Cap'n Strauss

Super-Earth
Here's the crew roster and passenger list for my ship.

Captain:
Name: Reed Owens
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Appearance:
TPhoto_00004_zpse51e5898.jpg
5'9" 160 lbs. Various tattoos (including the famous browncoat shoulder patch tattooed to his right shoulder where it would go on the sleeve of the uniform) that will be covered in the story.
Background: Reed Owens was with the Independents from the beginning of the war. While seeing the many horrors that go along with being infantry in a war, Owens managed to keep his head throughout the war, as well as show many leadership qualities that earned him the rank of sergeant towards the middle of the war and he kept his stripes by the end. While he wasn't on Hera at the end of the war, Owens had been apart of many important battles during the war including the battle of Du Kang. His unit, at the time, had faught along side the 57th Overlanders for a short time. His most notable unit was with the 22nd during the Battle of Du Kang, though Owens has been transferred a couple time, but he had been apart of bloodier battles. He'd been with the 105th and the 41st as well.
Weapons/Gear: Owens' weapon of choice is a Liberty Hammer. Custom modified. He also favors a large knife and a small folding pocket knife and multitool.
Notes/Misc: None as yet.

First Mate:

Name: Matthias Roan
Age: 44
Gender: Male

Appearance: Topping out a little over six feet tall and heavy set, most of his body mass concentrated in his upper body. Almost permanent 5 o'clock shadow, and a weathered look to his skin, like someone who has been exposed to a great deal of wear and tear over the years.

Background: Served as a Colonel in the Independent military, often providing 'eyes on' assessments of combat zones. Thusly, had put boots down on more than a few major engagements in the war. Helped coordinate a six system wide assault based on stolen deployment data that was a devastating loss for the Alliance, resulting in hundreds of captured prisoners, and hundreds more dead. The Alliance suffered the loss of one of their massive Tohaku cruisers in the debacle, the first one to fall in the course of the war. Was leading the defence of Hera until word came that High Command was beginning to dither on the commitment to the battle. Roan left the battle to report to them that the battle was still able to be won, but only if they commit more to the fray. By the time he had made any headway, High Command was opting to surrender the fight. Never forgiving them for that, Roan walked from the command structure. Well and truly tired of being in charge of things, Roan spent some time taking whatever combat jobs he could find, offering a discount if it allowed him to stick his thumb in the eye of an Alliance operation. He settled for a job on the Sanguine for a sense of stability and ready pay.

Weapons/Gear: Typically armed to the teeth. Carries a heavy rifle, meticulously lathed out and hand crafted during the early phases of the war. Repeating 12 gauge rounds, usually slugs or other solid rounds, it is equally capable of firing shot rounds.
As a side arm, Roan favoured a heavy pistol, 10mm heavy shells, providing maximum impact.
As a secondary a smaller pistol, but one that provides the capability for auto-fire.
As a hold out, he carries a small pistol. It provides excellent hitting power, but is short ranged, only carries four shots, and was mainly chosen for ease of concealment.
And for when the foe is simply too close for a gun, a heavy bladed knife completes his normal complement of weaponry

Notes/Misc: Very briefly owned and operated his own ship, winning it on a bet. That vessel, a Mercury class transport called the Fateless, was ultimately impounded for outstanding fines accrued by the previous owner, and the Alliance not recognizing that ownership had changed hands. Roan remains bitter about the whole expiernce to a large degree, giving him shorter than average patience with impound agents.

Medic:

Name: Jeana Harley
Age: 31
Gender: Female
Appearance: Jeana stands at 5'5'' and has a curvy, well-built body. Her skin is especially tanned on her face, and she displays freckles, which give her a slightly childish look. Her eyes are a clear amber, and her hair's color is a mix between auburn and bright red; it's wavy and can reach past her elbows, but she usually keeps it up in a ponytail, for comfort. Most of her body usually remains covered, with button-up jackets, jeans, and high boots; she tends to get blood on her clothes quite often thanks to her job, but she's always neatly dressed once more in a matter of minutes. She's known for always wearing gloves on her hands, and a smile on her lips.
Background: Jeana is the daughter of a couple of travelling doctors. She grew up in a ship, visiting different planets of the rim with her parents and the rest of the people that took part in their crew of travelling medics. She learned everything she needed to know from them, from medicine to science in general, from politics to how to use a gun and a knife. She stayed with the same crew even after she was old enough to leave; that is, until the war broke. Her parents ended up joining the medical team of the Alliance, but she bailed out. By pure chance she was able to join a new ship, that transported refugees from both sides of the conflict to the rim; she ended up managing the health division of the crew until the war was over. Until the end she stated that she would save people, regardless of their views.
She thought of looking for her parents after things started settling down, but she ended up joining the Sanguine crew as the assigned medic, and she felt too comfortable to leave.
Weapons/Gear: She has a first-aid backpack that she carries with her everywhere; it has amazingly varied tools and medicine. She doesn't leave the ship without a knife and a gun (1911 chambered in 9mm) hanging from her hip.
Notes/Misc: Her cheerie and happy-go-lucky attitude have earned her the nickname "Jeanie", which sounds really childish in her opinion. She doesn't mind as long as everyone remembers she knows exactly how to apply the right dose of morphine to kill an adult man.

Pilot:

Name: Mena “Hawk” Firestone
Age: Thirty Four
Gender: Female
Appearance: Mena stands at a height of 5’7” and has a wiry build. Her bright auburn hair is cut to the nape of her neck and is usually unkempt. Usually she dresses for comfort, sticking to worn pants, shirts and a ragged bomber jacket worn during the Independent war.
Background: Born on Aberdeen Mena grew up with her parents and two brothers. From an early age she had an interest in ships and flying, as well as mythology and the arts. Once she was able to she signed up and completed her training with a Flight Academy. When the Independent War started she signed up as a pilot and started with the 105th Airborne Infantry (Called the Ebon Hawks). It was perhaps the name of the squad or her skill in flight and marksmanship that earned her the nickname “Hawk”. After the first two years of the war she was elevated to the rank of First Lieutenant under the rank of Sern Vasar and became part of the 21st (Known as the Harbringers). During this time she participated in the Battle of Sturges and near the end of the war was above Hera during the battle of Serenity Valley. Once the war wound down and feeling bereft of something to do she became a mercenary until an ex Independent soldier picked her up to be a pilot.
Weapons/Gear: Two Callaghan Semi-Automatic Pistols. One Bowie Knife, Two Combat Knives. (Can use a sniper rifle if needed)
Notes/Misc: Mena is only called by her given name by her brother (and her family of course), to the rest of the crew and most of their acquaintances she’s called Hawk. She's also sells sketches, etc off when on planet and she plays a mean violin.

Mechanic:

Name: Tristan Firestone
Age: Thirty Four
Gender: Male
Crew/Passenger: Crew
Job (if crew): Engineer/Mechanic
Appearance: Tristan is 6’ tall and has a leanly muscled build. His hair is black and curls slightly and his eyes are a bright grey. He usually dresses in grease and oil spotted clothes or a ratty jumpsuit.
Background: Tristan grew up on the planet Aberdeen with a healthy interest in engines and girls. He was the charmer and flirt of the family and usually was the one to dive head first into trouble with his sister at his side (usually ready to drag him out of it). When the war started and the family leant their efforts to it one way or the other Tristan’s war effort consisted of making sure that the Independent ships flew proper. Once the war was done he set up his own garage until the chance for adventure and money came up through an offer to be crew on the Sanguine.
Weapons/Gear: Mossberg 500 Shot gun, brass knuckles and a pipe wrench.
Notes/Misc: He has a thing for brunettes. He's got a good singing voice (tenor range), and like sleight of hand tricks.

"Public Relations":

ame: Asher Wade
Age: 43
Gender: Male
Appearance: Asher
Background: Born on Haven, Asher started working in the mines when he was only eight, placing charges in places that adults couldn't. His work in the mines drug on for years and he went from being a powder man, to a digger, to a prospector. But things changed when he was twenty one, at which point he'd saved up enough to buy a gun for himself as well as passage off planet. Since then he's traveled around, doing odd jobs here and there; a few years as a ranch hand, spent the war selling his gun, was even a fry cook for a few months. Eventually he found himself hired to the crew of Sangiune, doing pretty much what needed doing. He has certainly proved one thing, he's not afraid of working hard or getting his hands dirty.
Weapons/Gear: Asher carries a lever action shotgun, pistol, combat knife and tool kit.
Notes/Misc: None at the moment

Name: Kalmus Logosi
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Crew/Passenger: Passenger
Appearance: Kalmus
Background:
The Logosi monks follow three basic principles.
First, the Principle of Inevitability. Within the circle of being, what comes before determines what comes after, without exception.
Second, the Principle of Reason. Reason, or Logos, exists, in a formal sense, outside of the circle of being, allowing one to understand the circle from an external viewpoint.
Third, the Principle of Power. Knowing and changing what comes before, through Logos, allows control of what comes after.

The Logosi therefore believe the will to be illusory, an artifact of the soul's inability to perceive what comes before it. The soul, in the Logosi world view, is part of the circle of being, and therefore as much driven by prior events as anything else. In other words, men do not possess self-moving souls. Far from a given, such a soul is an accomplishment for the Logosi. The soul men are born with is too obtuse and clouded by animal passions to be anything other than a slave of what comes before. The whole point of the Logosi ethos is to overcome these limitations and so become a self-moving soul -- to attain what they call the Absolute, or the Unconditioned Soul.

But unlike those exotic orders and cults devoted to various other forms of enlightenment, the Logosi are not so naive as to think this can be attained within the course of a single lifetime. They think of this, rather, as a multi-generational process. Quite early on they recognized that the instrument itself, the soul, was flawed, so they instituted a program of selective breeding for intellect and dispassion. In a sense the entire order became a kind of experiment, isolated from the world to maintain control, with each prior generation training the next to the limit of their capabilities, the idea being that over generations they would produce souls that could climb further and further from the circle of before and after. The hope was that eventually they would produce a soul utterly transparent to Logos, a soul that would climb completely over the inherent slavery of causality; of being genuinely self-moving.

Kalmus is a 9th generation Logosi, a creature with a mind designed to pick up and process the most minute of tells, deciphering complex action patterns with an eerie, inhuman accuracy. Clairvoyance, some would call it. Almost as if it's less terrifying to think of it as magic than to consider it something that's actually possible because of hints and whispers that are already written - that we are all slaves to our present and our pasts until the day we die.

Weapons/Gear: Much like his crafty, cunning way with minds, Kalmus fights with the understanding that the world is his weapon, from makeshift clubs and daggers to his environment as a whole.
Notes/Misc: Kalmus, or "Kal", is a soft-spoken, gentle enigma of a man. His words are short and poetic, often possessing multiple meanings that only become understandable in hindsight. He dislikes confrontation, but will openly refute what he considers stupid, naive or sentimental and leave it at that. He travels light and carries little to no belongings, content to watch and spin the wheel as he plays the strings.
