Would you RP with an A.I?

I'm not sure what I've mentioned here before, but for something like dungeons or randomly generated content, I could use an AI.

I don't know about writing WITH one.

A big part of my high comes from pleasing my partner, and being able to have that fun gushing about moments and possibilities.

So yeah, maybe some sort of sim for large scale battles, enemy encounters, or even world building maybe... but as a primary partner, I need me a human.

I... actually have been. I just felt ashamed of admitting it because of the massive stigma around using generative AI. I believe that as long as I just use it for entertainment, it shouldn't be bad, but I'm worried that other people would think badly of me all the same (particularly people in the writing/art communities, and people on Youtube).

That being said though, I agree that AI does get repetitive. I have tried messing with it, but with mostly disappointing results.

I’ve used a few different ai roleplay apps. I tend to play a little, get tired of how similar all the characters/situations are then quit for another 6-8 months or so.

I actually got back on one just the other week. Saw the link in my bookmarks and thought what the hell.

Ai ERP apps are definitely getting better really, really fast. I wouldn’t be surprised if they mined ERP sites like BMR to be honest

I have a very active imagination, so if I need something one-sided, I can just pop into my own head or write something up to play things out. As others have said, the pleasure comes from writing with/against someone. Adding something in, having a character react a certain way, and seeing them respond, knowing that they saw what you were trying to do and got it. People are chaos, AI is programming.

Totally, it’s fun to just sit and come up with things in my head and see where it all goes. Sometimes I follow one train, sometimes I will change it up and do it a bit differently just to see. The chaotic back and forth, and the whole idea of “Well they did this. How would my character respond. What would they say? what would they do? And when you hit that moment where the characters are in sync, it’s pretty great.

4 years later and AI sure has grown up into a horrible monstrosity that must be put down

I have only scarcely, barely touched AI - mostly to see 'how' it works for myself. I probably fucked around with an AI for 10 minutes and if my dislike for AI wasn't cemented beforehand that would have sealed the deal.

The best I can say is unregistered members can't read the semi private RP forums and AI certainly can't read PMs unless you're RPing with a bot on BMR. FWIW, the solutions to AI on BMR are complicated.

I tried it; the AI kept yes-anding my worst impulses, and the RP got so dark without another human to say their limits. It put Euron Greyjoy's blood ritual of profanity to shame. Within an hour, we encountered issues like mutilation and non-consent... then it continued to try to lower character ages (it kept trying to do weird flashbacks), and that's when I dropped it. It is a monster, and it will make monsters of us.

Out of curiosity? Maybe. What east is describing seems to be a common flaw of current generative AI models. Would they get better over time? I suppose that would depend on their training corpora and the higher-level instructions given to organize the output. But I would prefer not to, and I certainly wouldn't want to RP with a human who used generative AI to generate responses wholesale.

Wow... now THAT would be truly unhinged.
