Pete had never planned this kind of hell for his worst enemy. To be in this situation was pure torture. Everyday he had to sit and watch the world pass him by while he lay there. His doctor, an old fogey who seemed to take long stretches to nap in his office when he should have been researching how to help his patients, told his parents that Pete was in a vegetative state.

He had been this way for three years now and his parents had held onto the belief that he could recover. The truth however was that Pete was struck by a car on his way to his senior prom and ever since he had been awake but unable to move. People even had to open and close his eyes for him. His folks had visited constantly at first but then the bills piled up and work had to commence. They left the tv on for him occasionally a good movie would come on but mostly cheesy soaps during the day.

Three years after his accident he heard his door open and slam shut. He couldn't see anything but where his eyes were pointed so all he could hear was the quiet sobs of someone trying desperately and failing not to cry. If he could roll his eyes he would. He had been here long enough to know the sound of a first year med student when he heard it.

Annalee had absolutely had enough of this, she thought angrily. Yes, she worked at the hospital. Yes, she was studying to become a doctor. What she had not signed up for was the constant sexual harassment she'd had to endure while working here. It was beyond driving her crazy.

The doctor who was supposed to be the man she looked up to, her "mentor" he constantly groped her, and told her never to tell a soul, or he'd slip her a deadly dose of an anesthetic. He even called her with threatening messages on her cell-phone, lewd words that she hated, describing how he wanted to sleep with her, (though he used the foul language.) She couldn't leave the hospital, because she needed this job, had bills to pay, etc. She had to put up with it. Sometimes she just wished she could stab the doctor, but that would only land her in prison.

Annalee didn't have the courage to tell someone what was happening. He'd just done it again, and she'd rushed from the elevator, to the nearest room she could find, pushing the door open then shut it right back, in case he'd been following her. Tears fell from her eyes as her whole body shook in anger. She looked to the patient in this room, a man who she recognized as one of their comatose patients. She pulled up a chair next to him, needing to talk to someone, even if he couldn't hear her. "Hey, Pete," she said quietly, recalling his first name, as she wiped the tears away, even though others followed.

'Hey Doctor' he thought lamely. She had been in his room a few times and based on the tear stained sob ridden confessions he guessed that one of the hob nobs was getting a little frisky. She would be close to him in age he guessed, based on the sound of her voice. She had never stepped in front of him so he had no idea as to what she looked like. She sounded pretty in any case.

There were few things that Pete hated. The abuse of power, hurting people, and people who rule by fear. This grabby doc seemed to fit all three. Pete wished he could choke slam that douche through a window. Sadly there would be no choke slamming....ever.

So Pete did what he could he would listen. She seemed like a great girl, smart, loves to help other, and even funny when she wasn't upset. He wanted to hold her and give her chocolate and say "Ill take care of it" or "let's watch your favorite movie". Anything but lie there impotently. She seemed to calm down and recover herself. She thanked him for listening and let herself out.

Pete wanted to scream in frustration. He strained with all his will. Raging at his immobility. He pushed and pushed with all his might and then sprang up into sitting. He looked down at his hands and marveled at the way his fingers moved. THEY MOVED!! He wiggled his toes and then shakily he stepped off the bed. He took a few hesitant steps. Then a few more then he was through the doorway and walking down the hall. He came upon a nurse, Betty he thought looking at the rings on her hands. He walked up to her.
"Betty it's me!" He smiled "I've no idea why or how but I'm out of the coma!" There was no response. She kept on walking and didn't even look up from her pile of papers. "Hello?!" He shouted. He walked quickly back into his room and looked in his bed. "Aw Crap!" He shouted that and many other such expletives as he looked on the view of his body hooked into machines that slowly beeped and kept his sorry carcass living.

Annalee stayed for a bit, not talking to Pete too much this time, though she'd talked to him often enough before today, telling her his problems. He'd been a lifeline to her, like a diary she could pour her heart out to. Even though she knew he couldn't hear a word she'd said to him, it made her feel better. She left his room, and stood in the hall a moment, before going to the nurse's locker room, intending to change and get ready for the trip home. As she entered it, she almost turned around to go right back out, but her problem caught her arm, squeezing it painfully as he pulled her back in.

"Where do you think you're going, my sweet?" Paul the doctor, or arse-in-charge as she referred to him, asked her as he grabbed her ass, which repulsed her.

"I'm not your sweet anything," Annalee hissed, trying to push him away, as she always did, but this time he seemed extra angry, because he slapped her face, hard. She was knocked back slightly by the strength of his smack.

"Now, what were you saying?" He asked, with a sickening smile. "I think it's about time we took this to the next level." He removed his white doctor's coat, and started unzipping his pants. She knew what that meant. He'd never gone this far before. Why the sudden change? She wished someone would save me, but she wasn't foolish enough to think anyone would. He moved towards her, and she backed away, hitting a wall. He pushed her shoulders until she was forced to her knees in front of him, as he pulled his pants down. She closed my eyes, praying for someone to help her.

Pete heard the scream from down the hall. He was exploring the hospital again. He was amazed at connecting the voices with faces. He thought being incorporeal would drive him crazy but he realized that he may already be crazy from his previous immobile existence. He was so gratefull he could move around that it didn't matter if he was invisible.

He concentrated hard and whooshed back into his room. He was still there but Annalee was there too with none other than dr. Paul. He was unstrapping his belt and unzipping. Pete was waving his arms through Paul and screaming as loud as he could. "You mother fucker! Stay away from her." Paul advanced slowly like a predator approaching his prey. Pete looked around for something. Anything that could stop him. He took a deep breath and did the only thing that felt natural. He jumped at Paul in a drop kick.

Everything went black around him and he saw in a spot light in front of him sat Paul. Pete ran up and kicked hard in his smug rapers face. It connected! He kept kicking the screaming mewling man untill he was a bloody mess. Then he spit on him and turned around. The blackness still surrounded him. He looked up at the light and then felt himself lift up and what felt like out.

He stood where he was before and everything came back in a rush. Light and sound peirced his senses, or his perceptions? Did he even have senses anymore? Paul was lying in a drooling heap on the floor. Annalee was sobbing in a ball of her own. What had he just done? He knelt in front of her and reached his insubstantial hand out to stroke her face. It passed through it and she shivered slightly. "Don't worry". He told her out loud even though he knew she couldn't hear. Everything will be fine now." He sat down next to her and like he usually did he listened to her quiet sobs. This time though he felt a little satisfaction that this would be that last time He would touch anything again much less Annalee.
