Caleb Volker had big ambition. He wanted to rule all the land in the world. So far, he had been successful in conquering the dwarfs land making them his subject equal that of his human subjects. His thirst for world domination did not cease. He wanted more. It came to pass that he heard of a land so mystic and intriguing that he knew he must have it. Sending his scouts to spy or gather information on this land, he soon learnt that the land belonged to a colony of elves. In fact, his scouts barely got out of the place in one piece due to the elf’s arcane ability to shoot arrows with deadly precision.

Caleb ordered a battalion of knights and archers to storm the elven land and kill the elves’ army of sharp shooting archers. The battle was a total failure. His army was defeated in the first 2 hours of the attack, none survived. Enraged by the defeat, Caleb knew there must be a way to penetrate their strong defence. He had never suffered defeat, nor would he back down on attacking the elven land. He knew then that in order to take over it, careful planning and plotting would be the best course of action.

Studying the map that he had obtained from his scouts, it appeared that the elven land was well protected from all sides. A large group of elves were stationed all over to thwart the strongest of armies in penetrating. As he gathered more information, he learnt that the elves’ holt was protected by a blanket of magical mist or wasps that would warn them of any dangers. The wasps would aid them in battle by flying to the enemy in huge numbers disorienting them giving the elves archers the chance to shoot arrows at them while their enemies were busy swatting away the wasps. This combination made the elves archers almost invincible.

He smiled when a devious plan formed in his head. He ordered his blacksmith to make masks for his troops and to make catapults and rammers. Next he ordered his men to train day and night under extreme conditions. It went on for a few weeks. Caleb’s new army was ready to invade the elven holt. All he needed now was strategy.

In the elven kingdom, Saphrey, the elf king and arch mage had learnt of Caleb’s plot and the building of his new army. Fearing for the safety of his people and his land, he consulted his legion of wise men for a solution to stop the impending attack. The wise men advised him that his best course of action would be an alliance in marriage. His daughter was after all of age to be married. It would be wise for him to offer his daughter’s hand to the human ruler.

The king pondered over the wise men’s advice for a few days. His heart was heavy. The thought of giving his daughter’s hand to a brute like Caleb tore him to pieces. And if he did not, what hope did his kingdom have against such a man whose ambition burned like wild fire? They were blessed with the protection of the wasps but that alone was not enough. How he wished that the tree spirits Oakheart, Kin Tree and Tall Tree were by their side. Perhaps, he should send word to these tree spirits to come to their aid while his men stalled the attack. Yes, he should do just that. Without wasting time, he summoned his most trusted winged messenger to send an urgent message to the Tree Spirits. It flew post haste.

The moment the winged messenger had left, battle horns were heard. The brute had began his attack. The wasps did not affect his army as they had masks on their faces and their armour was thick. The wasps had no effect on them. The human’s army marched forward gaining slowly gaining ground. The situation was most dire.

Left without a choice, Saphrey stepped forward and using his magical ability to seek an audience with Caleb and it was granted.

Saphrey offered his daughter’s hand in marriage to Caleb and in return, Caleb would not attack his people and take over their land. Caleb thought about the proposal for awhile. His intention in conquering the elven land was to have an elf woman be his wife or concubine. Since the elf king had offered his daughter, what more could he want? Caleb agreed and thus, the elven princess was presented to him the moment Caleb ordered his troops to retreat.

Waiting in his castle for the elven princess to be presented to him, Caleb grew impatient and began to think that the deal he made with the elven king was a ruse on the elven's part.

His blood began to boild as the minutes ticked by and the promised elven princess was not in sight. Rising from his throne, he barked an order for his attendant to come before him. Soon, a petite man stood before him asking Caleb what he wanted him to do.

Caleb was about to give orders to gather the troops to launch another attack on the elves when the door to his throne room was swung open. A hooded figure with the grace of a swan walked in. He was immediately appeased when he saw the figure. It was the elven princess.
