'Serena rushed home after picking some flowers for her mother only to stop when she spotted men from the village standing outside her home. watching as her father spoke to them Allison felt her stomach drop when she heard what they were talking about "it is only right that your child goes to the dragons this time every other family has given up their child for the dragon's protection and your family can no longer claim not to send a tribute. we will be back on her 18th birthday to claim her and send her up to the dragons so be ready" Serena watched as they left and her father turned to her his eyes sad. dropping the flowers she raced into his arms and cried. her father knew she had heard their words and he knew that she was scared. "calm little one your mother and I will help you so that you can hide your true self from the dragons we will make sure you can act human so no one ever suspects anything." Serena nodded her head and then went inside with him so that she could start learning everything she needed to survive.'
Serena stretched as the carriage rocked on its journey up the mountain to the dragon kingdom and frowned at the daydream she had just had as it was more memory than anything. the people had decided that she would be the one to go even though her family line would end with her as her father and mother had both passed away without having any more children even begging them hadn't worked two years ago so she hadn't bothered to argue when they had come for her. Serena shifted so she could try and sleep better after shaking the remnants of the dream away but it seemed like the people hauling her up there enjoyed keeping her awake even though they knew she needed the rest. Serena knew if she didn't sleep soon that she would not be able to do her duties once she arrived at the castle. not that she knew what they were. it seemed like no one knew what a tribute would do in a castle filled with dragons. Serena was a slim girl and had always been that way he hair which she always kept dirty was a unique midnight blue in color which matched the scales she had when in her dragon form. unlike other dragons, her mother was a vampire so along with eating food once or twice a week she had to feed off living animals in order to survive because of this her eyes had a pink color rather than a normal blue, brown, or green like everyone else.
Alexander looked over the files sitting on his desk each was a dossier on the tributes coming from each of the eight cities surrounding their mountains. with a groan, he got up and walked to his brother's office at the other end of the castle. there wasn't a day he wished he was the king as it stood until his brother had an heir he was the crown prince. walking through the black marble halls Alexander looked at the various painting each of them showed a dragon and then the king who shifted to that dragon. when he reached his brothers' office he stood and looked at their late father and then sighed and then he turned and knocked on his brother's door. at a towering 6 foot 6, Alexander was the second tallest dragon in the kingdom and unlike most other dragons he kept his hair long and tied back, and when he married he would cut it off
