The year is 2102 for the last 70 years demons have controlled the world. During World War Three the gates of hell were opened and the demons cam rushing to earth claiming the lands for themselves and with them they brought a disease that ravished the human population reducing it to nearly a third. The humans left were rounded up and given land to live and grow upon. Once the humans were divided the demons wanted no trouble from them and placed governors over areas of the lands in which the humans lived. Some humans disagreeded with this and opposed the demons in ever possible way. For a very short time the demons tolerated the push back but after a while they exterminated anyone who disagreed with them. The humans followed their rules and decided to make the best out of the life they now had. The demons promised to provide everything they would ever need. There are whispered spreading through the human community of a uprising against the demons, but other mysterious things have been happening as well, crops and stores of food are being burned to the ground, livestock has gone missing, and even some doctors have vanished. With a new illness starting to spread with the other strange things happening panic is starting to rise as well. So it is decided by the human government to send their ambassador to the capital to ask for what they need.

Elise Trembley was one of the ambassadors for the south region of the human population. The population had been divided into five regions each region had a demon Governor. Dressed in tight fitting black jeans, tall boots that covered her knees, a black corset with white ribbon lace and a long black over coat to keep the sun off off her. She drove a small two seater car. Speeding down the road she came to a stop at the gates of the governor's mansion. She waited patiently for the gates to open for her. Once they did she drove up the drive way to the main door of the mansion where she was greeted by some servants. "I have business with the governor." She informed the servants as she reached over to the passenger seat and grabbed her bag which held important documents. Every concern that her people were worried about, all their hopes that things would be fixed rested with her. The servant nodded his head.
"Follow me please. We'll be sure to get the rest of your bags from your car and bring them to a room for you." He stated showing the young woman to the study.

((Elise

There were two tall humanoid Demons behind a desk in the center of the room. One sitting, the other standing just off the first's right shoulder. This human like form was the one preferred by the Governors when dealing with their human citizenry, although it was usually still just as disconcerting as any form they could take at will. Both demons had piercing blue eyes, although their pupils were akin to felines. Their skin a dark greenish black held a slight shimmer, giving it the appearance of fish or reptilian scales. Their clothing was just as odd as their appearance. High collared robes of what appeared to be black satin covered the majority of their exposed flesh, leaving only their heads and hands exposed.

The larger of these two demons, the one sitting behind the desk observed Elise over long, boney, steepled fingers. He was of course Governor Ocig Dabnis, the younger demon behind him Elise didn't know. "Ambassador Trembley, how good of you to drop by." His voice and a strange metallic quality to it, making it seemingly ring around the chamber.

Elise bowed her head to the Governor. She didn't enjoy these visits. There was something so terrifying about the demons to her. Her stomach immediately twisted into a knot just seeing the governors apperance for the day. Every time she came to see him his apperance was just a little different than last time. THeir imitation of humans was disturbing and she preferred they just show their natural selves than choose a form they believed would help her feel more comfortable. Vanessa moved forward taking a seat in the empty chair that was opposite of him.

"Thank you for having me." She smiled "You look well today." She added setting her bag to her left and opened it. She pulled out a thick accordion file that was organized by concern and filled with evidence. "If it's alright with you I'd like to get straight to business." She smiled softly the file sitting in her lap as she awaited his answer.

Ocig nodded and then casually motioned to the demon behind him, "You do not mind my son's presence at this meeting I trust?" Although it was phrased as a question, his tone implied it didn't matter if she did, the other demon would remain regardless.

Elise looked to the demon who stood behind Ocig. His son.
"Oh, no. I...I don't mind one bit." She nodded waving hello to him. Elise looked down to her file and opened it pulling out a couple of fliers. "I'd like to start with the people who have gone missing recently." She said spreading the papers across his desk. "They're are doctors, nurses. No one knows where they've gone not even their own families and we need help locating them. A number of people have fallen ill recently and we don't know what it is and with our doctors missing were worried it will spread at an uncontrollable rate." She said leaning forward.

The younger demon peered at the papers over his father's shoulder with far more interest then Ocig did. Ocig gave each page a cursary glance before moving on. "This matter will be given the attention it warrents. You will have an answer when we have concluded our investigation." Ocig's tone was mild, it gave nothing away as to whether he would actually give the matter any real consideration. His son's eyes snapped to his father for a brief moment when the older demon spoke before settling once more on the pages on the desk. It was almost as though the younger demon was trying to memorize the images while he could.

"Investigation? Sir we need doctors until ours are found one or two would do. But we need them now There are people who are sick." She tried to explain the urgency and how important this matter was. She looked up at his son and noticed how he was more concerned about the missing medical personnel than the governor seemed to be. Elise nodded but left the papers on his desk. There have been other incidents going on." She added pulling out some pictures. They showed burnt down crops, empty store houses and barn stalls. "Something or someone has been stealing our food store, burning crops and stealing our livestock. Word has traveled to us from outer areas of the region that this is happening all over the region." She said "If something isn't done there won't be enough food to last us tto next harvest season."

It was something one had to look closely to notice, but the younger Demon's concern was growing. His father's expression never changed. "Yes, these reports have reached our ears as well. The matter is being investigated presently. There is a contingency plan in place should the matter take longer then anticipated to address and resolve. Have no worry about your stores of food diminishing. There will be plenty to sustain the population in the coming years."

Once more the younger demon studied the images as best he could from where he stood without drawing his father's attention.

"Okay, what has your investigation found? My people are starting to worry and panic. Neighbor accusing neighbor of these things knowing well that they did not do such things." She said looking up to Ocig once again. She observed his son. It seemed he was more interested in what Elise had to say than Ocig himself.
"Is there anything else you would like to make me aware of,sir?"

"The investigation has not yet concluded. When it has, we will let you know of our findings." Ocig bowed his head. As far as he was concerned these topics were now closed. "Do you have any further concerns you wish for me to hear at this date?"

Elise shook her head "No sir. That's all I have to talk to you about." She said with a nod. "Thank you sir." She said closing the file up and placed it into her bag. Again this was another unsuccessful meeting with the Governor. She was empty handed once again and her people would have even more questions than she had answers to.

"Excellent, we will get answers to you as soon as we are able." Ocig bowed his head to her and motioned towards the door of his study. The young demon behind him gave the slightest shake of his head, as though irritated by something his father had said, but knew better then to speak with Elise still in their midst.

Elise nodded standing and gather her items leaving his study. One of the servants closed the study door behind her and escorted Elise to the bedroom she would be staying in for the evening.

Ocig waited until the girl was far enough down the hall before he spoke but in the demons' own tongue. "Speak your mind Mazir."

"None of you have any idea what's going on do you?" Mazir asked crossing his arms.

"We know where the doctors are."

"Then why didn't you tell her? If their people are getting sick, shouldn't they have access to their doctors?"

Ocig turned and watched his son for a few moments. "They would do the humans very little good in their current state. Most of the ones from the pages she provided were found in a canatonic state, the others were dead."

"I assume then you don't know why?"

"The investigation is on going."

"Who's investigating?" Ocig didn't answer him. "I see. Father I have a request."

"Why do you care so much Mazir? Things like this happen from time to time, it serves to keep their numbers low."

"They aren't low enough as is? Father, what good does it serve if there are no humans so oversee?"

Ocig sighed, "Fine, you may look into this situation if it pleases you. Leave in the morning with the ambassador. I expect you to check in regularly Mazir."

"May I use any method I see fit?"

"I suppose. Perhaps you will gather a better understanding of why we are here through this investigation."

"Thank you father." Mazir bowed his head and left the study. He had a servant run the message that he would be accompanying the ambassador in the morning before heading off to his own chambers.

Elise was informed that Governor Ocig's son would be coming back with her to her home. She didn't fully understand why he would want to come but didn't protest to the idea. Maybe if he saw just how bad things were becoming he could convince his father to actually do something to help.

The following morning Elise got up early and ate a very light breakfast of a hard boiled egg and some toast with a few berries. Her things had already been loaded into her car and now she was awaiting for Ocig's son.

Among her own bags there were several she didn't recognize in the trunk as well. And after a few more minutes she could see a young man, he appeared to be in his late twenties, but it was hard to tell with the sunglasses he wore, walking towards her with a duffle bag in each hand. He looked to be some kind of military, bark blue camouflage pants and black combat boots. A black tank top displayed muscular arms with a deep golden tan. He was taller then most of the men she knew from what she could see, but there was something about him that bothered her. She found out what when he finally reached the car and held out his hand.

"Ambassador Trembley, my name is Mazir, but you may call me Max."

Elise looked up to the man as he extended his hand to her. "Oh,hello." She said with a smile and shook his hand. "Please feel free to call me Elise." She smiled "Your Governor Ocig's son, right?" She asked moving to the driver's seat and sat down starting the car.

He loaded the last two bags into the trunk and then got into the passenger seat. "Ocig is my father, yes. Were you expecting me to be in the same form I wore in his study? I thought this form would be less conspicuous given what I am hoping to accomplish. Father has tasked me with investigating your concerns. Your request has made it obvious to him fresh eyes looking into these problems would be in everyone's best interests." He said making himself comfortable.

Elise looked him over as he sat down in the passenger seat and pulled the seatbelt across his lap. "I..uhh no." She said the words came out more as questions and confusion. To Elise he was very attractive in that form. "I didn't expect anyone to be joining. If I can be honest I didn't think the Governor really felt my concerns were important." She said softly starting the car up and drove off. "I am glad he took this very seriously though. Everyone will be glad to know that we aren't being ignored." She smiled at him and placed her sunglasses on as they headed down the dusty dirt roads. The drive back to her home-town was about 5 hours. She filled the silence between them with music and talking a bit about what he could expect to see when they got back.

"If it's all the same to you I would rather you didn't tell anyone what I am. We can avoid any unnecessary unpleasantness from anyone not as ... enthusiastic about the presence of a Demon. It's been my experience that very few humans welcome the sight of my kind. Some seem to become more comfortable after I explain I was formally with the Gate Guardians, however I'd rather just avoid the situation altogether." Max wore his sunglasses for two reasons, but the sun was actually the lessor of the two. Although his race were shapeshifters, they couldn't alter the shape of their irises, meaning no matter how much he looked like a man, one look at his eyes and you could tell he wasn't human. It was the few rare humans who helped guard the permanent Gate Max had been assigned to that had suggested the sunglasses.

Glancing over to him she looked him over. The way they were able to change their bodies in an instant was truly fascinating. She nodded her head firmly. "Alright I understand why you would rather keep that a guarded secrect." She smiled at him.

When they arrived at her town it was late in the afternoon and soon it would be sunset and there would be a town hall meeting. Elise of course was expected to be there and inform everyone of what happened at her meeting with the Governor. Max would be with her and becuase of how he looked at the time it would be easy to pass him off as one of the Govenors investigators. She would explain his sunglasses an extreme light sensitivity. Many humans had propblems with their eyes so it would be a lie that would easily accept. Elise pulled into the covered parking spot that was attached to her 1 bedroom home. She got her things from the trunk and headed inside. Though it looked small on the outside the 500 square feet felt incredibly spacious with its high vaulted ceilings and many windows.
"Come on I'll show you to where you'll be staying she said with a smile. She showed him to her study. There was a wall that hid a bed and she pulled it down for him showing him how it worked. "You'll sleep here and my bedroom is just down the hall. I need to get my things ready for the town hall meeting so if you would like to shower or change your clothes feel free to use the bathroom it's right through there." She pointed to another door in the room and it lead to the only bathroom in the home. Leaving him to get settled she went to her room and unpacked her suitcase and sorted through what she needed for the meeting.

Max had only brought one of the six duffle bags he had packed into the trunk of her car into her home. The others would be fine where they were for now. He would have preferred to get right to investigating what happened to the "missing" Doctors, as well as what was happening to the fields these humans used for food production, but one night wouldn't make or break the investigation. He thanked her for her hospitality before she left him to his thoughts.

He would have to be careful about just how he went about investigating these issues. Although they were currently two separate problems, he feared that they may have the same cause. Although Human technology had been quite advanced before the war, he didn't think they had any device or weapon that could render a specific target catatonic the way his father's files had described. It was as though the men and women had been petrified. This would imply something from the other side of the gates. Most humans seemed unaware that his race wasn't the only one that lived in Paea, or Hell as the humans called it. They didn't quite understand the purpose or function of the Governors. It was difficult to explain that they were here less to govern the remaining human populations and more to make sure the humans didn't invite anything else to cross over through the gates. That's how they got into this mess in the first place.

The bigger problem, as far as Max was concerned, was the burning of crops. This didn't have an obvious motive leaning towards either side. It could have been humans setting each other's crops a light, or it could be the same thing or things neutralizing their medical professionals. It wouldn't do well to implicate or speculate on a potential culprit until he had more evidence. This town meeting might be the best place to gather some more Intel after all.

While he waited for Elise to finish getting ready for the meeting he wondered just how concerned for her people she was. Was she the type to demand she be allowed to investigate along beside him, or would she be content to allow him to work alone? If he's initial suspicions were correct, then this investigation could get very dangerous very fast. He wouldn't blame her for choosing to stay home where she was safe while he looked into things. In fact he'd probably prefer it. Somehow he didn't think he'd get so lucky. They way she had spoken to his father told him she wasn't easily intimidated, which was the main purpose of the form most of his kind chose to take when dealing with humans. Unnerve them just enough to keep them in line. The Demons who were members of the Gate Guardians tended to prefer the more realistic human form. The human members needed to be able to trust you, and a less unnerving form helped them do that. He was pulled away from Guardian duty by his father less then a month ago, although Ocig hadn't come out and said it, Max was pretty sure the much older demon was thinking of passing his role of Governor down to his only child. Max would much rather guard the gate, less protocol and etiquette was expected to be observed by those who guard the bridges between worlds.

When she was finished with sorting her papers Elise was still left with just enough time to take a quick shower. So she did. The hot water was a relief to her tired and aching muscles and it helped calm her mind reviewing what she would say to the people and answered potential questions they would have for her. Though her shower was short it was relaxing enough for her. She stepped out toweled off and dressed in a simple black and white skirt with a plain white t-shirt and some black converse low-top sneakers. She brushed her hair into a ponytail and grabbed the file and left her room. She knocked on the door to the study before letting herself in.
"Max. If you're ready I think we should get going so we won't be late to the meeting. Once she confirmed he was ready they headed back to her car and drove towards town. The down town was played out as a square and in the center was the hall. It was a tall and beautiful building. She parked her car and got out. As they began to head to the main door of the building Elise turned back around realizing she forgot her file in the back seat of the car.
"You go on ahead. I'll be just a few minutes behind you." She assured Max and hurried back to the car.

Max nodded to her and kept walking towards the building. It was a refreshing change from the buildings he was used to seeing. Most of the buildings near the gates were crumbling ruins, casualties of a war long since ended. His father's mansion being the obvious exception. It was difficult to imagine what those buildings had once looked like, the humans he served with on the gates hadn't been alive during the war, and the other Demons didn't care enough to remember. They had more pressing issues plaguing their minds, or at least that's what he had always been told.

When he reached the main doors, he stood and waited for Elise to join him before entering the building.

Hurrying back to the building with files in hand Elise ran into one of the town leaders. His name was Willam and really he was a horrible leader, had it not been for the others like Elise nothing would have been done about a lot of things wrong with the town.
"So what did they say? Will something be done?" Willam asked as they walked to the main entrance where Max was awaiting her. With a heavy sigh Elise turned to Willam who was looking past her to Max. It was late so the sun had set and it was odd to see someone with such dark glasses on.
"Go inside. The meeting is where everyone will get the answers they're looking for and more." She assured him patting his shoulder and waited for him to walk ahead. He was hesitant but nodded and headed in waving to her and throwing one more glance in Max's direction. Elise rolled her eyes and walked up the steps of the building to Max.
"Shall we go?" She asked
