The spring festival was just starting which could explain why the town was echoing with music and laughter. It was a special event that most everyone looked forward to. It was their way of saying goodbye to all the unwanted cold weather, and welcoming in the warmer spring weather. Everyone attended, and aside from all the venders at the festival all the businesses were to be closed for the next few days.

In the center of town was where the music came from, and itâ??s were most of the people gathered at this hour. Dancing and laughing, the ladies were all dressed to impress. One such lady was the daughter of the well known aristocrat John Wellington. Tara Wellington, but most of course just called her Tara. She was a lovely little thing, Ice blonde hair that she wore up in curls for the special event, a long white dress with gold trim. The corset of the dress hugged her body in a very seductive way. The only thing about Tara that put people off was her ice cold eyes. You see Tara was blind, blind since birth. It was not so much of an issue to her, but other people seemed to be crept out by her dead eyes.

However it did not stop people from dancing with her tonight, no tonight she was having the time of her life. She had not stopped dancing since the music started, a new guy would take her hand with each new song.

Her father was out of town for the week, and it had taken her quite awhile to convince her father that she could take care of herself. She had just turned of age this past summer, and finally her father was starting to let go. He had been looking for a groom for his lovely Tara, but as of yet there were no takers.

The two of them had arrived at the festival the moment the sun went down. The festival could go on for days, never ending, whether it went into darkness or light. Raziel had stopped off to get drinks for them, leaving Alexander to look over the town from the high area. The place was crowded, hardly room to move, and the music blanketed the area with happiness, celebration. And Alexander enjoyed these Jovial times. Made for a interesting hunt, too.

Raziel came back and handed Alex a drink, what looked like some home brewed ale. Alexander swigged it down and handed the glass back, knowing full well that Raziel was not going to go too deep into the tow for the next few days. He hated this sort of stuff.

The Daratrasanoff brothers, well known in voice, face, and business. They were known for their brutal craft; not only were they expert blacksmiths, but they were well with getting their way around society. Rich, with devilish looks, few could stop staring. Whether or not it was because of their unspoken secret, Alex didn't know.

Pale as stone, always out at night, unseen during the day, almost everyone suspected vampire. But they didn't say a word, knowing full well that it was their power and their talent that helped the town during difficult months.

Heading into town, Alexander was looking for a good time.

Tara was handed off to another fellow with the start of another song. There was never any real conversation during the dances. Just a polite hello and thank you at the end. What she lacked in sight, Tara made up for in many other areas, she had a lot of grace when it came to dancing, gliding on the dance floor like she was born for it, she also had a good singing voice, but that was not shared with just anyone. Aside from the talents of dancing and singing, her hearing and sense of smell were excellent.

Most of everyone knew the brothers, and knew to not cross them. Most would see them and keep a distance, Tara however only knew them by sound, and though she had never spoken to either of them she was not totally convinced that they were as scary as everyone said they were.

Tara thanked the man she danced with, and before another could take his place she moved off the dance floor. Dancing for hours on end would leave everyone thirsty, and so she sought out a vender selling whine, or anything for that matter. She heard the call of a familiar voice, a shop owner and owner of the towns wine vineyard. â??Miss Tara, fancy a glass of your favorite wineâ? She smiled and headed in the direction of his voice. â??I would Joe, I would love a glassâ? She fished out a few coins, and slipped them on the counter. He handed over a glass of his famous red wine and thanked her for her business. â??Take care of yourself Joeâ? Tara headed off towards the dance floor again, slipping on her glass of wine.

She was sure that once she had down her wine, dancing would continue. This would go on for hours more if nothing stopped her. Dance till she dropped, that was the plan.

Alexander slowly strolled down the many roads and alleys that were made from the formation of the buildings, until he found the heart of the town. What was usually a crowded business sector was now a crowded dance floor, with vendors all around the edges and a group playing music in the center. He slowly, lazily, strolled around the area, carefully avoiding the females that wanted to dance. He wanted a drink first.

And he came along a vendor that just seemed to have something good about him. He bowed and pulled out a few coins. "What do you have, good sir?"

He could see the gulp of recognition. "Sir Alex, I have a fine Chateau if you are looking for something fancy..."

"Red wine will be fine." He said softly, putting the coins in his hand as he was passed a glass of red. He turned around and slowly sipped, tasting and testing the wine, enjoying it as his eyes went around the clear area. All these people dancing, most suspecting what he was, but willing to leave him in their presence. A truce of sorts, now that he let that roll through his head. Taking in the whole scene, the women around her, he decided to see if he could find her. It had been a pastime for him, to just look around at the festival, to see if he found the one that pulled at him. He was starting to lost hope after all these years...

And then he saw her, a woman with silver blond hair, and a white dress. He had to look away, close his eyes, and shake his head before turning back to where she was. She had disappeared, and his heart dropped for a moment before he saw her again, appearing and disappearing in the crowd, dancing. He bit his lip, he wasn't going to chance this. The music was coming to the end for the song, and he bee-lined for her, taking her with his hands. "May I have this dance?"

Tara had put her glass down after she was done with her drink; it did not take long standing on the side lines fir someone to take her hand, pulling her onto the dance floor. She smiled as she always did, and kept pace with the man who was her partner at the time. It was easy to see that the man was not perfect on his feet, but she made due, and adapted to his lack of rhythm.

Thankfully the band was not playing one of their longer tunes, the song ended after a few short minutes. She had expected a moment of breath, but another voice asked for a dance, a voice she had not heard much of, but remembered it from passing. â??Yes sir, you may have this danceâ? She bowed her head and held out her hand. Once she was on the dance floor, they as a couple flowed well together. Was it possible that he was to be her best partner of the night?

â??You dance very well, very light on your feetâ? It was almost like they were walking on water instead of the wooden floor the festival committee had put together. â??You have had lessons, or is this natural talent you are gracing me with?â? Tara glanced up at him, her icy blue eye staring through him. Not many people would be able to handle her eyes on them.

His dancing movements were very sweeping, not too wide but fluid. "Not a lesson in the world." He said softly. "Raw talent. And I am sure you are the same. Talent is much better than any lesson anyone could give." His eyes were locked on hers His own water blue hitting her icy ones. He knew her eyes weren't cold from emotion.

His blood started to boil, her words and gaze doing something to him that he never expected, nor experienced, before. "I am Alexander Daratrasanoff. And you must be Tara Wellington. I am sure that John is so proud of the beautiful young woman he brought up." He had to bite his lip slightly to keep from rushing off with her. He had to be civil. Win her the human way.

"Ah, I must talk to John, offer my own hand for you. I cannot let such a precious gem such as yourself just disappear."

â??I have never had a lesson, unless you count a father dancing with his daughter as lessons?â? She laughed a turned her head down for a moment. He introduced himself, and then proceeded to tell her that he indeed knew who she was. â??How in the world do you know who I am?â? Her eyebrow raised in question. She had been right about who he was, but now she seemed a tad nervous, her hand going a bit loose in his.

â??Talk to my father? About my hand?...â?There was no doubt that he was talking about marriage. â??Sir you donâ??t even know meâ? She could be wrong, but she knew almost nothing about him aside from rumors that were passed around town.

â??Iâ??m afraid my father is out of town for the week, he will return late next Sundayâ? She made the mistake of letting him know that she was home alone in her fathers manner for the time that he was away. â??Iâ??m sure he will see you once he returnsâ?

He listened to her words. "I know your father for a time ago, working under him. Everyone has their own beginnings. Mine were more humble than most. I have kept in touch with him, even if I was unable to see him in person. He told me about you, just a little bit.

"If your father is out..." He continued softly, keeping his eyes locked on hers, even if she had looked away. "Let me escort you to your estate when you are ready to rest. To make sure you are safe. I promise you, nothing more."

He eased her nerves slightly â??Ah well, my father does work with many different kinds of people. Both you and your brother worked with him?â? Her fathers house had always been busy, as he liked working from his manner. Tara sighed as the music was trialing off, the crowd had begun to clap like they did at the end of every song. Her hand released from his, pulling it down to her side.

â??I would not mind an escort home, thatâ??s very nice of you to offerâ? She paused â??I however donâ??t want to take you away from the festivitiesâ?¦.or your brotherâ? She lifted her head slightly listening for his brothers voice. â??Did he not come with you?â? Out of both of the brothers, Raziel had been rumored to be more fearsome then Alex. Yet Tara was not one to take any kind of truth is what other said while spreading gossip.

Tucking a out of placed curl behind her ear, she held to her hand once again. â??I guess Iâ??m readyâ?¦â? Someone was going to see her back to the manner anyway, no reason why she was to turn him down on his nice offer. â??You know the way?â? Being blind she was not one to give great directions.

He bowed to her as the song ended. "My brother will be fine, he's near the outskirts, looking for someone to entertain himself with." He couldn't help but chuckle. "Poor man needs something to take his mind off from troubles." Taking her hand with infinite softness, he slowly led her away from the center of the town. "I have been to his estate, of course I know the way."

He purposefully went slowly, allowing time for conversation. He wasn't going to let her get away. "now, what are you planning to do for this week while your father is away? You must be lonely."

She kept her head forward staring into whatever was ahead of them with dead cold eyes. She smiled, laughing softly. â??Do you both seek out people to be entertained by? I suppose Iâ??m the lucky gal to entertain you this evening?â? She was not insulted by the idea; she at least hoped she was doing a good job at it. â??You both have quite a reputation within townâ? She was sure that he had heard just about everything that was said about them.

She shrugged at his questions about her plans, she had not really thought past the days of the festival. â??I plan to attend the festival while its going on, donâ??t you?â? She turned her head in his direction. â??Itâ??s the only exciting thing that happens in town all year, aside from Christmas festivities. Other then that, I guess I donâ??t have anything planned. I might spend time out with my horse.â? Not many knew that she took horse back riding as a hobby. She loved the way the wind rushed through her hair when she went out riding, she did not need sight to enjoy a thrill like that.

â??Iâ??m rather limited to what I can do by myself, I have a few friends who might come about to take me shopping. What fun can one have in a store when you lack that of sight to see what is being sold? And would you not get tired of explaining what it is that you are looking at? Saying blueâ?¦and green donâ??t do much for meâ? Yeah it was frustrating at times, but it was how things had always been for her. What she hated the most was getting pity from the people around her.

"My brother seeks out women to ease his own grief and stress." He said slowly. He wasn't going to say what he was looking for. Not at the moment. But he listened to her words, letting her question go into her plans. "Hmm..." He said, pondering to himself more than a exclamation to her. Maybe now would be the time...

"What if..." He said, turning to her and stopping, where there was nobody around. He turned her to look at him, even though he knew she could not see him. "What if I told you that it would be possible to see?"

â??I have played the â??What ifâ? games until I was blue in the face. Iâ??m blind, and Iâ??m fine with that. After all, you donâ??t miss what you never hadâ?¦right?â? She faked a smile, it was an odd thing to say to her, but she was sure he did not mean any harm by it. They had stopped; he in fact had twirled her around to face him. He seemed really serious, but she just pulled it off as him playing around. â??No really, I mean itâ?¦Iâ??m fine with being blindâ? She moved away from him, heading off into the direction she thought they had been heading.

"That's the wrong way." He said quickly, taking a few steps and putting a hand on her shoulder before turning her to face him again. "And I'm serious. What if I told you that I could give you your sight back?" His face was starting to pale, his one big ace in the hole being thrown away like a passing thought. He moved closer to her, his head coming down, his lips stopping at her ear, whispering softly, "It's a rather large price, but you can gain much more than your sight."

Tara felt his hand touch her shoulder and then in a quick second she was turned back around to face him again. â??My sight back? I never had sight to begin with, how can you give me what I never had?â? Ok, she had thought he was just playing around but now it felt like he was taunting her. â??Itâ??s not nice what you are doingâ?¦â? She felt him come closer, leaning down to whisper in her ear. â??Large price?â? Tara groaned, this conversation was going too far, and she had just about had enough.

â??You sir, are cruelâ?¦.to tease me like you are.â? She jerked away from him, this time turning into the right direction and heading off quickly. â??I will find my own way home, please just leave me aloneâ? Could he blame her for her reaction, almost anyone would see his offer as a cruel joke.

"Nothing is outside of my power." He said, just loud enough for her to hear. He moved quickly, so she walked into his chest. "What I say is not being cruel. The problem with most people, they do not have a open mind." His hand moved and rested on her shoulder. It held her tight, but not nearly tight enough to hurt her. Just keep her in place. "I can show you what I mean, I can tell you how to get your sight, but you have to promise me that you will not tell anyone."

Tara went face first into his chest, and in an instance his hands were on her shoulders holding her there. She of course struggle for a moment until she realized that he had quite a grip on her. â??I have an open mind, but what you are talking about is impossible. Donâ??t you think I have seen all of the best doctors my father could push money at?â? She growled in frustration. â??What is this Price you were talking about?â? She decided to play along to see where he was going with this offer.

He stifled a sigh of frustration. There was a lot on the line here, for both of them. More than she knew. "Before I say anything, you have to promise me that you won't breathe a word of this to anyone."

He seemed pretty instant about not telling anyone about whatever he was going to tell her. â??Fine I wonâ??t say anythingâ?¦to anyone.â? She glanced up in his direction. â??Please let me goâ?¦â?

His hands slowly let go of her shoulders, going down her arms. "The price for it... is probably more than you are willing to pay." His hands found hers, and slowly lifted them up. He kissed the back of them lightly, before opening his mouth. "We are more than human." he whispered. "We are much stronger, much more wise and powerful." He gently took her fingers and pressed them against his fangs, careful not to break her skin.

The secret out now, definite proof. But he trusted her not to tell anyone. He slowly pulled her hand away. "I am not going to hurt you."

Tara let him lead her hand to his face, let him press a finger to one of his fangs. It was sharper then any human k9, so she knew that what he had yet to say was the word Vampire, so she said it for him. â??Vampireâ?¦.your a vampireâ? She did not run, she drew nearer, raising her hands to his face, her fingers brushed over his lips, and when he opened his mouth she grazed her fingers over both fangs. â??The rumors are true?â? she did have a moment where she wanted to run screaming, but he had promised not to harm her. For now she would take him for his word.

â??And the price?â? She moved her hands down, running over his neck and then down his chest. â??To be like you? That is the price, is it notâ? He had not said it, but she could see where this was going.

What she had dreamed, what she imagined sight was worth. Turning vampire was not something that even crossed her mind. â??How do I know that you are telling me the truthâ?¦.about gifting me with sight? â?? It was easy to lead a girl who wanted something badly enoughâ?¦.with a false lie.

He felt her moving closer, felt her hands going over him, and was taken aback slightly. He expected her to run. He felt that impulse from her, and he didn't want her running off. But he wasn't going to be threatening by grabbing her shoulder. Instead, his hand lightly rested on her arm, his lips gently kissing her fingers as they trailed over them.

"Yes, I am a vampire. The rumors were true, though with no proof." He sighed, turning his head away slightly, eyes closing. "And the price is turning into one of us. It is a completely different life. Away from the sun. But it has it's own light, and it isn't too bad to adapt to, with help." Another sigh went through him, but he turned his head back to her.

"There have been records of the change healing eyesight. Though it does take some time, like everything does."

â??Becoming a vampire had never even crossed my mind. What do I tell my father, that all of a sudden I can not go out into the day, never mind the fact that I can suddenly see?â? There was a lot that he had not thought about, or perhaps he had? Tara now had to question his purpose. â??Why me? Did you really mean what you said, asking my father for my hand?â? She had a hard time imagining him whisking her away.

He nodded slowly, which he knew she couldn't see. "Yes, I did mean asking your father about that. He knows what I am. He knows what that entails." His hand trailed up and gently framed her cheek. "I did not plan this all out. It's just easy for things to fall into place for me."

â??Wait, what?â? She backed away â??My father knows about you and your brother? I donâ??t understand, he knows that you have the ability to cure my blindness?â? Tara felt really confused, not sure what to take about everything that she was hearing. â??Have you had interest in me for awhile, or just today? and how long has my father known?"
