On This Plain (w/ VanJungle)

Watching Elina go made the native warrior very sad as he looked down at his bandaged up leg. The pain was starting to subside a bit and so he leaned back against the pillows on the bed and stared up at the ceiling of the cabin drifting off to sleep as he waited for Elina to return

Elina and Helka quickly finished preparing the meal before Felix helped them set the table.

"And where has my little wanderer been?" he asked with a little smile on his face.

"I was getting some grass for the horse..."

Felix chuckled. "Cinnamon doesn't need grass. She has her own food."

"I just thought she wanted something different."

There was only silence between them after they prayed and ate. Elina made quick work of washing the dishes before she began to head out the door.

"Where are you going?" Helka demanded.

"Leave her be, love," said Felix. "You know she never strays too far." He motioned for her to go.

Elina returned to a sleeping Tatanka's side and touched his shoulder.

Tatanka was fast asleep wrapped with nightmarish visions of those white men chasing him off his own land. He tossed and turned in the bed as Elina crept quietly in, reaching her hand up to his shoulder. Unaware of her presence but startled from his haunting slumber his eyes dart open and before his eyesight can adjust his tribal instincts take over as his hand darts out locking his mighty hand around a neck. Tatanka was sure the men had somehow found his hiding place and come to finish him off. As his eyes adjusted to being open, the blurryness of his sight came into focus and he was shocked to see it was Elina in his grasp as she struggled for air. Immediately he released her feeling throngs of self hatred and loathing for having put his hands on her, even if he had not meant to.
Elina gasped in air trying to fill her lungs back up as she coughed. Tatanka scurried up in the bed to a seated position as his hand stroked her soft delicate cheek. “Tatanka sorry. No know it was you. Thought white men found me. Feared for life” he was starting to cry himself. It was an awkward yet heartwarming sight to see such a big and masculine man showing signs of weakness as he apologized over and over again

Elina's eyes widened as his larger hand gripped her neck and throwing her to the ground. She desperately began to hit his arm and chest in an attempt to have him let go as she gasped for air until he immediately let go and seemed to be in shock over what he had done. As she inched to sit next to him, she felt him run his hand over her cheek as he apologized and started to weep. She sighed to herself and pulled his larger frame into her arms, letting his head rest against her chest as she stroked his hair and rested her head on top of his.

While her parents would have retaliated against him for putting his hands on her the way he did, she knew deep down that he didn't mean to. She buried her face in his hair.

Tatanka's breathing slowed as Elina pressed his head to her ample bosom and he could again smell her eternal sent of lavender and cherries. His mighty hand brushed tears from his eyes as she rested her soft chin atop his head and stroked his wild mane.

"tatanka sorry. tatanka suppose protect. Tatanka hurt Elina" he said looking down at the floor sad while she continued brushing his hair with her delicate fingers feeling the silky soft raven strands brush across her alabaster skin. His heart was broken and his pride shattered. He felt he had become the savage everyone believed his people to be. There was nothing that could tame his wild heart and tribalistic nature.

She began to slowly rock him back and forth as he repeated that he was sorry. As she continued to stroke his hair, she went and kissed the top of his head as a way of showing him that she didn't hold it against him. It was one thing to just try and intentionally harm her, but he only acted out in his sleep.

"I know it wasn't on purpose," she said, noting to make her presence known whenever he was asleep. She placed another kiss on the top of his head as she slowly moved his head up catch his gaze.

His eyes locked on to hers looking deep into her soul as a last single tear slowly rolled down his cheek. “Elina sent by sky people. So pure. So sweet. So beautiful. Tatanka love you”

She offered a small smile as he told her that she was so sweet. But then he uttered three little words that made her blink. Though... perhaps he meant in a platonic way. But then again, she didn't have any experience with men because of her mother's overprotective nature. If Helka had her way, Elina would meet a nice Puritan boy that was already approved and have several grandchildren result from their marriage.

But she didn't have the heart to discourage him as he had already been upset enough.

Upon his saying that he would anything she asked, she paused for a moment. "Well... I'm not sure what you can do for me expect being a friend. I would be open to letting it lead to more if that's how it's supposed to go." She wouldn't deny him that as she knew that he was fairly fond of her already for everything she did for him. But she wouldn't deny that he fascinated her. Maybe...

"I'm sure your people have interesting stories," she told him.

Tatanka smiled sitting up again “my elders told many stories to young Tatanka before bed. About ancient times when forefathers created the heavens and the lands”

"Ohh!" she said, moving to lay next to him while stroking his hair still. "I'd like to hear a few of them, if you don't mind."

So long as she was in her room by dawn, her parents wouldn't say anything as they knew that she liked to be outside for hours on end once the evening set in.

He smiled and motioned for her to sit on the floor a small he sat on the bed. The stories were close to his heart and his passion for them could be seen in how he spoke with his hands. “Many moons ago, sky people above clouds looked down below. Saw barren wasteland. Great suffering and famine. They sent angel down. A girl. Pure. Innocent. She helped the people below to work the land. Blessed them with much prosperity. Anile her name” he said and Elina was shocked to here the name as it was her own backwards.

Elina plastered herself next to him as he began to tell her one of the tales he grew up with. She was a little surprised to hear that the angel's name was similar to hers, but she figured that it was coincidence so she continued to listen. "So, what else did Anile do? What happened to her?"

She brought happiness to land and people. Then she met a warrior brave who professed Love for her. When she refused him, the gods punished her as they saw it as a sign of disrespect to the warrior. She lived rest of life sad and alone never finding love as punishment for not taking it when given chance” he said poetically

"Oh..." she said softly as he finished his tale. "That's so sad. But what if she wasn't ready to love or didn't know how? Or felt that it wasn't the time to accept his love?" She rested her head on his shoulder as she sighed. "You'll have to forgive me. I don't how to respond to a man who tells me he loves me. That's why I didn't respond earlier."

As she laid her head on his shoulder he rubbed her hair like she had done his before. “Anile learn from loneliness that love not have timetable. Never know when come but if not open to try, one may miss real thing”.

"That's true," she said. "But love is one of those things that needs time to grow." Still, she was fairly saddened and felt... well, she wasn't sure how else to feel about it. "Do you know any other stories? Perhaps a happier one?" She sighed contently as he stroked her hair.

By now, the sun had begun to set and her parents were likely ready to retire for the evening. She simply pressed her side to his as she let him continue to stroke her hair.

Stroking her hair as she laid there next to him with the sun going down he smiled “once a native princess thought she not good enough. Try hard to impress everyone. Everyone take advantage of her kindness. Except one native brave. When she give him kindness he gave it right back. Never take it only give it was his motto. He believed we must be open to not only being loved but also be willing to love” he said sounding sad again as he hugged her a little tighter and stroked her hair a little gentler

She smiled as he started to tell her another tale, though he sounded a little sad as he went on. Hugging him back, she turned and kissed his cheek... though, he did seem like he was fonder of her than what she originally thought. After all, it didn't have to lead to anything too soon.

With that in mind, she pressed her lips to his as softly as she could and pulled away before she could get carried away. It was simply a harmless kiss. Whether Tatanka would take it as something else was still to be seen.

Tatanka was surprised by the kiss on the cheek but even more by the kiss on his lips before she just as quickly pulled away. Tatanka stares at her in shock. “Lips sweet. Like rose petals holding morning dew. Tatanka thank you angel”

Elina was already blushing when he told her how sweet her lips were. "Oh..." She drew in her bottom lip for a moment. "I've never been kissed before until today. I mean, the kisses are nice, but I don't know if I'm doing it right."

“Elina very good” he said smiling and leaned in for another kiss unsure what the Young’s white girl would do next but he dared to take the chance

When Tatanka leaned in for another kiss, she took a deep breath and closed the gap between them and gave him another small kiss. She didn't want to push things too far, but she wanted to keep him from being too upset.

After the small kiss Tatanka laid back in the bed staring up at the ceiling as he stroked Elinas hair
