Dulcet melodies filled the modest lounge as a silky smooth voice slipped out of the singer on stage. The song, though lamenting, was not terribly sad. A lover reminiscing of a lost one, finally saying good bye after so long. The singer was washed in a pale spotlight in the club, the modest stage housing the house band, the house pianist providing a gentle accompaniment to her sweet voice. She stood, swaying behind a mic on a stand, gripping it loosely in her slender fingers. Her skin was classically pale, just a hint of rosiness there. She was a natural redhead, some shocks of gold and bronze running through her the red to give it more of a copper look. Tonight it was curled, hanging around her shoulders, framing her lovely face. Her smokey grey eyes glinted in the spotlight as she sang the song as naturally as though she'd thought of it first.

She wore a simple but elegant blue dress. The neckline was more of a boatline, bearing her shoulders, a tiny flutter of a sleeve there for style. The neck scooped, showing just the right amount of cleavage--sexy but still professional. The soft fabric hugged her form all the way to her knees, the skirt of the pencil variety. A small slit in the right side gave just a little hint of the shapeliness of her legs, her ample curves accentuated and yet played down. She wore a pair of black heels that gave her an extra three inches, though she was fairly tall on her own--5'6" without any heels.

The song ended to a round of applause and she smiled at the crowd, taking a sip of her water before she excused herself. "Thank you so much. I'm Camile, and I'll be here all week." She smiled and took a little bow before exiting the stage to recover from her set. She walked to the bar, hoping for a nice brandy to sooth her voice. Of course, her name wasn't actually Camile--just a stage name. Her real name was Sapphire, and it felt just a little too much like a stripper's name to use for her work. So besides, it made things easier on her when she was rejected. It wasn't really her--it was Camile who was being rejected. It was Camile who changed every week to fit the whims of the crowd. It was Sapphire who reaped the benefits and sang for the people. Camile was just the front woman.

Or so she told herself as she took the drink and started to look for a place to sit.

It was a rather boring night in this new world. The other two had set to work in the mountains, working on getting the estate built. After rebuilding one every hundred years or so, it was quick and rather easy to get it up on every new plane. He wasn’t one to do much building, though, preferring to scout the area, so Zalera instead went to the nearby city. He wanted to relax: the last plane wasn’t exactly an easy life. Trolls, demons, and necromancers everywhere. It was hardly cleaned out before they left. And it was for the best, either way: they were gaining on their base. This world, however, held a lot of promise.

Zalera headed down quickly from the mountains, hiding in the wooded areas before finding a road and following it into the town. It was a large town, but surprisingly quiet for it being night out. There were a few cars out, but otherwise, it was pretty quiet. He slowly walked the streets, until finding the location of a club. He thought it over for a long moment, before nodding to himself and slowly walking in, his hands in the pockets of his black pants. It sounded like there was people inside, and they were open, so here was a good place to look around.

The first thing he noticed was that someone was up singing in the place. His eyes instantly went to the woman, locking to her own for a moment before he looked around. He kept his coat on, not bothering with fixing his sloppy shirt. He slowly went to the bar and sat down, checking his pockets before pulling out some cash he stole from a man on the road. He pushed it onto the counter, toward the bartender. “Surprise me.” He said, before turning back towards the stage. She was a beautiful woman, and a talented singer. The song ended, and she left the stage to the bar. But he didn’t say anything. Not yet. Best to watch, observe.

Sapphire sighed as she stood at the bar, looking around for a seat, but they were all taken. Resigning herself to the idea that she'd have to settle for a bar stool, she sighed and sat down, pulling up her feet as she let her shoes slide off. She closed her eyes and took a sip of the brandy, letting it sooth her. It had been a long set tonight--the other singer hadn't shown. She sat back and pulled her hair back , lifting it for a moment to cool herself off a bit. "Mmmm...some water please, with mint, if you can spare some."

It was then that she scoped out the rest of the bar, her eyes resting on the man who seemed to be watching her. Immediately, she was struck with the idea that he was a redhead as well. It wasn't so often she saw another redhead, let alone a man. She smiled at him and raised her glass before returning her attention to her glass.

It was quite curious to him that she had found his gaze. Not only that, though, she offered him a smile and a toast. He couldn’t help but return the smile to her; it was infectious. He finished his drink, hiding a napkin as he transfused the alcohol out of his blood stream, and then stood. He might as well try talking to some of the denizens of the world, right? And here was a beautiful and talented woman, to boot. Either his luck, or the world was toying with him. He hoped it wasn’t the latter.

His feet slowly drew him closer to her, leaving his empty glass behind. He didn’t bother with taking a seat – even if there was one open, she would hardly sit shorter than he did. So he stood, not even leaning on the bar. “Good evening.” He said in a soft tone, his eyes reflecting the smile he had. “I must say, you have quite the voice.”

"Well, tickle my ivories. I've got a fan," she said with a chuckle, looking up at him. "I appreciate the compliment. Won't you sit down?" She asked, tilting her head. Some curls fell into her face and she smiled at him again, a day-brightening one actually, though it was night and the light in the club was dim. "You don't seem to be a regular here--I perform here pretty often. I'm sure I'd remember you. Are you just passing through?"

He wasn’t sure what she meant by ‘tickle my ivories.’ It could have meant something dirty, but if he obliged and was wrong, well, that meant a scene in front of many people. That would never be a good thing. But, he could tell it was a positive remark by her tone and chuckle. “I would sit with you, but all the seats seem to have been taken.” It was true enough – most of the bar was full. He had an urge to brush the curls out of her face, but held back. That smile was dazzling, though…

“I am actually new in the area, yes.” He said, offering his own smile to her. “But it seems I have come to the right place, and found one amazing person.” He tilted his head slightly, his eyes never leaving hers. “Sadly, I cannot say that I know the area that well.”

She chuckled, taking a moment to appreciate a winsome smile from the handsome stranger. He was quite attractive and she couldn't help but be intrigued. So he thought he'd found someone interesting, huh? A newcomer? Well, well.

"I'd be flattered by your words, but I'm not sure you're referring to me." She grinned and looked up at him. "I'm glad you're in the right place though. Tell you what. If you'll do me a favor and get me home safely, I'll show you around," she said, sitting up straight and sipping her glass of brandy again. "If you're lucky, I'll sing you another song before the night is completely over. What do you say, stranger?"

He couldn’t help but smile as he heard her laugh, noticing that she took a long moment before saying anything. She must have liked his comments. Good. It was what he wanted.

He listened to her, grinning with her as he watched her drink from her glass. “That sounds like one of the best offers I have heard in a long time.” He said with a chuckle, trying to appear like he was thinking it over, even if his answer would have been obvious. “Yes, I’ll take you up on that. Just tell me whenever you’re ready to go, and I’ll escort you.” He chuckled once more. “By the way, name’s Zalera.”

While he was thinking it over, her ice water came, a few sprigs of mint resting on the edge of the glass. He seemed rather pleased with himself about the current situation. It was another of his more attractive features that his smile was fairly easy and he didn't mind joking around a little. She was just finishing her brandy when he told her his name. "Well, Zalera, it's nice to meet you. I'm Sapphire," she said, holding out her hand to shake his. "I'll just finish up my water and we can be off."

Someone finally got up, and he was quick to take the seat near her. It was easier to look into her eyes this way, and he took his time as she finished her drink, another one coming to her. He was confused by her having two names – she said that her name was Camille, right? This must be a personal name. Another smile came to his lips. She offered her hand to him, and he took it, bringing it up to his lips and kissing the back of it lightly. “It is a pleasure to meet you. Take your time. We can go whenever you want.”

She smiled as he eagerly took the seat next to her that had been so recently vacated. She wondered briefly if it was because he wanted to sit, or if it had something to do with her. Either way it was nice to be on about the same level. Decorative piano playing filled the room and her soul warmed to the music. She loved singing here at the club, the small crowd just enough to settle her. And if she wasn't so tired, and if her feet didn't hurt quite so much, she'd be happy to just sing here forever...or at least all night. When he kissed her hand, she smiled and chuckled just a little. "Well, I haven't seen that move in awhile. I won't be long. But the water soothes my throat, and I need it at this point," she said with a smile. Her speaking voice had attained a tiny bit of raspiness, as though she'd been asleep for awhile, and it just was not working for her. So she sipped at her mint water once her hand was free and watched Zalera.

"So, before I wander off with you into the night and so on, tell me some more about yourself."

The piano music was the perfect touch for the evening right now, rather soothing for everyone. He simply watched her, intrigued by her beauty, inside and out. He watched her drink her water slowly, hearing the slight wear in her throat. Yes, it would be best for her to rest her voice to get it back. Her hand was released, and he simply watched. Until he heard her request.

He thought for a long moment, before speaking up. “I don’t like to talk about myself too often, but for you… I’m from out of town, been wandering the world for a long time, just exploring areas. It was fun, and still is, but you don’t meet too many people in the wilds.” He smiled. “It’s much better in the city, I believe. Good food, and Beautiful women.”

Zalera intrigued her. He was something of a rare commodity around these parts, and his mysterious nature made her wonder what it was about him that seemed to call out to her so much. Maybe it was just because he seemed to like her. It didn't hurt that he'd paid her a compliment about her voice. She smiled and sipped at her water, letting it sooth her as he told her about himself...a little. Well, at least he hadn't been exaggerating when he said he didn't like to talk about himself.

It was odd, he appeared to like traveling to cities, but it didn't seem as though he went to many. If he was exploring the world, wouldn't planes be involved somehow? That meant airports, and cities large enough to warrant them. But maybe he started there and wandered off into the wilderness? Confused, but interested, she watched him.

"Oh? I would be flattered, but I'm still not sure if you mean me," she teased. "So are you paid to explore? Or what do you do for a living?" she asked.

She seemed confused somewhat about what he spoke of, although he wasn’t surprised at all about it. Not many people lived off the wild in this world, he had quickly assumed. Everything was hand made or grown. No hunters, no dangers. It was an interesting world to him, to say the least.

“I do mean you.” He said, with a smile. “You have the looks and the heart of a beautiful person.” He nodded, before he heard her questions. “No, I do it because that’s how I was brought up. I travelled the wilderness and lived off the wilds. It’s a healthy lifestyle, if you know what you are doing. But enough about me. Tell me about yourself, Sapphire.”

She smiled at his answer and sipped at her water--not much left at this point. Stretching, she thought about it for a moment. He hadn't really told her much, and she didn't know what he did for a living, only that he was sort of a modern-day gypsy. Still, if he was a gypsy, he pulled it off well enough. She smiled and shrugged a little. "Well, after that wealth of information, I don't know what to say," she teased.

"I'll tell you that I'm a lounge singer. I sing here mostly. It's a decent living. My stage name is Camile, and I live alone with a big, happy dog. We take care of each other." She shrugged and sipped at her water more. "What else did you want to know?"

Zalera couldn’t help but chuckle at his tease. It was true enough, he didn’t say much about himself. But, it was better for her not to know the truth. At least for now. She would learn when she was ready. At least, he told himself that as he listened to her.

“It must be a rather lucrative job, if you do it as a living. Tons of fans that listen nightly to you.” He smiled as he leaned against the bar. So he did hear her right, that that was a stage name for her and not her real name. Alright. And a dog? Was that like a wolf? That would be fun at the worst. He loved wolves. He shook his head slowly. “Sounds about everything I would need to know for the moment. So, whenever you are ready.”

"I make a decent living, but I do some side-work to supplement my income." She finished her water and took a moment to flex her feet before slipping them back into her shoes. After settling her tab she smiled and nodded. "Alright then. I'm ready," she said with a grin. "So, would you like me to show you around right away? Or would you rather wait until daylight? Actually, I sleep for half the day, so it would be closer to sunset," she said with a chuckle.

Zalera slowly stood as she said she was ready, and his grin matched her own. As he listened to the options, he was bewildered by his luck. She already was up for nights instead of days. Not that it mattered, light didn’t bother him too much now, but still… Just in case. He didn’t want to test this world’s sun. “Well, if you are alright with me taking a bed or seat at your house for the day’s rest, then we can go at sunset tomorrow. If that is alright with you, of course.”

"Have you got a place to stay besides my couch? I mean, it's comfy for a pullout, but if you've someplace else to go you might be more comfortable," she said, shrugging. "If you don't, it's no trouble. If you can handle my dog watching you and sleeping there, I have no problems with it."

With that, she stood up and held her hand out for his. "Shall we, then?"

“You think low of my tenacity for sleeping in uncomfortable places. I –do- sleep outside at times.” Which was true enough: He was a creature that few others attacked on sight. “And while I do have another place to go to rest, it is out of the way and would simply take time from any tour you have planned for me.” He chuckled as he took her hand lightly in his own.

“Yes, we shall. Lead the way, M’lady.”

Sapphire chuckled, holding his hand as he took hers. "Well, you said you preferred the city. I assumed that also meant comfort. But you know what they say about assumptions," she said with a laugh. With that, she picked up her purse and guided him out of the club into the relatively quiet night. Cars traveled up and down the streets as they stepped out onto the sidewalk. This was just on the outskirts of downtown, her apartment only about three blocks away.

The buildings were mostly brick, some well-tended, others less so. Overall, however, her neighborhood was relatively safe and quiet--near a park. She continued to hold his hand as they walked. She didn't ask much, but she pointed out different landmarks and businesses on his way, as well as the park.

"We'll take the elevator, my feet are killing me."

Zalera laughed with her, even though he did not know what they made about assumptions. Silly world sayings, he was sure. But asking about it would make him look weird, he was sure. He let her lead him out, and he looked over the buildings and the part in the area, staying near her. So strange. He would have a lot to learn about this world. But looking at Sapphire, he was sure that learning would be interesting, if not outright fun.

They entered the building where she lived, and he heard her words. He smiled and nodded. He knew exactly what he would do when they got to her place.

Sapphire led him to a well kept building and stepped into the security entrance with him, letting go of his hand to grab her keys out of her purse. After they got through the door, she led him to the elevator and hit the third floor. About half way down the hall, they reached her door and she let them both in, only to be greeted by a rather large and happy border collie. She bent down to pet him, grinning as he licked her hand. "Hiya, Sampson! Hi, sweetie." The dog whined happily, and resisted the urge to jump up on her and her guest. When the dog finally noticed Zalera, he woofed happily, wagging his tail.

"Zalera, this is Sampson. Sampson, this is my friend Zalera," she said with a smile, turning to close and lock the door, slipping out of her shoes again and setting her purse on the counter.

They were upstairs and not long afterward in her apartment. As the door closed behind them, her dog came forward for attention from the two of them. His eyes locked on the dog’s eyes, seeing the hidden intelligence in the animal. He moved forward, kneeling down and his hands moving to lightly scratch behind the dog’s ears as his mind reached out to connect with the dog’s. [If you are a good boy and give us some space, I’ll bring you a good treat the next time I come here.]

He moved further into the apartment, walking past Sapphire and taking a seat on the couch. “Come here.” He said in a soft voice, patting the sofa, but further from him instead of next to him. He waited for her to do so until reaching and grabbing her calves, pulling them onto his lap and slowly massaging her feet.

She watched as Zalera gave her dog some affection, smiling softly. She ran her fingers through her hair and checked on Sampson's food first before she came to the couch. It was interesting to see him look so at home. She wondered what he had in mind when she sat down until he grabbed her by the calves for a foot rub. She was instantly putty in his hands. "That is incredible," she said softly. "Thank you for that," she said, closing her eyes and leaning back a little.

The room was well lit with lamps, instead of an overhead light. A tv sat on the opposite wall on a nice stand, and the couch was both firm and comfortable. No coffee table for her--just end tables. Some art on the walls, several dvd racks and it was a comfortable, practical home.

"Mmm, I appreciate your doing this, but you really don't need to," she said, though it was only said half-heartedly.
