He looked up at the cloudy sky, snow falling from the clouds above. It always marveled him to see these silent raindrops falling from nowhere, then alight upon the ground without a sound. Several white petals fell on his face, only to disappear. He sighed, a white cloud of his own appearing before his face. He could not remember the beauty of his wife whom he lost long ago. He wanted to see her again, but could not face the cowardice of leaving this world alone.

But he had finally settled matters. He trained one of the young men of the village to take his place, picking herbs from the countryside, mixing them in the right proportions to heal the others. The village was quite unsettled at this. He was far too young to train another, won't he take another woman for his wife? But, no, this was not what he wanted. Eventually, the village accepted his decision. He was quite satisfied he was no longer needed. Indeed, it was one of his errant walks through the mountains that led to his wife's death. He had spent several days in the countryside selecting plants for his medicines when she fell. He cursed himself for not being there with her. What use was all his knowledge when he could not save the woman he loved?

And she was beautiful. So beautiful. Yet he cried when he realized he could no longer see her face. He knew then it was time to join her, wherever she may be, for the rest of eternity, in dreamless sleep. He had heard rumors of a beautiful woman living in the mountain, and he decided to see her. She was not his wife, but he hoped her beauty would remind him of her. And, if not, it did not matter.

The snow crunched under his feet as he made his way up the mountain. Those were the only sounds to be heard.

Kaiya never did want to leave the village. At first she had gone down, hid her tail and ears when in human form, to trick the village men like Kitsunes have been known for. Only, she never realized she would fall in love with one.
For a long time she hid her secret from him, never telling him anything. She even married the boy.

But the longer she was away from the mountains, the weaker she became. She was afraid to reveal her secret to her husband though, for fear he may he upset with it, probably even not like that she kept it from him. So, she faked her death in order to return to the mountains without having to reveal to him what she was.

Kaiya was able to regain her strength now that she was home. But it didn't last for long though. A few days ago she left her house to go for a walk in her fox form. Her snow white fur making it easy for her to blend in with the snow. But the wolves that had suddenly claimed territory here, had spotted and attacked her. She took shelter in a cave, unable to get home in the state she was in.
She had several wounds and one slightly major wound on her side that had finally stopped bleeding. One of her back legs were broken as well. She couldn't believe she had let her guard down and was vulnerable to the wolves. Had she been paying attention, this never would have happened...

The howls of the wolves mingled with that of the wind. He was unsure which was worse, to be torn apart by dogs, or to freeze slowly to death from the snow. He did not mind his fate, but had he truly sought it, he would have been dead long ago. He continued trudging up the mountain. Somehow, he found shelter. He saw a cave up ahead, and, as his legs were weary, entered it. He would build a fire here, rest, and ponder his face in the lonely cold mountains.

Entering the cave he saw it. Its white coat made it look like part of the snow, but the blood stains could not be ignored. He knelt down and saw it, a fox of whitest white. He tore part of his sleeve to make a makeshift bandage. Some sticks he brought for the fire would become part of a tourniquet. Medicinal herbs would aid healing the wound. After bandaging the fox, he built a fire. Was it to provide warmth for the fox, or just him? He pondered as the small fire sputtered to life. Shadows danced across the frozen walls. He smiled a bit. Perhaps his fate was to perish in his sleep as the fire died out. Then he would be a meal for the fox he had just found. He cradled it in his arms, gently stroking its fur. He lay down on his side and cried a bit as he thought of his wife. He knew he would meet her, but still could not remember her eyes, her face, or any other of her wonderous beauty.

Kaiya was out by the time anyone came into the cave. She managed to fall asleep and wasn't aware of anything. She did feel slight movement though as well as a bit of pain, but it wasn't enough to wake her. Not like she wanted to wake anyways.
She thought about her husband like she always did now. They were very pleasant thoughts, and made her sometimes wish she can see him again.

As she thought of him, she hopes he is okay. She'd hate for something bad to have happen to him because of her leave.
Eventually she felt someone stroke her. That was enough to wake her. But when looked up to see what human had come to the cave, she was surprised by who she saw.

Kaiya soon made herself stand, but carefully. She remained as a fox and stepped closer to him. She just couldn't believe it was actually him. After all this time...
She laid back down, but very close to him. It wasn't long until she felt bad. She saw him cry, and that hurt her.
He was still upset, that she knew. As she closed her eyes and curled up against him, she wondered if he may feel better if she was in his dream once he falls asleep..

He continued trudging up the mountain. The snow crunched under his foot as he made his way upwards. The sun looked down at him glaring unmercifully as the snow chilled his bones. The scene was somehow familiar, yet not. He looked up and saw a ridge, where a white fox stood. He continued faster, his walk becoming a stride becoming a run. When he stood atop the ridge, the fox had gone, only for a spring of hot water to take its place. The steam felt good against him, the cold slowly dissipating. The water beckoned him, the water flowing upwards through the spring.

He saw no one else through the steam, and stripped off his clothes. He slipped into the water, warm, wet, so relaxing. He smiled as the springs lulled himself to sleep, resting within the soothing waters, the sun warmly looking down upon him. But he soon heard light singing, the lovely dulcet tone of a woman, who must have been near him. He opened his eyes to see the lovely shape of a young woman, her back to him, her delicious figure only hinting at the unique beauty she must have been. He was surprised that she did not notice him, yet he uttered not a world lest he spoil this lovely vision.

The steam was thick, fogging his eyes, clouding his vision. Even if she turned to him he would not be able to see her face. Yet her inner beauty and the shape of her body was enough to entice him to yearn for her further.

As a fox she noticed the man come towards her. She remained where she was but only for a moment. She moved away quite quickly before he can reach the springs.
It was a beautiful night for a nip in the springs and as Kaiya used the mist from the warm water to hide herself she couldn't help but to watch as he undressed. He had the perfect body in her eyes.

She knew she had to have him. So, she sang. Her soft voice would surely help her with what she wanted. He couldn't see her, and that is how she wanted it to be for now. She will get closer to him eventually, to try and seduce him. She just had to wait.
But she didn't need to wait for long. She could somehow sense a want for her coming from him. That is what she was waiting for and suddenly she singing stop.
The mist had gotten much thicker by then, so she doubted he'd see her move from her stop and soon got closer to him, beside him. He may not have seen it, but he would surely feel her gentle hand on his thigh beneath the warm water.

The singing stopped, yet he felt comfortable, at ease, in the hazy warm mists. He wondered where the dulcet tones of his companion in the springs came from, and where the lovely young singer must be. Yet it was these same tunes that lulled him to a different state, one of a yearning of a different kind. As his eyes opened and closed, he could see her, gently approaching him, ever so subtly, sliding against the rocks toward him. He felt no suspicious towards her, only a desire, a want, to be closer to her, spirit and body. He felt her slight touch on his thigh, and welcomed it, gently sighing and relaxing to her ministrations. He reciprocated the touch, ever so longingly relaxing his fingertips against her thighs. He could just imagine them, creamy white, delicious to the touch. He slowly stroked, just softly, the bubbling warmth of the hot springs caressing his body. His touches were caressing her, his fingertips slowly approaching her inner thighs, upwards, his littlest finger just stroking the outer lips of his newfound companion.
