Puppy Charming 101 [Isabelle x citizenanon]

"That was actually what I was unsure about." James clarified, "I did not think it was anything to be concerned over, but I just did not understand your wording." He smiled at her and reached out to lightly cup her cheek with his hand, "It would seem that both of us were a bit blind and just happy we found each other at all, let alone trying to make anything more of it. I do hope we can stop being silly about it and really build our relationship now." He lightly stroked her cheek, "Now just because you are looking out for me, a big, bad guardian Angel Sophie, does not mean you have to hide or try to spare my feelings about anything. We will support each other and be stronger together than as either of us alone."

James winked at her, "Now, we have delicious breakfast in front of us for the second time today, I know you have to be hungry, Sophie. Let's dig in, yeah?"

The two of them brunched, and upon paying they realized they had enough money left over for a boat ride. The young couple spent the rest of the afternoon rowing their way across the lake, feeding the ducks as James had in mind, and frolicking in the flower beds. Sophie was very well suited to flowers, as she did keep them well at home. It wasn't really noted until James saw how lovingly she handled the roses which bloomed. Her hands gently cupping them, and she leaned in for a little sniff. She was well suited to flower gardens. Sophie delighted in making small recordings of their fun, and even let James be a camera man too. He even got his cameo! Explaining his feelings towards her, and how happy he was.

Once he dropped her off, Sophie had tea with her parents, before rushing off to get "homework" done.

Sunday afternoon, it was posted online. A video explaining to her fans her new relationship. It even touched on James' reasons for leaving his previous girlfriend, but not in a lewd way. Erica's name was never mentioned. But it was also never mentioned who exactly followed little Sophie's series.

Monday came, and as always, Sophie walked to school. Her hands held onto the straps of her book bag, ivory scarf bundled about her neck. She wore a burgundy blazer and a grey pleated skirt, as well as long black stockings, and cute little ankle boots. She pushed through the door, and entered the school. Her little feet padded along, taking her to the cafeteria where James and his friends usually met. She sat at their designated table, and awaited the arrival of everyone.

Monday came bright and early for James. There was a unsteady truce between him and his father kept in place only by the fact that the two did not speak to each other and had not yet said anything about it. He hardly spoke to his mother either and only saw them at meal times when he was not already out wher he would not have to see them. James had watched the video of he and Sophie the night before when it had been posted and she did a wonderful job of it as she did with most of the things she tried her hand at.

James wore the bruise on his cheek and eye without worrying about what anyone might think about it. He would explain it away if need be, but he doubted that many people would even bother to ask about it. He moved on through the morning exercises as he always did and walked into the school building thirty minutes early and headed towards the cafeteria. When he walked through the doors, he spotted Sophie in her usual spot and could not help but smile. He crossed the room while some people looked at him. Most kept on with what they were doing. He leaned down and kissed Sophie halfway on the lips before sitting next to her.

"Morning, Sophie." James greeted, "I saw your video last night. Wonderful as always. Seemed to be pretty popular with your fans."

It was still pretty early and the jocks tended to be a lazy lot in the morning so they would have a few more minutes alone.

Sophie looked rather pensive, as she sat alone at the oval orange table. Her ear twitched, hearing the chair beside her move. Sophie instinctively looked over, expecting one of the various sports club members to show up. The moment her eyes fell onto James' handsome face, Sophie lit up like a candle. Her eyes sparkling, mouth lifted into a happy smile, and her adorable pink cheeks. How bashful she was now, adverting her eyes to her hands which played with each other in her lap, in comparison to the other day they spent together. She shook her head a little, deflecting the compliment, as any other polite girl should do. Sophie's sweet voice sounded,
"Oh, well, it is only any good because you were mostly in it..."
She looked to him, and gave a small smile.
"I... I know you're concerned about keeping up appearances, what with your parents and all... but... is it okay for us to be... affectionate? So soon after your break up?"

James thought about the question for a moment as if considering the ramifications about their relationship. True, under some circumstances, it would be bad to be so openly affectionate, but really with them, he did not care. They did nothing wrong and he had undeniable proof of Erica's actions that night. Nobody of any real importance would call them into question.

"I'm not going to hide it, Sophie." James smiled, "But we can keep it a little low key. Just kisses on the cheek and holding hands for now if you'd like." James was more worried about her sensibilities than what the school thought. Just as he finished speaking, a backpack was dropped heavily on the table and a body fell into a chair across from the pair of them. James glanced up. It was Jarold. James nodded to him in greeting and reached under the table to take Sophie's hand with his own.

"So you two are the talk of the school right now. Well, the talk of the parts that aren't afraid to come and sit by you anyway." Jarold pulled an apple from his pocket and split it in two using just his hands, "Something about you two being a couple and frolicking in a field of flowers?" Jarold glanced back and forth between the pair, "Something going on with you two?"

"A-ah....!"

Wheezed Sophie. Her face as pale as a bed sheet, and her nearly about to pop out of her face. But this instance did not last long. Colour sprang back up in her cheeks, so much so that nearly she had been painted by a rainbow! But still, the apples of her face were as red as a rose. She bit her lip, her eyes darting down to James' hand. She gave it a squeeze, as she was at a loss of words. The strong and noble Sophie who had came to call the other day, had been replaced by the timid one James loved so much. She whispered softly to James, "C-could you tell him..? I-I-I can't seem to find the words.."

James nodded to Sophie. He could see how embarrassed she was to have it brought up like it was in public. "Of course." He turned his attention back to Jarold, "From what you're saying, the rumors are pretty much accurate. Sophie and I got together as a couple this weekend and had our first date at the park and manor. I even showed up in her v-log video to talk about it with her."

Jarold nodded along, "Sounds about right. Erica isn't going to be too happy to hear that, word has it she's going to try and apologize. She won't be happy that you've moved on. Even if it was a long time coming." Jarold grinned, "Speaking of, Erica's not going to be here today. Something about a doctor visit to have her nose looked at. Seems it actually is broken."

Sophie's hand squeezed James' even harder at the mention of Erica's nose. She didn't mean to break it... Not really, but it wasn't like the didn't deserve it! She did! But... not intentionally... Sophie shivered, thinking over Erica in this situation, hoping that it really wouldn't cause alarm. With a sigh, Sophie faced her long time friend, a few tears dripping down her cheeks, "I... I didn't mean to break it..."

Jarold had the good sense to look a little apologetic as he upset Sophie like he did. James moved his hand from hers and draped his arm over her shoulders and pulled her against him before using his free hand to brush the tears from her cheeks. "It's okay, Sophie." To James, it really, really was. "It happens, you didn't mean to break anything, but it's okay. Erica is going to be fine. She'll just have to go to the doctor. That's it. Besides, it looked awesome and you did it for me."

"For what it's worth, you two look good together." Jarold was surprisingly gentle with Sophie, "I think you two will be good. Now. Different subject."

Jarold cocked his head to the side, "James, the hell did you do to your face?"

Sophie sniffed, pulling a handkerchief out from her school bag. She blotted away any dampness, before looking to James with those round, innocent, doe eyes. "You don't think she'll mind? She did cross you... which is something I could never forgive," Sophie held onto his hands, blinking softly. It was amazing how madly in love she was with James, and how easily she conveyed it. For a sixteen year old girl, she was ever so romantic...

The attention was pulled back to Jarold, as he admitted they made a good couple. Sophie smiled softly. Accepting the apology, but she did not quite like where Jarold's alligence lay. Regardless, she wore a cheery smile, "Ah! James had a bit of a tumble when we were at the park. He was getting out of the row boat, but we hadn't tied it up properly, so he slipped, and fell, hitting his face."

Sophie leaned up and kissed his swollen cheek ever so lightly.
"I've grown fond of it... It's like he is a mobster!"

James made a note to remember that as their cover story. It would likely come up again sometime that day. "Oh, I'm sure Erica will mind, but don't let that bother you, Sophie. Your reaction was warranted and nothing bad is going to come of it." He smiled at the kiss while Jarold just laughed.

"A tumble, huh? It's a good thing he's got the grace under fire thing going on when playing football. Not sure the coach would keep him in if he took a tumble out there. Better get it all out before we play again." Jarold teased and began to eat his apple. Over time, several more teammates and their friends filtered into the room and James brought them up to speed on his new relationship and the bruising on his cheek. He even managed to stick close tot he cover story that Sophie had concocted on the spot. Soon enough, the whole team would know about it.

Soon it was time for everyone to get up and head to class. sadly, it was one of the few classes that James did not share with Sophie so they would have to go their separate ways for a bit and meet up at lunch.

Ooh, how he teased. Did Jarold suspect another reason for his friend's bruising? Perhaps the little Sophie was a strict dominatrix in the bedroom, delighting in other's pain? One couldn't put it past her after she broke a girl's nose with a single blow. Annnnd delivered a nasty one liner too. Sophie did hint that she liked him looking like a mobster, and with her strict religious rules, maybe she did belong to an under ground group of thugs.

Buuuuuut! It hard seemed likely, as Sophie nearly hid her face behind James' arm as introduced all of his friends to the idea that SHE were dating him. Sophie felt like a peasant marrying a wealthy prince. It was almost too real to be true! He could feel her shake from embarrassment. When she did poke her head out, her face was as red as his leathermen's jacket. Her brows furrowed, her eyes large and dewy, and her lips twisted into a pout. That only made his friends remark more, patting him on the back in congratulations. Sophie nearly died!!

The warning bell rang, notifying the students to get to class. James held Sophie's hand, and walked her to her science class. The entire time she hid behind her books. It seemed so much more risqué to be holding his hands now than it did in the park.

Upon parting, James brushed her bangs to the side. Leaning down he placed a kiss on her forehead. His fixed her hair, while he offered kind words. Sophie gave a meek smile, on the verge of tears from his generosity, but she expressed her gratitude with a simple, "Of course, James,"

With that, he headed off to his class. Sophie let out a little sigh of content, waving him off, like the dumb struck girl that she was.

She didn't snap out of it until she felt a huge shadow fall on her. Sophie looked back over her shoulder at a very tall, very muscular, strong jawed, high pony tail wearing girl. She gulped softly, obviously intimidated by the girl's size. Sophie rose her hand up and gave a small wave. "H-h-hi!" She squeaked.

Greta grunted, her eyes narrowing, before her own mitt-of -a-fist collided with Sophie's, in an attempt at a high five, "I saw that you punched that Erica girl! Nice one!! It's good to see girls stand up for themselves."

James always enjoyed his time walking with Sophie in between classes when he could. They had a couple that were apart, so he would probably not see her until lunch when they would eat together in the cafeteria or maybe outside to enjoy the last few days of fall. It was rather nice out... or should be at any rate. He missed the large girl, Greta, congratulating Sophie on a job well done, but he would have smiled had he seen it.

In his own class, things moved as normal. Several people spoke to him and even a couple people that he never talked to came up to him to congratulate him on dating Sophie. One girl that talked to him was even wearing cat ears. A bit of an odd girl, but very nice and polite. James just smiled and nodded along before making small talk about the class with them. Soon the bell rang and everyone scurried to their usual position. The teacher, a portly man who had attended the highschool in his own youth began to speak on why World War I happened.

Two classes and hours later, James emerged from his studious slumber and made his way down the hall towards the cafeteria where he could meet up with Sophie. He actually paused and leaned against the wall near an intersection so that he could intercept Sophie on the way and walk with her a bit. As he was waiting, one of Erica's friends popped into his field of view out of nowhere.

"So, like. Erica is out right now, 'cause that girl you keep dragging around punched her." Pauline's voice would have been nice had she not been screeching at him, "You got to stop hanging out with her, James. She's bad for you."

James simply stood there with his arms crossed and looked at Pauline with a quizzical look on his face. "Okay, I'll bite. How is Sophie supposed to be bad for me, Pauline? After all, cheating is about as 'bad' for someone as you can get."

"She's made you change, James. You're, like, always with her and not spending enough time with the rest of your friends. And poor Erica missed you. That's why she did what she did. She made a mistake and is sorry, you know." James fought the urge to roll his eyes, "I mean, what was she supposed to do? With a big hunk of man like you always teasing her."

Just what had Erica been saying about him?

"Look, Pauline, it really doesn't matter. Erica and I are done and I'm quite happy with Sophie. Thanks."

"Oh, please. Little church girl doesn't know how to treat a man. She's so innocent, probably won't even kiss you until you're married." Pauline snapped back at him.

Paulina felt a light tapping on her shoulder. There stood Sophie, with Greta behind her. Sophie was wearing sunglasses, her bangs styled off to the side, her sleeves rolled up, tie loosened, with her blazer tied about her waist. Her hands came to her hips, as she arched a brow at the girl. A lollipop sticking out of her mouth. "Wether we kiss or not is no concern of yours or anyone else." Sophie rolled the lollipop around her mouth, before pulling it out, "Saying rude things on the other hand, well," she sneered, "... you are entitled to free speech, but that makes me entitled to a rebuttal." With that, she pushed her lollipop in to the hanging jaw of the girl, "... I hope that'll make you a little sweeter,"

James had not seen Sophie approach, but when she made her appearance, his eyes were immediately drawn to Greta behind her. He knew Great in passing. She was on the wrestling team and just as good, if not better than many of the boys on the team. He respected her for her abilities, but had never really spoken with her. When his attention moved back to Sophie, his sweet, innocent Sophie was putting her lollipop in Pauline's mouth before dropping a hollywood style one liner that would have left Stalone happy.

Since when did Sophie walk around with lollipops and when did she start hanging out with Greta?

Pauline spit the lollipop out and sputtered as she was confronted by Sophie. Any retort was stopped short by Greta behind Sophie. All the cheerleaders and volleyball girls know about Greta. There was even a bet about if she was a boy or girl.

"I... you..." Pauline turned back to James. "Just wait, you'll see." Pauline turned back to Sophie and was about to say something before thinking better of it and storming off.

James was bemused by the whole situation. Sophie riding in with the cavalry was just something he was not accustomed to.

"Well, Sophie, Greta... your timing was perfect, can I escort you two to lunch?" James asked and offered his arms to the two former-outcasts.

Sophie automatically spun around to face Greta. Her hands formed into fists, as she looked up to her new friend, "How was that? Did I do good??" A huge smile on her face as her sunglasses slipped off her nose, her hair falling out of the bobby pin to cover her forehead again.

"Heck yeah!" Exclaimed Greta, coming in for a high five. Sophie came just short of it, having to jump a few times, swatting the air, before successfully touching palm to palm.

"Yaaaaay!!!" Squealed Sophie in delight.
Greta took back her sunglasses, before giving her a thumbs up, "You fill the role better when you're properly motivated Sophie."

The two girls were as giddy as foals. Sophie turned to face James, "Was I 'bad', 'ass', James???" There was that innocence he loved to say, sparkling away. When he offered his arm, her face turned a bit pink. She could interlock arms with him in public too?! She took his arm, and have it an affectionate nuzzle, before explaining,
"So, Mrs. Laycock introduced the school musical this year. Greta said that I should try out for the lead role, after seeing the whole punching thing..."

James could not help but be a bit surprised by the complete change in demeanor. That had all been an act?

"I have to say, after seeing that, I agree with Greta." James chuckled, "Had me one-hundred percent convinced. Total badass." It appeared that Sophie had made yet another friend in Greta. He was glad for her as there were times when James could not be near Sophie and it would appear that Greta could. James began walking Sophie towards the cafeteria, "You can sit with us if you like, Greta. I know we've met, but I'd like to get to know Sophie's new friend."

The cafeteria was mostly full by the time they arrived since they had the brief confrontation to deal with. James settled Sophie in at the table before he joined the line to get his own food. One of the school's mystery meat hamburgers and day old fries seemed to be on the menu. Greta was behind him, but James did not pay attention to what she picked up. He grabbed an apple and brownie before heading back to the table.

"So, Sophie, did you know that you had fans here in school?" James inquired as he sat down next to her. "I have some in my European History class. Heavy set guy with glasses who has a fondness for flannel and a girl with cat ears. They're nice."

Sophie was mid bite when James planted the bomb on her. Slowly, her eyes began to grow wide as the clock ticked downwards. Her teeth sunk into the soft bread, slicing through the cucumber, ham, and cheese. A large slice of tomato already popping out from the butt-end of her sandwich, her cheeks trying to match its shade. She had---FANS?!?! HERE?!?!?! Sophie couldn't help but swallow that bite whole! She nearly gasped as she reached for her water, taking a large gulp. Greta pat her on her back,
"Sophie, are you ok?"

After a moment, Sophie looked to James from her straight cut bangs, her body trembling softly. "R-really?? I... I had no idea" There she was, sitting beside him in her hot-mess fashion. One sock pulled up to her knee, the other having slipped down. Her shirt untucked, her sleeves folded in two different styles. Cheeks a bright colour, and her hair a little dazzled from the day's excitement. His little, sweet, timid, awkward mess. And there were students here who clearly supported their relationship. Sophie fumbled with her napkin, "T-that's... great... I suppose,"

James took in Sophie's surprise and mentally cursed. He certainly could have handled that better and should have known that she would have been surprised by it. James placed a calming hand on her knee. Not her thight or anything higher, but safely on her knee and gave it a gentle squeeze, hoping to help her calm down a bit.

"Yeah, Sophie. It's great." James agreed softly, "I bet they like your videos and other stuff you vlog about." They had come to him after seeing their video after all, "Just means that you've got other friends out here you just haven't met yet. I can introduce you to them later on if you like and sit with you while you talk to them." James offered gently in an attempt to offer his support. He gave her knee another gentle squeeze before moving his hand away and back to the top of the table.
