Prophecy (Breath x Razi)

It seemed that this woman didn’t have a view of how things really were in the world yet, by how shocked she was as his callous words of her past friend. But this was the other world, and keeping that from humans was the most important thing. Was. Now, that was on keeping this woman safe, the one that could call the apocalypse on this planet, apparently. Which meant that she was better in isolated hands than, well, the hands of any other being in the world.

“There is no home now for you.” Alexander said in a low voice. “I can guarantee that the people that took over your friend are going through your home as we speak, and waiting for you to pop up there just in case. They aren’t going to stop trying to get you unti”l they die or they have you

Her heart sank a little at his words, 'there is no home for you now' how could there not be a home for her. Everyone is suppose to have a home, and now she had none. Her head started spin as he continued, why couldn't this day be the same as yesterday. She wanted her normal life back, the one where she only had to worry about getting to work on time. Now everything that she owned was out of her reach. "I think I need to sit down," she searched for the nearest object to sit on. That was of course the stairs directly in front of her. She guided herself down on the first step. "Why do they even want me, and who is they," she looked first the the stranger and then to Zal. Someone would have the answer, she clearly didn't. Her mind flashed back to her home town of LA, where life was so much simpler.

“It’s a lot to learn, I know. This is why the two worlds are separate. But what is important is that you are safe, away from them. But you need to rest.” Alexander took a few steps toward her, but Zalera moved forward first. “I’ll escort her upstairs and fill her in on the information. You have damage control to take care of, after all.”

Alexander seemed wanting to interrupt that, but couldn’t come up with something, so he let Zal go. He walked forward, lifting Maddy to her feet before leading her upstairs, to the second floor west wing. “There are things that prowl the night, Maddy.” He said simply, as they went into the hallway. “One of the things trying to get you are from the dark places, away from normal humanity. What they want with you… I don’t know. But they can’t get you here.”

She was still confused, what did he mean by two worlds? Her eyes watched him cautiously as he stepped towards her. She did need to rest, but doubted that she would. Her mind was still trying to wrap itself around the nights events. Before the stranger could take anymore steps Zal moved ahead of him. She really didn't trust anyone here, but she at least knew his name. For all she knew these people were just like the ones Mark was taking her to.

Maddy managed to keep from flinching when he lifted her to her feet. Thinking she saw something in the other mans face, she hesitated before following Zal up the stairs. She listened as they walked, he was talking of the things her parents told her weren't real when she was a child. Monsters that lurked in the dark, waiting for an unsuspecting child to happen upon them. The difference now was someone was telling her they were in fact real. "Well.... why do you want me. I already know that you won't take me home, in fact I just don't have a home to go to anymore." Her thoughts wandered to her parents, would she even be able to tell them she was okay.

"I have family outside of Haven you know, they will wonder what happened if they don't hear from me." Maddy wasn't trying to be a pain in the ass, but they had to realize that she still had lose ends. Looking down at her clothing she rolled her eyes, "I know he said I couldn't go back for anything from my apartment, but could one of you?"

Zalera was quiet as he thought over how to answer her. After all, it was a long evening for her, and it was only going to get longer as her mind tortured her with how everything would go for her. He finally opened his mouth, paused, closed it, then took a deep breath before answering her. “We will discuss that tomorrow. You need your rest, and you’ve been shocked with so much already. There is no need to toss you around even more tonight.” He stopped at a door, turning to her.

“A room has been prepared for you, I am sure it is comfortable enough for you. I’ll make sure something from your apartment is picked up, but I cannot give you any promises about how well it is intact. Especially if they get there before we do. They are a persistent lot.” With that he opened the door.

The room was large, although most of the room was dominated by a large king-sized bed, canopy cover blocking out how it was on the inside. But it looked poofy and soft, a good mix of cotton and silk. Wardrobes were in the room, and another door led to a bathroom. “My brother is old-fashioned, but I made sure he upgraded to electricity about a year ago. So it should be good for you.” Of course, the room did not have any windows.

“You can get a hold of your family tomorrow, after you rest. We don’t need any more people getting mixed into this now, do we? After all, a link from you to them could make them targets. So a private line will be given for you to use.”

It seemed he was going to leave her question unanswered for a moment. They both walked silence for a bit before he finally spoke. Mentally she sighed at his answer, like she wasn't going to toss with out the answer. However she nodded in agreement, though a part of her wanted to demand the answer from him now. If her own nerves weren't on edge she would have offered him a smile.

Nodding once again as he explain that if they brought anything back for her it might not be in good condition. She was still confused about what "they" were, and what it was that used Mark as a "vessel". Maddy had the feeling she was going to be learning all this soon enough. There was no point dwelling on it, so she would try and push it back. When the door opened she peered inside. She wasn't all that surprised at the appearance really, it matched the rest of the house. The bed alone though look way to big for her, even the queen size felt to big sometimes.

Walking into the room her hands rubbed at her bare arms. She wasn't so much cold, it was more that the adrenaline was beginning wear off. Maddy found herself actually laughing a little at his words, 'old fashioned'. "Thank you Zal," she said glancing back at him. Looking back into the room, she had noticed something was missing from it. Her eyes widened slightly, there were no windows in this room. She found this a tiny bit alarming, but she didn't want Zal to see this. Hands still rubbing at her bare arms Maddy turned towards him. "I will also get some answer tomorrow right?"

Her family and their safety was important, but what would happen to her took priority. She was in a strange home, with strange people, and apparently even stranger things trying to kidnap her. Once again her mind had to ask what the hell was happening. No she would not be sleeping, not for a while at least. She had yet to grasp that she arrive in this home by means other then walking or driving a car. One minute she was in a parking lot and the next she was standing in foyer.

Zalera noticed that she seemed to both bundle and relax slightly, both from his presence and his words. It was a comforting thought to think that she was starting to give in to her current situation, although it was dangerous to simply assume that she was. His mind noted that bit of worry from her, and he immediately went to rectifying it. “This room, and most of the house, doesn’t have windows, because it’s been built into the mountain. The marble and polished walls were put in after a basis of the rooms were carved out. Of course… I can’t simply show you a way outside, because your protection doesn’t get that far out. There is only so much we can do to keep you safe, after all.”

She turned to him, and he turned to face her as well. “Yes, tomorrow you will get answers. Probably not all of the answers you seek, but many. You’ve already learned a lot tonight, and we do not want to overload your mind with information you are not ready for. If it was up to Alexander, you wouldn’t know for a while because of that. But time is a pressing matter, and keeping you in the dark is as dangerous as everything else.

“Go bathe, then sleep. You need it, and it will help you relax.” Zalera moved away from the door to let her get inside the room easily. “The house will probably feel empty during the day, since we work nights. But I’m sure if you call out we will be there to help you if you wake before nightfall. Sleep well.” With that he would leave her for the night, walking back towards the main hall.

Was she simply giving in to her situation, on the outside it would definitely looked that way. Maddy on the other hand was a stubborn person and didn't give in that easy to anything. She accepted her situation yes, she wasn't succumbing to it though, at least not yet. His explanation for the lack of windows eased her worry some, at least it sounded like a legitimate reason to not have windows. What she didn't like however was a that she wouldn't be a shown a way out, even if it was claimed to be for her protection. For now she would accept this, only until she knew just how far she could go with these people.

Nodding her head then as he continued to answer a few of her questions. She supposed the reason for waiting until the next day made sense. When Zal spoke of Alexander she surmised he must be talking about the darker haired male who brought her here. "I appreciate that a lot, really Zal. I don't think I could handle being kept in the dark, when I don't even have the choice of leaving here."

As he stepped aside to let her in the room she hesitantly walked inside. A bath really did sound nice, but she still doubted she would sleep. Nodding her head as he explained the day time situation. Did that mean she would be left to herself during the day then. What was she suppose to do during the day if nobody was going to be around. Mentally shrugging to herself, "thank you again Zal," she said just as he left the room.

A quick look around and Maddy mad her way to the bathroom. Eyes widening a little at the size of the room. Checking to make sure Zal hadn't come back for something she stepped towards the large tub. Filling it with the hottest water she could stand she striped away every article of clothing. Stepping into the steaming water she hisses at first and sunk down into it.

Zalera didn’t turn back to her room, making a straight line downstairs, to the main entrance. Alexander, Raphael, and Trish were still standing there, idly conversing about the situation, but all of them looked up to him as he came down the stairs. “She has been put into a room and is currently bathing before resting. I’m sure things will go smoothly from here, brother.”

“Very good, Zal. I’m glad I put you on defense duty for her. She warmed up quickly.” Alexander turned back to Trish, a frown on his face. “So the Faye are using possession tactics to get to her? This is… alarming. And you say that you are uninjured in the conflict?”

“The stupid bastard had no idea how to counter illusion magic, of course I was going to be fine. And when it realized that it would lose, it ran like a coward, left us with a man that had to die knowing our secrets.”

“Waste of blood.” Alex turned to Raphael. “And the defenses, you made sure to fortify them, yes?”

“I went over them before picking her up, every defense that we have is at full strength. There is nothing that will be able to breach them without us knowing it and several hours to prepare to fight. And it’s not like we cannot summon brethren here in that timeframe.”

“Good, good…” Alex seemed to go pensive. “I’m considering between speaking with her now and speaking with her tomorrow. As much as her mind needs to stay intact, we have very little time to waste. I’m going to ponder this in my study.” And with that, Alex disappeared into thin air, leaving the three there looking puzzled at each other.

The bath was done, and while Maddy felt relaxed, she wasn't relaxed enough to sleep. It wasn't for lack of trying though. She laid on the large bed, draped in heavy fabrics for almost an hour. Sleep continued to stay just out of her reach. Her mind was still trying to process everything that happened. Problem was she didn't have much to go off, with so little information. Sure she witnessed a lot, but the scenes conflicted with everything she had been told since she was a small child.

'Monsters only exist in stories and movies, Maddy. There is nothing in your closet or under your bed. Now please go to sleep.'

Tonight proved to be contrary to what she was told, but she was still having a hard time grasping to the reality of what she saw. After the hour of trying to sleep Maddy slipped from the bed, planting a bare feet on the cold floor. Everything sounded so quiet, she wondered if everyone was sleeping. She had gotten dressed after her shower, in the same clothes she arrived in of course. She had nothing else as it were. Rubbing her arms against the chill in the room she padded silently to the door, opening it just a crack.

Poking her head out she looked in both directions down the hall. Still no sound greeted her. Maddy slipped from the room, closing the door until it was open just a crack, in case she had to make a mad dash back to the room. She stayed close to the wall as she walked in the direction she had come to arrive in the bedroom. The place was massive, but she found her way to the staircase once again. The three men and the woman had wandered of somewhere, so the foyer was empty. She all most ran to the bottom, coming to a stop on the last step. Still no noises.

*****Time Skip*****

It was a whole twenty minutes of exploring later that she found herself in front of a closed door. She had found the kitchens, and the dinning room. Finding nothing of interest in any of them she had continued on. Now standing in front of the door, she pondered if she should open it or not. Curiosity had always prevailed when it came to Maddy, her small hand reached towards the knob. Fingers wrapping delicately around the polished object she turned it slowly. The latch gave a quiet click ans she pushed the door open slightly slipping into the mysterious room. Closing the door just as silently as when she opened it.

Alexander’s study was a decently large room, lined with several bookshelves. Each were filled to the brim with books, but most weren’t novella – minus a few of his personal favorites. Most were of another kind: complex chemistry books filled with equations and mixture notes, books on runic and elemental magic, books about each species in existence. It was a treasure trove of forbidden knowledge, all bound to the room, magically stopped from leaving.

The only light source in the room came from a large, roaring fire opposite the doorway, which was flanked by two large furred chairs. One of them was occupied, a man with a book in hand and head turned away from her. But it was from that man that a voice arose from. “I was wondering how long of wandering the halls it would take for you to find this room. But you are here now, and that is what is important in the long run. Come take a seat.”

He waited for her to take a seat before he put the book down, straddling the arm of the chair. His eyes moved to face her. “I would have expected you to be asleep by now, but it seems the curious mind of yours is keeping you up. So there is little to do except the one thing that you wish for.” He shifted in his chair, leaning back, arms resting on the chair’s arms. “Ask me your questions and you will get your answers. But ask yourself: are you ready for the answers you will get?”

With the door properly closed, she finally turned towards the dimly lit room. Bookshelves lining the walls told her she was in a study of course. Her eyes would search the many books that filled them before searching the rest of the room. For the moment she stay with her back pressed against the door.

The voice is what brought her attention to the fact she wasn't alone in here as she had first thought she would be. Cursing herself as she jumped slightly from his unexpected voice. "I'm sorry I should have stayed in my room I know." Straightening her spine as she made her way towards the offered chair, her bare feet not making a sound on the floor as she approached. Her attention would stray to various things in the room until she sunk down into the chair.

Maddy smiled as he spoke, her eyes now following his every movement. Was she nervous, yes actually she was. This was not like her at all. Any other occasion she would be a braver person, but in this one she felt.....were those butterflies in her stomach? The realization only proved the cause a slight blush to creep over her cheeks. "Again, I am sorry. There are just so many unanswered questions, my mind just wouldn't let them go." Shifting in her own seat, not to get comfortable, but because her nervousness forced her to do so. "I suppose I will have to be ready for the answers won't I?"

Taking a shaky breath, that she tried her best to hide, she looked him in the eye. "I guess the first thing I want to know is, why do they and you for that matter want me so badly? I am just a cocktail waitress after all." She continued to hold her attention on his eyes.

“The number one question of the night, it seems.” Alexander sighed, letting his head hang down slightly, eyes closing as he cleared his mind to try to think of a way to put it clearly and well. After a moment he lifted his head back up, eyes locking onto hers. “I suppose the best place to start that question is at the what. The woman that Zalera warned you about, and the man that you thought was your friend, were Faye. Tricksters usually, they have become a rather… malevolent force as of late. Which is why they want you. Why we want you…

“We are guardians of this world. As much as we have terrorized humanity, we protect them against the other creatures of the night that would completely wipe them out. With a blood toll, of course, but not enough to put a dent on the population. And that is why we want you.

“The Faye believe that you would be a means to the end of the world. They want to utilize you for that end. How and why, I do not know. But that is why we must keep you safe, or else this world would be in peril.” His hand shifted, lifting the book and closing it. The book left his hand on its own, floating to a bookshelf and nestling itself in the crevasse meant for it. “They will go to great lengths to get you, but we are prepared for that as long as you are willing to stay here in safety.”

Maddy's eyes narrowed when he hung his head. Why did he an Zal find it so hard to answer this question? The answer may be a shock to her, but it didn't make her less curious to it. She shifted when he began to speak. He thought Mark was some sort of Faye. She didn't know a lot about them except that they had wings and stuff. Mark was far from magical that was for sure.

She stayed silent as he continued, shifting once again when he said they were guardians. What threw her off was the 'terrorized humanity' and the 'blood toll'. What did he mean by that, what was he that would require a toll to be paid in blood? Her mind was spinning with the information, not in a bad way though. It was strange that she accepted all this like it should be normal.

Her attention only followed the book a little, until it returned back to Alexander's face. In his speaking he already answered her next question she would have had. "And it is because of all this that I can never go back home, or even that I...." her voice hitched a little "don't have a home to go back too?" The thought of not belonging somewhere made her feel a little depressed. Everyone was suppose to belong somewhere. Maddy it seamed would have to live with not belonging. "Will I stay here always then, or will you eventually be showing me the door?" This was her future they were talking about too. Yes all of humanity was important, but wasn't she still apart of humanity.

Her mind and her body seemed to have had enough of this. Or was it something else that had her feeling strange suddenly. Pushing herself to her feet Maddy felt light headed. 'I am probably just exhausted, that is it.' The bruise on her arm from where Mark had grabbed her felt like fire just then. Her fingers brushed against it then, and the pain was worse. What should have been varying shades of purple, were instead shades of red like a burn. "I am...going back to my room," she took a step towards the door, and the room began to darken. Another step and her legs gave out on her, just as the darkness crept in even closer.

She seemed to be taking the information rather easily, considering the implications of such things. Still, he could see the trace amounts of shock and confusion there, even if she hid it from herself. Looking strong wasn’t the important thing in this world, but actually being strong. He was unsure which she was yet. He could see questions bubbling on her mind, although the ones that came out where the most obvious. Still, he answered them.

“Yes, that is right. They came tonight specifically to take you and use you in whatever means to end this world. And they will go through everything that you have trying to find a way to get to you. That is why you are here, the only real safe haven you have. You could say that this is your new home, since your life is ours as well as long as you live. Your capture means our deaths just as much as anyone else alive. Of course, you will live in comfort here.”

He noticed her nursing her arm now, and although she stood to excuse herself he stood as well to trail. As her legs gave out he scooped her up before she could fall, and his eyes immediately went to her arm. “Damn it, she’s injured.” He carried her out, immediately calling for Raphael to join him. It was several rooms down that she was laid down, and a ritual took place while she was unconscious.

She would find herself waking several hours later at the earliest, her arm healed and whatever Faye magic removed from her body, lying in her bed. The lights would be out, and the door closed. The house was still deathly quiet.

In her unconscious state Maddy dreamed, but not of things she normally would have. In fact most of it she couldn't make out. One persistent thing in her dream though was Alexander. The only part to come back with her when she woke, was this fact. In the silence of the house her eyes fluttered open. She was in the room they gave her, nestled into the bed. The drapery drawn to keep the warmth inside. Moments passed before she remembered how she must have gotten here. Eyes flashed to her arm, the mark was gone, there wasn't even a single trace of it.

With there being no windows to look out of, Maddy had no clue what time it was. She couldn't even gauge how long she had been asleep. When she emerged from the heavy drapes covering her bed, she saw a familiar object set off in the corner. It was one her own suitcases from home. She sighed a little with relief as she approached the object. Digging through it she was glad to see they were able to come back with quite a few personal things. Taking the silent and alone time she carried the bag into the bathroom. Freshening herself up and getting dressed before she once again went to explore.

It was around midday, a little past 1 or 2 in the afternoon, so the house was mostly dead. Even if it wasn’t, Alex was in a more healing state of rest, binding the Faye magick that was bound in her arm from the attack. It was difficult business even for him, because it was invasive stuff, a different kin of magic than what his brothers and himself used, but not completely foreign. Still, he would be out for a while yet. The other brothers were sleeping, locked away in their rooms, away from prying eyes.

There was yet one permanent member of the household that was awake and roaming. Trish was robed up, but her hood was down, black hair spilling over in messy strands as she seemed to move with purpose through the hallways. That was, at least, until she ran into Maddy. “Oh, it’s you!” She made a beeline to the other woman, doing a quick examination of her before smiling, head tilting slightly. “It’s good to see you in one piece, considering the circumstances. Those asshole Faye are a mess to deal with, but you seem to have come through it rather well.”
