***THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS, IGNORE IT***

Post 1 will be the tag explanation and backstory for the multiverse the roleplay is set in.

Dat taglist! Allow me to explain and please forgive approximate timelines in terms of realism. (it's high fantasy people!)

Brief synopsis to explain tag-list: Angels/Demons were the first civilized race and they existed in Heaven and Hell as stewards and destroyers of all existence. All other life existed without sapient thought and was limited to survival instinct. The Hells and the Heavens went to war together to close a cross-dimensional well into the Unformed Void created by the Triplicate. The combined forces of Heaven and Hell were able to seal the Conduit, but only by pulling the Heavens crashing down onto the Hells. This event is known as the Shattering, a cosmic event so significant it thawed the primordial ice that had held life and thought hostage. The Shattering broke Heaven into Seven planes of reality held together only by the wills of the Archangels and the Hells into Nine dimensions bound by the Cursed Thrones. This roleplay is set 11,000 years after the shattering. Human life and civilization on Earth is in it's medieval period. (In the literary sense.) The Heavens and Hells have entered into a ceasefire, it's terms established in the "Concordance of Balance."

Even with counter measures in place such as the Concordance otherworldly beings still view Earth as their hunting grounds and a source for endless amusement. The greatest empire humanity has ever seen is collapsing at the seams. Foreign kingdoms see the weakness of the empire and know the time to strike is coming.

Now here's an intro to the Multiverse.
------
In the beginning nothing and everything existed simultaneously as the Unformed Void. It's energies swirled together into the Protogods, conceptualized into existence and simultaneous divergence.Countless bizarre entities manifesting esoteric wills within the infinite, limitless potential which began roaming the maelstrom of possibility as forces of creation and destruction without purpose or reason. Making and unmaking, embroiled in an ever-shifting, unceasing struggle for dominance of the primordial forces of reality these beings have existed since the dawn of time.

Eventually one such force of wills was expelled from this chaos and sparked the birth of a Multiverse. This was not the beginning, but another branch added to an endless tree. Alone and isolated from the perpetual chaos of the Void, the lone Protogod's will fractured along fault lines of balance. From one being came two; a great creator to shape life and make worlds and a great destroyer to ensure that all made would be unmade and all would perish. The Great Creator birthed heaven to steward life and the Great Destroyer forged Hell to ensure all would fall to ruin. Elsewhere in creation the will and strength of these beings mixed and from such unions Limbo, the Astral, and Material Planes took form.

Drained from these exertions the Great Creator and Great Destroyer turned their energies to crafting life to inhabit the desolate shells that had been created before they expired. The beings shaped by the Creator's hand were the angels, his children that would fill the heavens with light and watch over all he had made. Hate and scorn gave rise to the first nine Infernal Lineages, made of the Destroyer's blood and desire. These beings were crafted to be the antithesis of Heaven. The Great Creator paid no mind to the dark spaces of creation, content with his work...However the Destroyer could not tolerate the empty silence and so the Shadowborn were crafted to bring life and form to the darkness.

Unstable and deteriorating the Great Creator divided his essence and bestowed it upon his first seven creations, crowning them harbingers of his will. Meanwhile the flames of the Destroyer had cooled to embers, knowing time was short the Destroyer crafted the nine cursed Thrones to forever contain the remnants of his power and malice and to give his offspring a means to serve their purpose. Exhausted and cold, the coals of the Destroyer became Death and waited hungrily for dead and the warmth of their souls.

Residual essence, lingering power from the Creator and Destroyer mixed and mingled throughout the cosmos. From these mixed energies all other races were born and life spread to the empty planes of existence. Most important among these creations were the humans. In life humans are meek and insignificant (save a few who learn to use the potential of their souls). But in death human souls are the most valuable commodity. The most wicked of the dead find themselves reborn as demons, the noble reincarnated as angels. The rest become nothing more than a source of power to be fought over by the Heavens, the the Hells and the various beings of Limbo.

11,000 years ago the Heavens and the Hells were cast into a war for the survival of all creation. The end of this war thawed out the frigid ice that had held life paralyzed and allowed human civilization to flourish. ((Cop out ending I know, but this is an edit of a previously written piece!)

What do you people think?

This setting is being used on another roleplay board and has been around in various incarnations since 2004. But that Genesis story was crafted by myself and a friend over the course of the last year. I'm pretty proud of it!

Post 2: Explanation of Planes and races:

The Prime Material Plane is the dimension in which all things and places that are not of Hell, Heaven, or Limbo. The Prime Material Plane is considered no man's land as it is the watershed through which all souls flow to the other Planes. Humans in this roleplay are the only sentient creature native to the Prime Material Plane.

The Hells are divided into Nine separate Hells: Terminus, Pride, Greed, Envy, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust, Wrath, and The Ninth. Terminus is the gaping maw of the Hells and is home to the Throne of Souls. The Throne of Souls draws all mortal souls that have not been sheltered by the Light of the Heavens. The remaining Thrones pull away those souls that resonate most with their corresponding sin. The Ninth is the final Hell, shaped by the power of the Ninth Throne and serves as a meeting place for the Council of Nine, the governing body that ensures some semblance of cooperation between the Hells.
