There are three snappish wolves circling a pit, and if one falls in so do we all. - Common summary of the peace of Ome-Lune.

For almost six years, the great island of Ome-Lune has known only a sprawling war, because the the great power of its main alliance was taken down from within, and the coup then declared war on the other four nations (and eventually the church and its lands). It was less than a year ago that the true master behind the betrayal and declaration of war was found and his great plan to summon an unnatural demon king stopped. But the war did not stop then, despite the summoning site growing stronger with each soldier dead. It was only with the death of King Idirum II three months ago, that an uneasy peace fell on the land. But everyone knows it will only last long enough to dismantle the summoning rite.

But as soldiers, citizens, or lesser nobles of the Mad Kingdom (well now Queendom) of Pandoram, you have more immediate concerns. Like the mad show that the queen's inherited pet demon is putting on, and that you are going to be part of. It promises entertainment for the queen and select spectators, riches for those that make it out, and very little recourse. While not her father, she is still quite powerful and dangerous, and commands enough loyalty from Idirum's best retainer to force many things. Many fear what the madness of the Pandroam kings and queens may do when combined with the nature of a drow.

Of course, the demon is more than willing to extend a bit of insurance to favored entrants like yourselves. You may even have the option to decline, thought it may not be the wisest of ideas.

The island is best known in the wider world for the Church of Open Sky and its great impact on the land politically. Anyone who shows a Constellation or Open Sky mark (regular and aberrant dragonmarks respectively) can claim the lowest rung of nobility due to how three of the four great kingly and queenly seats of nobility traditionally supported and were supported by the church and its knowledge of how to better use the marks of the sky/fate. And a few generations ago the crown of Icefire joined the others in a rather complicated bit of dealing and marriages to the then widowed High Priestess of the Church of Open Sky.

Which did make things more stable, but did nothing to actually quell the ages of raiding and conflicts, so that merely reigned in the worst of both sides. But then all out war broke out, and things became very attractive for those willing to fight. A lot. At least most sides were willing to take prisoners.

As of the peace/exorcism treaty, this is the standing of each of the great crowns:
The Crown of Icefire still sits on the head of the rheumy eyed orc king Davar Baselios, but in practice the Icefire Mountain and all that pledge allegiance to it obey either his half-orc son Davar Enil or Davar's wife, the elf priestess Marielle of Open Sky, depending on who is closer to the throne at the time. It controls the whole of the frost touched north of the island, and had cut a small distance into the territory of old Ome by the time peace was called for. The treaty gave it a good bit of Ome farmland by giving them control of the lands west of their Omish holdings up to the border made by the mountains. In exchange, they gave a small but ritually significant province to the Church of Open Sky.

New Ome will split back into Arcus and Ome once the peace treaty is done, but for now the dwarven queen Thea and her son Lacha have given the crown to Princess Merdian of Ome until such time as she retakes the old capital of Ome and crowns herself queen. While the land is held by them, the need to undo the mad summoner's ritual lands and purify the Hill of Two Moons take far more precedence. They control almost all of the unfrosted east of the island and much of the center where Ome lay. There is only a small bit held by Tangel to be given as a gift upon the ascension of Meridian, the bits given to Icefire, and a small holdout of the rebels that will quickly be swallowed up by the Church or Pandoram once fighting begins again.

Tangel is ruled by the Silent King Asutun, who is the only lord truly native to the island. When exactly the old human achieved this immortality is unknown, but every recorded crowning of a king or queen of Ome has had the Silent King present, often with a symbolic gift. The crown to Tangel controls the south-east, and until the last days of the war traded control of a few neighboring provinces with Pandoram on an almost weekly basis.

Pandoram controls the south-west, which is mostly cut off from the sea by perilous cliffs. The fortress city of Claret controls ingress and egress from most of Pandoram's traditional holdings. The exceptions are an eastern province that is adjacent to old Ome territory and to Tangel and a western province that is the best land access to the bit of the island that has long been church land. This will make any contesting that the church may try rather difficult to hold, as their troops would have to march over the mountains or go through hostile land.

The church is not a crown, but traditionally has exerted more soft power than any of the the individual crowns, and was a frighteningly close second in terms of being able to dictate terms even when compared to the triple alliance of Ome, Tangel, and Arcus. Of course, as it was mostly soft power, the wise church head had to step carefully. And when war came, High Priest Brunel had to make some hard decisions. But he and the Church still stand, weakened but ready to inspire piety and prayer with their destruction of the seal.

I'll get to work on the threads on monday and link the stuff in here.

EDIT: If you see this, might be late as the fire alarms went off and woke me up way too early.
