Hoist the colors!

Seen on Twitter:

5,000-year-old prosthetic eye made from a mixture of natural tar and animal fat. This incredible object was found near the city of Zabol in Iran. The world's earliest prosthetic eye, which was once painted gold, was worn by an ancient priestess who stood 6’ tall.

I think we’ve found the Oracle!

From Twitter:

UNCLE OWEN: Luke, take these robots home and get ‘em cleaned up
LUKE: But I was going to Tashi Station to pick up some power converters!
OWEN: Pick up some what?
LUKE:
OWEN: Why would you need—
LUKE: Fine, I’m buying porn

So I responded to a question about polyamorous relationships in my role-plays, and it got me thinking about the nature of the relationships my characters are in. So here’s how I think it breaks out, and I’m curious if people agree.

MONOGAMOUS (single partner)
  • Will Stone and Mercedes Morello (despite also having a couple of flings with Marilyn Stone, Mercy strikes me as a monogamous kind of woman)
  • Algernon Swift and Anne Marie LaMonte
  • Captain Jack Sparrow and Jenny Sparrow (in life)
  • Sam Cavendish-Schmitt and Erik Heinz-Schmidt

OPEN MONOGAMOUS (single partner, but able to take lovers outside the relationship)
  • Quentin Hall and Kaydia Voss-Hall (from a certain point of view, but see below)
  • Captain Jack Sparrow and Jenny Sparrow (after death)
  • Jackie Sparrow and Sam Cavendish
  • John Samson Sparrow and Mayflower
  • Mykel and Eva (although Cassandra and Melinda and Xilani seem to have opinions about that...)
  • Lily and Zamira

POLYAMOROUS (more than one partner in a relationship)
  • Pete Ahn, Marta Rubello-Perez, and Sebelah Brown (I think this is the likely relationship, with sex outside of it being a means to a specific end)
  • Matthias and Aurianna, and Edwin and Rielle (I waffled a bit here, because there’s an argument that this is actually two open monogamous couples)
OPEN POLYAMOROUS (more than one partner in a relationship, and able to take lovers outside the relationship)
  • The Clarem - Clara, Sigurd, Thora, Sue, Willam.
  • The Golb Faylen - Sheila Golb, Mith’ras, Quentin Hall, Kaydia Hall-Voss, Arlia, and Klynn (this is how Sheila would see it, at least)

ILL-DEFINED RELATIONSHIPS
  • Mara Hall-Voss and Luke Amidala (possibly open monogamy, if the relationship gets past the “hot fucking” stage)
  • Han Solo and Leia Amidala (they’re still trying to figure this out)
  • Verrier and Clara and Afodesia
  • Prince John and Princess Yusra (very much open something, but “open arranged marriage” isn’t a category here...)
  • Colin Drake and Kieran Shane

Hmmm...I mean, Algernon and Anne Marie are definitely monogamous within the bounds of their relationship. But the nature of Anne Marie's jobs makes it a little fuzzy as to whether they're open-monogamous.

Also I question whether Sam and Erik are open-monogamous. We've seen that they have the occasional threesome, and Sam once fucked a stranger in a graveyard for her job, but I'm not sure that qualifies as open since they're both involved. Doesn't seem to meet the "outside the relationship" requirement.

Colin and Kieran might qualify as "ill-defined," John and Yusra as well, and I feel like Jack and May (Swift-Palmer if you couldn't find her last name) are more open-polyamorous atm...

Hmm.

Good point about Sam and Erik, since they don’t really have relationships outside their marriage. I should probably move them to monogamous, since this is BMR and we can probably read “monogamous” as “has a single partner, but both partners are cool with one or both of them getting some action on the side as long as they’re honest about it”. And, as I recall, their agreement is that Sam can bring a lady home as long as Erik can be there.

Alive and Anne Marie qualify as monogamous, I think, for the same reason. Anne Marie might sleep with someone else professionally, but the only relationship there is doctor-client.

John-Yusra are definitely “ill-defined”. Colin-Kieran are more “hate-fucking hard”, though. :)

Granted, the Mercy and William situation is complication, since she's currently still married to a man she can't stand, but has to pretend, and, up until recently. was sleeping with both of the Stone siblings and the Raven (who turns out to be both of the Stone siblings.) I agree that the eventual relationship will like be monogamous between Will and Mercy.

And the Peter/Marta situation is incredibly complex, because is it still monogamy if if time displaced versions of the couple join in occasionally? What about alternate reality versions? But I agree that the poly-ship of Peter, Marta, and Sebelah is a possibility (and certainly canon in some realities).

Monogamous
Astrid and Ellistair- This is partially built out of political expectations and scrutiny the couple faces.

Open Monogamous

Yusef and Aurelia
Gwynn and Kaarim

Open Polyamourous
Then we have Twelfth Night. So, Olivia is married to Sebastian, but they have a mostly loveless (but friendly, sort of) marriage that is sexual to conceive children. By arrangement, both are allowed to take a lover so long as no children are conceived. So Sebastian has Annette (I think?) and Olivia has Viola. Viola is expected to marry and have children, so eventually she would have married Bastien, bisexual man who prefers other men. They would have been each other's beards, so she would continue her relationship with Olivia, while he could take male lovers on the side. He and Viola would had a sexual relationship, with Olivia involved at times. I think Shakespeare would have been proud.

We really need to start that up again. I forget whose post it was, but I enjoyed Twelfth Night.

And of course Colin and Kieran are hate-fucking, but there wasn't really an option for that so I picked the closest to "it's complicated."

"Printed in Hell."

They missed the opportunity to use the word phallacy though. Two stars off.
