"In believing that the undead are living husks, you forget half of what makes them who they are. They are alive. They have lives of their own. Motivations that push them to do what they must to survive. I believe that is their strength. You don't fear death if you are already dead. In a life where you are forced to be alive, you're able to live the fullest. To be able to experience what others cannot. To be able to do something in your life that most can never fathom of achieving. To an extent, they seem to be more alive than those who have a beating heart. Never forget. The heart of a Vampire is one that requires multiple lifetimes to understand." - Newkes, The First Vampire.
Background
A small universe populating by floating continents over an ocean of blood. This is the realm of Vampires. The realm that the first vampire imprisoned their kind in as a punishment for becoming too power hungry. This is a world of warfare. War is a common occurrence among this violent subgroup of undead. Their pride, culture, and history brought them down to a bloody path where murder is looked up to. Those who are strongest survive in this world of chaos. Those caught in the middle were those unlucky enough to make up the weak majority of vampires. Those who sat at the top were considered the strongest of their respective groups, with those underneath them following their leaders out of envy and a thirst to get stronger. Resources were rather scarce as the ground was barren. Although the blood from the ocean underneath them was plentiful, is was nothing in comparison to the luxury of blood wine. Only those at the top were able to get a taste of this scarce substance. This pure liquid alone was enough to cause a conflict that could spur generations. Other times, wars were held just to break the monotony of peace. The reasoning behind it being, "If we have powers, there's no point of not using it." Another factor being that they can continue to come back after death was more than enough for war to be rather casual among the five kingdoms that held grounds within this scarlet universe.
The Five Kingdoms
Five kingdoms make up the major factions in this universe. Smaller groups also take hold of minor locations but they were nothing in comparison to the overall power of these major groups. Each faction held their own belief and code of conduct. Some decided war was below them, so they pursued peace and prosperity. Others believed there was never a time they shouldn't hone their abilities. It was all a drama that each vampire knew too well. This was life in the five kingdoms.
The Violet Kingdom
Those who dwelled in the Violet Kingdom kept values from long before modern times. Values such as nobility and honor were held in high respects between the vampires of this group. Those who were given land to rule over protected those who lived within them, vice versa those who lived within them provided their lords with food and materials for goods. They found strength in their respect to the old ways. Vampires from this group practiced their martial techniques to no end, being ones that focused on finesse and practice rather than raw power or intelligence. If one had to speculate the vampires closest to their traditional description, these vampires would be it. The monarch of this kingdom is known as Queen Viol of Et. Few ever escaped the clutches of her scarlet clawed gauntlets.
Newyx Republic
A faction of scientists and mages make up the ranks of the Newyx Republic. Initially started as a small group, these mages held their practice in secret. Focusing on the mastering of their minds rather than the silly demand for war from their neighbors. They are the most peaceful of the five kingdoms, although their strength is one that shouldn't be forgotten. They produce a wide range of spells, many known, and even many more unknown. As for their guide, they follow the teaching of Newkes, a mythological legend that was known as the First Vampire. Through intelligence and wisdom, they believe that they can bring back the vampire that even the gods fear. They are led by the one known as Lord Newyx. However, no one has ever seen or heard of this vampire. Only books speak about this vampire from times long past.
Dynasty of La Verduhn De Santo
A rather violent group in comparison to their neighbors. They believe that through numbers, they are capable of overwhelming their opponents. The population that live within their territory make up mainly slaves. Their specialty lies in manipulation as they get the spirits and otherworldly walkers to follow their whims. They have skills that bring fear to many that face them, afraid of becoming one of their enemy. Those who get captured by the people in this group never come back home. The vampires in this group learn to communicate and control creatures of different realms, along with manipulate their own state. To decide between summoners or illusionists is one that is difficult to make. The king of this family led kingdom is known as Sebastian the First. Rumors have it to where if one takes a glance at his eyes, their body is forfeit.
The Flaric Realms
Vampires who chose to become one with the flames they once called their enemies. This group lives on a continent of their own, unwelcoming to others. Although few in number, they are extremely power. The heat from the volcanoes that make up much of their terrain give them power and sustenance. Their flames are enough to burn most into a crisp from a large distance away. To combat these people effectively, one must be able to make use of heat resistant armor and weapons that could work from a distance. However, few have access to both of these necessities. Those foolish enough turn into a pillar of ash around their territory, left as a reminder to others of where they shouldn't set foot The Flaric Realms is led by a Vampire Pheonix hybrid known as Duke DeFlaric.
Empire of the Richtus
The engineering group of vampires is a rather interesting bunch. They wage war on whims, sometimes even doing so just to see how much damage their war machines can do. Fueled by floating above the volcano over the Flaric realms, they smith titan-like weapons of war. Their armored vehicles and smoke from their factories black the skies over any region they choose to settle, easily showing their locations. However, their fortresses are to be feared. Covered in traps and defensive tools, they remain almost impenetrable by nearly every one of the other kingdoms. Honor is something that isn't within their dictionary as they believe the old ways to be flawed. Currently, their ruler is known as The Machine. He was once a vampire who transformed himself into a bionic mech using the best tech that their group had to offer.
The Key
Each leader holds a single part of the Key of Newkes. A key that would give them access to the living world. Unfortunately for them, they had to choose between two options to escape the prison Newkes placed them in. Either they put aside their differences and become one again, or one group dominates the rest in combat and leads the vampire race to a new age. As prideful and ambitious creatures, the vampires instead chose the other route of war and destruction, leading to the stalemate that it is now. Five pieces of the key are needed to open the gate that locked them from the realm of the living. Four other kingdoms stood in the way of a new world.
Newkes, The First Vampire
Each of one the kingdom's heads say that they are a descendant of Newkes. The closer one was to Newkes, the stronger they were as older generations held more magical and physical power than those further down the lines. Many vampires believe him to be a myth. One that those who are in nobility use to say that they are like gods. However, the myth goes like this: The gods have had an enemy that was beyond their strength of eliminating. To combat this, a being was made. One that had no end to his life span. One that was powerful enough to control time itself. That being was Newkes. Under the guidance of the gods, he was given nigh unlimited powers and wisdom beyond all comprehension. However, during his reign, many of his children waged war on each other over pride. Due to this, he imprisoned them all into their own domain, breaking the key to the door and scattering it over the lands before leaving them. He was never seen since. Many believe that he fought in a battle against the Destroyer. Others say that he died in that battle. Only the gods know the truth. Now it was up to the vampires, to see where they would go next as a species. Will they never cease to fight?
Or will one day, one vampire lead them all to a world beyond the walls of the universe?
