The squat ugly humanoid lashed out with its rust covered axe. The weapon streaking a line of silver through the air, cutting so close to its opponent that the taller robed man had to suck in his gut to avoid spilling its contents.

" Is it not the warriors job to defend the mages?" the man muttered to himself. Barrin whisked his hands through a mystic pass and spoke the loud ringing words of power. From his right hand a glittering ray of white and blue light erupted and brushed against the goblin. Where it touched rime and hoarfrost layered itself on the green warty skin. Soon the goblin appeared to be a snowmonster that children would make in the town square after a blizzard, more than an enemy.

Barrin clicked his tongue in annoyance as he looked down to make sure his blue robe had not suffered any real injury to itself. He pulled out a loose azure thread and was happy to see that no more came with it. He then began to fix his mussed hair, as black as raven wings, until the thick black curls where each in their appointed spot. Or as best he could do without mirror or comb.

His eyes the same deep blue as his robe scanned the battlefield looking for his accomplice in this latest folly. " It will be easy, he said. There won't be any goblins in the Goblin Mountains, he said." He then spotted his fellow adventurer several yards away surrounded by a tiny green horde. " Well that will just not suffice, if anyone is to kill him it will be me," he complained and brought his hands through another complex twirl and began mouthing an incantation.

A blade of steel cut through rotten hide, sinew and bone, felling one of the goblins, its mottled skin caked in filth as Senn shouldered the hand-and-a-half sword, pivoting to his right and raising a well-worn heater shield to the group that had was slowly closing in on the man. "It's like fighting children, and endless supply of them..." He muttered, his green eyes peering over the lip of the shield. A pair of the monsters charged forward, having more courage and less intelligence than their brethren, armed with gnarled lengths of wood with metal spikes at one end. Before they could strike, the man cut in a low, sweeping arc, halting their advance as the half circle shifted a few steps back while he got back into position.

"Send as many as you like! Even if the whole mountain is crawling, there's nothing that can stand before my blade!" The blonde beckoned for the remaining goblins to rush forward, his mailed gauntlet clinking as the ring mail rubbed against the steel plates. He was clad in leather armor reinforced with plate favoring his left side, a green scarf adding a splash of color. Senn's dusty blonde hair was short and was little affected by the battle, and as he looked up, he could see his partner preparing another spell.

"Barrin! That better not be what I think it is!" He shouted, checking another of the goblin's with a shield bash and cautiously stepping away. "Damn mages, what with their fancy tricks and words of power..." He said, bracing for what he always assumed would be a misfire in the making.

Barrin shot the taller man a glare that was colder than the ray of frost he had just used on the goblin mere seconds ago, before continuing his incantation. To those not educated in the arcane it seemed as if Barrin was wiggling his fingers and rhyming nonsense words, but as he continued even those with no touch of the Gift could feel the power mounting. Violet sparks began jagging between his fingertips and his hair stood on end. There was the intense smell of ozone before a crack of thunder so loud the mage had to take a step back in recoil.

From his palms jagged a bolt of lightning about as thick as his arm. In less than a second it entered the crowd of goblins, burning a hole right through two of the beasts. The heat of it's passing turned several of the actual metal armanents of the warty green skinned monsters cherry red, those that carried such prizes prompty shrieked and dropped them. The last effect was the most dramatic another shockwave of thunder brought several of the creatures to their knees with its sonic assault.

It was one of his most powerful spells, and Barrin knew that he would probably not be able to summon the power to cast another lightning bolt until after he had rested and studied his grimoires once more. But it was worth it, to see so many goblins fall to his mystical might. Barrin began to smile and congratulate himself mentally when the bolt turned, attracted to the plate linning of Senn's armor.
