Nearly twenty years ago, the country of Nal discovered a strange breed of people along the forested strips of the magnificent country. The creatures, humanoid as they were, held distinctive features of felines ine their hair, their eyes, ears, backsides and sometimes even their hands and feet. As Nal attempted to send several people to converse and perhaps befriend these cat-people, a bitter, rival nation held an attack against these people, killing and enslaving them in masses.

At the end of the short, weak struggle, only a few remained alive if they weren't captured. Such a creature was Akina. A pale, silver haired feline. She was a bit battered, but more scared than anything else. She stood from the rubble, slowly, seeing several others do the same. She turned to hear a woman crying about her dead son, the poor child crushed like a grape. Akina couldn't watch that too long, then she realized. Her daughter was missing. Her daughter was gone.

Stephen had lived on the border between Sul and Nal all his life. He had scene armies from both nations march threw his fields. Had at one time in his life fought for Sul. Several years ago he left the military to restart his families farms. He sat on his front porch and watched Sul's forces on their way to the eventual slaughter of the cat race.

Stephen shook his head as they now marched home. A officer came to him asking for permission to stay on his lands. Stephen allowed them to stay on the furthest stretches as far from his house as he could get them. He walked with them to where they would stay. Once the armies had set up he inspected the area. He saw the cages with the cat people in them and he shook his head. He detested this practice of Sul that is why he left their army.

He looked over the wounded bodies his heart breaking. When he saw her he nearly burst into tears. She was a baby he was sure that she was not the only child in the caravan but she was the by far the youngest he could see. He turned to the officer he had given permission to. "These slaves? Are they for sale? " He spoke softly calmly he knew they would be eventually. He also knew what would happen to this poor girl. "If she is ill take that one. I don't care what she costs."He looked into the officers eyes as he spoke."Let us go back to your place and discuss a price."

"SAKI! SAKI!!" Akina's eyes opened wide as she felt as if she was in a nightmare. "SAKIIII!!!" She screamed loudly, the most important thing in her life was gone. At a young age, Akina would learn how to fight from other nekos. She joined many groups and learned different disciplines. However, when Sul invaded, she could hardly defeat a dozen men before being routed. Akina wasn't a stable person at all. She had dealt with traumas in her past. Her family fell victim to a viscious disease which wiped them out. Cursed, she was the only one with an immune system strong enough to survive it. Six sisters, a mother, a father and a brother, all fell to the damned sickness, but not her. Then during her recooperation, she came to terms with a man. A human even, from Nal. Although she didn't break easily, and at the time this sort of thing was forbidden, the man managed to open her heart, and Akina felt alive once again.

After their meaningful, yet short romance, her lover left. He never returned. She searched for him, even in pregnancy, and later learned that he remarried. Cursed, the neko also learned that he was murdered by his wife, after he told her of his affair with a white, silver-haired neko woman.

Her daughter was born and she felt alive yet again... and now, Sul has raped, and ripped that apart from her. There was no recovering from this.

Stephen took the man and the sleeping child back to his house. The officer was accompanied by 2 armed men that carried the caged neko. Once back home Stephen haggled as best he could. At first they wanted more money than he could afford. After nearly 3 hours of negotiations he managed to get the price down. It was every last penny he had. He took a deep breath as he handed his life savings to the officer. "If anyone comes looking for a stolen child it will not end well for you." The officer nodded. Stephen did not know or care as to if he intended on reporting the sale or not. He just did not want to be bothered. Once the men left Stephen was left with another delema.

He was now a single parent, of a neko girl no less. He opened her cage and led carried her carefully up to his room. He was grateful she did not wake up as he laid her into his bed. How would he explain what he had just done. Stephen barred the window so she could not escape whens he woke up. He stood for nearly an hour looking down at the young girl. "What am i going to do with you?" He had no answer to that question and staying up all night would not help. He pushed a chair against the door and sat down falling asleep in it. He would have to figure out how to explain this when she woke him in the morning.

"Where is she!?" Screamed Akina, grabbing a local innkeeper by the throat. "A!!! Akina!! What are you doing to me?" "Don't fuck with me right now Aboshi! Where's my daughter!?" The innkeeper began to seriously choke at this point. "Akina... I have no clue... let me... go...." He then faded, his eyes turning glassy, Akina immediately releasing him as the customers watched in fear. She lunged towards the door and ran out, trying to smell up Saki. Sadly, she was a neko, not an inu.

The young girl lay asleep on his bed, her hair silver, her skin pale. She wore a small black sweater, probably to keep her warm and cozy. It didn't look expensive, and the girl also had a tail like a cat's.

Stephen woke up as the sun began peaking threw the window. The chair was not comfortable at all he could not stay asleep. He sat there rubbing his neck looking at the little neko girl. He got up slowly moving the chair. He looked around he had nothing that a young girl would find entertaining and no money to by her any. He sighed looking at her knowing she was going to be very upset when she woke up.

Stephen decided to go make breakfast. He hoped that she ate would like what he had to eat. He left the room slowly closing it behind him at least if she opened the door he would hear her. He went down stairs and made them both breakfast. Something simple steak and eggs, he was no chief but he did good enough. He came back into the room with breakfast for both of them before she woke up. He set down the plate next to the bed and ate quickly he needed to be ready to calm her down when she finally woke up.

The young girl Saki, struggle to finally open her eyes. They were red, not bright at all, but very red. They scanned the room slowly until she saw the strange man looking at her. She didn't even bother to lift her head. "Who are you... where is my mother..." She said calmly, her eyes moving away from him and looking into the wall.

Stephen moved slowly to the bed setting down next to her. "I don't know. I found on a slavers wagon. My name is Stephen whats yours?" He looked at her nervously. Hoping that she would not be to upset. He had not really been this close to a child since he was one. He joined the military the day he was legally able and had lived on this farm since he left. " Your safe here no one is going to hurt you. "

"Mother told me not to tell strangers my name... you should take me back. Mother will become very upset. Mother won't listen to you if she sees you. Mother won't listen to me." Her eyes never looked back at him, her stomach starting to grumble. "I hope mother finds me. I don't want you to die... but I really miss my mother."

Stephen nodded looking at her. "Don't worry about me I can handle myself. Are you hungry? I made breakfast its nothing special."He looked at her his heart breaking as she talked about her mother. He wanted to tell her that her mother was probably dead but he did not have the heart. He moved the plate over and sat it next to her."I will do what i can to make you happy here. I promise. "

"For me to be happy... I will need much more than burned eggs and a smile. I need mother. I need a husband... and I need my mother to have a husband too. You alone can't provide all that. So it's inevitable that you'll fail at keeping me happy. But your effort is something I can smile at. Just not right now." She sat up, her eyes not yet on him. "I am Saki. Please let me eat those burned eggs."

He handed her the plate and a fork. "There is juice on the table. I need you to stay in the house today. I don't want a straggler from the army seeing you and trying to take you. Can you do that for me?"he avoided the topic of her mom not wanting to talk about someone he assumed would not be coming." I have to go take care of the north field. If i don't we wont be able to eat for long. "He spoke softly moving over to the closet taking his claws and putting them on his belt. He took them every where just in case he got in a fight.

Saki ate the food without much hesitation. She seemed to like it after all.

"I don't want to stay inside. I want to see mother. You would like her... if she doesn't kill you that is. She is a loving woman. That's why I am so well-mannered." She continued to eat and finished the food very quickly. "Let me go see the fields. I have never seen them before. Then I can tell mother about it."

Stephen paused looking back at her, it was stunning just how calm she was. Kidnapped waking up in a strangers home. "As long as you promise not to run away and to stay in sight. I pretty sure that if your mother finds me with you she wont kill me. But if i had you and lost you... That could look bad for me. "He smiled opening the door and starting to walk from the room. He would have to keep a close eye on her but she would be safer with him than running around the house by her self.

She stood up and dusted herself as if she was dirty. Then quietly walked out with him. "Don't you have children? You should have an easy time finding a woman." She kept her hands behind her lower back as she spoke, finally glancing at him every so often.

He chuckled she reminded him of his little sister. She always bugged him about being single. "No i don't any kids. Other than you. "He smiled patting the back of her head as he lead her out of the house starting to the long walk to where they would be working today. "Its not always that easy hun. What about your dad? You have not mentioned him since you got here. Why not?"He was curious he assumed it wouldn't matter anyways. He was all but positive that her family was dead.

"I never met my father." That was the only thing she ever mentioned about him. Her life pretty much revolved around her and her mother's relationship. "And please don't pet me... I am not an animal... and we have not reached that level of comfort. I will scratch and bite you if you do it again sir. I don't want to be rude to you... but I am not trainned to be that kind of girl."

He smiled looking down at her walking over to the massive corn field. "Sorry i meant it nicely. I wasn't petting you though just patting you. "He did not mean to quibble over details but he wanted her to know he didn't think of her as a cat."You want a ride out to the where i have been harvesting? "He smiled gripping the large 2 wheeled wheel barrel. "I promise not to dump you out."

Saki looked at the contraption and slowly got upon it. "Okay. We can try that. I don't mind the walk however." She sat down, her hands between her legs and looked up. The cat child missed her mother. A mother that was very likely lifeless right now.

He smiled pushing the cart out into the field where he would be picking today. He avoided all the major bumps but tried to make it fun for her hitting a few of the smaller ones. He was doing every thing he could to try to take her mind off her mother. "So what do you do for fun? "He smiled setting her down putting down his left claw. he began working tossing cobs of corn into the barrel with her. once he cleaned the stalk he cut it down. This would be his last crop from this field this year.

"Well... believe it or not, our women are very often trained for marriage. We aren't bought and sold as badly as before... but we really like to please and keep our husbands. My mother's been teaching me several neccessities men have. I'm learning to become a wife for someone one day."

Stephen looked at her she was so young to be worried about getting married."Well since your here now how about you focus on training to be a kid. "He spoke smiling tossing her a cob of corn as he moved along having to throw them further now as he was walking slowly away from her doing a stalk every 20 seconds or so.

"That is what being a kid is all about. At least to us. We get together in groups and pretend we are married to our friends. It's a lot of fun. I usually end up being alone though. Maybe I won't marry anyone." She caught the cob and placed it down, she wasn't exactly hungry at the moment.

He smiled seeing her catch it and began throwing each cob to her. He was having fun paying catch with her. "Well if you want. You can play with me. I don't mind if that is what you find fun." He looked at her smiling."Well your not there anymore maybe you will meet a nice human boy to marry. "He smiled glancing at her he could see the army moving off his land. He was extremely happy to see them go he hated them and what they where doing.
