Ever since she could remember she was just different than other kids around her. Teen Years
By the time she was 13 Julia was taking university level courses and working towards her first degree, which she would receive by the age of 15. Within 2 years she had completed her Masters in Mathematics and began her doctoral studies. For Julia, learning was the most interesting thing in the world. The tiny amount of free time she had from her course work was spent learning (or creating) new languages, trying to learn what she could about other subjects or reading. Luckily, her parent's living in Boston put her within 30 minutes of both Harvard and MIT which allowed her to take all sorts of advanced classes.
As she grew up though she didn't exactly develop better social skills, while she could get by enough to interact with classmates and teachers it was extremely difficult for her to actually make friends when the people that she interacted with every day were usually at least 10 years older than her.
Personality
Though she hates to actually admit it, Julia is a genius. At least when it comes to math, science and literature from dead languages. While she may be proud of all the things she has accomplished and excited for all the things she likely will get to do in the future because of her intellect she knows that it sets her apart from other people. While she was always called 'special', 'gifted' or 'blessed' she also heard words like 'weirdo', 'freak' and 'know-it-all' used behind her back. To avoid being treated differently she often tries to hide her intelligence in the rare cases when she meets people outside of school.
Hobbies
Most of her non-educational entertainment is rather nerdy in nature, she plays chess, trading card games and tabletop games. She also has recently developed a bit of an obsession with online poker. She generally does well at any game where she can apply mathematics to and find 'optimal' lines of play, struggling more with situations where she needs to make decisions based on the choices of other people.
Relationships
Julia has two people that she would actually consider friends. Her oldest friend is a boy that lived beside her growing up, someone that never treated her differently because she was skipping grades and speaking in technical terms that he certainly never understood. The second friend is another 'child prodigy' like her, though this friend lives in Japan and the communicate primarily by email and text.
She has attended therapy once a week ever since she was 13 at the suggestion of her mother. While her parents tried their bests to help their daughter cope with the stresses of her high intensity study schedule and the ups and downs of being a child genius they felt that she needed someone she could talk to about anything without fearing judgement or getting in trouble.
