Seven Years of Magic

Minding her own business while wandering the hallways of Hogwarts with her nose deeply buried within the ancient text of The History of Magic, one of Ravenclaw's brightest females continued to avoid the social circle, including the spreading knowledge obtained through gossip.

Happening to find the busied Ravenclaw in the left wing, a fellow student approached her with a large smile plastered across his freckled features.

"Have you ever taken your attention away from a textbook long enough to acknowledge the real world?" Charles inquired, his curly locks of brown folding behind both ears.

The girl sighed heavily, her shoulders shrugging in distress.

"I'm able to divert attention towards events I deem worthy of my focus," she argued.

"Oh come on Kailey," he stressed firmly. "You're the definition of anti-social!"

"Anti-Social: a self destructive nature that causes separation between an individual and society," Kailey quoted off memory.

Charles surrendered to his friend's brash attitude. Together they walked down the hallways towards first period. While Charles easily towered over Kailey's slender 5'0 frame, he wasn't the one with violently intimidating eyes of sapphire.

Suffering through the physical abuse at Professor Snape's hand wasn't anything new for the two Ravenclaws. It's a common occurrence ever since Charles and Kailey were awarded early graduation by Dumbledore, though they both declined the offer.

At only sixteen, Kailey wasn't prepared to leave Hogwarts just yet. Her adoptive family back in London couldn't sustain themselves, much less the additional weight of another. With no other choices available, Kailey chose to remain at Hogwarts till her eighteen birthday, carrying the responsibility of extra studies just to keep her entertained.

Kailey's report records are phenomenal, putting Hermione Granger's grades to sheer shame. Though naturally talented and intelligent, Kailey doesn't express any joy towards her studies. She hasn't since first year.

Coming from a Pure-Blood family, though given up for adoption at birth and being welcomed by Muggles...Kailey hasn't always lived a comfortable life. She grew up without a true identity. Her adoptive parents are kind and loving, though they never quite understand their daughter.

Class ended soon...thankfully.

"Perhaps if you were actually an adequate teacher you're students might be able to process your requests more efficiently..." Kailey scolded, avoiding Snape's hand as she hurried towards the door.

"Of course," Kailey accepted Hermione's request.

She wasn't actually in the mood for conversation at the moment, though it would have been blatantly rude to just ignore the Gryffindor.

"How can I assist you, Granger?"

Kailey spoke to strangers, basically anyone aside from Charles, by their surname. Personal attachments are foreign to Kailey and always have been since her youth.

While Kailey troubled herself with Hermione, her best friend, Charles, carried on down the hall. Accidentally colliding into the group of men headed towards Defense Against the Dark Arts.

He apologized, "Sorry."

"Um," Kailey studied the book presented to her with curious eyes. "Okay?"

She wasn't entirely sure why Professor Vector wished to speak with her before class, but Kailey wouldn't protest. Handling ten classes isn't an easy task, though Kailey manages to maintain them all perfectly. Her grades never dropping below an Outstanding mark.

Placing the book with her others in a side worn tote bag, Kailey hurried down the hallway towards Defense Against the Dark Arts. Happening to find Charles and an unknown Gryffindor robed male in his company.

"Charles?" She called, walking over to his side. "Is everything alright?"

Sapphire eyes narrowed up towards the stranger, Jon.

"I'm assuming this gentleman was helping with something?" Kailey easily surveyed the situation, finding enough reason in her theory. Jon and Charles were both carrying textbooks, ones that Kailey knew to belong in Charles' bag. She highly doubted this man to be causing trouble, though he certainly looked capable.

Kailey and Charlies hurried themselves into the classroom, managing to get settled in their seats before Professor Lupin arrived. He looked a tad worse for wear, but no one said anything to that.

"Today we will be learning how to confront and defeat a Boggart," Lupin looked out to the classroom. "Does anyone know what a Boggart is?"

Kailey's hand raised, "Yes sir."

"Well?"

"It's a physical representation of a person's inner most fear. The only way to defeat a Boggart is to make humor of the fear."

Lupin grinned happily, "Very good. Ten points to Ravenclaw."
