Step It Up (Wolvenrogue and I)

"Excuse me?" She slammed the door behind her. "I was looking out for you! As a mother I couldn't stand by and see you get hurt day by day when she didn't return your affections. So yes I told her if she didn't care about you then she should step down and allow you to find the love of your life who can make you happy." She told him the reason why she confronted Lillian.

"If you hate me for looking out for you then so be it. Hate me all you want you ungrateful son of mine." She waved him off as she turned walking away from his room as she wasn't going to be part of the Ceremony if he was going be like this for looking after him.

He opened the door and called out to her. "Mother, I love you, but this is her day, and no one, not even you will be allowed to take it away from her. In my life she comes first, you are welcome if you want to be there, but you are second! Dad made a mistake when it wasn't that way in our house, but it was a mistake! I won't repeat it!" when she kept walking he shed a tear, but pushed it away. This just wasn't her day!

She stopped as she turned to him. "SHE DOESN'T WANT THIS FANCY WEDDING!" She screammed at him from the distance turn turned away to disappear.

It was true Lillian didn't want this fancy wedding as she sat there with her back to the door in her undergarments. She had ignored and kept everyone out of the room but even her own nieces were locked out. The five girls sat outside the room trying to get her to open up the door.

"Please...We need to help you to get ready for your wedding....PLEASE!"

At her words, Eli went out and to the room where Lilly was waiting. Seeing the girls. he hugged them, and then breaking all tradition he easily shouldered the door open. " My love!" Is this not what you want?! It will insure you are respected by everyone. But I promise! nothing you do not want is going to happen. Please just be sure you get what you want and deserve! This is for you and for no one else!" He strode into the room n=and held her, half naked , in his arms.

"I said-!" She got up to throw something else at the door to see Eli there. "You never asked what I wanted as a wedding. A simple signing of documents then a large dinner would have been fine." She said as she turned to move from him but he gathered her up in his arms. Within his arms she began to cry with her thumping her fists into his chest. "This is to much! TO MUCH!" Hanging her head as he claimed this was for her she looked up at him. "Oh?! Are you sure its for me and not for you? If you cared why didn't you ask what I thought about having such a grand wedding? Would you have considered something more simplier and elegant rather than.....What they think is acceptable?!" Pushing him away from her as she felt weak and sick to her stomach though very emotional.

"Lilly please don't misunderstand! I didn't ask for all this! I asked to be married in front of the king and queen. I wanted you recognized just as I am as a duchess in your own right. I didn't know all this came with it! Please believe me!" Put on your dressing gown. I will ask to see the queen and we will get this done privately if that is what you really want." he hugged her and waited for her answer, not wanting to make the same mistake again.

Trembling in his arms as she closed her eyes as this was all to much for her. Listening to him as she grabbed her old gown and slipped it on then looked to him. "Lets go talk to them right now! This....This large wedding is to much and I can't handle it." Grabbing his hand with her walking out with him behind her. Dragging him behind her as she shoved the heavy doors open. "Your highnesses! nI don't want this wedding!"

"What?!" The pair looked at her as if she's gone crazy.

"Please forgive me but this large wedding you're planning...Its not what I want. I had assumed Eli wanted this large wedding and wasn't listening to me." She stepped away from him as if she were to be punished then he wouldn't get punished as well. "I appreciate you wanting to make this happen for us but can't we meet in the middle? I wouldn't have minded signing the documents and a large feast then thats it." Lillian looked to Eli afraid she disappointed him but the Queen sent some of the people away.

"We...I'm sorry. I guess since I don't have a daughter I got excited and went bit crazy." she said as her belly was more pronouced. "We can meet in the middle and the flowers will be in full bloom shortly. So a ceremony in the garden? Large feast in the end? It would give you an few extra days to recover. You look so ill." The older woman cupped Lillian's cheek as she did look sick.

"I'd like that very much. I had dreamed of a colorful wedding but yet simple." The tense and the overwhelming feeling seemed to have disappeared.

"So be it! A garden wedding it is!" The Queen clapped her hands to seal the order and watched Lillian walking away with Eli. The Queen was right she didn't feel good at all.

Eli took her back to the chamber where she had been by herself previously. "I am staying here" he said. "with you." It isn't about anyone but you. Please don't let any one force anything upon you. Are you alright?. The queen thought you were sick. Is it true? How could she know? " All Eli wanted at that moment was to make Lilly happy. He put her in bed under the covers and climbed in beside her to keep her warm and comfortable.

Sitting back on the bed as she felt more at peace but with Eli going on about her being ill; she gave him a soft giggle.

"I must have been a brat but I wasn't joking. I nor we needed such a large fancy wedding. Besides she's a mother she can sense things that aren't right." She said as he forced her back in bed. "Besides I may be carrying your child and may not know of it." Laughing softly knowing that may not be possible since they just started to have sex yesterday.

Eli was just a simple man. He only knew one thing, he loved Lilly, and what ever all this came to, he wanted her happy. " Lilly, I'm sorry if I messed this all up. I don't know what to do, and I honestly will be happy no matter what, as long as when we are done you are mine and no one else's. I love you and to me that is all that matters.

He hugged her warmly holding her tight. I wasn't long before he was asleep. They were waken by a knock on the door and was glad to find her still cuddled up at her side. It was the queens maids wanting to dress the bride. "Do you want the maids to dress you dear? or would you want me to do it?"

Lillian opened her eyes as the sleep did her some good but seeing the Queen's helpers there then his question. "Don't you think its bad luck to see the bride in her gown before the wedding?" Laughing as she pushed him out of her room while the other maidens took Eli to get him dressed.

During the day Lillian still felt like her stomach was upset. With a simple white dress and a viel and the Duchess's jewels upon her she came down to the garden where Eli was waiting with the royal family. Even the twin Princes took Lillian's hands to guide her down the aisle. To her she felt touched by this and she noticed one of her younger nieces seemed to have be friended the boys.

Standing there with Eli as the priest did his job and they signed their names under the Noblemen and Ladies. The King had pulled Eli aside and shown him a brightly colored chestnut stallion with a gray mare. "Both yours for the taking to keep as a gift. Though you're more than welcomed to use my horses to breed." Shaking his hand only to see Lillian dashing off to somewhere private. The Queen had followed only to hold her hair back and rubbed her back. The Queen whispered to Lillian who turned red.

"He's an honorable man." She whispered to Lillian who sipped some cold water.

"The night he proposed we..." The Queen laughed at Lillian's confession but dabbed a wet cloth over Lillian's face.

Eli wated while Lilly and the queen had there time in private before he helped lilly atop the fine mare for the traditional procession on horseback. He mounted the stallion and took her hand as they circled the garden for all to see before coming to the table. Eli lifted his bride from the saddle and seated her at the table, hopping she would not be to ill to enjoy the dinner. They kissed, and were toasted and the banguet was on, He escorted her onto the floor for their dance,

The night went on as she felt weak as she had barely eaten anything. Once the ceremony was done they departed from the castle with a few trunks in the new carriage. Getting home late Lillian looked to Eli.

"I'm going to bed early. Be a dear and check on the horses? They've been awfully quiet." She looked at him as she noticed she hadn't seen his mother around but on her way up she noticed his mother was in her room sewing. Smiling softly Lillian went to their room where she got undressed only to run her hands over her lower stomach. "Could I be with child already?" She whispered softly to herself.

Eli went to the barn, and unhitched the new team, and opened the door to the barn to place them in a stall. As was his habbit, he looked down the row of stalls to see if the rest of the horses were peaceful. There were no other horses in the barn! He put up the team, before carefully checking the barn and the pasture. He found a long thread of expensive fabric hanging on Tibus' stall gate. He recognised the material. It belonged to the duchess. The conclusion was obvious, she had taken the horses. Knowing that she had them, he made some preparations before confronting her.

Eli went to the house and found Lilly sound asleep, and his mother still sewing. The girls were sound asleep as well. He went and spoke with his mother. "Lilly is ill and someone has stolen our horses. I believe I know where they are and I'm goin to get help and go after them. Don't wake lilly, she needs to sleep. If I am not back by morning, send for the king's guards. They will find me at the home of the duchess." He kissed his mother and went out of the house and mounting one of the team horses bareback with his sword on his belt, and bow and full quiver of arrows. He went to the home of his neighbor who helped him with the construction. John was more than happy to help. When he heard it was the Duchess they were after, he chuckled. "Well! the mighty have fallen!" He woke his two son's who were 19 and very strong, and the four of then set out after the horses.

The four of them arrived at the estate in the dead of night, and Eli led them to the stables. He whistled quietly for Tibus and got an immediate response. "The horses are here. You and the boys secure the barn, let no one come or go. I am going to collect the Duchess." He tied his horse to the fence, and took off across the paddock for the estate. When the butler answered the door. he was greeted by the tip of Eli's sword, and on Eli's word took him to her Chambers where she lay sleeping. Eli stood with the Butler at the door, while the terrified maid went to arouse her mistress. Looking sleepy, The duchess cameto the door a minute later. "You madam are a thief!" You have our horses, and I have evideence that you took them personally. I mean to take you before the king in irons. Get your self dressed." He kept his sword trained on the neck of the butler. "Please madam!" the butler pleaded "Do as he says!"

The woman let the blanket fall from her naked breasts and shrugged. "Go ahead and kill him. oh those pups you had....All dead." she said as she got up and went to the fireplace and stroked the fire. "Who said I stole them?" she said looking to Eli. "Its the old woman you need to talk to. She saw me and walked away with a wave of her hand. Something about not looking out after an ungrateful son....? Tell me what does that mean anyways?" She asked as she looked to her terrified butler.

"Please he won't kill you and if he does the King will take his head and my husband will make those bitches my slaves." She looked to Eli. "Take your horses...I got what I wanted out of your golden stallion. In a years time I'll have finer horses than the Royal family." When Eli didn't seem to move she grabbed her sword that still had the puppies' blood on it. Swinging it up knocking it away from her butler as she clashed swords with him to force him out of her room and down the stairs where she kicked him hard enough to send him down them. "If you were wise...Leave now before I report to the King out of paranoia, sense of entitlement you tried to rape me plus tried to blame me of stealing when it was the old woman who allowed me access to the barn."

Eli steadied himself at the bottom of the stairs. He hadn't expected physical aggression from a woman of her stature, and would never has shown physical aggression toward her as a gentleman. He held no such illusions now. If what she said was true, his mother would not be summoning the kings guard, and he was on his own, there would be no back up. This placed the whole affair in a new perspective. With the staircase between them he knocked an arrow and drew back, aiming squarely between her naked breasts. "Do not deceive yourself! I will shoot you! Drop your sword! Make one false move and your dead. My mother doesn't own the barn or the horses and you knew it. You were ordered in open court to stay off my land. You are a trespasser and a horse thief, and I am within my rights to shoot you. Step slowly down the stairs.

The Duchess dropped the sword to the ground and raised her hands an started down the stairs. As she moved down the stairs, Eli backed away maintaining his distance. The butler remained at the top of the stairs trembling. As she reached the bottom of the stairs he forced her to lay flat on the floor and then ordered the butler to tie her hands with a curtain rope behind her. He moved closer, keeping her in the aim of his arrow. "Now get out!" he ordered the butler, as the awful woman laid naked and tied in front of him. When his friend saw the butler running from the house he left the barn in the charge of his son and headed to the house to see what had happened. When John entered, he said "Tie her feet as well." when her feet and hands were tied he had his friend take the bow and keep her in his sights while he stood her up in front of them. "Now you are going to the king , just as you are to face trial."

While Eli tied the Duchess up and made her stand there. "You're making the biggest mistake of your pathic life." She growled at him.

"What mistake? expecting you to be honorable? I admit, that was a mistake. You kill my dogs, steal my wife's stallion, and turn my own mother against me. You are a fine human being. You do wonders for the reputation of royalty. You may ruin my life in the bargain, but you are going to the gallows if you do." he tied her to a post in the barn. "John send your son to the king's castle tell them we need his guard. He promised me protection, I trust him. We will let the king judge between us, the duchess and I,that is unless she would like to make things right here and now." He turned to the Duchess. "As I see it you have killed my dogs and stolen the seed of my wife's stallion, and treated it inhumanly. Rightly the foals that are born of your mares belong to my wife and the mares belong to me in exchange for the dogs. Either that or we can wait on the kings guard, and you can risk hanging. What will it be?

"You threaten my butler's life and he will testfy to that. I turn your mother against you? I wouldn't come between a mother and child. I may be a Duchess but I'm not a heartless man who crushed his own mother's heart!" She snapped at him. Once the guards came word got out Eli had threaten the butler's life and she knocked Eli out, the blood on her blade was just blade, sure she had his horses but as they asked Eli had issues with his fences.

The stables were emptied out into Eli's hands but upon arrival at his home his mother stood there in her robe with Lillian there.

"Ma'am...Did the duchess ask for the stallion?" One guard asked the older woman.

"She did and I just waved her off and replied I was no longer looking after an ungrateful son." She said sternly as she looked at Eli.

"Wha...." Lillian turned on the woman and Eli. This didn't seem right. "Ungrateful?! He took you in when he could have allowed you to be killed!"

"No he didn't. I confronted you as I saw the dispair in his eyes, I felt his pain as you spurn his affections, his love went unanswered. What was I suppose to do? Allow you to continue to hurt him? NO! I wanted you to wake up and be an adult instead of playing family." This family feud seemed to have spilled over into a public audience. "I will not apologize for looking out for my child but I will be leaving by morning!" Turning away as she intended to make good on her word on leaving Eli and Lillian alone.

Eli stepped between the women "alright this has gone far enough! we will not air our family difference before the Kings guards!" He turned to the captain of the guard. "Sir please tell the king that should the Duchess wish to press any charges against me I will happily answer to him, and bring my own against her. Further, please serve her notice that should she ever set foot on my property again, I will personally shoot her myself, as is my right. She does not deserve the dignity normally owed to a woman. "

He then turned back to the women. He took each by the arm, and led them both in the house. Once inside, he turned both to face him and did not release either one. Looking at his mother he said "Mother I love you, and always will. You gave me birth and for that I owe you respect. However, I am a married man and this lovely lady is my wife and my love, and it is to her I owe my first allegiance. She has done me no disrespect, and you have no call to take offense at her. Since for the moment at least, we live under the same roof, I would appreciate it if you two would make peace for my sake.

He released them both and stood with Lillian putting his arm around her waist. Eli was very tired. " Lilly? can we please go to bed?"

"No!" Lillian slapped his hand down as she stepped aside from the two. "Eli, she had the right to ask if I truly loved you and brought to light I was hurting you for what I was doing. Thats what she was doing and you call that her disrespecting me?" Shaking her head as she reached up grabbing the sides of her head just trying to think clearly.

"I'm gone by morning, Eli." His mother said as a matter of factly to him. She could see this was creating some misunderstandings within this small family and she made up her mind. Silently the women moved off to go to bed but Lillian left the door open for Eli. That day was filled with drama and Lillian herself was tired and just sick. Laying down in bed expecting Eli to join her.

When morning came Lillian was up late and found her mother in law was gone and the girls were returning. "Where were you?" Yawning as Tiffany looked up.

"Helping Nanny move into her cottage down the road." The blonde teenager took her Aunt out on the porch and waved to Eli's mother who looked out and waved back. Lillian smiled and waved also. "Why did she have to move?"

"I think...She was ready to sit back and watch her son start his own family and be there when he actually needs help." Lillian looked to Tiffany who has this somewhat undestanding look but yet confused. "When you get older I doubt you want me and Uncle Eli in your marriage stating you should do this and that."

Tiffany agreed that perhaps she didn't like her Aunt or Uncle butting into her relationships. "Ummm Aunt Lillian...After last night the others and I talked about defending. I want to learn archery and perhaps blade work. Joe has offered to teach me swordsmenship."

Lillian stood on the porch rubbing her stomach in thought. "We'll sit as a family and discuss it all. But chores." Smiling as she went to the stables but her smile dropped when she saw Tibus, abused form. The lashed markings that were still dripping blood and hiss once head held high was hanging low and he had bit of a limp. "Tibus..." Tears welled in her eyes with her hands over her mouth. looking over at the new founded horses seeing the new mares were of okay stock but what hurt her more was Tibus.

Eli went out to the barn and found Lilly with her stallion. "He certainly got the worst of all this" Eli said, but I believe he will heal. I'd liked to have striped that woman's ass for this. Cut her like she did him. I'm so sorry Lilly" Eli got his firts aid kit and rubbed salve on Tibus nose and fed him an apple out of his hand. "Its ok boy, you didn't deserve this."

He held her hand and kissed her gently on the cheek. "yesterday was just plain hard. It shook my faith in human nature" Right at that moment, Eli looked about as sad as Tibus. "Elly, I wasn't a good son, or a good groom, or a good husband! what good am I?" Seeing Tibus had brought it all to the surface. He walked slowly out of the barn and sat on the edge of the porch, his head between his knees.

Lillian turned and followed him and forced him to look up at her. "You're a man whose trying to find his way in this world. We...We can't fight blade to blade like in the past. This land is governed by laws and rules. Lets fight on THEIR level." Sitting beside him as she pulled him into her with her nuzzling him.

"We make mistakes and we have to learn from them because....I am with child." That last sentence was so faint as if she was afraid to say it then it wouldn't be true. "I am with child." Whispering once more to him.

"His ears perked up at her whispers. "With child?? Really??" His back straightened up and he smiled and he hugged her warmly. "I guess I'm good for something!" he said proudly. He kissed her and smiled. "I'm sorry I got all down, and that I don't always think before I act. That's just another reason that I need you. Do you think we can take the girls to my mother and and go down by the creek again tonight? I just want to hold you in my arms for a while. " He was still tired even though he had just gotten up.

He kissed her on the forehead and went back to the barn. He had many more horses now to care for now. with the four mares all pregnant by Tibus. They weren't as Mary, but with Tibus as their father the foals would still be good horses.

"Actually we need to have a family discussion tonight. But afterwards we can let Tiffany take the girls to your mothers and we can be at the creek." Smiling at him but she had to lalugh with his new found joy of being a father. Walking to the stables she had helped clean the stalls out and laid in fresh hay then went to the gardens where the girls were then tended to the other animals.

When night came the girls sat at the table when Eli arrived and they had dinner out. "Eli, darling....Tiffany brought it to my attention they wished to learn how to defend themselves. Joe, John's son offered to teach Tiffany how to use a sword or perhaps a bow. What do you think?" Once he thought it out and the standards of Eli or Lillian being there when lessons were given would be fine. After it was settled Lillian stood at the door watching the girls head off to his mothers and once they were safe she grabbed a blanket and swung up into the saddle in front of him. "None of that talk of you not being a good man." Smiling as she flicked his nose.
