The remainder of the night was uneasy. The NVA & Viet Cong were pulled back into the cover of the dark jungle. The leader of the enemy forces, Colonel Min spent the night planning a new attack on the American lines. He sat safely inside a bunker deep within the mountain facing the knoll where 1st platoon was holding up. Min spoke with his officers on how best to turn the American lines. He decided to send some men down the other side of the mountain. These troops would work their way around the mountain and attack the knoll from behind. Min wanted to slaughter the American's in a surprise attack. If his forces could hold here and win. Min could marshal a greater force and attack Camp Baker. The fall of this American base would lead to Nha Trang falling. Effectively cutting South Vietnam in two. Min already pictured himself as a great hero to the people. A victory such as this over American forces would only make him an even bigger hero. Min would get that promotion to General he so badly wanted. All he needed now was for his men to take the knoll. This would put his troops behind the American lines and allow them to turn the tide of battle.

Morning came quickly. The members of 1st platoon had little, or no sleep. Most spent the night watching & listening for sights & sounds during the night. Breakfast came from a can that morning. Nothing new for those who spent time in the jungle. It was set to be another hot & sticky day. Most of the men had already stripped down to just wearing their t-shirts. Their uniform tops & flack vest had been removed during the night. It was just to damn hot and going to be hotter. Even Raymond "Ray" Cobb who was the last surviving member of the patrol which started this battle, had stripped down. He looked more like an African Tribesmen then an American soldier. Cobb had been involved with this fight for so long. His pants were ripped in many places. He had taken a knife and cut his pants into shorts. His sweat glistened over his muscled black body. Cobb was shorter then Motown. A bit taller then Spade and more buff then both. He, like Tony wondered how a hot looking woman like Sam got into a combat outfit. It was east to see that she was one hell of a medic, but Sam was a woman. Cobb sat with his back against the knoll watching Sam on & off. He could see how her sweat soaked t-shirt clung to her chest while she moved around. Cobb certainly wouldn't mind getting some of her white pussy when this was all over. He wondered just how many of these guys were lucky enough to tap that sweet looking white ass? This was something that Cobb would have to find out about.

Just before dawn, Colonel Min sent his men out. He had picked a small force of 12 to circle around the American lines and attack the knoll from behind. Any more could get spotted, or heard. Min told his men to move quickly, but quietly. He wanted this attack to be a surprise. By the time Min's men reached the base of the mountain, 1st platoon was already eating their breakfast. Kern, Morgan & Kowalski had a very short meeting during the meal. Their biggest fear was that their left was exposed. This made it easy for the enemy to attack from that point. Trouble was, beyond the knoll, there was a lack of cover. Kowalski was ordered to take five men and extend the line in a fish hook. This fish hook would bend from the end of the knoll around. Kern hoped that this would at least give them some warning in case the NVA decided to attack there. Once the men had eaten, Kowalski hand picked a group and moved them to cover the left. Moments later those damn whistles were heard. Another attack was coming from the front. Min planned on using these attacks to cover his new attack from behind.

Sam was hot and she was tired and she was covered in dirty and blood and sweat. She hadn't had any more sleep than the rest of the platoon. The kid with the chest wound had died during the night without having woken up and was now lying in a black body bag, ready to be carried and lifted into the chopper when the time came for them to head home... at least home to the base. Sam had been somewhat relieved by the fact that the kid had died; had he been awake she was in no doubt that he would have been in a lot of pain and she wasn't sure that she had the means to control it. But he probably had a family back home and at some point in the next few weeks, they were going to get the bad news... together with hundreds... maybe thousands of families.

The others were as comfortable as they were going to be. She moved her way from one to the other not aware of Cobb watching her as she did. Her focus was on the wounded. When she was done she set herself against a tree , drew her knees up and let her head rest back against the trunk. The hit was heavy and it was still so early. She found herself praying for rain, but in the Vietnamese jungle, rain wasn't like it was at home. And whilst it brought a little relief, it was only temporary. Soon everything was waterlogged and the ground turned to mud. 'Something else to look forward to' she thought to herself. Then she was aware of something hitting her on the shoulder. She opened her eyes and looked up to see Kowalski standing next to her, holding out a canteen. She reached up and took it, thanking him. He watched her take a drink and then took it back, handing her a can as a replacement. She didn't need to ask what it was. Chopped ham and eggs in a can. Along with it came biscuits and cigarettes. She wasn't particularly hungry but right now there was no guarantee when they would get a chance to eat again. So she opened the can and forced herself to eat the contents. As she was eating she saw Kern and his sergeants working out their tactics. She didn't hear the details of what they had discussed but there was obviously some agreement on something as soon after they finished eating, Kowalski was getting five men together. She watched as they moved out, not entirely sure what they were doing but her attention was soon shifted as the whistles came again and the next assault began.

The first attack of the second day of fighting was beaten back. 1st platoon suffered a few more wounded, but still their numbers of dead were low. Kern was greatly concerned over the lack of ammo his men had. They were getting only a 1/3 of the ammo brought in by the choppers. This 1/3 had to be handed out carefully among the men. Kern knew that his troops couldn't hold this position without more supplies. Besides the ammo, the water was also coming in small amounts. The wounded always got the water first. They were in the greatest need. Morgan was just as concerned. He didn't like his men fighting an enemy force of unknown size without the proper tools. Morgan knew who was to blame for the lack of supplies. It was that fat bellied blowhard of a Supply Sergeant, Master Sergeant Pressman. That man never spent anytime in the field. Pressman was only worried about lining his own pockets. Morgan planned on having some words with Pressman when the platoon went back to Camp Baker. He wouldn't be alone since Kowalski & Kern also wanted a few choice word with Pressman.

Perhaps 10 minutes after the first attack was beaten off, a second one came. That was followed by a third attack, all from the front. Each attack gave Colonel Min's small force the chance to move around behind 1st platoon. By the time the third attack was stopped, Colonel Min's force was ready. The 12 men force watched quietly from the jungle some 30 yards behind the American line. In between the NVA & America forces were clumps of trees, bushes & logs. Colonel Min's men locked their bayonets on their AK-47's. This attack would come quickly & quietly. Colonel Min's however couldn't see Kowalski and the five other men off to the extreme left. They were blocked from view by heavy brush. The NVA troops rose up as one and started to move. They quickly headed start for the American's. No one fired a shot until the men had moved a bit closer. The first few shots were aimed at the helpless American wounded. Morgan yelled out that the enemy was behind them! By now many of the wounded were dead, or worse off then before. Morgan yelled out to Sam a warning of a soldier behind her. He raised his M-16, but didn't have a clear shot. Kern didn't even have time to turn after hearing Morgan yell out about the enemy. He took a shot in the back of his leg. That dropped him to one knee, but Kern was hit again. This shot caught him in the back of his left shoulder. Neither wound would be life threatening unless he got proper medical attention. However at the rate Kern was losing blood, he would need to get his wounds treated at the hospital.

When the shots suddenly started coming from behind her, Sam was startled and for a few seconds she was confused as her head tried to work out what was happening and how the wounded had finished up in between the US line and the oncoming enemy force. Sam saw bullets rip into the still bodies of the kid with the stomach wound and the leg wound. She didn't need to get to them to know that they were lethal shots. Suddenly, Sam felt completely helpless. Overwhelmed. For those few seconds, she was lost. And she didn't hear or see the enemy soldier moving up behind her. Morgan's warning shout was loud enough though to break the spell that Sam was under. She turned and stared at him as his words seeped into her consciousness. Subconsciously, her hand was already moving to her pistol secured on her hip. And then she began to turn. Just in time. The enemy soldier was almost on her. She saw the look of surprise on his face as he realized he was about to assault a woman. Killing a woman...an American woman gave him no difficulty; he just didn't expect to find one on the battlefield. But that realization may have been the last thing to go through his mind before the .45 bullet from Sam's colt. She had bought the weapon up smoothly, wrapped her left hand around her right wrist just as the training had taught her and she squeezed the trigger... Firing one shot. It was maybe the best shot she had ever made. The massive amount of adrenalin rushing through her body had clearly sharpened her aim as well as her movement and the soldier went down hard, dead before he hit the ground. She watched as he fell. She had never shot anyone that close before , never seen their expression as the bullet ripped into their flesh. For a second she was transfixed but then she became aware of more shouting, of something beyond the usual. She snapped her head round. She saw Morgan. And Tex. Spade. And then she saw Kern. Momentarily on one knee before his body jerked with the force of the bullet hitting his back. As he went down, Sam was already moving towards him. Morgan and Tex were doing likewise. Morgan and Tex got to Kern just before Sam. As she arrived she heard Tex confirming he was alive. Each man grabbed hold of shirt and flak jacket and dragged a moaning Kern along the ground to a new place of relative safety where Sam immediately began to work. She checked the leg wound first, making sure that the femoral artery hadn't been hit. Having confirmed that she checked the shoulder. Morgan and Tex had got the flak jacket off as Sam checked the leg. Now Sam cut through the shirt and then ripped it open. Both wounds still had the bullets in. Whilst the bullets themselves would have been sterilized on exiting the barrel of the weapon they were fired from, each one would have taken a small piece of fabric into the wound. Dirty fabric. If Sam could stop the bleeding what was most likely to cause Kern's death was infection. She made a quick decision and told Morgan and Tex to hold onto a semi conscious Kern. She asked Moegan for his knife. He gave it to her quickly but he was a little surprised at what he suspected Sam was going to do. As she took the knife in one hand, her fingers probed Kern's shoulder. She could feel the bullet.

"Hold on to him." Without hesitating she pushed the tip of the blade into the wound, blood seeping over her fingers as she works the blade. Kern winced and groaned, but Morgan and Tex just tightened the grip. It took seconds for the bullet to slide out and with it came a tiny fragment of cloth. Sam tossed it to one side and then immediately started to pack and then cover the wound. Her head was already thinking about the leg. Once she was happy with the shoulder at least temporarily, she moved down. She cut the leg of Kern's pants and began to examine the wound.

"Shit." She whispered.

"What? What's wrong!" Tex said.

"You need to hold him still. The bucket in right against the artery. I.. I need to dig it out without nicking it, otherwise he'll probably bleed to death before we get out of here. " They tightened their grip and Sam began to dig with the tip of the blade once again. The bullet was deeper. The flesh firmer, less malleable, less giving. Kern groaned. Begged for it to stop.

'Just a bit longer...hang on...nearly...nearly... Got it." Sam let out the breath she had been holding as the bullet eased out. Sam wiped the sweat from her cheek with the back of her hand, smearing blood across her cheek.

"It's done LT. It's done. Just need to clean you up and then you can sit here while everyone else does the work." As she spoke, she cleaned the wound, covered it in sulfa, applied dressings and pressure bandages. "You're gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine."

Kowalski & the five men with him heard the attack. They all turned to see the enemy coming from behind their lines. Kowalski & those under his command counter attacked the NVA. Bullets seemed to be flying everywhere. Like angry bees looking for a target. Many of the wounded which Sam had been treating were dead now. However, there were fresh wounded soldiers to replace them. Among these was Lieutenant Kern. This attack was snuffed out quickly. Kowalski returned to Morgan's side seeing Kern was down. The radio man ran up to Morgan telling him that Captain Coleman was dead. He handed the radio mic to Morgan saying Captain March from "A" Company was on the line. Morgan took the mic telling March what was happening on their end. March ordered that all wounded be removed from the battlefield. He said the LZ was in danger of being overrun by the enemy. The last choppers coming in to drop off supplies would take the wounded back to Camp Baker. Morgan said that Lieutenant Kern was down. Captain March had heard that "B' Company had another Lieutenant named Sam. He didn't know that Sam was a woman, but gave the order that Sam take charge. Morgan sigh and rogered the new orders. He told Sam & the others that all wounded needed to be removed from the battlefield. Morgan told Kowalski & his five men to help Sam get the wounded to the LZ before it was closed down. He then looked at Sam and said per Captain March, she was in command now.

This took everyone by surprise. It wasn't that they didn't trust her abilities. These men trusted her with their very lives and if they were wounded. Sam is the person they wanted working on them. Sam however, never commanded a group in combat before. She was about to get a crash course. None of the men voiced any displeasure with Sam taking charge. These men knew that she had Morgan & Kowalski to count on for help. It would be like getting a new green Lieutenant. " We've got your back Sam. " Morgan said while Kowalski added "Damn straight we do." There were a few more wounded who needed Sam's attention before they could be taken to the LZ. She would be busy for a short while before her attention could turn to commanding 1st platoon.

She wasn't really sure whether, in telling Kern that he was going to be okay, she was trying to convince him or herself. As she finished up she was aware of Kowalski joining them and was relieved him and his team were back in one piece. She looked up on hearing the news that Coleman was dead and stood up slowly wiping her hands on an increasingly dirty towel. She listen as March updated Morgan on the rest of the force and on the need to get the wounded ready to Evac from the LZ. As the conversation continued, she started to look around, mentally evaluating who was in most need, how they were going to get the wounded to the LZ and what she needed by way of new supplies. Maybe they could radio an order through; get it delivered with the Huey. Although if that was anything like getting ammunition, she wasn't holding her breath.

And then she thought she heard her name mentioned on the radio. Heard 'Sam'...'lieutenant'...'B Company'. She looked back to Morgan. Saw Morgan and Kowalski and Tex and the radio operator staring back at her. She was puzzled for a moment. And then the last words she had heard March say sank through to her conscious mind. 'Take charge..." She stared at Morgan as he started to outline how they would move the wounded and then he repeated what March had said. Sam stared at him. She opened her mouth to say something and closed it again before saying anything. She looked around. Everyone was looking at her. She looked back at Morgan and Kowalski and Tex.

"That's a stupid idea. I can't... You know I can't.... There's no way... What the hell do I know about leading a combat unit? I'm a medic. It doesn't make sense. You know its a stupid idea."

Everyone in first platoon knew that not only was Sam a medic, but that she was also a woman. Outside of first platoon, only Captain Coleman, Colonel Bates and a few others knew the whole truth. Many men around the base heard what they believed to be wild stories of a woman in a combat outfit. Captain March was one of those who heard this and believed it to be false. March knew that 1st platoon had a 2nd Lieutenant who served as a medic and the name was Sam. To March this must have been a male doctor who went out into the field. All of the paperwork on Sam while she was assigned to 1st platoon would led anyone to think she was a man. Since March never met Sam face to face. He knew only what the paperwork said. As stupid as Sam thought the order was. It only made sense in military terms since Sam was just under Kern in rank. " Hey....Hey.....Hey.......You need to calm down. " Morgan said partly asking & ordering. " There's nothing we can do but follow the orders given........I'll try to contact Camp Baker and see if the Colonel's around.......He could change the order......But until then.....You're in command Lieutenant. " Morgan added while the men started rallying around Sam.

" You can do this Doc. " Tex said with a smile on his face. Kowalski said that every officer gets command training. While it wasn't combat training, Sam knew the basics. " We'd follow you to hell Doc. " Cruz spoke up which made Motown say they didn't have far to go. The group laughed. Spade put a hand on Sam's shoulder and said they were all here for her. These were after all, Sam's guys. She was one of them and had fucked each of them. Now she was going to lead her guys. Tony Adams & Ray Cobb weren't so sure about a woman in command. The others seemed confident about Sam, but they knew her longer. While it was clear that Sam was a damn good medic under fire. That was different then leading a group in combat. Both men however held their tongues. They would wait and see just how Sam preformed her new duties before passing judgment. Morgan told Sam that he would handle the radio for her. That would keep the fact that she was a woman on a battlefield inside the family. Morgan then pulled out a map he removed from Kern's pocket. It was a map of the area. Morgan pointed out where the America Companies were. Just then Spade asked when they were going to get more ammo? Everyone was running short and this battle wasn't over yet.

Sam looked around the small group of men. All staring back at her, one or two of them with a slightly amused look on their face. Inside she really wasn't convinced. A few weeks of initial officer training immediately after she had volunteered surely couldn't be enough to let her make the decisions out her. That training was delivered and received on the basis that the biggest command decision people like her would have to make would be telling an orderly how many medical supplies were needed or where a particular patient was supposed to be. It certainly wasn't about deploying men in the field and trying to defend against a larger attacking enemy force with diminishing supplies. She looked at Morgan and Kowalski. It should be one of them in charge. They knew so much more than she did. Even most green lieutenants had been through OTC and they had all had proper field command training even if it couldn't really ever prepare someone for out here. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, looking at Morgan as he pulled at the map. She couldn't deny that she was the ranking officer and there was no way that Morgan or Kowalski would let her do something stupid.

"Okay." She looked around at the wounded. "Tex. Cruz. Starting getting these guys together and sort out how we are going to get them to the LZ quickly and with as little exposure as possible. Sergeant.... Sergeants. Can we get more ammunition off the dead VC. It might not be much but then it still might be enough to double what we have. Gather what we can and distribute it around everyone. With any luck one of them might have some 50 calibre shot for Tex as well. How does that sound for now?"

Tex & Cruz jumped into action once Sam called on them. Cruz gathered a few guys to help take the wounded to the LZ. Some of the wounded could walk which made moving them easier. The rest would be carried. While the wounded were being removed, Morgan would see to it that everyone was safe. He & Kern held off on using any of the 1st platoon's grenades. Each man was carrying four high explosive grenades, plus Spade was carrying an M-79 Grenade Launcher with a full belt of ammo. This was a nasty little surprise which awaited the next enemy attack. Morgan filled Sam in on this detail now that she was in command. Kowalski said he'd pass out the ammo from the dead NVA soldiers. Any extra ammo during a battle would be helpful, even if it did come from the enemy. Kowalski, Motown & Tony went to work stripping the enemy soldiers of their weapons & extra clips. Cruz had guys working on getting the wounded out to the LZ. Morgan deployed the rest of the men to better cover the evacuation. Once the wounded were out, no more choppers would be coming in until the battle was over. Morgan stood next to Sam while the men worked, or watched. He told her she was doing fine and not to be worried. She did have him & Kowalski to help her.

A top the mountain looking down on the American lines. Colonel Min watched through his field glasses while the Americans moved about. His rear sneak attack had failed. This was obvious since American soldiers still controlled the knoll. He underestimated these Americans and their tactics. They were nothing like the French, or South Vietnamese soldiers whom he defeated many times in battle. Min remembered the Battle of Dien Bien Phu where over 10,000 French soldiers surrendered. He remembered the pride which was felt by all those fighting for the north. They had beaten a major western power in battle. There would be no such surrender coming from these Americans and a victory no longer seemed assured to Min. His forces greatly out numbered the American forces. But the Americans had better artillery and their airpower was supreme. For the last two days, American jets were pounding the NVA positions on the mountain and in the jungles. F-105 ThunderChief's, A-6 Intruders, A-1 Skyriders, F-4 Phantoms & B-52's made defeating the Americans an almost impossible task. Every ground attack which Min's men made brought more & more air attacks. It was hard for his men to rest at all, let alone care for their wounded. Min gathered his officers together. He had one last plan to defeat the Americans and bring him the gory he wanted. Min told them not to attack at all today. Min hoped that the Americans would think the NVA moved out and they would withdraw their forces the next morning. During this withdraw, Min's forces would attack while the Americans were boarding their helicopters. His men would catch the Americans with their guard down and a great victory could still be had. Such an attack would be a slaughter on the unprepared Americans.

Cruz and the others returned after dropping off the wounded. A few of those wounded soldiers with minor injuries, refused to go. They wanted to stay with Sam and their buddies. It was their way of showing faith in Sam and in her abilities to command. Sam had their respect. She shared their lives in the dirt & blood of the battlefield. They were going to hell at her side, or they would march out of this fight with a victory. Ether way, they would do it as members of the fighting first.

Sam watched as men suddenly started doing what she had told them to. Of course she was used to that in a hospital but not in the field. She wasn't generally the one giving orders in the field unless it was about medical matters. Once Morgan had got a crew working on collecting and redistributing ammunition, Sam helped Tex and Cruz, double checking to make sure that every one was in as good a shape as they could be for the short journey back to the base. She was surprised when Tex and Cruz came back with three of the walking wounded. She was surprised by their return. Who wouldn't want to go back to the relative safety of a hospital. Clean sheets. Cooked food. She watched them they as joined Morgan and Kowalski and the others distributing the extra ammo.

After everything seemed to be settled, with the platoon ready for the next attach, Sam was crouched down looking over to where the main enemy force was located. The longer the day went without the next attach coming, the more uncertain Sam become. They had field rations for lunch and for dinner. A little after dinner word came through on the radio that they were to pull out in the morning. Other than that the rest of the day was quiet other than the noise of the jungle.

"There's no way they would have checked out without us seeing is there?" she asked to no-one in particular. It was Morgan, sitting a little to Sam's left, who answered.

"Wishful thinking." he said, shaking his head. "They're still there. They're just waiting."

"For what?"

"Who knows?"

"What if they're waiting for reinforcements? Maybe we should call in another air strike. Take them out now?"

"The air strikes don't seem to have done much damage so far?" said Tex who was on Sam's right. "Can't trust those flyboys to do anything right."

"Maybe they have access to a tunnel?" Sam suggested. It was a definite possibility. She started thinking through the lack of an attack. She looked round and couldn't help but see quite a lot of enemy soldiers... dead around them... behind and in front. She turned and looked at Morgan.

"They've lost a lot of men. More than us."

"Yeah... and?"

"Do you think they know how badly off we are? Could they be worse off that us?"

"Maybe."

"So... if you have a smaller force and limited ammunition but you don't wanna pull out because you think you can win the battle. You think the enemy might be as badly off as you. So... " She looked out into the dimming light.

"What are you thinking LT?"

"Look. This might sound crazy but... when we come to pull out in the morning, we are going to be vulnerable. If you had limited forces and limited ammunition, maybe you might decide to put everything into one final assault... throw everything at the enemy. They will know that we have been sitting around waiting by then for more than 24 hours. We'll be tired. Maybe complacent. Maybe thinking that they've pulled out already. They launch their strike just as they think we're about to pull out. I think we need to be ready for an attack first thing in the morning." No-one said anything. "If I'm right then it means that we can maybe let the guys get some sleep. Keep a small force awake just in case... What do you think?"

The guys did the work Sam had ordered. They did so as if Kern had been there and gave out the orders. They showed Sam the same respect they had for Kern. Morgan kept a close eye on the jungle which the NVA & Viet Cong attacked from. Kowalski kept his eyes scanning the area to the left & to the rear. There was no telling where the enemy would come from next. However, no attacks came. Day slowly turned into night. The men stayed ready for any attack even while sitting around talking. As the night went along, Morgan who stayed close to Sam listened while she spoke. Sam may not be combat trained, but she was smart. She also had enough time in the jungle to understand how the enemy forces normally worked. When Sam spoke of the enemy waiting to attack. Waiting for a moment when the American forces were unprepared. That sent a chill through Morgan's body. Sam made perfect sense. The NVA had lost a great number of men over the last two days of fighting. No matter how many men they started with. They must be hurting now, at least as far as man power.

Morgan agreed that they could let the men sleep in shifts. That way everyone would have the chance to get some rest. Morgan reminded Sam that their ammo was still low. There was no way of knowing if 1st platoon could hold off an all out attack like the one Sam spoke of. He then asked if she had another plan in mind? One that wasn't defensive? Kowalski then said that at times like this. Bold actions were often on the menu. Actions which take the enemy by surprise, turn their advantage against them and win the day. The two sergeants then went silent waiting to hear if Sam had a bold plan.

Colonel Min sat behind a makeshift desk looking down at a map of the area. He planned on sending his men in slowly while the Americans pulled back. His troops wouldn't start moving until it was clear that the Americans were heading for the landing zone. That would be the perfect time for his troops to slip up and attack while the Americans were off guard. Min ordered his men to keep back in the jungle at their camps until the orders came to move out. He planned on taking the knoll first once the Americans left. This would give his troops a jumping off point to attack the landing zone. Min guessed that the Americans wouldn't pull out until later in the morning. Perhaps around 9, or 10 am. He told his officers to let the men rest until after 8 am. Then they would have the men get ready for the upcoming attack. The rest of Min's forces would wait until the knoll was under their control before joining the attack. Everything hinged on the knoll and Min fully expected this American force to be gone by 9 am. Heading for the landing zone like the rest of the American Army.

Sam looked at Morgan a little surprised by what he seemed to be suggesting.

"You want us to attack? Why put ourselves at risk like that? We have limited ammunition, limited men and whilst we know they've lost a lot of guys, we don't know how many are still there. Not really. Aren't we putting ourselves at risk unnecessarily? And besides. We have orders to pull out."

"Best defense is a good offense! And making an assault on the enemy will provide cover to get others out." Morgan said quietly. There was a sense of resignation amongst the men nearby. They knew the truth of what Morgan was saying but they also knew the risks. But then a mortar could come at them at any minute and take them all out. Sam looked around and then nodded. Shrugged.

"Okay. Set everything up for a dawn assault. And if we don't have the ammunition then I guess we had better go old style and 'fix bayonets'.

They did as planned. Took turns in getting a little sleep. Ate the last of the supplies on the basis that they wouldn't need it. It was agreed that they would make the assault just before dawn and as the sky was just starting to lighten, the soldiers lined up. Sam looked left and right and then gave the order.

At 0550 hours, Morgan had the men line up. He said while it was true ammo was low. They could still win this battle. Most had half a clip if they were lucky. Each man however had four grenades. Morgan told the men to use the grenades first once the fighting started. Spade could do the most damage since he had a full belt for his M-79 grenade launcher. He'd have to fire and reload quickly. Morgan then reminded the men of their training for using the bayonet. He said in the hands of a determined soldier. The bayonet was as deadly a weapon as any rifle, or handgun. Morgan moved into position on Sam's right. Kowalski had the far right of the line while Motown was at the far left side. Spade was a few feet down from on Sam's left. On Sam's immediate left stood Cruz, then Tex, Cobb & Tony. Sam gave the order to fix bayonets. The metal on metal sound of the bayonets locking on the ends of the M-16's was the only sound heard. The area in & around the knoll was as quiet as a graveyard. Tony was beyond frightened at this point, but he guessed that even the bravest of the men around him was scared. He was reminded of something his drill sergeant said. " Only a fool is not afraid during combat."

Deep down, Cobb was feeling the butterfly's. He had been in Nam for almost 2 years and still got nervous when attacking an enemy held position. Cobb was a good soldier who would do his duty. He had just met these people about 48 hours ago and now he was taking part in a bayonet charge with them. And being led by a female medic Lieutenant. This was certainly the craziest thing Cobb had ever taken part of while in Vietnam. Cobb did have a good reason for getting through this alive. He wanted to see what that pretty little Lieutenant looked like with her clothes off. That was enough reason for Cobb to charge into hell at her side. The time ticked away slowly. Morgan looked at his watch and announced that it was 0600 hours. Without speaking a word, Sam took the first step. Each of the men followed moving with her. They all hit the small knoll which once was the only protection. Boots dug into the dirt lifting the men off the ground. The line being led by Sam, moved over the knoll and down the other side. In front of them was the killing field where the bodies of their fallen enemy still laid. They would have to cover 50 yards before entering the jungle where the enemy soldiers were camped.

As any good soldier knows, it takes more to win a battle then just a daring bold plan. One must have luck and one must also be able to take advantage of an enemy's mistakes. Colonel Min had made a mistake by telling his officers to let the men rest longer this morning. None of the NVA were watching the American lines. Nor were any of his snipers deployed in the jungle. Most of the NVA soldiers were still sleeping unaware that the Americans were closing in. A few were up ether eating breakfast, or cleaning themselves. Colonel Min was up sitting at his desk having tea. He never expected any kind of attack coming from the American lines. Min figured the Americans would be eating and getting ready to move out. The bulk of his force was far out from his headquarters. He only had 100 men facing the knoll. While Min's men out numbered 1st platoon. They had no idea 1st platoon was moving against them.

After about 20 yards had been covered, Morgan expected the enemy snipers to start firing. However, no shots came from the jungle. 1st platoon continued on. Soon 30 yards, then 40 yards had been covered and still no gun fire. After 50 yards, 1st platoon was inside the jungle which provided their enemy with cover. Using hand signals, Morgan got everyone to stop. He listened for a moment before hearing the sounds of men talking. It was coming from some 30 yards ahead. Morgan motioned for everyone to move out slowly. Once closer to the camp he stopped them again. Just head was the encampment of the NVA. Morgan motioned again spreading the men out on either side of the camp. He pulled a grenade from his belt and pulled the pin. They had taken the enemy by surprise. Now it was time to take the fight to them. Morgan tossed the grenade into the camp. It rolled to a stop before exploding. Four NVA soldiers were taken out by Morgan's grenade. One by one, each of the men of 1st platoon began tossing grenades. The enemy camp become a place of chaos. Explosions everywhere. Men dying while trying to reach for their weapons. Spade was launching grenades in with deadly accuracy. His M-79 gave out a thud sound with each grenade launched. Minutes into the battle, the NVA soldiers were running for their lives. Some ran straight into the waiting weapons of 1st platoon. Gun fire was finally heard. Tex had what ammo he had left on one belt which was wrapped around his strong forearm. He rose up cutting down the on coming soldiers. Sam yelled out for everyone to move into the camp. By now, what was left of the enemy force was running the other way and they were unarmed.

Morgan stood beside Sam in the center of the NVA camp. The members of 1st platoon milled about while Morgan & Sam looked up at the mountain. " Now the NVA knows how the French felt after Dien Bien Phu. " Morgan gave Sam a sly smile. Meanwhile, up at the top of the mountain. Colonel Min received the news that the Americans had broken through their lines. He was shocked to hear that there were no forces between his command post and the attacking American force. Min didn't know how small the American force was. Nor did he know they didn't plan on taking the mountain. Min ordered all of his forces to retreat from the area. There would be no slaughter of American troops by the NVA on this day. Min was defeated in battle and his forces would slip away to fight again. Tex, Cruz, Motown, Spade, Cobb, Tony & Kowalski came up to Sam. Cruz handed her a captured NVA flag. " Here you go LT.......Your first captured enemy flag. " Cruz said with a smile. It was customary for a new commanding officer to get a captured flag after a battle was won. Morgan then said it was time for their victory dance. He reached into his almost empty pack and pulled out a box of cigars. Everyone got a cigar from the box. The last one was for Sam. Morgan held it out to her asking her to join them.

Sam really couldn't believe how lucky they were. To make it all the way across the open ground without a single shot being fired was something none of them had expected. With every step, the sound of the line moving forward had been deafening in Sam's ears... every rustle of grass and foliage. Every second she half expected an explosion from someone putting their foot in the wrong place. The only sound that was louder was the sound of her own heart thumping away. They reached the jungle and then Sam saw the hand signal. Everyone went down on seeing Morgan raise and lower his clenched fist. They all listed. All heard the voices. On Morgan's command their moved forward. The whole team knew what each single meant. Each man knew where Morgan wanted them to go and in being placed where they were, they knew almost exactly what Morgan was thinking. This was what made a good team; why a team survived in the jungle. Those most at risk were new guys. They needed to learn fast. Adams was doing exactly what he needed to right now; staying on Motown's heels. Watching and learning and praying.

When the explosions started following almost immediately by the shouting and gunfire, everything became a blur. Sam had no real idea what she was doing, where she was going... she was taking her shots with as much care as she could in the circumstances and almost as quickly as the noise erupted it finished. She stood in the middle of the clearing which was now deserted of enemy soldiers, breathing hard, looking around. Everyone seemed unhurt. She took the flag from Cruz and looked at it. She smiled. As she looked around the others and took the cigar from Morgan, there was a rumble of thunder overhead and the heavens opened. She looked up at the canopy above their heads, the rain loud on the leaves above them. They had little cover though. She started laughing as she leaned forward and let Morgan light the cigar.

"Okay... I guess we better get ready to ship out before we drown."

Within a few minutes they were back to their own camp by which time they were all soaked to the skin. Putting on the green ponchos that they had left in their packs when they made their attack was pretty pointless. They cleared up and Morgan called in the choppers. Sam concentrated on packing up medical gear while Morgan and Kowalski got the men sorted. Once ready, they stood just to the side of the LZ on the edge of the jungle. They were all pleased to be getting out of there alive. As they stood, all pulling on cigarettes talking about getting back to Camp... back to hot food... clean sheets... some leave in Saigon maybe if they were lucky. Secretly each man was imagining being with Sam... most of them remembering past times with her... As they smoked their cigarettes, as she joined in the conversation, laughing and joking and talking about how much she wanted a shower, they were pretty much all thinking the same thing. All taking quiet moments to look her up and down... her hair soaking wet, dripping down onto her neck. There was a small rivulet of water which ran from her hair, down the side of her neck and down the front of her open shirt, a shirt which was clinging tight to her skin as she leaned against a tree. They were pretty much all having the same thoughts for sure.

Seeing Sam in a wet t-shirt was a treat for all the men. After the last few days of fighting. This sight was a great way to head back to base on. the last thing they wanted to remember was the hell they had just been through. Sam's wet t-shirt gave them all something better to think about. It was to bad Sam was wearing a bra. Her tits showing through the wet fabric would have made this sight even better. A few of the guys thought about asking Sam to take it off. But that went against how they treated Sam out in the field. Here, Sam was one of them. She was their medic and they wouldn't disrespect her in the field. The guys waited while the rain continued to fall. Company after company was pulled from the line and sent back to base. Word was already spreading about the bayonet attack pulled off by 1st platoon. The officer & men from the company not far away watched as 1st platoon went over the knoll. It was the damnest thing they had ever seen. Like something you'd see in an old World War II movie. A jet pilot made the report that the enemy was treating from the field. It didn't take a genius to see that 1st platoon won the battle with their charge.

1st platoon was the last to be picked up at the LZ. Morgan & Sam waited and watched as each of the men climbed onto a helicopter. Once they were the only two left, Morgan said that all their men were off the field. He then gave Sam a salute before boarding the chopper. Sam the last member of the platoon to leave the field. She stepped into the helicopter and it lifted off. The trip back seemed very quick. The last of the choppers were unloading after they touched down. The rain had stopped by now and everything was hot again. Morgan tossed his pack to Kowalski along with his M-16. He headed straight for supply. Motown said Morgan was going after Sergeant Pressman. " Ah......Damn it! " Kowalski growled out as his tossed his gear & Morgan's to the guys. He took off after Morgan hoping to catch him. Morgan was by now running and even Kowalski would catch him in time. " You know LT......That Pressman is always shorting us out in the field. " Tex said as he stood watching Kowalski disappeared around a building. " Yeah!......That fat bastard is more worried about lining his own pockets then give up what we need to fight. " Cruz chimed in. " He ain't never spent anytime in the field.....He just sits behind his desk thinking of ways he can become rich..........Makes me wonder who's side he's really on. " Spade added while the men stood with Sam.

Morgan reached the supply depot for the base. He was yelling out for Pressman who was sitting at his desk. Pressman just looked on as Morgan came in. He greeted Morgan, but his greeting fell on deaf ears. Morgan grabbed Pressman by the shirt and yanked him to his feet. Pressman started yelling for Morgan to let him go! Morgan slammed Pressman against the wall. " Don't you ever short my men again when we're in the field!.......You could have gotten us all killed! " Morgan yelled out while Pressman warned Morgan he would bring him up on charges. Kowalski rushed in and pulled Morgan off of Pressman. " Do what you want fat man!........I'll face a court marshal as long as I get a shot at you! " Morgan said while struggling to get free from Kowalski.

Sam couldn't help but smile as Morgan saluted. She knew he wasn't taking the piss but it wasn't something that he did as a matter of routine with Kern. She climbed in after him and set herself down on the floor of the chopper, looking out over the hill as the chopper lifted up and began to bank left and away. She knew they had been lucky. Had things gone badly she was pretty sure that nothing Morgan and Kowalski might have said would have prevented her being held accountable for any disaster. But as it was they were going home with far fewer casualties than might have been expected.

Once they landed, Sam really just wanted that shower but she decided to oversee the unloading of the chopper. She was quickly aware of Morgan handing his pack over and disappearing quickly - which was unusual as he ordinarily would make sure the guys were all okay - and then she heard Motown and saw Kowalski's reaction. She decided she had better follow and in truth she wanted to have a little talk with Pressman herself. By the time she had caught up, voices were already being raised. As she stepped into the supply office, Morgan was shouting across the room as Kowalski had him pinned to a wall. Pressman was shouting back and threatening Morgan.

"ENOUGH GENTLEMEN! Sergeant." She looked at Morgan. The last thing she wanted was to be visiting him in the stockade. "STAND DOWN....I said... STAND. DOWN." She stared at him and saw him visibly relax. Kowalski did the same easing his grip. Sam turned and looked at Pressman. He was grinning smugly clearly pleased that Morgan was getting it in the neck.

"My apologies Sergeant Pressman. Things have been a little tense over the last few days. Sergeant Morgan is somewhat tired." She could almost feel Morgan's stare burning into her back but she was watching Pressman, seeing him look her up and down. "I'm sure you can understand," she continued. "A man of your undoubted experience. Bound to be able to appreciate what it's like out in the field. How long have you been in the 'Nam Sergeant Pressman?"

"10 months Ma'am and yeah... I know... Thousands of requests go through me. I know just what's needed. And I got pressure on me too Ma'am... From the brass... Making sure that we don't oversupply... Risk losing US gear to the enemy." Sam nodded.

"Of course." She stood thinking for a moment... Or rather making it look like she was thinking. Then she looked like she had an idea. "I think the men in the field could learn a lot from you. So I tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to speak to the Colonel. I'm going to suggest that your expertise would be invaluable....Definitely....Invaluable....in the field. I'm going to ask that you get reassigned." Sam took a step towards him as she saw the words starting to sink in. "To a field unit. Then you can be right there... With the enemy in front of you...and you could explain to the men who do the actual fighting... You can explain to them exactly why you don't think they should have anymore ammunition. Why they should use what they have a little more carefully." Pressman wasn't smiling. His sweaty fat face was ashen. Sam turned to Morgan and Kowalski. It was their turn to smile now. "I think Sergeant Morgan, that you might better understand Sergeant Pressman's perspective if he was right there with you... In the field... Getting his hands dirty. Don't you think?"

"I think you may be right Lieutenant."

"But you can't do that. I'm not a soldier. I work for the Quartermaster." Sam turned and looked at him. She took another step towards him. She smiled.

"The Colonel and I... Well... I think I might be able to persuade him... I'm sure you can imagine " Sam's smile disappeared again. "I'm going to do everything I can to get your fat ass out from behind that desk and relocated to a firebase. But not mine. I don't want you within 50 miles of my men. For their safety and yours. In the meantime, you ever screw my platoon again, and I guarantee that it will be the last screw you get!"

She turned, looked at Morgan and Kowalski and smiled. "I think we're done here gentleman and I need to make an appointment to see the Colonel." She wasn't really expecting to see the Colonel or get Pressman reassigned but Pressman didn't know that.

Pressman first thoughts when the pretty little female Lieutenant started talking was that she was on his side. He figured that she had heard how he could get anything. Pressman was a big man in the black market, both literal and figurative. Most people knew that he could get anything they wanted. He gain favors from officers because of his connection. However, Pressman couldn't offer what Sam had naturally. Sam was pretty, had a hot pussy between her legs and a tight ass. Pressman knew that Sam could get him transferred if she wanted too. All the booze, porno movies & magazines, steaks and beer couldn't save him from a willing pussy, ass & mouth. Pressman already heard rumors about Sam & Colonel Bates. He knew that even if those rumors were only slightly true. Sam could and would do what she said. Pressman wasn't a man who normally backed down and certainly not from a woman. But, Sam was holding all the cards in this case. Pressman could only stand there looking very defeated. However, even now Pressman was deep in thought of how he would get revenge on Sam for her remarks. This part of the base was Pressman's territory. His kingdom which he ruled over and Sam had just dressed him down like no one else had before. Pressman would make Sam pay for her actions no matter how long it took him.

Morgan & Kowalski stood back and let Sam take charge. She was still in command of the platoon after all. At first Morgan had thought Sam lost her mind. She seemed to be playing up to that fat bastard Pressman. This changed when Sam began talking about having Pressman transferred. Soon both Morgan & Kowalski were smiling. Sam had the situation well in hand and it wouldn't cost anyone any stripes. Morgan, Kowalski & Sam left Pressman's office. Kowalski said that Sam should play poker more often. It was hard to tell whether or not she was bluffing. While walking back to where the men of 1st platoon waited. Morgan talked about how reports needed to be filled out. Not only his & Kowalski's, but Sam's. She was still the commanding officer and needed to do the reports Kern would have filled out. Until Kern returned, or until someone else was placed in command. Sam would be overseeing the day to day operations of running 1st platoon. She wouldn't be able to return to the hospital this time. Her place was the 1st platoon headquarters which was near the barracks where the men called home. Morgan suggested that after they all get cleaned up. They met at the office and fill out their reports. Then they could get a hot meal and maybe have a drink or two.

The three of the walked back to where they had left their gear. Some of the platoon were waiting for them to return; expectant faces silently asking 'what happened?'. No-one answered their questions but instead they each picked up their gear.

"Don't you guys want to be somewhere else right now?" Sam asked as she swung her pack over one shoulder and then reached down a picked up the second. "You were making enough noise out there about hot showers and clean sheets and cooked food. Do you need a written invitation?" Most of the guys hurriedly started picking up their own gear and looking a little uncomfortable as standing around. It was obvious though that some of them wanted to know what Morgan had done to Pressman.

"Serg? What happened? Did you … Is he…?" It was Tex who finally broke the relative silence and asked the question that was on everyone's lips. Before Morgan could respond, Sam interrupted.

"Nothing happened… because we don't want one of the best sergeants in country to be sitting on his ass in a cell, do we Sergeant?" She looked across to Morgan as she walked over and stood next to Tex. Morgan smiled.

"Oh I don't know. I'm sure I could get used to sitting…" He swung his own pack over his shoulder

"Well, get over it Sergeant, because you're not going to do that as long as I have anything to do with it." Sam turned to Tex. "Meanwhile, Sergeant Pressman is contemplating a potential relocation. One that might give him a better insight into the reality of war." Tex wasn't sure he knew what that meant and he looked from Sam across to where Morgan and Kowalski were standing, ready to head back to their billet.

"The Lieutenant said she was going to get him a transfer… to the field." Tex looked back at Sam and grinned. Sam shrugged. "Seemed only fair. Now… you guys can hang around here if you want in wet stinking clothes, but I have an appointment. Sergeants. I'll meet you back at the platoon HQ in an hour? That enough time for you? The rest of you… get your gear packed away, get cleaned up and get some proper food…. and then… then as I understand it, you will be on leave. But we'd better wait for the formal order to come down before you completely let loose."

With that, Sam moved passed Tex and walked back to her quarters. She didn't see them all watch her as she walked away. Once inside her room, she dropped her kit, stepped into the bathroom and turned on the shower and then undressed, leaving the clothes in a pile on the floor. She was pretty soon that she was going to requisition new everything. The shower was heavenly and for fifteen minutes she just stood under the hot jets, letting them pound into her skin as she turned slowly, or stood for a moment to let the water really get to one muscle or another, before moving around a little more. Only then did she get the soap. After the last few days, the smell of clean was heavenly.

Once done in the shower, she wrapped herself in a thick green towel and then sorted out clean clothes from drawers next to her bed. Underwear, pants, t-shirt, shirt. Fresh. Crisp. Clean. Dry. Everything she wanted at that moment. It was strange how basic things suddenly took on an almost luxury status. If only someone could switch off the damn humidity of this place. In the end she was back in the HQ within 45 minutes and that gave her a chance to start writing her report before Morgan and Kowalski got there.

After grabbing their gear, Morgan & Kowalski went back to their places. The made sure their gear was put away before each man took a shower. While one man showered, the other one shaved to save time. Morgan & Kowalski talked about how well Sam had done during the battle. As a field medic, Sam was tops. She however faced a new challenge after being placed in combat command. In her first action after taking command, Sam won the battle while not losing a life. Her combat command only lasted a short time, but Sam showed a woman was capable of leading a group of soldiers. It wouldn't change anything as far as getting women into combat during this war. However, Sam's actions would be talked about and pointed out for years to come. Those who would push for woman in combat roles would hold up Sam as the poster girl for how good women could be. This of course would only be talked about behind closed doors and would take many years before those in power would agree to let women not only serve, but lead. While Morgan & Kowalski were getting dressed in some clean clothes. Morgan told Kowalski he believed Sam would be at the office before them. Kowalski just laughed and said Sam would be to long in the shower. The two sergeants then bet $20 dollars on who would be right.

Morgan & Kowalski left the quarters heading for the office. They made a stop at 1st platoon's barracks long enough to check on the men. They wanted to see if everyone got their gear stowed away. Once the check was made, they left walking just a short distance before entering the office. There sitting at Kern's desk was Sam, already hard at work on her report. Morgan smiled as he turned towards Kowalski. " I told ya she'd beat is here. " Morgan grinned as he spoke. He held out his hand looking for his winnings. Kowalski just shook his head while mumbling about losing the bet. He reached into his pocket, pulled out some cash, then pealed off a couple of 10's. Kowalski placed them into Morgan's hand before head to the filing cabinet. He reached in pulling the report forms for him & Morgan. The two sergeants then took their desks on ether side of where Sam was sitting. Over the next 20 minutes, the two sergeant typed up their reports. The reports were then signed and placed on Sam's desk for her to read and counter sign. Moments later, a corporal came in throwing a salute. He said Colonel Bates wanted to see 1st platoon's reports once they were finished. He added that the colonel also wanted to see Lieutenant Keller once she was done. The corporal left to return to the base headquarters. Morgan looked at Sam saying that it was normal. He said Kern always took the reports into headquarters. Morgan expected that the meeting with Bates would be about their upcoming leave. Since Captain Coleman was gone, the orders for leave would be given out from Bates to the lieutenant in command of 1st platoon. Coleman would have gotten those orders then passed them down to Kern. Sam would get them directly from headquarters since she was still in command.

Sam looked up and smiled as the Sergeants walked in but returned her attention to the forms. They required a pretty simple explanation of the facts and because there were no losses in the actual battle itself things were much easiest. She made sure that her reports made frequent references to the poor supplies and she made sure that she gave plenty of praise to the men - particularly both sergeants.

When the corporal came in and told her that the Colonel wanted to see her, she simply nodded and then listened to Morgan's explanation of what to expect. When she had finished her report, she stood up and poured herself and the sergeants a mug of coffee. Then she set herself on the edge of the desk, legs stretched out in front of her, as she read the reports from Morgan and Kowalski, sipping coffee. There were no surprises in their reports and once done, she headed off to see the Colonel, with Kowalsi telling her they would wait for her there.

She'd been to Bates' office once before of course and as she walked across the small quadrangle to get to it, images flickered through her head and she felt a few butterflies in her tummy. Images of being on her knees sucking that huge cock. Images of being bent over the desk. She arrived at the office and pushed the images out if her head. The corporal was there. He took her reports from her and disappeared into the Colonel's office. A few minutes later he came back and then told her to go in.

The office looked a little different in day light but it was basically familiar. She stepped up to the desk. Stood and waited, watching as the man was still reading. When he looked up she saluted but said nothing.

Bates returned Sam's salute before returning to his reading. He told her to stand at ease without raising his head. Bates finished with the sergeant's reports before reading Sam's account. Everything seemed pretty straight forward and what he had read from other reports. Bates closed the last folder then placed it on his desk. " You did well Lieutenant on your first combat command........Much better then most do. " Bates said while looking Sam's body over. He'd like nothing more than to have Sam right now, but business came before pleasure. Plus it was day time and the office was filled with people who didn't need to see a sex scene in the colonel's office. Bates told Sam that 1st platoon was on leave for the next two weeks. He said they'd be shipped out to Saigon later today. Bates also told Sam that since the platoon was going on leave. There wouldn't be any need for a new commanding officer. Sam would stay in charge until 1st platoon returned to Camp Baker. Bates opened the top right drawer of his desk. He reached in and pulled something out. Bates then stood up, moved around his desk to where Sam was standing. He reached his hands up to Sam's shirt collar and removed her 2nd lieutenants bar. Bates then placed a 1st lieutenants bar on her shirt while saying she was getting promoted.

Bates said that this promotion was for her medical work while under fire. However, he admitted that he was really promoting her because of her actions in winning the battle. While the reports gave credit to the men and to the sergeants. Morgan & Kowalski's reports stated that Sam came up with the idea for fixing bayonets. " I'm very proud of you Sam.......This experiment of placing you into a platoon as their medic has worked out great......I've always believed women could fight along side men in the field........Someday the army will have no choice but to change their views on women in combat........When that day comes......Remember it started with you. " Bates finished putting Sam's new bar into place. He congratulated her with a hand shake. Bates saw women as useful tools and believed they could fight and lead. He also liked the idea of having women around so the right ones, like Sam could be used. This was another reason why he saw women as useful tools. Bates loved to fuck women under his command. During Korea, Bates commanded a company of soldiers. He only got sex when going back to Seoul, or Tokyo. That was no where near enough sex. You'd only find women on bases and at hospitals then. Vietnam still only saw women on bases & hospitals. The two wars were very different in how they were being fought. In Korea there was clear battle lines. In Vietnam, the enemy was everywhere. All of South Vietnam was a combat zone. Bates's thinking was that women were already serving in combat zones. So why not put them in platoons? He'd love nothing more than to have female soldiers, or commanding officers which he could fuck. Bates decided that he could experiment by placing a woman in the field. This was why he picked Sam to join 1st platoon. Having her as part of the platoon put her under his direct command. Bates could see how Sam preformed out in the field while having her as one of his officers.

Bates told Sam that after she returned from Saigon. He'd expect her to show her gratitude in a more personal and private way. Bates said he'd be working late in his office on the day she returned. He told her to report to him here at 2100 hours on that day. Sam could then show how grateful she was. Bates warned Sam not to be late. He said he'd have to spank her before fucking her. " You may report to your platoon Lieutenant.......Get your men ready to leave.......The choppers will be on the pads at 1400 hours.......They'll fly you all down to Tan Son Nhut Air Base.......Try and keep your men out of trouble and enjoy yourself Sammy. " Bates ended his final words with a sly smile. He returned to his seat behind his desk. After a salute, Sam was free to go.

Sam tucked her hands behind her back and stood relatively relaxed. This wasn't a parade ground. Relaxed except for the pounding of her chest - not sure what Bates might finish up saying or doing. She thanked him for the compliment and because of what Morgan and Kowalski had said to her, she wasn't surprised by the fact that they were going on leave, She couldn't help but notice him look her over. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other. She didn't see what he pulled out the drawer and she tensed a little as he walked towards her. She had to stop herself from flinching as he raised his hands. It wasn't that she was scared; she just had no idea of what he was about to do. When he started to unclip the single gold bar on her left collar. And then the right. He replaced each one with a single silver bar. She was surprised; this was completely unexpected. When he was done she shook his outstretched hand and thanked him.

Then what had been a completely ordinary professional encounter suddenly changed and Sam tensed again. She turned her head and looked at him; a long look. She swallowed hard. Bates just stood there and smiled. He knew that at that moment, they were both remembering how good his cock felt buried inside her. He returned to his seat and dismissed her. Sam hesitated for a moment thinking about two weeks time. The next time she would be in the office in front of him. She swallowed again and saluted before turning and leaving the room. Once outside, she took a deep breath and exhaled slowly and then headed back to the platoon HQ.

Morgan and Kowalski were both sat drinking coffee. Kowalski had his feet stretched out on the desk. Both were smiling as they looked at her on her entrance. She was a little unnerved for a moment not realising that they had been talking about there leave and her part in it with any luck. She smiled back.

"Well. You were right. We're on leave. Two weeks... although it looks like you gentleman have already started!" She walked over and pushed Kowalski's feet off the desk. "Do you want to go and tell the guys. There will be a chopper ready to take us to Tan Son Nhut at 14.00. Tell them not to be late if they want to get out of her today."

The two sergeants were fully expecting leave time. They would have been beyond shocked if no leave came. Seeing Sam in the doorway brought grins to their faces. Before Sam pushed his feet off the desk, Kowalski said there's no time like now when starting leave. He spoke in a cocky tone which was nothing new for Kowalski. Sam told Kowalski to tell the men about their leave and the time they'd be heading out. Kowalski was a little shocked by Sam's action, but he just saluted her before heading out. Seeing Sam with such a take charge attitude was new. She was however, the commanding officer right now and not just a medic. Morgan fought back the urge to laugh when Kowalski left. He pushed his chair back from his desk and stood up. Morgan walked over to where Sam stood. He grabbed her, spun her around and kissed her hard. Morgan's hands gripped Sam's ass checks while they kissed. This was his way of showing Sam that she was still a woman in a man's world. Morgan broke the kiss pulling back slightly. His eyes caught sight of the silver bars on her collar. " I see the leave time wasn't the only thing you got while visiting with the colonel.......He must be very pleased with you to promote you to 1st lieutenant. " Morgan said while smiling at Sam. The rumors of Sam & the colonel were nothing new to Morgan. He knew just what kind of woman Sam really was and what the colonel was like. Morgan knew that nothing could have happened at the officer during the day. He was however sure that Sam would be thanking Bates in some very private way later on.

Morgan suggested that they get some lunch before packing for their trip to Saigon. It was a chance for Sam to show off her new rank. Plus she could eat with her men for the first time. Morgan stepped back holding out his hand towards the door. " After you Lieutenant. " Morgan said while standing there. Once Sam moved ahead, Morgan followed her out the door. His eyes watched as her ass moved from side to side while she walked. Sam had a nice sway to her hips as she moved slowly. About halfway to the mess all, they met Kowalski. He told Sam the men were already done with their packing. The men were now at the mess hall getting lunch before they left for Saigon. Morgan & Kowalski flanked Sam on ether side as they entered the large room. The men of 1st platoon were already sitting at a table talking over their plans for the up coming leave. Morgan offered Sam a coffee cup and a tray for her food. Once Sam, Morgan, & Kowalski got their food, they joined their men. Upon seeing Sam and her new rank. The men all stood saluting her. " Good afternoon Lieutenant! " The men all spoke as one.

Sam squealed in surprise as she felt herself grabbed from behind. It took her brain a few seconds to realize what was happening by which time she was being held tightly by Morgan. Her hands were flat against his upper chest but she wasn't pushing him away. It didn't take long before she was kissing him back and then it was over. Morgan didn't want to take too much of a risk of someone coming in.

"I don't think this is part of the standing operating procedures, Sergeant." Morgan ignored her comment as he noticed the 1st Lieutenant bar. She smiled and shrugged. "What can I say? Some of us are just born leaders I guess!"

Lunch sounded better than good. "I'm starving. I feel like I haven't eaten for a week." As they stepped outside she out a cigarette. A few moments later they met up with Kowalsi and the three of them headed to the mess. Once inside she took the mug and the tray offered by Morgan and then loaded up with ham and eggs and potatoes. When she reached the table and everyone stood up, she stared back at them all, feeling herself blushing.

"Will you guys just sit down and eat. Kern will be back by the time leave is over so nothing is any different."

The guys laughed a little at Sam's comment. Once everyone sat down the conversation turned to their upcoming leave. The guys all had big plans on how this time in Saigon would be spent. Motown, Spade, Cruz & Tex were plotting another visit to Madame Wu's. Their last visit was the best time any of them had while in Vietnam. Sam played a huge role in the enjoyment during that time and the guys weren't going to leave her out. They were already hard at work on a scheme which would end up with Sam at the whore house. Motown had already sent word to Madame Wu about Sam and her visit to Saigon. Madame Wu was very pleased to hear that the biggest money making whore she had ever seen would be coming back to her place. It would be a cause of a major celebration. The guys weren't the only ones plotting out how Sam would spend her leave time. Morgan & Kowalski also had something in store for their pretty lieutenant. They had their own special place to take Sam during her stay.

During lunch, all the guys talked openly about bar hopping. Finding hot girls and maybe even spending time at the beach. Morgan told Sam that he was friends with the supply sergeant down in Saigon. He talked about getting some beer, perhaps some steaks and made some crabs for a beach cookout. Morgan quietly asked Sam if she would like to join him? They could spend some alone time together and get to know each other better. They did have two full weeks to spend and plenty of time for other activities. Tex finally asked Sam what she was planning to do with her time? She had been the only one who hadn't said much of her plans. The question Tex asked made everyone else stop talking. They looked at Sam waiting to hear what she had to say.
