History:
Born humbly in the generously named city of Dinander, travel was a requirement for Killian in his quest to seek knowledge and wealth. Despite being within the borders of Nemedia, and just north of the great city of Belverus, Dinander was surrounded by the most unpleasant terrain, the Verakiel Marshes to the east, the unfordable Urlaub River, and the former battleground mainly traversed by desperate looters. At a young age, Killian would charge small amounts to escort merchants, missionaries, and scholars to and from Dinander. His knowledge of the area, sharp senses, and willingness to confront threats all made him a popular guide. Over time, he started charging scholars and missionaries less than he did the merchants if they would agree to teach them something of their specialty. In this way he learned much about religion, arcana, and healing.

Over time, he built a reputation as both a reliable man and avid student, and this knowledge led to the noble sponsorship necessary to secure a grant for further education in exchange for courier work. Now, older and armed with a bevy of understood languages, a more thorough understanding of geography, and basic cartography, Killian set out to explore.

Merchants and diplomats may live nicer lives, but without explorers to seek out the routes to those other civilizations, their work would be non-existent. Killian became that very explorer, setting out frequently from Nemedia to not only discover new societies, but better (faster or safer, rarely both) routes to get to them. In addition, he performed duties as a messenger, his knowledge of routes and ability to withstand harsh environments making him a reliable courier. While it is expected that one such as he would learn much of geography in such work, his skill with languages and keen mind led to his learning something much more significant. Killian is secretly a sorcerer, a secret that he’s been able to keep as even those who helped teach him did not know he was able to listen, or to learn, so easily.
