"Then what are we," She had almost forgotten about the war that raged on out side the walls. Or maybe it was over, she had long lost count of how may days she had been in this place. Playing these games that she didn't want to play anymore. Thinking back to how calmly he stated they where not enemies, at the same time they where not friends. Nothing more then a boy and it play thing... She had played along to get answers but now they seemed meaningless, she wasn't getting out of here. Eyes closing as he touched her, "I don't want to play anymore Please I don't want to play these games anymore."

"You are my Little Bird, and I am your keeper," he answered her softly, even as she went back into her shocked ramblings. He did not touch her again, pulling his hand away, leaving the darkness as its own barrier between himself and the marine. A minute passed, then two. Silence reigned from the darkness.

Then, another small flame, another match being struck. It came up again, the captain lighting another smoke, his voice calling out, "Want one?"

The silence was both welcomed and dreaded. Not knowing what he was planning or thinking yet at the same time she could not help but close her eyes. Maybe even start to drift away back into sleep, only to be waken a few moments later by the sight of that new flame. Letting her know she had not even closed her eyes. The marine watching the flame float in the darkness as it came to rest of the officer's cigarette. A sense of dread running threw her body as her hand reached up to feel at the burn on her fore head. It stung as her fingers ran over it, wondering if he planned to do the same with this one. That was until he offered her one.

A part of her wanted to take it, she needed a smoke. However, something told her it would be better not to, "No. Thank you."

Head digging more into the bed under her, one of her hands moving slowly threw the darkness to feel the mere inches between her and the edge of the bed. Letting it hand there for a minute. Thinking about what few words the officer wanted to hear and what would be waiting for her once she did. It seemed that every choice she made dug the whole she was in just that more deeper. She began to think no matter what she did or the choice she made it was the wrong one. It felt like she was chasing her tail....getting no where fast. Finally just saying what was on her mine, "I don't know what to do...."

His hand reached down, resting on top of hers on the edge of the bed. His fingers laced between hers, curling up under her palm, holding her hand firmly. He pulled on it slowly, rising the hand off the bed, swinging it out into the darkness just at the end of her reach, arm extended outwards. He turned his hand slowly, twisting at her arm without really torquing it, no pain involved as he turned it so the wrist was pointed upwards. He took a slow drag on the light cigarette, holding it in for just a short moment before blowing the smoke out across her upturned wrist and forearm.

"When it comes down to it Little Bird, there's just one thing you have to answer now," his voice drifted off, talking slowly, as though he was formulating his words right on the tip of his tongue. "In the end, do you trust me?"

He would be able to feel her jump as soon as he laced his fingers between hers. Yet, she did not pull away like she normally would have. Letting him pull her arm to where he wanted it, her body clearly waiting for him to do something. The feeling of smoke against her skin felt erotic yet sent a wave of fear threw the marine. Waiting for him to do the same thing to her arm that he did to her forehead. But it never came. Instead of putting the smoke out on her arm, his words cut threw the darkness.

This question caught her off guard, but that had not be hard as of late. Her time here had not been the best, and hunger was starting to set in....more because she had only ate once while she was here. She could have ate twice but the drugs that had been in her system when her second meal was brought to her had the marine against eating. Yet this new question, it had her really thinking. Did she trust him, this was a torn answer. Some days maybe, others maybe not. He had kept her safe, yet he had been the main source of her problems. He treated her wounds as well as he made his own upon her flesh. Thinking quietly about her answer, trying to finger out the worse of the two. But an answer would come, even if it was a little shaky, "I trust you..." she bit her lower lip some before slowly adding, "Sir."

Another smokey breath came out, blowing across her forearm, from wrist to the crook. His hand squeezed hers in the darkness, his lips brushed against her wrist, planting a small, soft kiss upon her skin in the darkness. He drew back up, pulling gently on her arm, trying to coax her up and out, getting her face out of the bed, pulling her upright, a scraping sound coming from out in the room.

"You must be hungry, Little Bird. Come, sit up," his voice was quiet, barely more than a whisper when it reached her ears. His tone was soft, gentle. The smoke from his lit cigarette was wafting towards her. "Trust me Little Bird, and taste the fruits of your good behavior."

The Marine's fingers curled up around his as he squeezed her hand, body leaning back some as she felt the kiss on her wrist. Yet as time passed on and she felt the officer start to pull and coax her from that spot on the bed the girl could not help but follow. The soldier using her free hand to grasp at the sheet that was wrapped around her body as she let her body slowly inch toward the edge of the bed. One leg moving to the floor as she sat up and finally stood. Taking in every sound, and touch. The floor cold on her feat as the soldier followed the officer's voice. Doing what his whispers asked of her, even if his soft and gentle tone cough her off guard. The smell of cigarette smoke making her cough some after all she was not use to the smell as of yet.

The captain let his fingers slip out of her grasp, releasing her hand. Another scraping sound rang out, and two footsteps, seeming to drift away from the marine and her bed. After 5 seconds two sharp sounds broke out in the darkness, clapping. The lights came on, sudden and harsh from the flourescents above. A single 4 foot long track light, encased in hard plastic. The room was small, a true cell only eight foot by eight foot by eight foot. Poored concrete walls, without decoration or paint, the small bed crammed against the wall, the chain which lead to the marine's neck, with just enough slack to keep the far wall from the bed out of reach. A chair was in front of her, and a small metal table, a foot and a half round, four steel legs, standing up 3 feet. On that table was a covered plate, with a heavy brown plastic dome over the top of it. The captain stood there, smoke in his mouth, a pair of night vision goggles on his forehead. He smiled, gesturing casually towards the plate.

"Eat Little Bird."

The sheet was still wrapped around her when the lights came on, blinding her for a moment which almost made her almost drop the sheet. Slowly opening her eyes to look around the room and the huge step backwards that she had taken. The small room, the collar and chain that held to one side of it, the metal table before her. It did not take her long to sit back down on the side of the bed and slowly lifted the brown plastic lid off the plate. The marine's eyes never leaving it as the eggs and other food came into view. A small smile playing across her lips before fading away and started to eat. Not another word leaving her lips until she was done.
