Unseen by almost all mortals are them. Accidents of nature who became sentient, they live an eternity of boredom if it was not for mortals. As they are to mortals, mortals are to ants, being nothing but playthings. Their tentacles of trans-dimensional connections to various worlds, time periods, and alternate realities spread over a higher dimension, and are able to observe but only slightly interact with local denizens of a population. When they do appear, mortals often view them as magical, demonic, or just plain cursed. To their boring existence, that was not enough.

So from all dimensions, a few were appointed. Populating the area between worlds, these Middims as they like to call themselves (middle dimensionals), appear to mortals as a more understandable form of a godhood to more primitive or backwater worlds. And to them, all but a few seemed primitive. Recently, a new trans-dimensional being was snuffed into existence when two black holes from different universes cross paths with a roving inter-dimensional vortex. Knowing they only have roughly 100 years, give or take a decade, to give it a plaything or potentially see an entire universe implode on itself as it has a tantrum, they picked one dimension for a sacrifice with special requirements.

Perlento was a priest for Temperon. While conducting service on what could have been any other holy day of the week, the divine sent a message to all in the congregation. The face of a handsome man appeared saying that he has need of a woman suitable as a paramour and consort. In Temperon, the men value halfling women more than any other for their diminutive body, and halfling prostitutes often can charge men higher rates because of it. So a search was done for the most perfect, virgin halfling female in the land.

Ellanor lived the simple life of a halfling slave on a owned by priests of Temperon. Her parents were also kept as slaves, her father in the fields, she and her mother as maids. Generally Ellanor's life was good. Many liked her her as soon as they met her. She was attractive for her race, with bright blue eyes, naturally curly red hair, a figure that was slim but with the soft curves indicative of her kind, and her demeanor was usually pleasant. As a slave she was obedient. Her duties weren't difficult, mostly cleaning and some simple cooking was required. Occasionally she read out loud to the aging priests, who took pleasure in her calm, clear, sweet voice.

When the divine message was received by the priest and his congregation Ellenor and her mother had not actually been at services. But word spread quickly and her mother began to worry over her. Despite her nice looks Ellenor didn't flirt much... or ever, preferring to spend time with her family and a few close female friends. Ellenor's mother set her to tasks that kept her out of the site of priests and asked that she spend as much time in their quarters as possible.

Ellenor herself worried very little about the whole thing. Assuming that some other, much more talented halfling woman would be chosen. In her mind already being twenty and unmarried meant she was quickly approaching "old maid" status. She rolled her eyes at her mother's request, but agreed non-the-less. She didn't take her agreement to seriously though and would carelessly put herself in the paths of her superiors.

The priests, lead by Perlento, gathered around and brainstormed for suitable candidates. One proposed a sort of competition, but was rejected since the message sounded urgent. “The gods expect us to be efficient about this, without looking like we are not doing a suitable sacrifice.” A list of names was built, composed of unattached female halflings. Those lacking beauty was rejected. Then came the discussion about personality. Since the request said ‘paramour’ and ‘consort’, some debated one who is submissive and easy. Perlento disagreed. “We did agree to a virgin, right? If one acts too... slutty... then how can we be sure? Also we should not accept one who seem too anxious to be accepted. No, what we need is someone who seems LOYAL. Now, over the past day, who seems unmoved about all of this yet served us well?”

He was thinking of Ellanor and how she read to the elders and was never seen flirting. Over the past day it seemed her mother was trying to hide her, yet she still appear to make herself available. So after a little more debate it was decided. Perlento told some of the lower priests to go and get a suitable dress while he himself go and get her.

If was nightime when he approached Ellanor’s mother about their decision, giving her similar arguments. Knowing she really have no choice in the matter, he walked past her and went to find Ellanor. Bending down, he explained. “After a full day of discussion, we have picked you to be the consort. I will take you to a separate room and request you go to bed early, as in the morning we need to make you presentable. Once done, we will offer you to him. Do you understand? Have any questions?”

Ellanor's mother did protest but she was cautious, she couldn't afford to lose her families position. in the end there wasn't anything she could do. Defeated she stepped aside and waited silently outside of the room he was in with Ellanor. A few tears ran down her cheeks.

At first Ellanor was surprised that the priest had come just to see her. But after hearing the news her expression was more like horror. "But, sir, you can't want me! There must be someone else more... appropriate." She practically begged. "There has to be!" Ellenor couldn't believe they'd actually chosen her. She didn't see herself as anything special. And she certainly didn't see herself as someone a god would see as worthy.

For the first time that anyone could remember Ellenor hesitated to do as she was told. "Please, what could he want with me?" She asked plaintively.

Still kneeling in front of Ellanor, Perlento tried to explain. “We need someone pure. You are not attached to anyone, and in good shape and health. But beside that, this is more of a sacrifice for us, while a great opportunity for you. Those two facts go hand-and-hand.” He gets up and look down at her. “We don’t want just anyone. We need someone who shown duty and desire of service to the divines.” He walks to her side. “Otherwise, the god who gave this request will not approve. And who knows what consequences that will bring.” He takes her hand. “You on the other hand will be envied by all. A chance to be with them before death! To see and enjoy unimaginable pleasures we can’t fathom!” He starts walking forward, still holding her hand, nonverbally ordering her to follow.

There were guards posted outside of their place. Escorted to another room, a small number of human and halfling women was preparing her room while an elegant, expensive, and a little revealing dress was seen hanging on the wall. The oldest of them approached Ellanor and said, “Good evening, chosen one. We have your bedroom for tonight set up. If you have any need or want, feel free to say so. One of us will be posted with the guards outside. Tomorrow we will wake you up early, bath and give you breakfast, and dress you up for the ceremony.” She seemed flighty, with a touch of jealousy. The other women left, one extremly nervous and the other not hiding an icy stare. “Is there anything you need before retiring for bed?”

Ellanor listened patiently as Perlento spoke and she followed him with out hesitation. But the young halfling's mind was distant. She couldn't begin to imagine what was going to happen to her. Of course she hoped to be with the divines after death but she'd thought that was a long time from now. Ellanor was terrified of the idea. And she was saddened by the idea of leaving her current life and her family behind.

When they reached her new room Ellanor didn't feel any better. She hadn't had dinner yet, but she didn't think she could eat now anyway. So she politely decined to have anything. Now Ellanor just wanted everyone to go. The looks the women were giving her made Ellanor feel worse. She knew they wished they were in her place and she would have given anything to trade. Her eyes drifted to the dress. When she was alone she would take a closer look.

The one talking to her nodded with a slight bow, said “I pray then you will get a good rest”, and left. The dress was pure white. The bottom part was a short skirt that will only go half way down her thighs. The top left little to the imagination. The front had an ‘X’, and the back a single line down the middle. These connect to a collar composed of cloth and diamonds. The X and back line had small alternating emeralds and saphires, with a large ruby in the middle of the X. The skirt portion was sprinkled with golden dust.

Ellanor went to the dress. She couldn't imagine herself in it. It was far more relieving then anything she'd ever worn. But she had to admit that it was beautiful. The diamonds were really dazzling. How could a slave halfling like her ever pull those off. She reached out an unsteady hand and stroked the cloth. She had to work up a little courage to touch the diamonds. This is what she would be wearing when she met the gods.

After turning away from the dress, Ellenor changed into the night clothes that had been left for her. She crawled into bed and almost instantly started crying. She cried for her family and her life. And Ellanor cried out of fear of what was coming to her tomorrow. Eventually she fell asleep, but she tossed and turned all night.

It was early in the morning when Perlento gave the go ahead for Ellenor’s breakfast, being sent on a tray, into her room. With the try was four others who will answer her every wish, just as long as she will arrive on time for the ceremony. The four helpers, while servants much like Ellenor, had to wear better clothing than they were accustomed for this day only, with stern orders not to damage them. The jealousy of yesterday gave way to pure nerves and stress as they were bullied out of bed and ordered around by the priests. And while the freshly cooked smells of eggs, toast, and sausage was filling the room (far more than one halfling can eat), one started shaking Ellenor up with fear in her eyes, scared of screwing up. Once she ate, bathed, and put on her dress, they were ordered to take Ellenor to the sanctuary. The one waking her up was told to tell her what is expected of her when she arrived.

Perlento kept most of his focus in the sanctuary, directing what all should do. From where the image was shown, the priesthood will stand facing it, with a gap in the middle where Perlento will be. Down the middle will by others, in two columns facing each other. Ellenor should walk between them when the deity appears, hold Perlento’s hand when he officially offer her, and... she will join him however that might happen. Once that is done, and prayfully that will be it, all can retire for fellowship and leave this entire thing behind them. There was already talk of somehow giving Ellenor’s mother some sort of recognition and award during it.

Ellanor went through the motions with the other women that morning. They didn't talk much, except to give her the news about her mother. That would keep her going, knowing that her mother would be taken care of. Outwardly Ellanor was calm, but she could barely think with fear. She gave gave control to the women and let them direct her easily. She barely touched the ample breakfast. When they put the dress on her she looked down at herself and blushed, it seemed very strange to wear it.

Ellanor had to force herself to focus when she was told what would be happening in the sanctuary. Seemed simple enough, except for how she would join the deity and what exactly would come after. That was a mystery to everyone. Soon they were rushing her through the halls to the sanctuary. There she was handed over to the priests.

Perlento was at the ready. “Good, you arrived on time. Stand here.” He directed Ellenor to the far back in the middle. “When the deity appears again, walk to the front between the two line of men. Don’t be slow, but don’t be too fast. Be confident. Stand by my side. I will say a few words and then... … … join him.” He jogged to the front as everyone else got into position. And waited. And waited some more. Thee minutes later the diety appeared.

Standing over 6 feet tall, with fair skin, short blond hair, and bright blue eyes, he stood with the appearance that can make an emperor jealous with nearly blinding golden armor and a violet cloak. Behind him were two tall women with dark hair down to their knees. Around them was grassland and a building behind the women, flawless in appearance.

After Ellenor got on Perlento’s side, Perlento said, “I, high priest of Temperon, offer you Ellenor. She is one of our most gorgeous maidens, untouched, and unquestionably loyal to the priesthood. With humbleness, we plead you will accept our offering.”

“We accept, High Priest Perlento, and thank you for selecting her to be my paramour and consort.” His voice boomed through the sanctuary. He walked forward, into the sanctuary, touched the halfling’s shoulder, and walked to the other side. One both of her feet was on the grass, the portal closed. It was the last they will see Ellenor for the rest of their lives.

After the portal closed, he let go of the halfling and let out a deep sigh. “Glad that stupidity is over with. Obnoxious rituals.” The grass and environment around them vanished, replaced by hard metal and wood. From behind, where the portal once stood, a male who was either a deformed human, an oversized goblin, or perhaps both came rushing behind her with a wheelchair. The two women now had shorter hair and were in lab coats. After the ugly male lifted Ellenor into the wheelchair - while making slurpy sounds from his mouth - one of the women marched forward with a paper on a clipboard and started talking telepathically to her.

*We need to know your name medical history sexual experience pain tolerance any psychological distress you had in the past in addition to what is an ideal man and most peaceful enviroment for you* Her words flew quickly without pause through Ellenor’s mind, and after a single second she screamed, *WELL???* The deformed goblin man, his face very close to Ellenor’s face, slurped. The so-called deity by this time was sitting on a desk not there a moment ago, complaining about the bloody paperwork.

Ellanor walked confidently forward with the priest, glancing back just before the portal closed to see her home one last time.

Her mind was reeling. She gasped when the scenery changed. Ellanor was so shocked by the events that the sight of the ugly man barely phased her and she didn't fight him. This was far from what she expected. Where these women doctors? Why would the gods need doctors? The slurping next to her ear made her jump and seemed to bring her around. "M-my name?" She finally replied out loud, confused and still a little terrified. She knew it was the woman in front of her speaking, but she didn't see her mouth move. Ellanor leaned away from the ugly man. "What is this?" The place she was in now didn't represent anyone's assumptions of what the home of the divines was like.

Noticing the new comer paused without answering her questions, the woman bent down and stared directly into her eyes. *This is registration for your position as a toy.* Unlike before, where her telepathically sent thoughts flew quickly, she sent the last words very slowly. *Yes, I can read your thoughts even though I don’t know a word you are saying. Now, if you do not answer my questions, unexpected consequences may occur.* The deformed goblin-man started sniffling Ellenor’s ear. *So please, tell me at the very least what sort of man and environment you like to have or we...* Here the deformed goblin-man started to put Ellenor’s hair in his mouth, making more annoying noises, while the woman screamed into her head, *... MIGHT PUT YOU INTO YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!!! … … … By accident of course. STOP THAT!* She wacks the man with her clipboard, and he sniffles and whine at being hit and not allowed to taste Ellenor’s hair anymore.

Ellanor yelped with surprised when the woman hit the ugly man, but her shouting was still fresh in her mind. "I-I'm not sure. I guess I want..." She started to say out loud before she realized her mistake again. Her brow furrowed with concentration as she began directing her thoughts at the woman. *... I guess I would like someone handsome and strong...* Her mind created a generically handsome halfling male. As far as the environment was concerned she pictured a comfortable cabin in a setting similar to the one used during the ceremony.

*But why does that matter? Isn't that the god?* Ellanor indicted the man at the desk.

The woman’s attitude continued to be demanding and fidgety as she continue to scribble on the clipboard. *Fine. Don’t speak and just send thoughts. It does not matter. A good looking halfling. Well, Kern is a midget, so that is a plus. He will do your training and prepping you for it. Though he is ugly and dirty. There is no gods here, ignorant little girl. Just us and them. And I won’t call them gods either. You will be summoned when we are ready to give you to it and Kern says your orgasmic enough* She stop writing and looking at the deformed goblin man says, *Send her now to Kern for physical prep!*

The man got behind the wheelchair and yelled, “VROOM!” as he ran with the wheelchair in front of him. Either he did not care or very ignorant of Ellenor’s well being as he turned corners hard - while screaming “SCREETCH!” - and was moving entirely too fast. Meanwhile the new and morphing world around her opened up. The place over all looked like some over sized giant prison from a twisted architect's mind. Entire rooms, bridges, and furniture build and deconstructed quickly by themselves as needed; the place was in constant flux. She saw beings and creatures of all sorts, from bipeds to insects her size to a towering creature several stories tall.

Eventually the roller coaster ride ended as the driver of the wheelchair entered a room. In front of her was a man, back to her, a little taller than her own height. To her right, on the ground, arms tied to the ground was a naked woman. Tears was going down her face, yelling and squealing, while some machine was going in and out of her vagina. Her entire body was in constant motions, especially the legs.

The new man, Kern, turned around. He was dressed in what might have once been a fine suit, now dirty and with holes. He seems to be either a very tall halfling or a very short human. His hair had bald spots, but where he did had hair, it was shoulder long, dirty, and unkept. The deformed man lifted the wheelchair into a tilt, causing Ellenor to plop on the floor. He then leaped in front of her, blabbled something out of his slurping mouth to Kern, and Kern just yelled, “NYAAHHH!” at him with a wave. As the deformed run ran away with the wheelchair, Kern walked forward and started petting Ellenor on the head, letting out soft cooing sounds.
