Hey everyone! Thought it would be fun to make a thread devoted to memes, stories, jokes, struggles, quips, and triumphs of RP life.

Anything annoying, strange, funny, inspiring, or relatable you’ve had happened during your RP career.



I’ll start with a story that happened more recently than I care to admit.

Me: Contently sitting on bench outside of work, browsing (thankfully) SFW furry images for a possible faceclaim for an RP I’m doing.

Coworker comes out of nowhere, legitimate ghost, I definitely had a ‘stealth kill’ prompt over my head.

Co worker: “Awww that’s so cute! Is that a fox?”

Me: “Uhhh yeah, yeah it is.”

Coworker: “It’s so adorable! Did you draw that?”

Me: “No, a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend draws characters for children’s books and I give them feedback.”

Coworker: “Well tell them that one is super cute.”

Me: “Yeah... will do...”

When you reach out to someone wanting a nice, fluffy, romantic slice of life RP, and while planning they start subtly mentioning their character may happen to own a BDSM sex dungeon.

Isnt that kinda weird though? With Verrier kinda being a kaiju/elder god?
Wonder if there is kaiju /elder god porn?
Its the internet, of course there is.

So far, I've resisted the urge to look for it, but I know my curiosity will get the best of me eventually.

So when I first jumped into the roleplaying scene, it was actually on a Kingdom Hearts News site with a roleplaying forum. The first roleplay I joined was a Smash Bros one...Only thing is I did not know what a sign up sheet was and I randomly brought Marth into the actual roleplay since it started. XD I soon got to the character sign ups and funny thing is, I did not sign up as Marth.

Getting a character into an ongoing RP is still a heart attack for me.

Seriously though, Bad Dragon deserves some sort of award from the RP community for their contributions to being a reference guide for exotic genital inspiration.

Equate that to: looking for good looking guy--damn what should I name him? Damn what does his house look like? Sits on Google looking for male bachelor lofts for hours.

Pinterest is a slippery slope for that as well, searching for a character image, end up with a dozen new images, and a new phone background.
 
This happened on another site but I still think about it to this day as It keeps happening quite often.

So I put up a search thread to post up a setting for a Street Fighter meets WWE type setting. Now I make it VERY clear "Yo, it would be super dope if you had some knowledge of wrestling or fighting game tropes" and "This will have more of an anime flair".

So first response I get is.
"Hey so I got an idea for a character for your setting!"
Me: Hey awesome! I'd love to hear it!
"So to add a little darkness to your setting-" Well Yowie Zowie here we go "Basically her ability is that she can take a gunshot. It can't kill her. But she gets the full effect."
Me: Um... okay? So kinda like armor? Like Zangief's V-skill? (use a link to describe what I mean)
"Oh I uuuh don't know fighting games. No it won't be like armor..."
Me: *trying to find a middle ground here* Okay so I guess what i'm seeing here is, she's in a fight with someone, is winning, her opponent pulls out a gun and shoots her... but she gets back up despite the wound and wins in the end
"Oh no she won't be fighting. She'll come up on stage to get shot! And the audience will take part in it as well!"
Me: Um you know this is kinda more... like anime right? And fighting games?
"Well I don't really like that stuff but I do like your setting!"
Me: *just basically leaves the convo and is hovering the mouse over the delete thread button*
 
that moment when you take the time to make an entire harem and world for a player to explore...

to be dumped for some stupid demon RP because demons are cool and edgy OOOOOOO demons!
 
That moment you lose inspiration in an rp and are trying to regain that desire to get back into it and your DM is passive aggressive as hell assuming your other RP’s are automatically more important rather than just having a lack of inspiration for your current rp.
 
When you expect to get a full on, detailed paragraph reply from your partner because you did it, but all you get

Is a boring one liner.
 
A conversation with my parents:
"So I'm finally getting to meet an online friend this week!"
"Is this a gaming friend?"
"...Yes >.>" Says me, a known non-gamer.
"--Or a fanfiction friend?"
"Um...more gaming..."
"What online games do you play?"

Cue me, a grown-ass woman, trying to explain BMR to my dad and landing on "cooperative story-telling." Which I mean actually isn't a lie.

"Oooh, so it's like nerd gaming?"
"Yes. Exactly."
 
When you use a word or phrase too many times and it's starting to get on your nerves so you whack out the old thesaurus.com

The strange tribulations of a sci-fi nerd who somehow only ever seems to roleplay Medieval Fantasy!

Me: There's an old lumber mill here, and it seems bandits are holed up inside. Likely our characters will have to do something here!

Also Me: What in god's named does an old lumber mill even look like??? *Googles* But how does it work?? *Googling intensifies* Maybe if I watch a video! *Youtubing commences*

Me: And atop the mountain they find a ship, surprisingly in one piece, as if affected by powerful and old enchantments!

Also Me: How do old sailing boats work?? They need HOW many people to crew?! Uhhh, smallest ships?! Ffffff-- wait, how does the sail rigging work? Youtube, heeelp! No, OLDER ships! Uuuuugh! And what kind of knots do they use?? How much of this can I solve with magic?!

Me: And he, being an expert survivalist, would show her how to prepare a fish!

Also Me: Wait, did they do it differently back then? You have to cut into WHAT part of the fish? Uuugh, maybe if I just dress it up with good dialogue!

Me: He decided then to care for the creature. She would need a bath.

Also Me: WAIT, they didn't actually have baths or plumbing back then! Where do I keep the water? How do I heat the water? What does the tub even LOOK like?? How do they get RID of the water! How much of this can I solve with magic?!
