Summer, 1943

The mid day sun bore down on the troops as the headed into the now captured labor camp on the outskirts of eastern Poland. A lone soldier removed his helmet to wipe his sweat soaked brow and run a hand through his short, sand colored hair. Private first class Evan Mitchelle fell back with his squad as they continued through the camp. Bodies were scattered everywhere, ranging from German to American troops who fell during the initial operation that took the camp for the allied forces. As they got deeper into the camp the found what was left of the many unfortunate souls who were taken here against their will to meet certain death. Evan looked over at the ever growing pile of bodies, many looked to have been starved to the point of being nothing but skin and bones. He had to fight the nausea of the sight of the corpses, and smell of death and rotting flesh all around him.

They pushed further into the camp, hoping to find someone alive. But that was increasingly unlikely the further they go. Evan and four other soldiers headed into what looked like a basement dungeon, complete with a row of cells. Some where empty, some held bodies. Evan noted the deceased her were all women. "This must be where the kept the women they used for...." one male soldier said then shook his head in disgust, unable to finish the sentence. Evan nodded. He had heard of the Nazi soldiers using the captured women as their personal sex slaves. He now had a different feeling of nausea from before. They were just about to give up but decided to check the final cell. Evan looked into the bars to see what he thought was to be yet another corpse. The woman was nude, filthy and looked to have been starved just like the rest. He said a prayer for her just as he did the other and he was about to turn back when he noticed the woman's chest moving ever so slightly.

Evan motioned quickly to one of her squad mates who carried a pair of bolt cutters to get the lock and heavy chain off of the cell door. When it was removed he rushed to the woman and knelt down, checking for a pulse. It was faint but it was there. Another one of her allies handed her a blanket and he wrapped the woman in it and lifted her up. His heart broke at how light the woman was to carry. He said another prayer, this one in hopes to get the woman medical attention as soon as possible. As they headed out they can hear shouting, then the sound of planes quickly approaching.

"AIR RAID INCOMING!!! FALL OUT!!!" an officer shouted and Evan rushed with his allies. He fell behind due to him carrying the woman so he shouted at the truck to go as he jumped into a near by jeep and raced off behind them just as the explosions began. In the chaos he had lost track of his squads transport but he was an excellent navigator so he can get back to base on her own. About 45 minutes later the vehicle suddenly jerked and Evan was able to keep it under control and ease it to a stop before hopping out and checking the damage. The wheel was flattened but also, upon further inspection the axle was bent as well. The car was useless now.

"Shit" Evan muttered then as she scanned his surroundings she spotted a cabin in the distance. He went to the back and scooped up the woman and carried her to the house. He knocked first and when there was no answer he got the door open while still holding onto the frail woman. The cabin looked fully stocked with food and supplies. Evan could determine that the owners either fled from the Nazis, or this is a safe house for stranded soldiers. Either way he was grateful and after getting the woman onto the lone bed he went to grab any first aid items after tending to any wounds he might have had Evan left the woman's side prepare a meal and grab some water for his companion.
