Before boarding the plane, Rosemary double-checked her boarding pass, to make sure everything was still in order. This was her chance to start her new life, and she wasn't about to ruin it by misplacing her pass! As she was going through her purse, she also located her ID and sighed with relief. She was quite young and would always get carded when trying to purchase alcohol. Planes scared her, and she'd need something to help out with it.

"Gate 19 now boarding,"

Rosemary stood up and made her way into the rush of people beginning the queue, allowing others in front of her as they pleased. There was no point in pushing forward; they were all going to get their seats on this flight.

Looking out of the large window of the airport waiting zone, Darmen breathed a sigh of relief as the intercom buzzed,

"Gate 19 now boarding,"

He had been standing by the window for over an hour, watching the drizzling rain patter against the window, mesmerized by the way the droplets ran down the glass and linked together to form an amalgamation. Breaking out of his trance, Darmen reached into his back pocket of his jeans for his boarding pass. People were quickly amassing in front of the boarding station so Darmen decided to go to the back of the line.

At the back of the line, a grey haired middle-aged man was arguing with a soldier in full Battle Dress Uniform. Darmen walked over and started to listen to the heated argument, but as he got closer the middle-aged man pushed the soldier who in turn bumped into a young looking girl- who was not nearly as big as this soldier. She promptly fell to the floor, in which Darmen took the opportunity to help her up.

"Are you alright?"

Rosemary patiently waited her turn in line, zoning out a bit. She noticed a woman in front of her was wearing a sweater which looked really soft and-

All of a sudden she felt a huge push and the world was spinning and she was on the ground. For a few seconds, she lay dazed on the airport ground. As she came back down to Earth, she saw a tall man with his hand extended out to her. Rosemary blinked up at him for a little longer, confused. Finally, she took his hand.

"What happened?" she asked the stranger, her perfectly manicured eyebrows furrowed. Her heart was beating harder than she could ever remember, and she wasn't even on the plane yet... Could she manage the long trip at this rate??

Darmen looked down at the girl on the ground, patiently waiting for her to accept his hand. Her long flowing Orion locks were spread out like a pool of golden blood around her head. She had a confused look on her face as she looked up at his face for a few seconds, and within those few brief moments their eyes locked onto each other. After what seemed like an eternity, she took Darmen's hand and he promptly picked her up.

"Somebody bumped into you, you're lucky you didn't hit your head on anything. Your hands are freezing by the way, did you want my jacket?"

This girl was beautiful, stunningly attractive and it admittedly took Darmen off guard as she stared so deeply into his eyes, as if she could see his pain that he buried deep within him. He could usually hide it well from even his closest friends, but something about this girl made him feel comfortable, and he let his guard down a bit.

"Oh, um, alright!" she said. She hadn't noticed how cold the airport was until he pointed it out. Tearing her gaze from his beautiful blue eyes, she checked again for her things. A slight blush crept into her cheeks as she remembered his warm hand in hers. It had been forever since she had touched a boy.

"My name is Rosemary, by the way," She hoped she hadn't made too much of a fool of herself by being so easily knocked down, and her cheeks reddened even further thinking about this. On the outside, this boy looked intense, but she sensed something more lurking underneath, hidden deep within his eyes.

"Rosemary," Darmen handed her his charcoal jacket taking care to pull out his book from the jacket pocket, "my name is Darmen, a pleasure to meet you."

He offered her his dominant left hand, switching his book to his right hand, and put on a warm smile. She was clearly blushing, but surely his smile wasn't that scary? When she hesitantly took his hand, he felt a little more confident, but was still weary as he didn't want to blow this with such a beauty.

Realizing that it was his turn to show the flight attendant his ticket, Darmen turned around and handed the lady at the desk his boarding pass.

"Enjoy your flight, sir."

Darmen nodded politely to the flight attendant and walked slowly past, waiting up for Rosemary.

"It's nice to meet you too, Darmen! What are you traveling for?" Rosemary asked as she handed her boarding pass to the attendant. "Thank you," she said, smiling at the lady.
Darmen's jacket was too big in just the right way. She felt enveloped in such warmth and comfort, and the scent of him made her shiver slightly. He had a nice smile and seemed like a pretty nice person, especially to wait up on her like that.
As they began to walk down the covered path to the airplane, Rosemary began to wonder if she'd ever be able to see him again.

Rosemary quickly caught up with Darmen, and together they walked toward the plane.

"I'm uh, going to a funeral. He was my best friend."

Darmen was uncomfortable talking about such a sensitive subject and quickly changed the subject.

"So what are you traveling for?"

This was highly unlike him to be this uncomfortable while talking to somebody, and he could feel his palms perspiring. Sooner than he realized he reached his seat on the plane and awkwardly told Rosemary, "Oh, um this is me," pointing to the seat. He felt like an idiot, would he ever even get to see this girl again?

"Oh, I'm so sorry," she said quietly. "I'm going on a sort of vacation. Things aren't great back home and I really need to get away for a while,"

As Darmen reached his seat, Rosemary felt a jolt of panic in her gut. She didn't want to stop talking to him!!

"Oh okay. Maybe we can meet up after the flight?" she asked gingerly, not wanting to seem too pushy. She smiled at him and walked a couple rows past to her seat. She had managed to get an aisle seat, which was good for her because she always needed to pee when she was nervous, and planes made her nervous like nothing else. The person in the middle seat next to her was an elderly lady, who introduced herself as Ruth, who was traveling to see her grandson get married.

After the flight attendants went over the safety precautions, Rosemary zoned out, thinking of the man she had met, wondering what they'd do once they made it to the city. Finally, the plane was in the air, and Rosemary could feel her heart beating out of her chest. To keep her mind off of just how high up she was, she decided to do something quite unlike her. On a paper napkin that came with her bourbon and ginger ale, she wrote her name and number.

She stood up when there was no one blocking the aisle, and walked the few aisles carefully. She tapped Darman on his shoulder and held out the napkin.

A vacation sounded nice to Darmen. It had been awhile since he had genuine fun without the help of alcohol, and now with the death of Alex, he wasn't in the best of places.

"Yeah, for sure. You can keep the jacket for now, I won't be too cold." Darmen returned a smile and felt reassured that he hadn't completely ruined this interaction. Darmen was sitting in the aisle seat, and next to him was an already asleep Chinese man wearing ear plugs and a sleeping mask.

Darmen started reading as the flight attendants went over the safety precautions, and pretty soon they were gliding through the air. To his surprise, Darmen felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned and saw Rosemary, in her hand a napkin. He took the napkin, but before he could say anything she quickly turned and walked back to her seat. Darmen stared down at the napkin and saw Rosemary's neat handwriting. Her phone number... His mind racing, and his heart alongside it, he couldn't help but smile at the prospect of kissing her.

An hour into their flight, Darmen got up to go to the restroom. All that water he drank to keep up with the salty pretzels struck his bladder, and he couldn't hold it in any longer. As he walked through the aisles, he noticed that most people were asleep, probably from the late flight. Reaching the door to the bathroom, he saw that it was locked and waited patiently for whoever was in there to finish their business.

Around an hour after the start of the flight, Rosemary went to the restroom. She had a small bladder, after all. When she was done, she slowly opened the door as to not hit anyone who may be waiting outside. To her surprise, she saw Darmen waiting there.

"Oh, hello, it's nice to see you!" she said, smiling widely at him. "How has the flight been for you so far?"

It was a really nice surprise to see him. She hadn't expected to see him again so soon. Her wide eyes took in everything of him. His gorgeous eyes, his strong arms, his short hair. She hoped he liked her in the same way she liked him.
