an officer (gentleman?) and the lady ( picklechiffon and wolvenrogue)

Elizabeth had been slightly mortified by Robert, as he charged into the restaurant. She’d been tugging to get his attention but the proverbial bull was loose in the china shop.

She stiffened as the waiter said Delaney’s name, and then as Robert took the chair in direct view of the table. Once they were seated she took his hand.

“You do know that this is not the right time for a confrontation, right?” She felt constrained by her upbringing. A scene here would ruin her. She laughed, not like it mattered, she was going home with Robert, but old thoughts and habits died hard.

"Yeah, I know... but I could make him sweat." Robert said. Just then Delaney was seated at his table and Robert got his fiirst look at his nemasis. "what a snake!" he said under his breath. Robert summoned the bar maid. "I'd like to buy Mr. Delaney a beer" he said. " Tell him its compliments of Elizabeth's husband. " As the bar maid left, Robert pull his colt from behind his back and rested it on his thigh , under the table but in clear view of Delaney. When the bar maid delivered the beer, and pointed in his direction, Robert tipped his hat with the barrel of the colt. then put the gun back behind his back.

Elizabeth was in shock. Robert brandished his weapon like it was nothing. She understood he was Calvary, and as a man of service able to carry, even expected. But here in the civility of Boston, things just weren’t done that way. The slight gasp that arose from the lady folk at surrounding tables was testament to that.

Elizabeth straightened her back, and met the gaze of the surprised Delaney. She would not cower, she was in the fight for not just her life but those of the baby she carried and her right to love and be with whomever she wished. Her smile was sweet and as contrite as ever, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

Robert saw what he had hoped for in Delaney face that glint of fear. He wanted him to feel it. To know just what he had done to the innocent woman who had become his wife. Bob was like a big cat staring down his prey. He would fill Delaney's heart with terror, then, when the moment was right destroy him. Robert saw the look of surprise in his wife's face when he pulled the gun. "what ?" he said, " I didn't shoot it, I didn't even point it at him. and I bought him a beer!"

Elizabeth rolled her eyes at the love of her life. She smiled, and reached for his hand and squeezed it gently.

“I know,” she said softly. She knew he didn’t quite understand the nuances of civil society.

“You’re a Westerner,” she said loudly enough for the other folks to hear. That garnered some sympathetic looks, but also grunts of understanding.

Most of the dinners turned back to their meals, which she was grateful for. Especially when she realized Delaney had set down his napkin, risen and was walking over to their table.

As Delaney approached him Robert stood up to his full height but was still six inches shorter and lighter by near a hundred pounds. Robert could see though that he was a city slicker, and soft.

"You may own this place for all I know, but you sure as hell are not welcome at this table, now why don't you just go sit down and eat your dinner and leave us in peace." Robert turned his back on him and went to sit down. Delany hit robert in the back of the head with a black jack, and Robert fell to the ground dazed momentarily. As Delaney moved to finish him robert rolled to his side and pulled his log knife from his boot. He held it to Delaney's groin. "Go ahead move! You gutless scumbag! You'll be carrying your balls home in a paper sack!" Robert got p and took out his 45. He led Delany into the street. " I should shoot you right here, but I have a lady waiting. I'll be back for you! plan on it, and next time you won't be so lucky."

Robert dusted himself off and headed back to his table. You still think I should be civil? he asked Elizabeth.

Elizabeth had been shocked when Delaney had hit Robert over the head. She slowly shook her head at her lover.

”No, I think you’ve been more than understanding, but there is still a way to go about things here in the city.”

She flashed him a smile though one only for him, that let him know he was most definitely her hero.

“Come, sit, let’s finish our dinner and then go back to the hotel.” She winked at him as she waited for him to re join her.

Robert rubbed the back of his head and sat down to the table, with a satisfied grin on his face. They ate and chatted. "You know I let him go. By the time I'm through with him he'll never sleep again. Never!" "So tell me what is there about Boston you like more than at home on our mountain?" What ever it is I'd like to see it with you tomorrow.

Robert was mostly quiet though. He was making plans. Rather than take a cab, they decided to walk the fourteen blocks back to the hotel. I was a beautiful fall night, and Elizabeth felt safe with Robert at her side.

(short I know, but kinda needed to be)

Elizabeth linked her arm through Robert’s as they walked back to the hotel. She knew he was distracted, so took in the sights of Boston’s night life.

The activity on the streets had quietened, but was still busy compared to Dodge, where the streets rolled up at sundown. She pondered Robert’s request, to see what she loved about Boston tomorrow. As the couple strolled they were both quiet, lost in their respective worlds and making plans.

Robert loved walking with Elizabeth. It just felt right. They fit together like two puzzle pieces. Of course he was the odd piece. He decided to greet Delaney early tomorrow, and start his day off right. As they entered the hotel, Robert stopped by the concierge's desk.” Hi there I'm Robert Waters, and as you can probably guess, I'm not from around here, but I'm looking for an old friend of mine Jim Delaney. You wouldn't happen to know where his office is would you?” The concierge smiled, that was an easy request. He scrawled an address on a slip of paper and handed it to Robert. “Thanks son,” he said, handing a fifty cent piece. Robert tucked the address in his pocket, and led Elizabeth up to their room. He unlocked the door, and looked around the room then brought Elizabeth in and closed the door and locked it.”So where are we going to visit after breakfast my dear? Robert asked, as he began slowly unbuttoning Elizabeth's dress. He was rested from the day before and was looking forward to having some fun.

She looked up at him smiling. "I hadn't really thought much about it yet. I think I am more interested in seeing what tonight brings first." She smiled at him before gently kissing his lips, pressing her body in closer to him. She let herself mold to his familiar form and shape, a sfot sigh escaping her lips.

Truely, tomorrow would come, but for this moment all she could think about was her lips, locked on his, and the wonderful masculine taste of his mouth.

As her dress fell to the floor Robert looked down her beautiful body, her breasts were now fuller and more rounded than before and where the hollow of her hips had been there was now a beautiful rounded mound. she was just beginning to show, Roberts heart soared at the sight. It was his child that was bring this wondrous transformation in her body. He placed his hand protectively on the small mound and kissed her softly. Where his instincts had always been to protect her, those feelings intensified. He gently picked her up as though she were made of glass and laid her on the bed. He undressed before her and laid down beside her, sheltering her from what ever dangers, real or imagined might come her way.

He resolved that he was through playing games with Delaney, it was too dangerous. The next confrontation would be the last. He pushed that intruding thought to the back of his mind and concentrated on the woman he loved. He kissed her body gently. His lips caressing her skin as he kissed a soft trail down her neck and shoulders between her breasts, with a brief detour to lightly kiss her nipples, then down over his cherished mound and to her pussy where he lightly traced her slit with her tongue. He returned to her lips again, and laying beside her looked at the wonderful mounds of her breasts as he played with her nipples in his fingers.

Elizabeth writhed under the loving gentle attention of Robert’s lips and his tongue. The slight flick of it against her pussy sent a strong electric bolt through her entire body. She moaned as his lips found hers. The heady taste of herself mixed in with his own was incredibly erotic.

She knew he wanted to go slow with her given her condition but her body was ready for him.

Gently weaving her hands into his hair she intensified their kiss, her tongue probing into his mouth. She gently pulled him on to her body, between her parted thighs. She looked up in to his face, her eyes sparkling as she felt him find the entrance to her body.

“Please,” she whispered softly.

Robert didn't have to be asked twice. Robert was more than willing to oblige. He moistened his cock and pulled one leg to his shoulder, he straddled her thigh and pushed in deep. he loved the heat of her body and the passion in the word "please" spoken dripping with desire. He took care with where he placed his weight supporting himself on her thigh and arching over her belly and resting heavily on her breasts. He didn't let this diminish his ardor at all feel her return his thrusts, he gained confidence and drove deep into her womb. He watched he face carefully wanting to be sure she was alright

He kissed her deeply and held back his release hoping to give her more than one. He passion was high, and he hoped it would be possible. He loved his wife so much and wanted her to know it.

Elizabeth loved how Robert took care to mind her swelling belly as they made love.

His thrusts hard and deep though satisfied her craving for him, though his weight was carried on his arms. She watched his face as he took her, enjoying the satisfaction that flared in his eyes every time her buried himself into her.

When she came it was a slow smouldering burn that started in her core and the radiated out. She’d never experienced anything like it before with him. Elizabeth was positive the reaction came from the love in Robert’s eyes and his cherishing of her body.

When Elizabeth came he could feel her body relax. He rolled off her and rolling he on her side he snuggled up to her warm back. He moistened her rosebud with his cock and lid in slowly, gently until he was fully buried with in her. Wrapping his arms around her, he played with one nipple and her clit with his fingers as his cock gently slid in and out. He kissed her neck and shoulders until she turned her head to face him and accept his passionate kisses on the lips. He invaded her mouth with his tongue and his passion began to build. He was loosing the battle for control, but held back once again plunging deeper in her ass in an effort t make her cum before he did.

~~~~~~~~
Jim Delaney didn't sleep that night. He tossed and turned. He worried about what would happen next, and tried to plot revenge, but mostly he got tired, just as Robert had hoped. He wouldn't be on top of his game the next morning.
Elizabeth came hard a second time, her body trembling with deep pants and exhaustion. She curled herself tightly to her lover, and fell swiftly alseep. Her dreams were haunted by Delaney, and of her dead husband.
She woke with a start at 5 am, a cold sweat on her brow.
She took several deep breaths, Robert was softly snorring beside her deep nearly soundless puffs of air escaping him. She smiled, glad she hadn't woke him. He seemed so worried aobut her already, she didn't want to fuel that worry any more. She cuddled close to him her hands on his chest, rising and falling with each breath she took, and that rythym is what lulled her back into a peaceful sleep.
Robert woke well rested and bounded out of bed. The day of revenge on Delaney had come, and it was time for Robert to stand and deliver. He kissed his bride and got dressed and strapped on his gun belt and slipped his long knife into his boot. "I think you had better come with m. I don't trust leaving you alone, and besides you can help me distract him." He waited while Elizabeth got dressed and then escorted her down to the Lobby. Robert summoned a buggy for hire, and then after talking to the driver, helped her in the carriage, and then boarded and took the reigns. He drove them down town to Delaney's offices and went inside. they stopped at the receptionist desk and announced himself and Elizabeth. "Do you have an appointment?" she asked.
Robert pulled out a pistol. Right here he said laying the pistol on her transaction counter. "We'll just wait in his office. Why don't you run on home." The woman left immediately, and Robert lead Elizabeth inside Delaney's office.
Elizabeth marvelled at Robert and how no nonsense he was about things. The poor woman out front had been nearly mortified by him. She had to smile. She loved his Western approach to everything, bull headed and blustery, versus the meek veiled barbs that came in the East’s concept of society.
She sat stiffly in the chair on the other side of the desk. She imagined Delaney sitting across from her, offering the promises of riches, if she only consented to being his while her husband had been alive. That had been the first and last time she had been in this office, was to listen to an offer so vile that even now years later it still make her blood curdle.
She smiled as Robert placed his hand on her shoulder offering her comfort and support.
Elizabeth he said why don't you sit over there he said. Things are likely to get heated in a couple minutes, and I don't want you in the line of fire." He led her to achair that was more or less behind the door. He handed her one of his pistols and told her solemnly, if anything goes wrong shoot him. Shoot to kill. Robert sat down in Delaney's Chair and put his feet up on the desk. He layed his aother pistol in his lap in plain sight.
There was yelling out in the outer office when Delany arrived and found his secretary gone. He was angry. He burst in the door only to find Robert relaxing at his desk. "well if it isn't Jim Delaney, Gutter slug!. he said." Delaney was fuming and out of control, just as Robert had hoped. He smiled and waited paitiently for Delaney to snap, and he did. He drew on Robert shot the gun right out of his hand breaking his hand. Delaney charged the desk and Robert simply stepped aside and Delaney crashed through the second story window and landed in the mud in the street. Robert collected his gun from Elizabeth and lead her out of the office. They found Delaney face down in the mud. Robert rolled him over and discovered he was alive. He checked him over, and found he was paralyzed. Aparantly he had broken his neck. Robert walked across the street to where ther was a doctors's office. He stuck his head in the door and said Doc! there's som business for you out in the street. He quietly walked Elizabeth back to their buggy and drove off toward their hotel.
Elizabeth was in shock. She let Robert lifter her easily into the carriage, and as she looked back she saw a woman with a young boy of six or eight, looking at the broken man in the street crying, his face alternating from looking at the horror of Delaney’s body and the folds of his mothers skirts. Elizabeth couldn’t help but place her hands protectively over her swelling belly.
She hoped her baby never had to face such unpleasantness in her life time. She would make every effort to ensure her child knew only the good in people. She lay her head on Robert’s shoulder.
“Promise me, that this is over. That we can go home to Dodge in peace.” She wanted nothing more than to be in their humble cabin, together.
Robert hugged her close. "I promise" he said "I know that was harsh, but the man had to be stopped. I didn't intend to make him a cripple. He did that himself. I feel bad for the woman and the boy though. If he had them, why was he after you?" Robert was old fashioned in his ways and simply didn't understand how a man could love a woman enough to give her a child, and then want to leave her. It just didn't make sense. "we can stop by the ticket office and buy passage home for tomorrow if you like", he said.. "I have seen all I care to of this city. "
Elizabeth nodded into Robert’s lapel, safely wrapped in his arms. She knew unfortunately very much the kind of man that was always scouting for something better than what he had at home. Hell, she’d been married to one before. She just wanted to go home.
Her belly was beginning to show more so than before, and all she wanted was the quiet comfort of being at home.
She sighed deeply as they passed by a boutique filled with fabrics from around the world. Gently she tugged Robert inside, and purchased herself a bolt of soft flannelette and a light green patterned cotton. Satisfied with her purchases, they continued the walk to the hotel, which resulted in several more stops in shops where she picked up a few more things she knew she’d not get once they were in Dodge.
“Before we leave tomorrow, we can visit the bank and clean out the account there, if you feel safe enough to transport that kind of money with us.” She looked at her husband. She felt it would be safe enough with him, but wanted to have his opinion on the matter anyway.
Robert decided that it would be better for them to open an account in their married name there in Boston, and not tempt thieves to attack them with Elizabeth in such a delicate condition. They had not had trouble transferring money in the past, and the could easily transfer it once they were home. He explained this to Elizabeth so that she would understand his thinking.
Robert was glad that she saw the small cabin on the mountain as home, and was looking forward to getting there. He longed for home too. Boston was not a city built for people like him, who spoke in straightforward language a real man could understand.
Elizabeth slept peacefully.
The next morning true to their word, they visited the bank. Opening an account under Robert and Elizabeth Walker, they moved all the money from her previous account into the new one, and set up a bit of a trust fund. Elizabeth was adamant that there be something for the baby, and once all the business of finances had been taken care of, she felt relieved. The money she had inherited from her folks and from her first husband was now completely dealt with and with people she knew and trusted. God willing, nothing would happen to her, but now if it did, those she loved most would be set up to have the means to access what had been hers.
As they made their way to the train, she couldn’t help but smile. They were heading home. As soon as she set foot into the car, she felt her eyes grow heavy. Surprisingly, all the drama, and the tasks of putting things in order, made her suddenly tired.
