I just tried something I thought would work, re-enabled it, and within seconds MySQL was starting to choke.

The way the MyBB integration works is unfortunately rather broken, and I will either have to spend time looking into it specifically or things can wait until we've moved over to Elkarte. : /
 
If it's not too much of a bother to ask, I'm curious; is there any clue as to what changed that caused the shoutbox to suddenly break down and lag the whole site? Computers and programs can be glitchy, but if something is working just fine without issue for so long, then suddenly and abruptly goes haywire, it's usually gotta be for a reason...
 
Sure, things reached a point where the time to fulfill requests for shoutbox data became longer than the time between individual requests. It was serving 2-3 million of these requests a day and eventually that was too much for the size of it.

Only thing to do at this point is to get Elkarte into a suitable state and to get us onto our own server.
