Why had she agreed to do this?

Every other night, Persia was at Aprikot, the club that she worked at, and usually on her night off she liked to relax and watch a movie at home. But the other two girls she was with, also waitresses at ApriKot, had told her she needed to go out. She had been hesitant, even outright said no in the beginning. Persia was too shy for her own good, you see. She had always been like that, even when she wasn't a she. As a he, Persia, otherwise known at Peter back then, had been too uncomfortable in that body to interact. She had felt repulsive, unattractive, made fun of, and only after her operations had she made any real progress.

The progress was slow, however, and Clarissa and Marie were hell bent to move her along. They had never heard her utter a word about a boyfriend, and they knew just how upset with herself she was. What she didn't see was what they saw... Persia was the prettiest male to female trans they had simply laid eyes on. Sure, she had a few operations, but they all had. And it was time they helped her realize it, or helped her find a man that made it known.

So off they went to the hottest club in New York after making sure her make up and outfit were perfect, an adorable white Empress as the theme was white and pink heels, pushing her down the street until they were out the door, and she couldn't turn back now. They settled at the table, getting a few drinks for themselves and allowing the youngest to take her time getting comfortable, and then out to the dance floor they went.

The beauty of this club was that it wasn't a tranny club, and no one had to now who they were. For tonight, they could just go out and be who
they wanted to be and have fun. And for now, that was what they were doing. As they stuck close, Persia allowed herself to let loose a little and dance with them, laughing at their jokes playfully while she let the music run through her body.

After a while she excused herself so she could sit and relax her feet, hurrying to the bar for a drink and slipping the money over the counter, fingers sliding through her golden curls while she waited for her drink so she could sit back down at their table for a few minutes.

It had been a bad week.

Rave wasn't one to complain, but he had an overwhelming sense that his entire life was starting to go into a downward spiral. It all began on Monday morning when he awoke to find his girlfriend's belongings missing from their apartment, seeming to have disappeared over night. Worse yet, she was no where to be found and the only thing she seemed to have left behind was a note that read in big, bold, black letters: I'm leaving you.

This wasn't necessarily a surprise to Rave as he saw it coming a month in advance, but that didn't make it any easier. A thousand choked up voicemails later, he finally resigned himself to his bedroom for the remainder of the day where he sat in quiet contemplation, trying to pinpoint where exactly things went sour. Needless to say, he didn't come to any conclusion.

To make matters worse, he was skipped over for another promotion. He had made up his mind that he was doomed to watch his inferiors surpass him and there was nothing that he could say or do to change that. In the corporate world, the one who kissed the most ass was the one who ended up with their own office. Frankly, Rave would rather die than be another corporate suck up.

The week was sprinkled with a few other bad moments here and there, but most were minor. All the same, as Rave sank deeper and deeper into his own private hell, his friends made one last desperate attempt at pulling him up from the pits. It was Friday. They insisted. Nothing capped off a terrible week like a few cold beers with a few good friends. How could he resist?

And so they were all, dressed to the nines, with every intent of not going home with the person they came there with. The night started early and by the time they ended up at Aprikot, Rave was already tipsy enough to not care whether or not he was making an ass out of himself. It was that special kind of drunk, lying somewhere between where charm is born and chivalry dies. Rave fancied himself a Casanova even without alcohol, but with those few little shots of liquid courage coursing through his veins, he felt like he could win anyone over.

And that's when he saw her, all star bright and tongue-tied. She was beautiful and perfect. For a moment, and only a moment, Rave felt starstruck staring at her from across the bar. Pulling away from his friends and drowning out the churning music from the speakers overhead, he came up beside Persia, pulling out his wallet and leaning across the bar.

"I need a White Russian and a..." Rave paused, turning slightly to face Persia. "What will you be having?"

The last things Persia would have called herself was beautiful or perfect. There were plenty of guys at the club who had hit on her, but she had simply blushed and shied away and returned to the back room thinking they were only teasing. Most of the time they weren't, however Persia wasn't one to see that. After all, in Persia's mind, there were plenty of things still wrong with her.

So, when someone spoke to her, she didn't respond. She didn't think they were talking to her at all. Her mouth opened to speak as the bartender looked at her expectingly, and then back at the man. Her head turned with him to see the taller man standing beside her, and she looked a little surprised. How was she to work herself out of this one? Ever the wall flower, she blushed perfusely, embarrassed that it looked like she had outright ignored the man who had offered to buy her a drink. "I..." Oh, it was positively embarrassing now. She leaned in towards the bar tender, standing on her toes to make it over the counter and called out her drink so he could hear her over all the music. "A gin and tonic, please."

It's funny how voice lessons and estrogen can cancel out the way she had sounded most of her life. She sounded like a woman, that was for sure, soft spoken and quiet. Everything about her was convincing enough. She was tall for a woman, but short for a man, and she had always been naturally skinny her entire life. Perhaps she should have looked at Rave and felt a little better about herself, but all she could thing of was just how... how bad this could get. She saw it at their own club, guys hooking up with the girls when they were positively drunk and had no idea what they were getting into... and it always ended sour.

And what was she to say now to get herself out of this mess now? Never before had Persia had a drink bought for her, or at least accepted one. He was good looking, tall and handsome, and his voice was deep... how could anyone turn someone like him away or ignore him? Without realizing she was doing it, she was smoothing out her dress and avoiding eye contact with him, nervously running her fingers through her hair while she waited... she had to be positively awkward! So finally she turned her head to look at him again, offering a sheepish smile. "Thank you," she said, putting her manicured hands on the bar top while she moved to slide and sit on the bar stool, crossing her long legs. "Can I buy you a drink after to thank you?" That would be perfectly all right, wouldn't it?

For someone who worked at a bar, the poor girl was positively clueless with how these things worked.

Despite all the nervousness, Rave just smiled. In a way, he did find it endearing, albeit rather awkward. "No, no, you don't have to do that," He said as the bartender gave him his drink. "Just consider it a gift, yeah?" It was clear that she was just as new at this as he was. He could tell by her reaction, all those nervous tics and obvious attempts to somehow make herself look prettier now that someone was actually talking to her. The dress straightening, the avoidance of eye contact. Even though Rave was just as nervous, he kept his cool.

The city was howling outside, alive and well with neon lights and all the usual nightlife types crowding the streets. Generally, this wasn't Rave's idea of a good time. He didn't go to bars to pick up girls. He didn't go out to get drunk and slobber all over himself like some sort of Neanderthal. He was beyond that. All the same, here he was with this beautiful girl, leaning up against the bar and trying his best to coax her into... well, something. He wasn't sure exactly what. He didn't expect to talk her into going back to his place, but he knew that was never out of the question in these sorts of situations.

Although she was definitely beautiful, there was something different about her. This didn't dissuade Rave in anyway. If anything, it made him even more interested. So, he straightened his tie and took another sip from his glass before extending his hand out toward her. "I'm Rave, by the way," He said. "And you are?"

Even with his lowered inhibitions, he wasn't relying on age old pickup lines or barraging her with compliments. That was definitely a start, he thought.

"But I--," she looked a little surprised when he told her not to repay him for the drink, unsure if she should take that as a good thing, or a bad thing. Maybe now that he had seen her up close, he wasn't interested, and didn't want to drink with her… but she tried to play it off and off a smile. "Well, then, thank you."

It was a trait she desired… to be outgoing and charming like this man. Why would he take such interest in a girl like her, awkward and far less prettier than the other girls in the club? Her thoughts were taken away, however, because she had other things to focus on.

He was charming… and he was handsome. She tried to keep her eyes off of him and seem natural, but Persia just wasn't a natural dater. She glanced at him from the side with her dark brown eyes from between her blond locks that she had pulled over her one shoulder and curled into the cleavage of her breast, looking away as quickly as possible when her eyes caught his. Her gaze turned towards the dance floor to find her friends as the drinks were passed their way, and then back to him as he extended his hands and took his drink.

Of course she took her drink in her well manicured hand as well, the other on the hem of her short skirt to be sure it didn't slide up too far as she slipped off the bar stood to turn and look at him finally, standing at her full height again. With her free hand, she took his in her own, her grip soft as he face lit with a smile. "Persia. It's nice to meet you." She lifted her glass a little in a toast, gently clanking it against his before she drank just a little. She held it in front of her, standing there for just a moment while she thought of what to say to him. "Are you… here with friends? Or alone?" For a moment, she wondered if she should ask him to go with her to sit down somewhere, by that might have been over doing it… She shouldn't get ahead of herself.

"Friends," He said, taking a quick glance over his shoulder at his buddies. They were all shooting glances back at him, snickering and shaking their heads as they watched him. Either they couldn't believe he was actually going through with approaching this girl or they knew something he didn't. Either way, he didn't let that bother him. "But that's okay. They can survive with one man down."

They can survive with one man down."

Even when she was standing at her full height, she was shorter than he was. Letting go of her hand, he lowered his head and smiled, scratching the scruff on his chin. Another sip, another awkward pause. Barroom flirting always fell down to that awkward routine, but Rave could tell she was interested just by the way she was acting. Needless to say, this just made Rave test his luck.

He moved in a bit closer to her, an arm stretching back along the bar as if he was putting his arm around her. Tilting his head slightly, he said, "What about you, Persia? I'm guessing you're here with friends, right?" He paused, taking another sip from his glass. "Of course, if you did happen to be alone or you were willing to blow your friends off for a bit, I'd say maybe we should get a table." He grinned slightly, sending her a quick wink.

It might have been the alcohol or it might have been the truth, but he didn't think she minded all this flirting.

As he glanced over his shoulder, Persia stood on her tip toes to look with him towards the group of men, and the snickers made her uncomfortable. Maybe they saw what Rave didn't… and she looked away while she began fidgeting with her hair again. Perhaps it was better if she went back to the girls and pretended like none of this had ever happened before, but she was taken away from those thoughts as he spoke to her again, and she smiled a little with unsureness and drank her own cocktail. It was hard not to be interested in a guy that was just so good looking, who seemed to have taken interested in a girl like her.

She could see Maria and Clarissa from here, dancing their hearts out and having and good time, and good thing they hadn't come to find her yet or they would have utterly embarrassed her in front of Rave. It was kind of like taking your older siblings to the club with you… it was just awkward. So that, mixed with Rave's friends, mixed with the fact she didn't know what to talk about, made for a big awkward silence that made her look around while her head moved a little to the music, too absorbed with watching the dancers as Rave's arm moved in behind her in order to get himself closer.

When she did notice the proximity, she certainly didn't mind it.

"I was actually forced to come out with my friends," she said, and she laughed a little to herself. She flicked her curly blond locks over her shoulder and looked back towards the dance floor again to indicate they were there. A tinge of pink appeared on her cheeks at his suggestion, and she bit her lower lip as she seemed to contemplate it, her dark eyes down cast before she nodded her head. "All right, they don't seem to miss me anyways." She looked at him again with a little smile on her face, and then off she went towards the quieter side of the club with all the tables to set her drink down and slide into the booth.

As she sat down, Rave slid into the booth across from her. "Well, aren't you glad they forced you to come along now?" He said, obviously teasing her. He even went as far as to send her a wink from across the table, taking another long sip from his drink. With things a bit more quiet, he no longer had any reason to lean toward her or get close in any way. He had to admit, that part was disappointing.

Still, he couldn't really complain, now could he?

He was sure his friends would be wondering where he was before too long, but he didn't really care. As far as he was concerned, the rest of his night belonged to Persia. "So, I hope this isn't too forward or anything, but you don't have a boyfriend, do you? I don't want some guy challenging to a dual to the death or anything over a pretty girl," He said, offering her another wide grin. "No offense to you, of course. I just forgot to bring my sword and all. I wouldn't stand a chance in a dual. God knows I'm too handsome to get sliced up by a jealous boyfriend." Narcissism, whether joking or not, always broke the ice.

Call it a hunch or call it wishful thinking, but Rave had a good feeling about all this. She was beautiful, for sure, even with the sneaking suspicion that there was something a little bit different about her. Rave didn't see that as a bad thing. She didn't seem like your typical clubber girl, out chasing men and willing to jump into the sack right away. He'd had enough one night stands and girls more concerned with having fun than committing to anything real to last him a lifetime. Of course, he was jumping ahead of himself again. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a pack of cigarettes, plucking one and placing it between his lips.

"Smoke?" He asked, flicking his lighter and taking in a long drag.

She laughed softly but blushed all the same, nodding her head. There was no point in lying about it. The man in front of her seemed nice enough, charming and handsome... what about tonight could she complain about? She lifted her glass to her glosses lips and drank from the straw, leaning slightly to the side on her hand while he legs crossed under the table. "I don't know," she teased a little, putting a finger on her chin while she seemed to think about it. "I guess we'll just have to see what else will happen tonight. I'd hate to jinx myself..."

Her dark brown eyes, which were now visable in the brighter light, looked up towards a waiter and smiled a little as they set down a few snacks for them to nibble on while they drank, but his words brought her back to attention. "Hm?" She slipped one of the peanuts into her mouth, blushing although she was unable to help but laugh at his joke. "He uses a shot gun, so you're toast," she joked a little, adverting her gaze down to the peanuts while a grin spread over her face. She let that hang for a minute, and the looked up at him again under her lashes. "No, I don't have a boyfriend. I've been single for... a long time."

It was embarrassing to admit that. Here she was, out with this guy who'd taken interest in her, who'd surely want to know why she'd been single or think something was just absolutely wrong with her. "So, where are you from?" Most people weren't from New York. People seemed to move in or move out, but rarely was anyone actually raised here. She looked at the offered cigarette and shrugged her shoulders, her thing fingers taking one of the stick to put between her own lips. She wasn't much of a smoker, but when she did go out and drink a little, she always seemed to find herself smoking.

At first, Rave's heart skipped a beat when she said her boyfriend used a shotgun. All at once, any and all hope of this being more than a 'Hey, you're cool, let's hang out while we're both here' situation flew out the window... and then, of course, Rave once again found himself jumping to conclusions. "Well, thank god for that," He said. "I'd hate to wake up in a gutter. Getting picked apart by vultures doesn't sound like a good way to spend the weekend."

Rave leaned across the table, holding his lighter underneath her cigarette. With a flick of his thumb, sparks shot up and that brilliant red glow lit up, smoke rising in the already smoky room. A gentleman always lights a lady's cigarette, after all. "Omaha, Nebraska," He told her, reclining back against his side of the booth once again. "Born there, raised there, left there. How about you?"

Admittedly, the fact that he now knew she was single made Rave a bit more relaxed. Any butterflies that may or may not have been in his stomach had all flown the coop. It also happened to make him a even more interested than he already was. The grin on his lips was curling even wider as he took a long drag from his cigarette before dipping it into the ashtray. "Wait, no, let me guess," He said, raising a hand to rub the stubble on his chin. "Well, you're definitely too pretty to be from New Jersey. You seem like the type that moved from one big city to another. Maybe Chicago. Maybe somewhere further west. Los Angeles?"

Suddenly, Rave realized he was staring her dead in the eyes and he couldn't quite bring himself to look away. Needless to say, he hoped she didn't mind.

She leaned forward into the flame of his lighter and breathed in, sitting back when the cherry was lit and taking a drag. She exhaled slowly, as if savoring the feeling of the tobacco as it soothed her nerves a bit. She leaned back against the wall of the booth, relaxing there while a little smile curled over her lips and she laughed again, tilting her head back. Flicking the tiny bit of ash from her cigarette, she looked up at him again, seemingly surprised as she heard where he was from. No wonder he'd left for the big city. What was in Nebraska, anyway? Absolutely nothing, sort of like where she was from. She opened her mouth to respond, but she stopped and sat still, turning her head away while she exhaled a bit of smoke again.

He was flattering, with all his compliments about how pretty she was, and she nervously reached up again to touch and roll one of the tendrils of her hair around her finger. "Nope," she responded with a smile, taking the last drink of her gin and tonic and slipping it to the end of the table, avoiding his gaze one she'd realized he was staring at her dead on. It wasn't that she minded, she actually sort of liked it, but it was out of habit that she looked away.

"Do you give up?" She smiled and looked up at him again, finally meeting his gaze as she put the butt of the cigarette into her mouth and grinned a little, then let it rest in the ash tray. "My grandfather immigrated to Canada from Finland, so I was born in Canada, but my parents moved to South Dakota when I was still in diapers. So don't worry, I'm not looking for a green card. We were kind of like neighbors, though."

She picked up her cigarette again and paused, looking up at the waiter who had come to take her drink. "Another gin and tonic please," she said to him, and then she looked at Rave again. "Do you work here then, or are you visiting?"

"I live right outside of the city," He said, pushing his bangs out of his eyes. "It might as well be in the city, in all honesty. I work in Manhattan, though. I'm in advertising, for better or for worse." Each sentence came out between a drag from his cigarette. When Rave caught himself staring again, all he could do was smile.

Dipping his cigarette down in the ashtray and taking one final gulp from his drink before pushing his glass aside, he took a deep breath before standing up out of the blue. "So, I hope I'm not being too forward or anything," He said, moving around the table to sit down beside her. "But in case you didn't notice, I can't keep from staring at you."

His arm went around her, casually. He moved in a bit closer. Admittedly, the alcohol was making this a bit easier than he might have anticipated. "And I'm really kind of hoping you might be interested in hanging out together sometime, outside of a bar setting and all," He bit his lower lip, his eyes meeting her eyes. His brow cocked slightly as a grin curled at the edges of his lips. "...and I'd really want to kiss you now, if you'd let me."

All this came out in a whirlwind, before Persia could even get a word in edgewise. All that charm and small talk built up to this, whether or not the timing was right. Obviously, Rave was praying his timing wasn't off.

"Advertising? Really? In New York, I can see that as being quite lucrative," she said, taking a last drag from her cigarette and putting it out. Her job wasn't anything special, and therefore she didn't really want to admit what she did to keep herself barely making it in a big city like this. Waitressing and bar tending wasn't as impressive as advertising... but it was something she could do until she eventually found something better. For those reasons, she chose to stay quiet, and when she looked at him, finding his eyes on her again, she couldn't help but blush and look away.

He did get her attention though when he stood. Was he leaving suddenly? For a second, she felt panicked... but she couldn't say a word, so she simply watched him. Thankfully, he sat... but not so thankfully, he sat beside her. So much for the feeling of relief, because she just felt more nervous and panicked. Those slender hands moved to her hair again to nervously twirl a curl around her finger, sliding away from her against the wall a bit as she looked up at him under her lashes. "I... I um," she stuttered softly, and she looked up at the waiter as he brought her drink, looking to find her bag in order to find her wallet. She nearly spilled it, but she handed the waiter the money and then looked at her glass. Of course she wanted to see him again, and as she turned her head to say so, he seemed to want to kiss her.

Yes... kiss her.

"Persia!"

She jumped as she heard the voice next to them, looking up from Rave's face that had leaned so close to her's, and she looked like the little girl caught with her hand in the cookie jar. The two women grinned knowingly, but they knew how nervous their friend would be with a man this close... "Where have you been? Flirting with boys instead of dancing with us?"

"You said you were coming back!"

"I was!" she said quickly, looking at them, and then at Rave. "It's just that I met Rave, and we sat to have a drink while I got off my feet... I'll be there in a minute."

"Yeah, yeah," they said, laughing at her embarrassment before going to the bar to find something to drink, glancing back from time to time, and Persia blushed madly.

"Sorry," she said softly, then smiled up at him apologetically. She moved her hands into her lap and pulled down her dress a little, then looked up at him. "I um... here." She reached for a napkin and a pen from her purse, leaning her head down as she wrote her name and number on the piece of cloth, and slid it over to him. "I would love to... hang out again. Outside the bar, like you said." She drank from the glass on the table, then smiled a little. "Maybe next time I can buy you a drink."

And she was gone, just like that, leaving him holding a napkin with her number and not much else. For a moment, Rave was blindsided by how quick everything just happened, but he didn't let that bother him. He was back with his friends in no time, money burning a hole in his pocket and the night still too young to give up on.

The morning after, of course, Rave woke up with the worst hangover he'd had in his entire life.

His apartment was a wreck. Clothes were strewn everywhere, lamps knocked over and beer bottles stacked up to the ceiling. An ashtray overflowing with cigarette buttes. He was wrapped in an American flag, completely naked and with no recollection of what had happened the night before. After a few minutes fumbling through his medicine cabinet for aspirin and staring blankly into the mirror, it all came back to him. After they had left Aprikot, the gang decided to take the party to Rave's apartment. They all fell into a drunken haze and god only knows where his friends had wound up. All that was fine and dandy, but what he remembered the most was a beautiful girl. What was her name again?

After standing in the shower for a few minutes, mostly soaking and barely bathing, he remembered her name was Persia. Then he remembered the napkin she had given to him. Then he remembered that her number was on it. "Shit!" He exclaimed, quickly hopping out of the shower and racing into his bedroom. He stumbled around until he finally came across the pair of jeans he was wearing the night before. He rustled through the pants, going through every pocket at least a dozen times. "Shit, shit, shit... C'mon..." He went to his end table, flipping through his wallet. He opened every door and looked under everything. The napkin was nowhere to be found... until he finally saw it on his coffee table, reduced to nothing more than a coaster for beer. The numbers had all been faded away by spills and condensation. With a long sigh, Rave slinked back on his couch, lighting a cigarette. "Well," He thought. "I guess I won't be seeing her again."

An hour later, he was dressed and out the door, gone out on the streets of New York City. When night was over and all the neon lights had turned off for the night, New York was a very different place. The differences between day and night made the city look like two different realities, connected but completely apart. Moving to the curb and throwing up his hand, Rave yelled out as loud as he could, "Taxi!"

At least it was the weekend.

Boy, had the girls practically ripped her a new one. When she had returned to the bar to be with them, they had asked her why she'd left. They'd come here for her, after all, to find her a good looking guy to send her home with, and yet she had left him to come back to her friends. For a moment, she stood there dumb founded, having thought she was supposed to come back. For a second, she looked back at Rave, who had gone back to doing things as if she'd never existed, and she decided she wasn't going to bother again. She'd already made a fool of herself once.

Instead, she returned home for the night, slipping off her heels and trudging through the small apartment to the bedroom. How could she forget to ask him for his number? Depression waved over her as she looked up at the ceiling, and then she moved to get ready for bed. Luckily, when she woke in the morning she didn't have quite the hang over that Rave did. She showered and put on a pencil skirt and blouse, tugging on a light coat once she finished her make up and hair, and out the door she went. The girls had decided to meet for lunch, no doubt to tell her how stupid she was for leaving Rave's side... not that she needed it rubbed in her face anymore. He had seemed interested in her, and he was too good looking for her not to be, but she'd messed all that up.

She groaned softly at the thought, lightly kicking the door in front of her as she locked it and smacking it with her hand bag. She looked just as depressed as she felt about it for a second, but she composed herslef as the neighbor went by with his dog, looking at her with a strange expression.

"Stupid door gets stuck," she said with a smile to him, and then finished locking it to leave the building, her shoes clicking against the pavement. Shouldering her bag once more, she slipped to the side of the road and put up her hand for one of the yellow cab, the voice of the man behind her making her jump just a little.

"So sorry, I didn't see yo..." As she turned, she realized who it was, and her jaw nearly hit the pavement. "You!" she said startled, looking up at Rave, and he mood seemed to instantly brighten.

If there was ever a reason to believe in God, now was one of those times, and Persia felt a slight lapse in her lifetime of disbelief. Divine intervention seemed to be a beautiful thing.

At first, Rave was annoyed by the woman who completely cut him off. She had practically jumped right in front of him. When she turned around and he realized who she was, his face lit up as he exclaimed, "You!"

Almost immediately, and it had to be out of impulse alone, Rave moved toward her and let his arms go around her. He pulled her in for a hug before letting her go, his hands remaining on her waist. "You know," He said, raising an eyebrow. "I wasn't too sure I'd be seeing you again. What in the world are you doing here?"

The taxi driver, of course, was getting frustrated with the two of them. With a little snarl and something that sounded awfully angry, he yelled out the window, "Get the hell in here, willya?!" Needless to say, Rave quickly moved away from Persia, opening the door and looking over his shoulder at her, "C'mon. We can share the cab, yeah?"

She was about answer his question when the rather rude taxi driver ruined their moment. She had put her hands on his shoulders, but she'd pulled away to get into the cab and slide over as quickly as she could. Normally, she would have be rather ticked off about someone talking to her like that, but right now she couldn't really care at all.

"I live just around the corner, at the Avis building" she finally said, making sure her skirt was smoothed out. "I need to go to Broadway and Pearl, please," she said, opening her purse to pull out her wallet. It was instinct to do so, but she looked back at him with a smile on her face, excited to see him. The usual shyness was gone now that adrenaline was running through her, hardly able to contain how happy she was. "You didn't think you'd see me again? I'm hurt you weren't going to call..." Well, part of it was true, but she was trying to act amused by the whole thing, slightly breathless from rushing around, so she leaned back towards the door to face him, her hand reaching up toward her neck to take hold of the pendant on her necklace. "And you, what were you doing back there?"

"I lost your number somewhere in the night," He admitted as he settled into the cab, letting out one last long yawn before sending her another big grin. "And since you didn't get mine, y'know, I figured it was a lost cause. I would have missed you, you know." Rave was very open about a lot of things. He didn't let himself get embarrassed often and if he did it was usually embarrassment for someone else, not himself. Thus, once settled into the seat comfortably, he didn't think twice before he let his arm drape over Persia's shoulders. "Thank god I decided to walk a few blocks before calling a cab, eh?"

He had no idea where she was going and he didn't bother telling the cabby where he was going. It didn't matter, as far as he was concerned. "So, I'll be honest here, I was just going out to get breakfast, but I don't think we can just chalk this little meeting up to coincidence, yeah? So, just to avoid getting struck my lightning or having some other divine intervention later on down the line, what say you come with me?"

"Oh, one of those nights, huh?" She smiled a little as she chanced a glance at him... and then she realized how much more open things seemed to be with Rave. She felt oddly comfortable around him rather than uncomfortable and shy. She felt embarrassed and shy, sure, but not like usual. Usually she just clammed up and sat in the corner blushing furiously, but there was just something about Rave that make it okay for him to put his arm around her, and although she turned her head away to hide her blush, she couldn't help but enjoy it. "Mm... I'm sure you would have made it through if that was the case. You had plenty of fun without me, didn't you?" She looked back up at him through her lashes, the blush still apparent on the blonde's cheeks.

But in the midst of it all, she spotted his phone in the pocket of his jacket and reached around to get it so that she could program her number into it this time. And when she finished, she dialed her phone, which rang in her leather bag. As she handed his phone back to him with a coy smile on her lips, she put her own phone to her ear and looked up at him. "Do you have it now?" Her smile grew wider, and she put the phone away as he asked the question, looking at the cab driver through the mirror as he ignored them and drove on, and then back at Rave.

"Well, I'm... flattered you'd ask but it's... I was going to meet my friends for lunch, we do it every week." She couldn't possibly cancel, could she? While everything else screamed to take the chance and run along with him on whatever crazy adventure he might have, she had already made plans. She bit her lip and looked downwards, feeling a bit guilty for saying no but unsure of what else she could say.

"Trust me, I would have had more fun with you," He replied, leaving her to assume whether or not it was an innuendo. With his arm still around her, he scooted a bit closer to her, just as she pulled his phone out of his pocket. As she entered in her number, he grinned and tilted his head, "Yeah, I guess I do have it. I'll make sure not to lose it this time. Promise."

As she explained why she couldn't accompany him, he bit his lower lip and lowered his head. "Well, I'll make a deal with you," He said, looking back up slightly. "You call and cancel with them, alright? Tell them something came up and suddenly you can't make it. Tell them a gorgeous man just walked into your life and wants nothing more than to take you out for pancakes. He'll even pay and spend the rest of the day with you, if you'll allow it. Tell them you're very, very attracted to him and you're going to go ahead and take him up on that offer..."

He paused, letting his slight pout turn to an even slighter grin. "...and if you do all that, I promise you won't regret it at all and we can even go ahead and call it our first date. It'll be full of romance, swooning, and it might just give us the opportunity to have a second date sometime," With his arm still around her, his eyebrow slightly cocked, he gave her a quick wink. How could she say no to that? He had to admit, her commitment to her friends was cute. That was an endearing quality. "It's just that I'd very much like to keep you for the rest of the day lest you get away from me again, your number disappears from my phone, and I have to go ride every taxi in New York City until I find you. So, what do you say? Deal?"

"You're very humble, you should really be more self confident," she managed to say between his words, her blush deepening every time he added a little bit more... but it was so very tempting to just say yes the more he spoke. His ego was really something to be envious of... She was able to look him in the eye, but she lifted her hand to just barely put a hand to her mouth while she tried to cover her little shy smile. Finally, she gently hit his chest with her hand as she pushed him a way, that smile never fading from her lips, although she did turn her head away while she turned her phone's display on and looked for the right number. It was too hard to say no to a guy she found attractive, who felt the same way towards her... men like that were too hard to find, it seemed, and she'd been looking for a while.

"Is this how you get every other girl to go on dates with you?" she asked offhandedly, pushing the button and looking up towards the window as she called. "Natalie," she said suddenly as her friend answered the phone, trying to muster up an excuse as quickly as she could. "I'm so sorry, Natalie, I'm not going to be able to make it to lunch today... I know, I know, just please apologize to the girls... sick? No, no, nothing like... Clarissa? What do you mean? Oh, I really don't care about their stupid gossip, really. Oh, tell her to stuff it then. I'll see you next week, all right, or call me for dinner? Mmm... yeah, thank you," she said, and she pulled the phone away from her ear to turn it off and look up at him.

"I guess I'm all yours for the day... so I hope you can live up to your promises." She smiled a little, putting her phone in her purse before she looked out the window again, feeling a little more nervous now that this was a... a date.

"If this was the way I picked up girls, do you really think I'd actually tell you?" He said through a toothy grin, obviously teasing her. As she chatted on the phone, canceling her plans and fumbling with halfhearted excuses, he couldn't help but tease her even more by whispering against her ear, "Go ahead. Tell them you're on a date. You're already falling head over heels and you just can't help yourself but to cancel on them," When she finally hung up and told him she was all his for the doors, he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, saying, "Well, good. I would have been pretty disappointed otherwise."

He fell back to his side of the taxi, his arm still draped across the back of the seat so that it almost wrapped around her shoulders. Looking over at her with a half cocked eyebrow, he said, "So, breakfast? Any preferences or would you rather me pick a place for us?"

Admittedly, Rave was more nervous than he was letting on. This wasn't something he tended to do often (or ever). Despite all his cockiness, he was doing his best to keep the butterflies in his stomach at bay.

As he whispered in her ear, she felt her breath catch in her throat, her cheeks burn with a blush, and she couldn't help but tilt her ear towards his lips. It stirred something inside of her, and she felt her hand instantly move to her lap and clench there, as if willing the feeling to go away. "No, Natalie, it's just I've got an appointment..." she said softly into the receiver, unable to tear herself away from him even though he was teasing her with those cool whispers that made a shiver run down her spine... "I have to meet up with someone, I forgot and made plans with him at the same time and... oh, Natalie, I have to go!"

So she closed the phone quickly as she heard the other begin to laugh, and touched the side of her face where he'd kissed he on the cheek. Oh, she was so, so nervous now! Shifting a little bit, she leaned up toward the window and curled one of her curly tendrils around her finger, feeling as if he heart might beat right out of her chest as she dropped her phone and leaned over to get it. "Your pick," she managed to say, but she sat back up as she realized she'd dropped it right between his legs, and it was probably best not to reach between them...

"Do you um... mind picking that up?" she murmured, pointing down at the pink touch phone.

Looking down at his lap, the phone between his legs, he simply smiled before looking back up at her with a cocked eyebrow. "Yeah, sure," He said, picking it up from his lap and handing it back to her. "It's just the first date, after all. Can't do anything too crazy, can we?"

There was certainly some sort of bond between the two of them, regardless of all their mutual nervousness. Some sort of chemical attraction had taken hold and filled Rave's head with that euphoric feeling that only comes out when you're really enjoying yourself. Rave, needless to say, was really enjoying himself. There was something about the girl, which he couldn't quite put his finger on, that made him want more. The kiss on the cheek wasn't just to shock her or test his boundaries, it was more like something he actually couldn't help but do. All of this was the last thing on Rave's mind right then, though. He didn't bother to overanalyze the situation. Instead, he scooted a little bit closer to her and kept his eyes peering toward hers.

When the taxi finally pulled over, the two exited the vehicle. Rave, of course, insisted on paying the cabby. Soon enough, they were walking down the sidewalk, the early morning light of New York City seeming to shine down on them like a spotlight. As they walked side by side, Rave's hand moved to take hold of hers, weaving their fingers together. He shot her a quick glance, just to make sure she didn't mind. "I know this one restaurant called The Early Eatery," He said. "Best breakfast in New York City, cross my heart. It's in Williamsburg, so it kind of has that hipster vibe to it, but that's about the only bad thing about it. The pancakes are the fluffiest I've ever had. How does that sound?" Despite all the talk of breakfast, that really wasn't the matter of interest. Instead, it was the way he was moving to walk just a tad bit closer to her. It was the little glances he shot her out of the corner of his eye. It was the grin that had stayed permanently stapled to his face ever since he got into the cab with her.

This felt nice.
