"I AWAIT THE MASTERâ??S ORDERSâ?¦"

â??No, no, noâ?¦come onâ?¦â? Drake muttered, flipping through the sopping wet manual, trying to not tear the soggy pages as they clumped together. He looked back at the drippingâ?¦girlâ?¦that knelt limply next to his desk, repeating the same line over and over. He sighed and rubbed his forehead, Whatever she wasâ?¦she was like nothing he had ever seen before. Her skin was cool to the touch, like someone should be when they were dead, her eyes almost lifeless, but the droning words that came from her mouthâ?¦gave him chills. He didnâ??t know what she was, the man hadâ?¦he shook his head; still not sure he had seen what he saw. He had disintegratedâ?¦that was the only way he could describe it. He had turned to dust. He didnâ??t know what to do, how do you even accept that? He was running on the last thing the man had begged of him, to save her. Save her from what, he didnâ??t knowâ?¦

He blinked when he read the instructions in the manual. Drake carefully knelt down beside her, scooping a hand up under her wet hair and moving it aside. Her fleshâ?¦it had soft grooves in it, like she had been machined, put together piece by piece. The logo that was almost tattooed into the flesh of her collarbone confirmed this theory.

There was another one of those flesh â??panelsâ?? there, but this one glowed softly. He pressed his hand against it, feeling it warm intensely, almost hot enough to burn him. He yelped and pulled his hand back, watching as the panel seemed to open up. He reached towards the opening, pulling back his fingers several times, expecting her to suddenly start shrieking. He took a hold of the â??skinâ??, at the base, and pulled down, trying not to feel squeamish as he practically pulled the skin from her spine.

The line of intrinsic mechanical vertebra was astounding, but he quickly set about his work, finding the cords that were detailed in the manual and retrieving them. Quickly, he plugged them into his computer, accessing the data cores directly. His eyes widened at the scripts that flowed across his screen. These were firewalls and backup systems that hackers had wet dreams over. He wasnâ??t even sure he could bypass these.

â??I AWAIT THE MASTERâ??S ORDERSâ?¦â?

â??I knowâ?¦â? He said with a slight growl, cracking his knuckles and trying this once again. Heâ??d need to bypass the shorts in her system to bring her memory back online. Unfortunately that meant practically overriding or finding a backdoor through every damn lockdown program that her circuitry had set up when she crashed, not an easy task when you didnâ??t even know the nature of the system you were hacking into.

He struck to work with his keyboard, eyes scanning over the multitudes of data packets, trying to find the right ones to crack. He would access one, hit a firewall, try again and bypass a second, only to be hit by a third, and a forth. She had to be more secure than the Pentagon.

It took him a while, at least an hour, before he finally managed to bypass the final system lock and access her internal systems. He let out a relieved sigh. Finallyâ?¦

He quickly looked back at the manual, typing a console command. //<: REBOOT RUN SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC

Taking one last glance over at the girl, he pressed his finger down on the keypad.

EXECUTE.

The girls eyes flew open when her systems began to repair themselves and she made a computer like static like noise. Her eyes flashed with different colors and then she went completly still for a few seconds before her eyes became human like. She blinked once and then looked up at him. Her movements were so human like that it was almost scary. She scanned his face and then identified him as Drake, her master.

Before she could respond to him, a video popped up on his computer. It was all of her previous contact with her old master. It showed how they had come here, through a teleporting device from a world that had once hovered above the planet earth completely undetected. Her master had chose to stay to collect data for his prized possesion. A doll that he loved but she couldn't love him back. He wanted to bring her back to life, but he lacked the nessasary emotions to do so. The Welgains thought him mad, and let him go on the condition that she never be used as a weapon. Otherwise, she along with the planet would be destroyed. Bryant agreed.

It showed him making a partner for her, a small android about six inches tall who acted like he loved her with all his heart. Though it was not the case, as he was just a machine himself. He was built to know her inside and out, and to help Bryant make her come to life. He wanted her to be loved not only by him, but by others, so she could collect data on how to love back. She started doing chores and her brain reprogrammed to act like she was happy while she did them. He taught her how to bathe with him, to swim, to cook. He tried many times to sleep with her but he couldn't bring himself too. He wanted to wait till she was human.

Unfortanately, a few people found out about her and she soon became a target along with Bryant. One day, there home was barged into, and their house was stormed. The smaller android who was later named Asher was hidden within a book, and the girl was made to stay in one spot while he took care of them. Unfortanately, she heard her master scream in pain, and she went out to rescue him. He ordered her to go back, but she ignored his orders. She jumped in the way of something that was deadly to a machine. Some kind of ray gun that emitted electricity. She was short circuited and she looked up at Bryant with a smile. "CAN I B-BE OF A-SSTANCE?" She asked. Suddenly the screen went blank, and big red letters flashed on his moniter. DATA CORRUPTED. DELETING. And with that, the memory of her previous master had be completly erased.

"Good evening, master. I await your orders." She said with a blank face.

She had lost all memory of facial expressions and habits that belonged to humans.

Drake jumped back as her eyes snapped open, at that burst of shrill static bursting from her mouth. Had he done something wrong? He had followed the manual to the best of his capabilities! It didnâ??t say anything about- Silence. The noise stopped and he looked down at her, seeing her looking up into his eyes. He felt a chill run through him, her lifelike movements only made even more alien by the pieces of â??fleshâ?? missing from her form, and the wires connecting her to his computer.

He spun around as the video logs automatically began playing, running through her memories, her arrival, the old manâ??s reasons. It wasâ?¦confusing, to say the least. Too much information going by too fast to be remembered. But he tried to gather as much as he could. â??What? No!â? He shouted as the alert of data corruption flashed on his screen. He lunged for the keyboard, trying to stop the data before it slipped away and was lost forever, but her purging systems were too fast and efficient. The data was gone, with no chance of recovery.

â??Shit!â? He snarled, before his shoulders slumped and he rubbed his forehead. He looked back at her, looking at her eyes as they stared up at him. â??No, Iâ??m notâ?¦I canâ??tâ?¦.â? He fell silent, not knowing what to do. He closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose as he paced back and forth quietly for a moment. With a sigh, he turned to her, clearing his throat.

â??Relay operational status.â?

Her eyes had followed him as she paced back and forth. Her number one objective was to do as he said. Until further notice, she would only do as he commanded when he commanded. "Memory chip damaged. Body is fully functioning. Charge at sixty seven percent. No viruses detected. I await your orders, Master Drake." She said with a blank expression. It was the blankness that made her seem like a simply doll, which she was. If she went out in public like that, people would stare. They wouldn't guess right away what she was, but they would stare.

She immediately went into standby mode as she awaited his next command. There was nothing for her to do or say. Her memory, her thought, her learned emotions were all gone when the data of her old master was deleted. All of his teaching had went away, leaving her exactly the way she was when she was first manufactured.

He sighed, opening the manual again, carefully thumbing through the damp pages, seeing if there was anything he could do to help fix her, or if there was a list of commands that she could follow. He unhooked her from his computer, walking behind her and replacing the cables and the flesh-like panels, at least giving her the appearance of being human, with the exception of the blank, lifeless stare. They were haunting to stare into, but he couldnâ??t look away. He closed his eyes and sat down cross-legged in front of her. He draped a blanket over her naked form, giving her at least some decency, even though he wasnâ??t sure she would know what that word meant.

He rubbed his temples softly, not knowing where to begin with the daunting task of reprogramming her. Looking at the manual, he looked back up into her blank, magenta eyes. â??You donâ??t need to call me Master.â? He said, feeling slightly uncomfortable with that title. The education that had been drilled into his head since he was a kid was that the term Master was attributed to slavery, and the internet had added a whole other meaning to that word, one that was still something he didnâ??t understand.

Quietly, he closed his eyes. This would have been much easier if the manual wasnâ??t soaked. He could make out a name, though. LUNAâ?¦ Looking back up at her, he said softly. â??Your name is Luna?â? He asked her.
