W&G: The Inquisitor's Speartip

Talshi was disappointed that the soldiers surrendered. Of course he had offered it as an option as well but his preference was for inflicting pain, not handing out mercy. Still he would honor the arrangement all the same, eyeing the guards and flourishing his blades in anticipation should one try anything but they continued to comply. By the time the scions moved in to arrest them, the sslyth shifted his gaze between the three nobles, the captives that were nearly executed.

The conversation between the stunty human and the rather cowardly one didn't much concern him, codes might be helpful to get through a door or such but didn't need any influence on his part to sus out. So he begrudgingly allowed his posture to slide into a more relaxed state and ultimately turned to more or less stare down the female in the brightly colored clothing. He doubted any of these people would be judged too harshly if they were otherwise seen as threats to whatever corrupt regime was now in control but he still couldn't help but think about how fitting the woman would be for his... care. While he didn't speak such a thing out loud, and his alien appearance no doubt helped to hide his thoughts, the intensity in his eyes would likely still come through regardless. Though truly he was simply waiting for the interrogation to be completed more than anything.

Aye, and how the snake-man can fight, too! I shuffle into the room behind the rest. Better to keep out of the way and let Vâk do his talking.

All the same, I keep Lady angled in the general direction of the disarmed guards. Seen too many heretics surrender and then pull grenades or knives. Speaking of which I'm not yet convinced our friendly nobles here are as virtuous as they claim. It'd be a pretty picture of us to storm in here and rescue them, and they must know that. Perhaps there was a change of robes at some point, or a change of faiths.

We'll see. I've every confidence that the truth will soon come to light. In the meantime I scuttle over to Flagg. "Do you know any of our lords, here?"

Flagg had her gun at rest, though eyes the two new groups, the surrendered guards and the rescued nobles. Her steely eyes flicked over to the shorter Augie as the woman came over and the agent settled her volley gun down, taking a moment to consalt a data slate. It didn't take her long before she was giving everyone a quick rundown of their three prisoners. "Hugo and Solicia Van Staten, eldest son and daughter of our target," She gestured to the talkative man who had been forced to kneel and the noblewoman. That just left the foppish man who glanced nervously, oddly enough towards Solicia most often. "That would make him Tutius, Solicia's husband."

Flagg had talked loud enough for the prisoners to hear, each having a different reaction. Hugo nodded earnestly, while Tutius straightened his well-tailored robes and seemed to try and gather himself. Solicia just seemed disgusted with both the men in her presence and sneered lightly at their 'saviors.'

"Yes the codes!" Hugo seemed desperate to be helpful here. "We were given codes to a train under the palace, father said it was out escape route should anything happen, before the heretic led him so astray, oh father..." Solicia tutted in disapproval to this statement and glared lightly at Hugo now, seeming to disagree with her brother's statement in some way.

Khanzhar rolled her eyes inside her helmet as it seemed the situation had been resolved. Resting her klaive on her shoulder she walked up towards the group. "Hmm really? Codes to a train under the palace." she said with a sneer. "Hear that? It seems we have a subsequent objective, destruction of the train to ensure no one else escapes this place." she said looking to Flagg with a smirk that could be felt under her helmet.

"Our orders were the recovery of the lord wasnt it? Just the lord. By himself." her voice said with the melodramatic role of a executioner reciting their lines. "Before this place is reduced to rubble. And that train could risk the escape of the warp touched, or Khaine forbid, even one of the neverborn and their poxes into the city at large." It was clear where Khanzhar was going though whether the others agreed was another matter.

Talshi didn't much care about the spread of this corruption, whether it happened or not, but they had plenty of explosives and it probably wouldn't take much effort to destroy the train. Course, it could also be an alternate method of getting the lord out instead if need be. Still, that hardly mattered for the moment since they had barely entered the palace proper; worrying about the train was a ways off in his mind and they could discuss it later. Instead his gaze, though given for a different reason, seemed enough to pick up on tension that the noblewoman's face held from the conversation.

"Have sssomething to say do you?" He directed to Solicia. He wasn't much of a... conversationalist but he did know how to be imposing. While drukhari weren't easily frightened, his kind took to such things naturally. Besides, it was mostly the drukhari's victims that sslyth were often threatening more than anything else. "Is he... lying?" Talshi spun the power sword in his upper right hand and pointed it towards the younger man, though still plenty of distance away to not really make the action too dangerous. "Or does your sssour look stem from another source?"

Not sure if necessary but I'm rolling Intimidation to speed things along perhaps: [_7d6s4]=(1, 6, 2, 3, 1, 4, 2)=2=2

3 icons and a complication. Dear god, the dice roller is back at it again.

Despite not pointing a sword at him, Tutius jumped all the same, taking a step back as he proved quite easily spooked. Hugo held steady, though did eye that blade with a little worry. Solicia for her part seemed unimpressed by the Ssylth and just glanced back and forth between her husband and brother. "Cowering to xenos and mutant filth, really? Our father's ascension is at hand, the salvation of the Emperor, and you let yourself fall to the first group of heretics that storm the palace. You are both pathetic!" Seems someone in the group wasn't feeling particularly repentant.

At last speaking up, perhaps motivated by Khanzhar's revelation that they were only here for the Lord, perhaps Talshi's threat, the fop squeaked out. "Wait, wait! I have access to the plans for the city defense. If you get me out of here I'll hand everything I have over!" Tutius having a high pitched voice for a man, though perhaps that was just the fear bringing him up an octave or two. Solicia's glare suddenly is reserved fully for her husband at that moment.

"Tell usss the plans and give us these codes you mentioned and we will get you out of here." The inquisitor will interrogate them and sort them. Possibly dole them out as rewards later on between himself and Khanzar. Of course, these nobles would be treated as prisoners and not guests but the fear in the two men still seemed that such treatment was far preferable to any alternatives. The female though, she seemed like she'd be fun to break and she also seemed to be aligned with these cultists so the chances of such an encounter were rising.

"Right, right!" Tutius reached into his robe, quickly and shakily looking for a dataslate. With his life on the line the man very much wanted to please, and he was already convinced that this ecclectic group would torture and push him at a moments notice. After a few seconds of fumbling he seemed to find it and made a soft exclamation as he started to pull the device out of his robe...

I need everybody to give me a DN 6 awareness test. DN 5 for Talshi for reasons that'll become clear

Awareness Checks:
Flagg: 8 Icons
Talshi: 2 icons
Vak: 1 icon and a complication
Khanzhar: 3 Icons
Augie: 4 Icons

On the whole more eyes where on Tutius, watching as he started to pull a dataslate out, their focus away from the other prisoners, from Solicia in this moment. Hidden within the folds of her dress, she pulled out a small las-pistol and quickly took aim with the skill of someone who has had some practice with the weapon. The woman does not aim it at any of the party however, nor at her previous captors. No, she aimed it directly at her husband...

Flagg was the only one who spotted this in time, the woman quickly rushing forward almost on instinct. She didn't have time to reach her, but she was able to tackle Tutius to the ground just as the trigger was pulled. The shot missed its intended target and might have been utterly harmless... if Vak didn't happen to be standing right in the path and las bolt to the chest.

For Vak's complication he finds himself in the way of the failed shot.

Last Shot vs Vak: [_4d6]=(1+4+4+3)=2 vs DN 2, hit
Damage: 7 + [1d6]=5 = 8 Damage
Vak can roll Determination against 1 wound

Glory: 3
Ruin: 4

Vâk's eyebrow raised at the mention of a train hidden beneath the palace that could be used to escape. That was certainly an interesting piece of information. Begged the question however if this was information they could verify. The reptilian seemed to sense the same thing as he pressed the nobles. That was when the woman snapped at her fellow captives. Vâk found it suspicious she was acting the way she was before she mentioned her father. That he could understand and even sympathize with. Kin were loyal to those in their kindred, you didn't betray your family. The squat once more raised an eyebrow at the noble's offer: the city's defense plans for sanctuary. Now THAT was an offer. With those plans not only could they potentially verify the train's existence but even circumnavigate the threats ahead and ensure the train could be made inoperable like the elgi suggested.

Vâk had been considering a potential approach when peace once more broke into violence. He hadn't seen the woman draw her laspistol but even if he had it was doubtful he could have reacted fast enough. Kin weren't renowned for their speed or agility. Thankfully Flagg was faster as she tackled the noble to the ground to avoid the shot. Unfortunately, Vâk took the bolt in the noble's place as he was put on his back with a groan. Vâk blinked and groaned in pain as he glanced down to the impact area of the lasbolt. Had she used anything other than a laspistol that was a prize for orcs, it might have done him some real harm. As it stood, all it did was melt the surface of his void armor and maybe give him a light bruise. Still, the Kin groaned in annoyance as he sat up.

"Argh damn it all to the Warp. How's that for fucken gratitude? Save some ornery tart from certain death and get shot in the chest for it" he exclaimed, not really to anyone in particular but voicing his disdain for getting shot all the same.

Talshi hissed in frustration as he proved too inattentive to recognize the threat the woman posed. Not to him of course, he wasn't afraid of the glowing light guns humans were so often fond of, but thankfully Flagg tackled the intended target out of the way. The sslyth didn't much pay attention to the results of the stunty human being hit instead as he slithered the short distance to Solicia and proceeded to coil his serpentine body around her in a tight hold.

In one quick motion he raised the power sword in his upper right arm and swept it downward in a circular motion while thumbing the setting of the power field to try and turn it low enough to become non-lethal. Even still he thought to try and twist the blade to land against her wrist with the flat of the weapon rather than the edge but he was acting on instinct which was prone to the risk of small mistakes.

Multi-action to grapple and disarm

Opposed Strength to Grapple (+2 for size difference): [_8d6s4]=(5, 3, 6, 3, 6, 4, 3, 1)=4=4

6 icons versus 0 from Solicia.

Called Shot to Disarm (-1 from targeting arm): [_6d6s4]=(1, 3, 4, 4, 2, 5)=3=3

3 icons which should hit with her -2 Defense from being Restrained. However that is a complication. I'm open to other suggestions but my initial thoughts would be that on a success Talshi might accidentally cut her hand off. On a failure, maybe he loses grip of the power sword he's using for the attempt?

Damage (to determine the Strength DN she must make to avoid dropping the pistol): [_4d6s4]=(3, 5, 6, 4)=3=3

Thanks to Brutal that's +6

11+6= 17, so half that would be DN 8 for the Strength test which I'm pretty sure she can't make.

In the heat of the moment, Talshi did indeed get a little carried away in his aggressive moves. His enormous serpentine body did indeed coil around the noblewoman's form and constrict around her, but his blade? Well he did separate Solicia from her gun... along with the hand holding the gun. There was a moment of shock from the noblewoman, blinking at the stump of her right hand before she started to scream in delayed reaction to the pain. There was little to no bleeding fortunately, the power field burned the flesh just enough to cauterize it, but the woman very much was down a hand and quite horrified by what happened to her.

0 Icons again for the strength test. So yeah very much make the disarming attack... literally in this case.

Glory: 3
Ruin: 4

I snort. Well, that'll teach her. Looks like Vâk is okay, which is the important thing, but it still won't hurt to check. I slink across the room to him, calling out as I pass the small scene of carnage: "Good work, snake-man."

I think even sitting I'd tower over Vâk. Funny, almost. My whole life I've been the shortest person in almost every room I've been in. I never minded--makes it easier to avoid being noticed when I don't want to be--but now that there's someone smaller I can't help but feel like I stick out like a sore thumb. I offer him a hand up. "Still with us?"

Lucky man. His armor saved him. I clap him on the back, but it occurs to me that I wouldn't have been able to do much if it hadn't. Must get my hands on a medi-kit once we're back aboard the Nihilus.

Khanzhar had thumbed the power on her klaive as the noblewoman came up to fire. A look of glee behind her helmet as she imagined herself splitting her in half vertically. Only for the Sslyth to move in and dis-hand her and the laspistol making Khanzhar groan in annoyance. Her adrenal pumps already winding down and her murder boner unsatiated. "Just one more heartbeat, just one more and I could had made her scream twice as loud for half as long." she whined.

Looking and seeing the small mon-keigh mutant was still up and kicking she shrugged and walked over to Solicia to grab her by her cauterized stump. To cause as much pain as she could as she leaned in close. "That was a poor decision. You should have shot yourself, its far easier than what im going to do to you."

Talshi was still coiled around Solicia as Khanzar came over to threaten the woman. While it was a bit of a shame that he ended up severing the woman's hand, it wasn't much of a mistake that he'd care about in the long run; the woman was still plenty alive after all. His gaze shifted to the drukhari and he hissed back in reply, his voice containing a clear indication of threat. "Prisoners will go to the inquisssitor. As much as we both would love to ruin this one in agony, that is not up to us to decide."

He paused a few moments to let that sink in, the fact that he would uphold their contracts as close to the letter as possible even if that meant infighting, but he softened a touch for the moment as he ended his thoughts on a more positive note. "Though I'm sure the inquisitor will not let this one get off lightly. No matter what is done with her, she will sssuffer." While still remaining on guard for any efforts from Khanzhar that go beyond mild, Talshi would gesture for some of the scions to come take her into custody so that he could focus on more important things.
