The tardy bell rang and in came the last of the stragglers, taking their seats before the teacher could come in and notice they were late. Of course, Sophie Holt had been the first one to make it to class, as she had no reason to lurk in the hallways like most others. Reason being, Sophie didn't really have a lot of friends… but she liked it that way! Or.. well, at least usually she did. So, as the teacher finally made his way into the classroom, which was buzzing with activity due to this being the class right after lunch period, Sophie sat quietly in her seat in the last row while he tried to calm the rest of the class.

“Settle down, folks!” The tall man called out, his voice deep and booming. And yet, his tone wasn't harsh or angry. He was simply a large man, who looked a bit intimidating, but his students all knew him to be a big softy. His name was Mr. Grey.

Reluctantly, the students started to calm down and settle into their chairs, but by then Sophie had already averted her gaze out the window as per the usual for her. With a small internal sigh, she leaned against the wall, head nuzzled against the windowpane as she stared out at the world in admiration. Fall was here, and finally, it was showing. The trees were orange and yellow, fallen leaves scattering the ground… Sophie wanted to run out and roll around in them, or childishly drag her feet through them just to hear them crunch beneath her feet!

She simply loved fall. The light chill in the air, the cloudy skies, the color of the trees… it was all so lovely to her!

Miss Holt?” Mr. Grey called out again, snapping the girl from her daydreams with a small gasp as she sat upright in her chair and looked to the man who was giving her a rather exasperated smile. As if to say 'What am I going to do with you?'. “Y-yes??” She stammered out, hazel green eyes wide as a humiliated blush washed over her. She could feel the eyes of the other students burning into her as they glanced back at her, amusement written all over their faces as they did so.

“I'm calling role.” Mr. Grey said simply, waving his roll sheet a bit in her direction to better accentuate his words. She blushed a little harder then, embarrassed that he must have called her name a dozen times before catching her attention. “S.. sorry. I'm here..” The girl mumbled, sinking into her sheet as Mr. Grey finally moved on. She sighed once that happened, relieved that people were no longer looking at her as she melted against her desk.

Sophie considered herself to be a painfully average girl. Her chestnut brown hair was cut into a simple bob which ended halfway down her slender neck, her bangs settled just over her brown/green eyes. Her face was pretty normal, in her pinion. Blemish free, but lacking any interesting features. Her body was just as average. Average height, average weight, average breast size even. And, as if she wasn't boring enough, she wore the typical school uniform. A navy blue skirt, a white tucked in collared shirt, and over that, a tan blazer. Most girls liked to add little accessories to their uniform to make it unique, but not Sophie.

She was a conflict upon herself. On one hand, she wanted to be bolder and stand out more to make friends. On the other hand, she was so afraid of rejection that she wanted to remain the same forever. It was safer to be alone and not have any attachments… but it was also lonely.

“Alright, guys and gals! This week, we're starting something new. We're going to start working on a group project! And no, you can't choose your own partners. I have already paired you each up with who I think is a suitable partner.” Mr. Gray called out, bracing himself for the wave of groans that hit him. After all, who liked group projects? Especially if you couldn't choose your partner?

Sophie could feel her heart sink into the pit of her stomach when he said the words 'group project'. Legitimately, she felt ill, her skin becoming pale as she stared down at her desk in dread. No one ever wanted to be paired with her, and plus, this meant they would have to present their work in front of the whole class. She wasn't ready for that. She bit at the inside of her cheek and clutched her stomach, listening as Mr. Grey called out the teams in pairs, all the while doing her best to keep from having a full-fledged panic attack.

Which poor soul was going to be stuck with her…?

Ricky "Razzle Dazzle" Clemmens sat in Mr. Grey's class and listened while the big man read through roll call. "RICK CLEMMENS?" Mr. Grey called out.

"They call me 'Razz' sir" Ricky said with a sarcastic smile, and several of the other jocks in class called out in unison, "RAZZLE DAZZLE!"

"Alright enough shenanigans, a simple 'here' will suffice." Mr. Grey shot back, and that was the extent of the scolding. Unlike other students, Ricky was an untouchable. He was in the elite class of smart, athletically gifted, ivy-league college-bound modern aristocrats that were above reproach.

Ricky was the Quarterback of the state champion Tiger's football team, and looked the part. He stood at 6' 3" and weighed around 220 lbs. He had a muscular build and a square jaw with ice blue eyes and good cheek bones. He kept his blonde hair cropped close and style with product and it rare to ever see him without his black and gold letterman jacket, today included. He was sitting next to another status symbol, his current girlfriend and lead cheerleader, Gwen Windsor. She was easily the hottest girl in school and made sure every other girl knew that fact. One might call her a bitch, but not to her gorgeous face. 5' 6" with an hourglass body, C cup perfect perk tits and an ass that a black girl would be jealous, Dark red hair, and green eyes that sparkled like emeralds in the noon day sun.

When Mr. Grey called out Sophie's name the first three times, no one took notice, but on the forth and her snapping out of her trance like state, Gwen turned around and got her jab in. "EARTH TO SLOW SOPHIE....ARE YOU READING US TARD?" But an elbow from Ricky turned Gwen back around.

"Ouch what the hell?" Gwen shot Ricky a dirty look.

"Don't be mean." He said quietly, not wanting his other jock buddies to hear him defending an outcast.

When Mr. Grey announced the partner style assignment, everyone groaned. It was most likely Gwen's rude comment that started this whole story. Mr. Grey didn't like bullies and instead of pairing Gwen with Ricky, like everyone was expecting, he threw out the bombshell that surprised everyone.

"Ricky and Sophie." He called out as he read down his list.

"What the hell man?" Gwen called out angrily.

"Gwen, you and Mr. Donaldson." Mr. Grey answered, inferring that Gwen was to be partnered with the Tiger's running back and Rick's best friend. "You can all move seats and partner up with your new partners." Mr. Grey ended.

Ricky leaned in and gave Gwen's scrinched up face a brief kiss before grabbing his textbooks and walking to the back of the class and sitting down next to Sophie. "Hey...." He said.
