Yeah, the Courtship was pretty weak. Bits of the story were...passable. But overall it was pretty lacking really.
I think one o fthe reasons I liked the Thrawn trilogy was some o fhte style of the author. Things were named and explained. When a gun is drawn on Han, it wasn't just a generic pistol. It ws a DL-18, noted to be significantly less powerful than his own DL-44. Weapons and technology had names with them. The Katana fleet had been talked about in previous books, but Zahn told the whole sory of it, and ran with it. He didn't leave much in the way of loose ends. Not to mention he created the character of Mara Jade.
