Why do you care?
So, I posed a question today to my fellow admin and it was well received. Given that, I wanted to pose it to the rest of the community and see what the general masses thought before implementing things further. What was my thought? Well, we here at BMR have a relatively large group of people who hail from the gaming arena--and I'm talking all sorts of gaming (console, PC, cards like MtG et al, TTRPG, etc). We even have some of you who post us awesome updates to your channels or bring up topics about various upcoming games, etc etc etc.... you pretty much can name it. Thing is, people always wonder where they belong.

Do I post in General Discussion? Do I post in Music, Media & Artwork?

Well, how about if those of the gaming community (again this would encompass ALL types of gaming) had their OWN gaming subforum much like we have for GD and/or Music/Media????? Thoughts on this???

The other idea I had that sort of spurred from this was the idea of another OOC subforum dedicated to Anime. HOWEVER--and I want this to be VERRRRRRY clear--if the Anime idea ended up popular and a go, any and all images would HAVE to follow the two following rules:

1) No loli/shota... a given!!!!
2) All images would have to be Work Safe... don't want the forums to become an explosion of hentai/porn.

If either ended up being broken the subforum would be shut down without hesitation. But anyway, so thoughts on this as well???

Any and all feedback is welcome! :)

I personally love the idea. Being a smaller amer myself, I think it'd be nice to have these discussion forums where people can relax and post things related to certain videos or favorite games. Right now it's sorta just wedged into general discussions, and seeing that, it's a little hard to identify or separate the ideas and topics. I'm for it, but just look at me, I'm a newcomer in relative terms when it comes to all the other people on the site. I can't wait to see the other responses to this.

No harm in trying it out. These are changes that can be easily reversed if they prove unpopular or troublesome.

*nods* I think the gaming one holds the most promise given that we have a fairly large gamer population here at BMR. The Anime one I think holds promise as well, but it would mean tweaking some site rules and adding in a reminder sticky or so within the subforum making it clear about the graphics since I know that there could be an explosion of 'crazy' depending (and, it has to be said, not everyone reads the site rules or the stickies placed within each section even though they should). But yes, it's true. Worse come to worse, things can get shut down if needs be. However, my hope is that adding in something like what I'm proposing will only allow our current (and future) members more places to venture and discuss things, a special corner that caters to a large population that frequents the place and something that could also help us to grow even more. And maybe even inspire as well. :)

Yeah, I think it's worth a shot. Like Mitsu said, easy to get rid of if they don't show any differences.

This should definitely be given a chance. Yeah, I have wondered on some gaming/anime topics and where to put them myself so .... yes. I'm all for this.

I think it should be given a chance as well. We have a whole bunch of threads in GD that could be transferred over and we have one member who updates his YouTube channel for us pretty much daily. Given the outstanding interest in a vast amount of the RTs for both males and females that venture into gaming territory it's quite clear we have a large gaming community here. This new subforum wouldn't be limited to console games either. It would include console, PC, stuff like MtG, TTRPGs (and other system style games). So, it would include an even greater bunch than people might realize.

I definitely think it could be a wonderful idea and, personally, would love to see it happen.

I'm pretty much a huge nerd of every gaming genre, but for awhile there my ideas were limited. I thought I knew what I liked. First person shooters made my skin crawl and I didn't think I would like any of them, ever... until I finally got convinced to try out Borderlands. I'm still pretty horrible at the battle part, but I love the story and the artwork from it. Sort of the same thing happened with Fallout. Occasionally it just takes being exposed to things from a different perspective to get you hooked on something.

However, if BMR got an Anime/Manga subforum, I don't think I'd ever get off the site which could be problematic.

And as Mitsu pointed out, while it also has the potential to be a Pandora's box of crazy, if it does get to be a problem you can just delete it.

I think a gaming forum is a wonderful idea. Back when I was last stateside I was a big fan of SWTOR, and would have loved to play alongside fellow writers here. I also played LoL for a while.

As for anime, you occasionally see hentai images in RP requests, so I don't think there is an issue with them as long as they are properly flagged.

I do believe a gaming subforum would be a fantastic idea honestly. As would an anime OOC section! I'm pretty sure these sections will be very well received lol.

I am not into the 'gaming' arena, as mentioned in the original post, being I am 60, ;) but would suggest it be put in Music Media and Artwork, as the games are actually a form of media. I'd also suggest a tight leash on it with reference to the loli/shota and other possible limit breakers...like the others in here that posted, it would not hurt to try it to see if it fits. :)

Firstly, I'm glad to see a decent response to the suggestions. Also, the one I'm a bit more concerned about having issues isn't the gaming so much as it is Anime. And, really, I'm thinking the gaming should really having its own unique section and Anime is the one I'm contemplating as to whether it should be placed under Music/Media or not. I'm leaning toward making it unique for organizational purposes. But, if it gets traffic and just not a huge amount, it can always be placed under it later on without much issue. Likewise, if Anime ends up becoming a problem with graphics, it can always be closed and/or modded depending on its popularity. If it's popular, to be properly modded, it'll need to be its own unique section. If it isn't, then I'd probably just close it down all together. Anyway, this kind of gives some insight as to why I'd set it up the way I would. At least initially anyway. :)

I think it's worth a shot. As an amateur gamer (i.e. I know nothing constructive about gaming, just that people in my life like to see me play certain games and make a fool out of myself), I enjoy seeing and learning from others as well as potentially seeing the community's youtube channels if they are gamers because they are some of my favorite channels to watch on youtube. Also, as a beginner to table top, it might be helpful learning from those more experienced, getting their takes on various games, etc. I vote it's worth a shot!
