Alister stumbled out of the bar and leaned against the threshold, a bottle of cheap beer in his hand. He smiled to himself, feeling better now that the alcohol had taken over. He was dizzy, and didn't know where the ground began and the wall stopped. He felt like he could fall forever. Only one thing could make this feeling even better. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out his familiar friend; the little orange bottle. Tonight's treat--Vicodin. There were only a few left, and he had promised them a buddy of his, but he felt like he needed them more than his buddy did. He struggled with the cap for a little while, growling whenever his hand slipped, but grinned when he got it off, finally. He tilted his head back and let a couple of the oblong pills slide down his throat, followed by a swig of his beer.

Waiting for the pills to take affect, he stumbled his way down the street towards, or what he thought was towards, his home.

Leila walked home from her job as a waitress with a smile on her face. She had just gotten a fair raise and couldn't wait to tell Alister even though in the back of her mind she knew it just meant more beer for him. For about a year now he had been drinking a lot more than he used to, but she just let it go since it hadn't affected her too much. They only got into it once or twice and that was only when she had addressed his state. She went to open the door, but it was locked. She let out a sigh and dug through her purse for her keys that jingled as she pulled them out and unlocked the door.
She hadn't even cared to call of Alister since all the lights were off and the door was locked. She tried to remember if he had something to do, but shrugged it off after a moment. She set her purse on the counter and hung her coat on the dining chair before moving to her room to change.

After maybe half an hour of stumbling down the streets, he had managed to make it to his door. He leaned against the cool wood for a moment, feeling the affects of the Vicodin take over, then opened the door and sauntered into the living room, not bothering to shut the door behind him. He was feeling tired now, and it took all his strength--it seemed--to walk to the couch before falling face first into its cushions. He knew Leila was home since the lights were on and the door was unlocked, but at the moment that was the farthest thing from his mind.

Leila had decided to take a quick shower, and when she got out she could feel the cold coming from underneath the door. She quickly dressed into pajama bottoms and a tank top before leaving the room. When she came into the living room she saw Alister facing the cushions on the couch and the door wide open.
"What the hell?" She asked him as she moved to the door to close it. "Does it not occur to you that it costs money to heat this house?" She asked slightly irritated. She shut the door and moved to her boyfriend and lent down her hand. "If you're tired go to bed in the right place for once." She halfway giggled as she remembered her news. She decided to save it for tomorrow if he was going to bed.

Alister looked up at his girlfriend with drowsy eyes, the Vicodin making it difficult for him to focus on what was in front of him. He smiled wearily at Leila and batted at her hand. "Hey, beautiful," He said with a small chuckle. "Come here often?" He asked before bursting out laughing. He tried to sit himself up, but fell back on to the couch instead, still giggling.

If she could have lifted him she would have, but she was much shorter than him and she wasn't the strongest girl. She was tired of him coming home like this almost every night and the routine never changed. "Come on I can't leave you unsupervised." Her phrase having a double meaning. He did act like a child so that was one thing, but she also didn't want him to hurt himself. She grabbed his arm in attempt to pull him off the couch. It was a more playful gesture than nagging him to do it.

Alister was barely even listening to her at this point, he was laughing so hard. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her onto the couch with him. "C'mon babe, relax." She was always trying to bring him down and tell him what to do--or at least that was how he saw it. "You can supervise me from here, right?" He said between laughter.

A small pout crossed her face. "I'm relaxed." She said defendantly. She started to laugh at his laughter. It was like a virus spreading and when it finally died down from her she smiled at him. He had been her fun for the past two years of her life and that's why she loved it so much. "I got a raise today." She said on a more serious happy note.

Of course Alister was happy to hear about her raise, but probably for the wrong reasons. He felt a large weight lift off his chest; he felt like now he didn't have to worry about how much he could spend at the bar. Admittedly, he didn't view it at a problem in the first place. He had meaning to get a job, and was casually looking around, but things didn't seem to be working out for him in any of the job departments. He didn't understand why he wasn't getting any interviews, and frankly it only fueled his need to feel good, prompting him to drink and pop pills. Although it wouldn't have mattered, either way. He smiled wearily, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Oh, babe. That's...so great."

Her smile became slightly forced not knowing if she should have told him, but it was too late now. "Yeah it is great, but with that extra money I was thinking about saving for like a trip or something?" Her comment was more of a question. A small chill ran down her back from he cold still lingering in the house. She moved his hands and laid down on the couch next to his warm body after planting a small peck on his cheek.

A trip genuinely sounded good to him. He would love to get away, and maybe his troubles wouldn't follow them. "Yeah, that sounds great." He said, turning on his side to face her. "We can get you one of those bikini's and you can tan, babe." He said with a bit of a slur, putting his hands on her hips.

She scoffed at his bikini suggestion. "I think you need to tan more than I do." She smiled. She turned to lay on her back and stare at the ceiling and thought about where they could go. She looked over to him and observed for a minute; she had almost forgotten that he probably wouldn't remember all of this in the morning. A sigh escaped her lips. "Let's go." She said indicating going to bed again.
