Eliseabella, though, better known as Elise, followed the waiter to her seat. It was a nice, quaint little coffee shop, but what pleased her the most, it was very, very, public. She was led to the open-air porch, where an assortment of tables and chairs were placed under a fancy umbrella for comfort. Several of the tables around her were already occupied by other customers who casually spoke to their companions as they sipped at their beverages. Good, the more people around her, the less likely it would be this little meet-up of hers would go wrong. At least, that’s what she was hoping. Who knew how many Alphas surrounded her now, and not many Alphas had the ability to compose themselves from an Omega’s heat. Though, her last heat had passed not long ago. So, the likelihood of another coming so soon was very low. Still, she couldn’t risk anything to chance.
Not today of all days.
Once seated, Elise ordered her coffee ahead of time, not caring to wait for her companion to get here first. Her gaze drifted to the table, falling upon the manila folder that had started it all, examining the picture pinned to the front for the hundredth time. Seth. Her pair designated by the Government and her soon to be husband. It was how things worked these days, the Government would pair two people up, based on their DNA compatibility, and arrange them to be married. Once someone had their pair, that was it, any other relationship they may currently be in didn’t matter, they were now expected to devote themselves to their paired partner. And now, after years of avoiding it, here she was, paired to another and not only anyone, but an Alpha at that.
An Omega being paired to an Alpha was an honor. Alphas were at the top, while Omegas were primarily at the bottom, looked down upon by both Alphas and Betas. If an Omega could pair with an Alpha, the Omega would never have to worry about discrimination, work, or anything really. Most would kill to be in her position. Still, Elise didn’t feel this way. Alphas were cruel. Betas weren’t much better. She knew once she got married, others would leave her alone and she would be alright financially, however, expected nothing more than the Alpha she was marrying to try to control everything about her. It wasn’t ideal.
Just being an Omega wasn’t Ideal…
It was odd. Judging by the information provided about Seth. The two didn’t seem all that compatible. He was successful, wealthy, and a powerful man in society. While, Elise lived a relatively normal life, per say. She was the youngest daughter of three, having two older Beta brothers. Her mother an Omega while her father, Beta. They weren’t all that well off financially, but her father worked hard to feed his children. When Elise’s first heat hit, she was sixteen. Her mother died from illness a year later, so Elise never really got the chance to learn how to deal with her heat from her Omega mother, had to learn as things went on. She tried dating, mostly Betas, but even they had a hard time when her heat hit. After a while, she just stopped, knowing it was futile to get attracted to anyone anyways since she would be paired soon.
Still, it was the hand she was dealt and just because she was an Omega, Elise had no intentions of bending over backward for anyone, Betas or Alphas alike. She didn’t know much about her husband other than his face, name, and the information provided in this folder. Which wasn’t much other than his work background and family history. That told her nothing about the person he was. Well, today was their first greeting, she will soon get a taste of his personality when he gets here.
The waiter coming into view distracted her from her thoughts. She thanked him as he placed her iced latte before her. Sighing, Elise grabbed her bag, popping one of her suppressants in her mouth before she sipped on the brew, leaning back in her chair, taking one last glance at the picture before shoving the folder forward.
