Was going to give my thread an update and a bump but the thread says I have insufficient privileges to reply. Is this just because I haven't made enough posts in these "less important" forums?

Basically, yes; you need three posts total for full access, which it looks like you have now, so you should be able to do all of that now.

No. He has the appropriate amount of posts(3+) so he should just need to log out and log back in to become blue.
