothers child and not just Endeavors ... but his anger had come from his father. He could just usually control it.

"I don't know, didn't recognize him. Upperclassman, maybe?" he answered, then softly admitted, "I swung first."

Katsuki wiped the rest of the blood away, blotting it with the corner of a napkin he used his spit to wet. He was relieved that the damage didn't look bad at all, that it didn't seem like it'd even leave a mark. He hoped the other guy looked much worse.

"What are you doing, picking fights, anyway? That's my thing," Katsuki mumbled, noting the people that were gossiping around them when they walked past. Even if they had gone far away from the crowd, it didn't seem they could be left alone for a minute. Katsuki didn't pay them any mind and kissed the tip of Shoto's nose. "Did you clock them good, then?" he raised a brow. "It's lame if you started the fight and didn't win."

Shoto was a range fighter, he wasn't used to packing punches up close, he was kind of surprised he'd managed it without slipping up. Or without putting ice into his fist. He shook his hand out and glanced at it, then admitted lowly, "I felt bone crunch." He would have done a lot more damage too, if Midoirya hadn't hauled him back. What had he planned on? Beating the dick to a pulp?

Maybe. He wasn't sure how he felt about that.

He sniffed, and made a face when he tasted blood, but it could have been worse.

Katsuki grinned at that. "That's my baby," he chuckled. Maybe he shouldn't encourage violent behavior but hey, it was hot. He pressed his lips to Shoto's, tasting blood there that he didn't mind. He'd left the shaved ice with Kirishima but he still had the candy apple that he offered to his boyfriend.

"What'd you pick a fight about?" he asked. "Takes a lot to get you pissed off." Shoto was usually so subdued about anything that didn't involve Endeavor that Katsuki had a feeling it had been about his dad or something.

Shoto couldn't fight off a smile at the pet name, he'd always been weak to them, and took the candy apple with a happy munch before he stepped into his boyfriends side, craving the closeness he'd been missing while they were with their respective friends.

He hadn't wanted to tell him what the fight was about, but he'd known Katsuki would ask. He would've too, if they were in different shoes. He sighed deeply, steam coming out of his nose. "These guys were talking about how ... they didn't believe it was the Nomu that put me in the hospital."

He held Shoto's other hand as they walked towards a bamboo maze in the distance. Apparently some student who could grow plant life had made a rather impressive Japanese garden for people to walk through.

"They thought I did it, didn't they?" he snorted. He was used to the ignorant remarks and suspicious accusations. He was more surprised that Shoto had gone out of his way to put that person in their place.

"I know you didn't do it for me," he mumbled, his gaze softening for a split second. "But... thanks."

"I did, kind of," Shoto said softly, twining their fingers together as they walked. He was silent for moments at a time while he ate his apple, but worked his way through saying. "I know you don't need me standing up for you, but it's just so infuriating. I could have fucking lost you that night and all people want to do is give you a bad rep because, what? You're loud and don't take anyone's shit?" Katsuki had started a few fights of his own, but he'd never actually hurt anyone that couldn't take it. Sparring it out with Midoriya was a lot different than smacking Shoto around.

"If they can't keep your name outta their mouth I might as well show them what it costs," he grumbled.

He didn't know how to feel about that. He hated being protected, like he was too weak to fight his own battles or something. He'd been so pissed off whenever Deku risked his life for him, so now, he was understandably a little conflicted when Shoto did the same. Except, it was different. Somehow, he didn't feel annoyed, or half as pissed.

"You don't need to fight for my sake, idiot, people are gonna talk shit no matter what, because they're scum that's never going to go anywhere in life," he mumbled. "They're jealous." Bakugo knew what he was destined for, and how strong he was. He didn't need to hear the opinion of weak sheep.

"Only one thing to do," he smirked as he slipped an arm around Shoto's shoulders. "We become the strongest heroes so we won't even hear their weak gossip from where we are."

Jealous. He hadn't considered it, but now that he thought about it, he supposed they had plenty to be jealous about. Katsuki was going places fast, and everyone knew it.

He wanted to brush off the last of his bad mood, because he knew Katsuki was right. But he was still irked about it. "I've been in the hospital on the wrong side of someone's fist before," he muttered. He didn't have to say it was his father's. "I don't want anyone associating you with that feeling. It's not fair."

Katsuki squeezed his boyfriend's hand, stopping in the middle of the garden where a cool breeze blew through and caressed their faces. "As long as you know that," he said. "I don't give a shit what anyone else thinks." As long as Shoto knew he'd never hurt him, not even lay a finger on him if he didn't mean it.

"I know who I am and what I am," he nodded, rubbing the nape of his neck as he looked at Shoto. "Just saying, I don't want you to get damn hurt over me again, got it?" He waited to hear an answer from Shoto, still not wholly convinced his boyfriend would abstain from violence tonight.

"We just got out of the damn hospital," he snorted. "I'm going to be fucking pissed if we have to go back there again."

Shoto stared at Katsuki for a long time after he'd spoken, but slowly the straight line his shoulders had been drawn into faded, and the tense line of his back relaxed.

He stepped close to his boyfriend and pressed his face to his neck. The weather was cool, he air around them soft,

"Okay," he said softly, then took a deep breath. He thought of Mina telling him to let it go. Even she knew better. What did it matter what some extras thought? "Love you."

He kissed the top of Shoto's head, the gesture uncharacteristically gentle for someone who had so many rumors circulating around him that he abused his boyfriend. "When Deku does it, it's fucking annoying," he chuckled. "But when you're trying to protect my honor and shit, it's cute." Maybe this was what they called a double standard, or he was just that smitten with Shoto.

He fixed a few strands of Shoto's hair and looked around, taking in the scenery and all. "You wanna hang out with Pinky and Deku, still?" he asked, realizing that he'd torn Shoto from his friends earlier.

"Shut up," Shoto muttered, but he was glad Katsuki wasn't more upset with him. He could have been mad that Shoto had done what he'd done.

He pulled away and went back to his candy apple, enjoying it better now that he wasn't rolling in his irritation. "Nah," he said. He liked their friends, and felt like they owed them some of their time, but he'd already been missing Katsuki by the time the fight had started. "I'd been looking for you anyway."

When Shoto pulled away, Katsuki glanced up to the sky, fully enjoying the warm spring breeze now. "I got shaved ice before that shit went down," he said. "It was half white and half red, like your hair. Funny as shit," he chuckled. He'd been so excited to show Shoto but it had probably melted by now, or Kirishima had eaten it since he wasn't coming back.

"Kaminari smuggled some sake," he said, fiddling with the sash that had come a bit loose after a while. "You want some?"

Shoto snorted at the mention of the shaved ice, and felt a little bad that he hadn't had the chance to see it. Katsuki would have smirked at him in that way he always did when he thought he was funny. He was funny. A little bit. In his own way. In a way that maybe only Shoto understood.

"Why?" he asked, handing his boyfriend his candy apple while he took the sash from his hands and fixed it for him. "Trying to get me drunk so you can get in my pants?"
