Lucien is Cetra, much like Aerith. However, he is from a subsect. If Aerith's ancestors are the spiritual guidance and the philosophy, Lucien's was the protective and solely militaristic arm of that philosophy. While most Cetra were not warmongers, that did not mean they wouldn't-or couldn't defend themselves. Called a Bellator, he is the result if the planet created something akin to humanity's SOLDIER. He is infused with the lifestream, however because of his physical abilities being enhanced, his ability to hear the planet and be guided. This is theorized to be a way the two races relied on each other.
Because Lucien had been trapped in a spell, his mother had cast 2,000 years ago to see to it that after the Cetra were driven to brink by Jenova, the world would not be without. He emerged from the spell and the world had drastically changed. He first set his sights on destroying Jenova, but in finding out about Infalna and Aerith, he joined ShinRa to learn that the Cetra were all but gone. He watched them both after becoming a member of SOLDIER, because of his alarming physicality.
Well, we could start off with Lucien defending Aerith from the Turks trying to spy on her, as she lives with her mom in Sector 5 or we could start where he joins Cloud and Tifa, Barret to help break out Aerith--which would you like?
Also, I had a few interesting ideas.
For example, would you be comfortable with allowing Aerith to marry Lucien at some point in the groups adventure to stop Sephiroth? Also, what if Lucien helps Aerith develop in her Cetra abilities? Such as casting magic without Materia, or becoming better at listening to the planet? Though he technically can't do these things himself, his mother would have been able to, and he learned how by proxy and he teaches Aerith how to better hone her powers.
