Mission Codename: Cannon Fodder (BlisteredBlood & Devxx)

Just before Thanatos stepped outside, however, he decided to hang back a bit before he went out with Eris, pondering over the answers he had received from Eris. There was something more about their current situation that she wasn't revealing to her and come hell or high water, he was going to find out what it was, even if it meant that he had to grill her the entire time. When it came to interrogation techniques, Thanatos always had a way in dealing with someone that was holding back information from him. Sometimes it was benign. Other times? Not so much. But this wasn't the place nor was it the time in pressing her for more information right now. There was still a job to do and it had to be done one way or another.

Soon enough, Thanatos eventually came out into the morning air, inhaling a slow and steady breath in through his nose before exhaling it out through his mouth. It felt like it was going to be one of those days, according to him.

He hadn't gone more than five steps out into the area when something got his attention. The sound of loud, boisterous laughter echoing through the air. That sound alone didn't found like much, but when his eyes fixated onto where the direction of the sound was coming from, it seemed as though his theory was correct. Looking outward, he could now see a massive giant of a man - a black one, at that - looking down at Eris wanting to know where a "little man that cut down Sai" was. It wouldn't be too hard for Thanatos to put two and two together before his eyes narrowed slightly. "Great..." He muttered to himself.

Is this another one of those foolhardy CROSS members they sent out after me? That guy looks like he belongs in a traveling freakshow of some sort. He thought as a familiar frown became etched onto his face before he decided to approach the two with his hand clenched tightly into fists.

"Hey Abassi. How the hell did you even fit in that thing?" Eris asked with a smirk as she waved towards the SUV. "Hell, you could have been mistaken for a truck yourself." Eris crossed her hands over her chest as she looked up at him with a steely gaze. Even though he towered over her completely she was still calm as she looked over at him. The truck drivers were filtering out and staring at this confrontation wondering just what was going on. It wasn't often one saw a sight like this and they were definitely not missing the show. A few tried to puff out their chest and act like they weren't scared of the large man but one look from Abassi and they slinked away to the shadows.

"Very funny little girl. When I finish tearing him limbs off I'm coming after you for our unfinished business." He leaned down and growled at her as he flared out his nostrils like a bull would. Eris merely smirked and stepped aside as she heard footsteps behind her. No doubt Thanatos had caught sight of them outside and was coming over to investigate. "Ah, so you're the special little soldier huh?" Abassi said as he stepped aside from Eris and walked over to where Thanatos was. His eyes looked the other man up and down before another grin spread over his features and he let out another laugh. "Ha! You're pretty small boy. Sai must have been off of his game if he got beaten by a whelp like you."

Abassi flexed his muscles as the veins throbbed under his skin as a show to the other man just how strong he was. His armor flashed in the sunlight and his hand tightened on the mambele as he placed it behind his shoulder and continued to look over at Thanatos. When they told him about this super soldier he was supposed to be hunting he had thought it would be something more impressive then the man standing before him. Sure he might have had the speed to beat Sai but that flimsy little sword wouldn't be able to break his armor and there was no one who could match Abassi for strength.

"Tell you what. Since I'm such a nice guy I'll even let you have the first punch." The arrogance in his voice was evident as he put his hands by his side and stood still as if to let Thanatos have an easy punch at him.

In truth, Thanatos literally slapped a palm over his face before he shook his head with a groan. This guy was perhaps one of the most pigheaded clowns he had ever had to tangle with. This was the fifth ranked member in the CROSS organization? This oversized clown of a man?

"You know, you're probably either the dumbest smartass I've ever seen before in my life or you're one of the most puffed up, bullheaded, self-centered, ego-maniacal, egotistical jackasses I have ever seen. Either way, I see you for no more than five seconds and already I'm beginning to hate your guts." Thanatos commented before he looked up at the arrogant face of the massive South African man. "But, if you insist on letting me have the first shot, then I suppose I might as well take it since you so 'kindly' offered it to me. Just do me a favor and don't come bitching to me in case if I break your jaw." He warned.

With that, Thanatos smirked to himself as he knelt down, not even bothering with drawing his blade this time around. In one jump, Thanatos had cocked a fist back and put all of his proverbial might behind it before he pushed off of the ground and threw a vicious jumping right hook, connecting hard into Abassi's cheek.

Abassi felt his head snap sharply to the left as Thanatos fist connected with his jaw. A sharp pain spread through him as he felt his jaw move out of place from the force of the punch. For about twenty seconds he didn't make a single move and then he slowly reached his hand over and turned his head back to it's proper position. The man moved his jaw around and felt it creak and crack until it finally snapped back into place. A thin trail of blood could be seen flowing from his lip and yet there was still a grin on his face as he looked down on the smaller man. "Heh, you're going to have to do a lot better then that." When he opened his mouth to smile more blood could be seen flowing out of his mouth giving him a sinister grin.

"Show that big man whose boss!" A voice called out from the distance as a group of truckers had gathered around to watch the fight. Abassi's black eyes turned sharply to the man before reaching to his side and pulling out a pistol. Raising it towards the group the truckers screamed and ran for cover as they tried to get away from his path. "You know, I think this little match of ours needs some fireworks." His tone was sinister as he suddenly shifted his hand so the gun was pointing towards the gas pumps. Laughing, the man pulled the trigger and let loose five bullets at the various pumps. A resounding explosion could be heard as two of them burst into flames and people screamed in pain.

"Now then, it's my turn." Abassi pulled back his how fist and held it above his shoulder before bringing it down with force towards Thanatos. If his aim was true he would hit the other man in the stomach hard enough to send him flying back a good foot or two. The muscles shifted and bulged as the fist flew through the air at a speed one wouldn't expect from a man his size.

Thanatos wasn't exactly surprised that even his hardest punch - despite he was in his normal state - did next to nothing of a man that size. He closed one eye for a moment and shook his right hand out for a moment before he spoke. "Feh. Shoulda known it wouldn't do much against a big ol' sack of shit like you." He said, feigning that his hand was hurting him before he reclenched his fist and raised it and watched Abassi closely, waiting to see what he would do.

But the odd thing of it was, Thanatos saw the larger man simply raise a gun up which caused the bystanders in the area to panic and before he could get a word in edgewise to get them out of the way, he would soon find that an explosion from the gas pumps would cut him off, causing Thanatos to raise his arms up defensively from the blast and shut his eyes for a moment. Once it was settled down, Thanatos looked over to where the explosion came from, seeing that quite a handful of people were hurt from the blast. Some more seriously than others.

A look of rage was now on Thanatos's face as he aimed his eyes of obsidian back to Abassi and snarled at him aggressively. "You want fireworks, huh? Then allow me to give you a fireworks show you won't forget." He hissed out to him. From there, he watched the lumbering giant of a man raise a fist back and swung it at him with an extreme amount of force behind it. but instead of dodging it, Thanatos instead stood firmly as he waited for that fist to come within its contact range. As soon as it got close enough, Thanatos lashed his hands out suddenly and caught the huge fist in his hands squarely, causing the smaller of the two to be pushed back by a shorter distance than Abassi would've liked.

However, Thanatos still held a very tight grip on that hand, even if it took two of his own to hold him there, glaring up at him with a look that would condemn a normal man straight to hell. "I'm not done yet, asshole!" Thanatos seethed as he then suddenly pulled Abassi closer to him, flipped him over his shoulder and tossed him with a great deal of exertion straight into the concrete.

Abassi was surprised when instead of breaking the other man's bones, his fist was caught by Thanatos. The man gave a mighty grunt and tried to pull away but found himself stuck in the almost vice like grip that he had. "You little prick." Abassi grunted angrily as he tried to pull his hand away but still found himself firmly held in place. Few people had even been able to survive his punches let alone stop them in mid fight. Maybe this kid was a bit more dangerous then he had first thought.

The surprise only mounted as he felt himself being pulled up off the ground and over the air before being slammed back down on the hard concrete. A resounding thud echoed through the truck stop as his large body bounced once and left quite an imprint on the heavy concrete. His head smacked against the hard ground and pain shot through him as he tried to process exactly what had happened. Apparently that puny man had managed to not only lift him but also slam him back down like he was a rag doll. Abassi blinked angrily as he filtered in the sounds of screaming and the scent of smoke filling the air while looking up to Thanatos' looming figure. His body ached like hell but the armor had managed to take most of the damage that would have snapped the spine of any other man.

Anger filled his eyes and he snarled like a wild bull before his hand shot out and grabbed onto Thanatos' ankle. He squeezed the flesh in his fist hoping to hear the satisfying crack of bone breaking as his large hand kept putting an incredible amount of pressure on the other man's leg. Then with one great growl he pulled hard so that Thanatos would be literally pulled off his feet and end up face first into the concrete.

Around them was a scene of chaos as people were running left and right trying to get away from the craziness that was ensuing. A few had gotten into their trucks and high tailed it out of there while others still had sought shelter in the little convenience store. The flames from the first two explosions had spread and another pump had caught fire before another explosion sounded. The fire was almost surrounding the place like a giant ring as it destroyed anything that stood in it's spot. People were knocked unconscious while others still were screaming out as their flesh burned from the blasts. Eris herself looked strangely calm as she watched the events unfold around her. Even with everything that was going on her eyes were glued firmly to the two men in front of her as if she was studying something.

As Thanatos stood over Abassi, he thought about continuing the ground assault on the oversize South African male before suddenly felt a hand grabbing onto his ankle and early tried to crush it in his hand had Thanatos not lashed both hands out again to force the bigger man's hand to keep it from squeezing shut on it with a great deal of effort as seen by the strain on his face and the steady glimmer of gold that was beginning to form in his irises.

But instead, Thanatos found himself lifted clean off of his feet and suspended about seven feet or more in the air before he was driven hard back down into the concrete, but not in the way Abassi would've liked. Right before he landed, Thanatos had stuck his hands out and stopped the impact from about several inches out. There was an incredible amount of pressure on his legs at this point, but at least he was given a skeletal structure that would allow him to take this sort of punishment. If he didn't, he would've been in a lot more trouble than he was currently. Straining ever harder now, Thanatos's eyes began to glow even brighter now, right back to the same golden color that Eris seen before while his pupils narrowed into vertical slits then turned his head back to glare at Abassi with an enraged look.

Thanatos then slowly turned his head back from Abassi as he slowly pushed himself up from the close proximity of the concrete until his arms were at full extension. While the massive African was still hanging onto Thanatos by the feet, he would then find him once more upended with an even greater deal of force this time, whipping him over Thanatos's head when he literally rolled forward in a quick burst of speed.

Abassi thought he finally had him as he pulled hard on his ankle and willed Thanatos to fall to the ground hard. Yet once again the man managed to surprise him as he thrust out his hands to keep him from falling down hard enough to cause a lot of pain. No matter how hard Abassi squeezed on his leg he still couldn't get the bones to break under his grip. This man wasn't like any other person he had ever fought before and for the first time in a very long time the African man actually felt a little bit of fear creep into his mind.

That fear only multiplied as he caught sight of the gold in the others eyes as he turned around to glare at him. It was a look that could freeze a man's blood in his veins and would have been better suited on a feral tiger then on a human face. Yet stranger still he felt himself being lifted off the ground as Thanatos extended himself and used his body as a miniature catapult. The force behind it was impossible as Abassi flew through the air before landing again on the concrete as his limp body bounced at least two feet. Somehow pieces of his armor had started to break and were scattered on the gray surface as if leaving some sort of twisted trail of breadcrumbs to their owner.

The pain he had felt before was nothing compared to this as every muscle in his body was screaming out at him. Blood filled his mouth and he could clearly see that his left hand was bent in a way that it shouldn't be. His mind was screaming at him to stay down but his anger was overtaking him and all he wanted to do was drive his fist right into Thanatos' face. Struggling to get up on his feet, trails of blood flowed down to the ground and made a small pool by his leg. "I'll fucking kill you you bastard." Abassi shouted angrily as he charged at the other man with no rhyme or reason in his steps. He no longer had the cocky attitude he had before and was now more primal then human. His fist extended with every intention of separating Thanatos' head from his body.

Soon enough, Thanatos was now standing back up onto his feet with the same golden irised and hateful glare aimed straight at Abassi even as he watched him go flying through the air and crashed hard down onto his back then skidded an extra two feet before he came to a dead stop. He honestly couldn't have cared any less if his armor was beginning to break. If it meant anything, Thanatos was far too deeply entrenched with what was happening to him currently as he stood there with his hands clenched tightly together into rock solid fists. Such hatred was flowing through him now that if someone were to look closely enough, one could now see veins beginning to form on parts of his face. The same would also apply to the exposed areas of his arms where an intensely building bloodflow ripped through each vein, capillary and artery through out his circulation system followed by a massive surge of adrenaline, causing his heart rate to accelerate to about 180 beats per minute and his blood pressure to skyrocket to levels that most normal people would die from a heart attack, stroke or possibly even a brain hemorrhage. Soon enough, Thanatos unhooked the katana's sheath and slowly laid it to the cold and gray surface then tossed his jacket off followed by his shirt, not even bothering with the two crosses that hung on his neck now. Slowly, Thanatos's body structure began to change. His muscular build began to increase in size and diameter to about three times their normal size completely by sheer willpower alone.

This, according to another research study, was in the same field as was his last superhuman skill set but not quite. This ability seemed to virtually increase Thanatos's physical prowess, enabling him to become a much more powerful combatant when on the battlefield. The result would see the subject deal immensely powerful physical damage in terms of hand to hand combat. The problem with it, however, was that it had a somewhat slow startup, requiring the subject to undergo extremely heavy duress before the skill is acquired. Another problem is that in some instances, the subject's speed is reduced by a considerable amount and their accuracy suffered just as much. This was sometimes suited for one on one battles rather than group affairs or also if someone just needed something to go knock a hole in a building with. As far as the test results were concerned, it worked.

Thanatos kept his eyes trained on the massive South African male as he came charging forward with a loaded up fist that was ready to take his head cleanly off. As soon as Abassi struck, a sort of savage howl ripped through the air from Thanatos's lungs and voicebox, sounding just like that of some crazed animal of some sort instead of a human before his hands lashed out towards Abassi's fist again and caught it once more, stopping it dead in its tracks. From there, Thanatos stepped to the side of the large African man while holding onto his wrist before he fired a devastating fist right at the point of his elbow while pulling back at a wicked angle on Abassi's wrist.

The sudden crack that filled the air was truly sickening, to say the least as Thanatos broke Abassi's elbow as well as tore ligaments and tendons in his wrist. Judging from the look of his face alone, it seemed as though he was intending on breaking each and every bone in the South African's body when he aimed that same demonic glare at him.

The place was all but deserted by now as anyone with a will to live had gotten out of there as soon as humanly possible. The flames had engulfed what remained of the gas station and were slowly creeping over the motel and the convenience store as well. By the end of the day this entire place would be little more then piles of ash and burning wood. Yet in the middle of it all the three figures seemed to be completely unaware of what was going on around them. Abassi was too focused on trying to kill Thanatos to even bother with anything else and Eris had her eyes trained on them the whole time. The look on her face was completely calm as she watched the bloodshed that would have made stomachs turn. Her role in the whole thing was as a diligent observer and she took in every detail of what was going on around her. Her eyes never left Thanatos as she watched the changes come over his body as his eyes shifted back to gold and the veins were becoming more prominent on his body. She noted every small detail and locked it away in her mind for further use when the time would come.

Abassi himself was surprised to see what was going on with Thanatos as well. The hatred that was flowing through the golden pupils was palpable as his muscles increased three times their normal size. No, this wasn't something that any normal human should be able to pull off. Abassi had to train every single day under intense conditions to be able to achieve the muscles he had and yet this man in front of him could make them appear from nowhere. This knowledge only fueled his anger as his fist kept moving towards Thanatos with only destruction and hurt on his mind. Yet he faltered slightly as he heard the blood curdling howl that escaped the other man's throat as he caught the fist in mid air. "What kind of devil are you?" Abassi shouted out angrily, his fist felt like he had just tried to punch through solid steel. This was the second time he had managed to stop him in mid fight and still it only looked like the other man was just getting started.

Another howl filled the air though this was one of great pain. Abassi screamed out his lungs as he felt Thanatos place a terrifying hit on his elbow. His whole arm felt like it was on fire as the pain flooded him while his tendons and ligaments tore. The pain was so intense it caused the giant to drop to one knee as he cradled his wounded arm with his other hand. Even with the pain he knew that this arm would be useless now and was probably broken in multiple places. His wrist hurt like hell and he wasn't sure if he would ever even be able to use this arm again.

This was it, this was too much. Not only had the smaller man taunted him but he had also managed to hurt him in a way that no one else ever had before. His body was being broken to pieces and his pride as a warrior was all but shattered. There was no way Abassi was just going to lay down and take this kind of punishment. There was an anger in the man's eyes unlike anything before as he turned his black eyes to meet the now gold ones. No, Thanatos was going to pay for what he did and Abassi was going to send him to the deepest reaches of hell for it. Without warning his pushed himself off the ground with his other hand now ready and aimed for Thanatos heart which he would gladly tear out of the man's chest. If this was the end then so be it, but he wasn't going out like some coward on the ground.

"I'm no devil..." Thanatos answered Abassi's question in a tone of voice sound far less human and leaned more towards that of a wild animal of sorts. "I'm your worst fucking nightmare ever imagined and given breath!" He added as he watched Abassi go to the ground with his other hand grasping at his arm. There would be no doubt in anyone's mind that Thanatos had to have broken the South African man's arm in at least several different places from the elbow on down, possibly rendering that arm useless in the process. Was he going to apologize for it? Absolutely not. Was he going to make this giant of a man pay for everything that he had done at this point? Beyond a shadow of a doubt.

As soon as he saw that other fist coming, Thanatos stopped that one just the same as he did with Abassi's now-useless arm, catching his fist with one hand this time around. From there, Thanatos gave his other wrist a hard twist to the opposite side, nearly ripping his hand off before stepping in and delivering a straight kick to Abassi's face with a devastating amount of force behind it.

As Abassi fell to the ground, Thanatos still held a tight grip on his wrist before he stepped over to the giant's side and dropped onto his back with his arm now tucked in between his knees and thighs. Once down, Thanatos grapevined his legs tightly around Abassi's upper arm while his upper body pulled hard on his forearm, furiously snarling as he applied a great deal of pressure on it and even further, to the point where the sounds of bone splintering could now be heard.

It was then that fear really did grip Abassi's heart. As Thanatos caught his other fist once again the giant could have sworn that he saw his life flash before his eyes. He had been cocky and overconfident and led to believe that Thanatos killing Sai had all just been a fluke. He had rushed into battle without thinking and had followed orders blindly not bothering to question why. For a split second he looked over and made eye contact with Eris and it was then that he knew. He had been set up by her and them. This was all just one big game and he was going to pay the price with his life.

Another cry of pain echoed as Thanatos twisted his wrist and he felt his tendons ripping apart as the appendage threatened to fly off completely from the force with which he tore it. Next was the kick that snapped his neck back and filled his mouth with blood. His face was getting swollen as the blood flowed through it and his body just wanted to give up. The force of the kick had all but snapped his neck and he couldn't even lift himself up off the ground. No, his body had been through too much and it was refusing to even try and get up one more time. As he started going in and out of consciousness he could still sense Thanatos looming over him with a tight grip on the injured wrist.

"Kill me. Do it!" Abassi spat out as blood flowed out of his mouth and he yelled again in pain as he felt Thanatos put more pressure on his arm and heard bones snapping under his skin. "They used me like a pawn and they're using you too. I'll die but you're still their little puppet." The smirk on his face was completely morbid as he looked up at Thanatos with hatred in his eyes. Yes he was going to die but he was going to do it with the knowledge that the other man's fate would be much worse then his own.

As Thanatos continued to hold Abassi's arm back, threatening to break it, he stopped for a minute when he heard something from him that wasn't said to him before. Looking from side to side, Thanatos began to slowly relinquish the hold he had on his arm before he looked to him with the same golden irises in a perplexed manner. "What did you say?" Thanatos asked as he then released his old on Abassi's arm and moved over to him. "Who's 'they'? Who sent you?" He demanded. "Tell me before I do kill you!"

To show that he would follow through with that threat, Thanatos then gripped Abassi's neck and gave it a tight squeeze for a moment. "Tell me again! WHO FUCKING SENT YOU?!" He demanded loudly.

Even though his hand was on his neck Abassi still continued to smirk at the smaller man. "Heh, you'll find out soon enough boy. Don't worry though, I'll save a nice place in hell for you." The man spat out at him in anger. His black eyes shifted over to Eris for a moment and caught sight of a smirk on her own face. Thanatos might kill him but he had already fallen into their trap and it was only a matter of time until he saw just what kind of position he had found himself in.

Already the man could feel the life slipping away from him as blood pooled around his feet and his heart beat slowed down. His body had sustained too much damage to go on much longer and he was going to die whether Thanatos killed him or not.

That look... Something about that look was telling Thanatos something before he looked up to Eris and glared at her viciously even with the blood that was spat onto his face. Instead of killing him on the spot, Thanatos released his hands from Abassi's neck then stood up with that same glare on his face while his muscular build began to settle back into its original state and began to approach her with the same angered glare.

"Liar." Thanatos said in a quiet voice. "You... Dirty... Fucking... LYING... CUNT!!!" He suddenly belted out in increasing volume before he dashed to Eris and grabbed her by the throat. "You mean to tell me you've been working for the same group of people that's been after me from the start?!" He screamed again.

Her eyes widened as she felt his hand around her throat before she could even react. Her own eyes glared at him as she put her own hand on his with a frown on her face. "I never lied to you." She said calmly as she looked at him in the eye though she flinched slightly from the pressure on her throat and the sound of his voice in her ears.

"I already told you I had a history with them but I'm not working for them." She said angrily as her own hand tightened on his. "I want to see them dead but whatever history I have with them has nothing to do with you. Now let me go." Her tone was still calm but there was anger evident in her face as she looked at him. Abassi was lying on the ground now and not moving which probably meant that he was already dead.

"Some history you have. You've been using me as a sort of get-backer for you and your associates, whomever they might be!" Thanatos replied as he retained his grip on Eris's neck. "So how about you stop lying to me and I might reconsider tearing you in half right now?" He asked as his hand tightened around her throat significantly.

"If you don't work for CROSS, then who sent you? CIA? FBI? NSA? Tell me who it is!" Thanatos demanded.

"I haven't been using you for anything. They've been hired out to capture and kill you and I've been trying to protect you." She struggled to say this and his hand tightened around her throat. Eris tried to take a deep breath as her nails dug into his hand enough to break the skin and draw some blood.

"Don't you think if I wanted to hurt you I could have done it last night when you were worn out? And I don't work for any of them or any branch of the government. Do you really think I'd want to expose their dirty little secrets to the world if I did?" Her grip on his hand slackened as she was having more trouble breathing from the hold he had on her.

Thanatos had a hard time believing this. This was indicated when he aimed a glare at her and kept his hand's grip rather tight on her throat even as he watched her try to pry herself out of it. Angry as he was with her, he knew that there was a plan in place that was meant to go down sometime before the day was out. A rough sigh followed by lowering his head with his eyes closed came from him before Thanatos eventually set Eris down on the ground before he went over to his shirt, jacket and katana and began to put them all back on one piece at a time before he was completely dressed. Once done, Thanatos looked back at Eris with the same hateful glare.

"Consider yourself on thin ice." Thanatos warned before he turned away from her with his hands lowered to his sides.

She gasped for breath as he finally let her go and her feet touched the ground. Gingerly she ran her hands over her neck and winced slightly as she felt a bruise forming on the side of her neck. This day had gone from bad to worse and he was obviously not believing what she had said. "Oh go fuck yourself." She muttered angrily as she looked around to the chaos they had caused. Abassi's dead corpse was laying on the cement and the fire was slowly starting to die down after it had pretty much burned down the motel and the gas pumps were gone.

Walking over to the car she climbed in and crossed her arms over her chest before leaning back against the seat. This was going to be one very long car ride and she was more then just a little hesitant to be in an enclosed space with him. She had already seen just how strong he could be and his temper wasn't exactly what she would call calm. Closing her eyes she sighed heavily before a beep from her pocket alerted her to a new text message. Pulling out her phone she read it quickly before putting it back in her pocket. This was going to be one hell of a long day.

Eris wouldn't be alone for long. Soon after, Thanatos would soon get in the car next, the same look of venom ever present within his now obsidian eyes despite he didn't make one attempt to even look at her. Things had indeed gone from bad to worse, at least for him anyway. Just who was it that Eris was working for? For all he knew, she could be working for another country that wanted to procure his skills. It did little to upset him even further, but the one thing that the both of them knew as of right now was that the two of them still had a job to do and it had to be followed to the bitter end, whether it resulted in one or both of them dying in order to complete it. But before that happened, Thanatos would fight until the end, however bitter it would be.

But until that time came, Thanatos just had to get through this day. Just this one day and hopefully he would never have to see her ever again. However, there was a part of him that wanted to believe her in that she had his best interest in mind, but for now he couldn't see it.

Eris turned her head to the side as she heard sirens coming towards them. No doubt one of the truckers would have called the police and fire department to report that two men had caused a large fire in the truck stop. She frowned slightly before reaching for the keys and starting the car. Looking behind her shoulder she put the car in reverse before pulling out of the parking lot and back onto the highway. The smoldering smoke was soon behind them as the sirens stopped echoing and once again a silence filled the car. Right now Eris was wishing she had killed Abassi himself before he had messed everything up. She should have taken a chance and put a bullet in his fat head before Thanatos ever got to him.

The man next to her had reverted back to how he was when they had first met and she could tell he was seething in the seat next to her. "Nero." She said simply as she merged onto the next lane in order to pass the minivan that was going a full 10 miles under the speed limit. "You asked me who I worked for. It's called Nero. When government and corporations are allowed to work without regulation it's the people who suffer. So many things happen behind the public's back without them even knowing. We watch out and make sure that if they overstep their bounds then there is always someone there to get them back in check. The super soldier project should have never happened and the military was messing with things they should have left alone. They've worked so hard to blackout the media so the people remain ignorant that now it's time they were finally exposed for what they did. That's all I want from you. Just to show the world that you do exist."

"Nero?" Thanatos asked as an eyebrow quirked before he glanced to her with a inquisitive expression. "They sound like an underground group of some sort or another, because I've never heard of them." He added with a shake of his head with that same eyebrow raised. "If what you say is true, then perhaps you have my best interest at heart. But there's one thing that's bothering me." He said, his eyes closing in thought. "I'm not exactly sold on it, but if they do expose the super soldier project to the world, do you honestly think that it would solve anything? All it would wind up doing is cause sanctions to be placed on the United States and even bring about another war, something that the people of this country can't afford."

"So what I've got to ask to ask you is this: What is it that they hope to gain from all of this? Can you explain that to me?" He asked as he looked at her.

"It's important to stay as under the radar as we possibly can. The less any government knows about us the better off we are." She explained as she drove by one car after another with an annoyed expression. If there wasn't such tension in the car she would have yelled at the man in front of her to get off the road but that didn't seem like a good idea right now. "What we hope to gain is for the public to finally know just what's going on. Let them make decisions on their own but at least give them all the information that they need to make those decisions. No offense, but having a whole army of people like you would do more damage then good. You alone going off the grid has caused so much chaos and destruction already." Thanatos himself had already killed enough people to be considered a serial murderer and she had already seen how he became when he lost his temper. If you had a whole army like him then what would stop them from following in his footsteps.

"They want to stop this all. To show that there are consequences for people's actions and that you can't just play god with the world. Maybe it will start a war or maybe the public will finally rise up and take power back into their own hands. We can't know for sure but we can at least give them the opportunity." Eris sighed heavily as she finished explaining. Her eyes were always glued to the road and she didn't bother to give Thanatos even a quick glance. The bruises on her neck were still fresh and a part of her really wanted to slam his side of the car into the oncoming semi that was behind them.

A sigh was all Thanatos gave as he shook his head morbidly then placed a hand on his forehead then placed his elbow on the windowsill trying to piece this all together in his head. If this theory was correct, then perhaps it would be best if there was someway for him to just stay in hiding and not be seen from any and all prying eyes together if it was all going to cause a massive panic like this or even bring about the onset of a civil war or even a world one at that. Not that it needed one, anyway.

For the most part, Thanatos's eyes were tightly closed in exasperated thought as he continued to go over all of this information and yet all of it seemed as though it would be better off that he went off in hiding or if he was killed in the first place when Eris lit that warehouse on fire. He should've just embraced it then and there and no one would've ever known he was even there to begin with. It would've been so much more simpler instead of dragging him from his best hiding place than doing some sort of "publicity stunt" on the top of the Sears Tower in Chicago.
