David crouched behind a tree near the edge of a small wood. In front of him was a student apartment complex. The 16 year old knew that his older brother lived in an apartment here. He was the only person David felt safe to turn to. The teen felt a pang in his stomach and knew that his hunger was getting stronger again, but he didn't have time to try and find food. He wanted to see Nikolai before he went to bed.
The teen waited until there was no one wandering around who might see him. Then, he ran silently across the open ground to the patio behind his brother's apartment. David saw that his brother was alone in the living area. He seemed to be studying.
David had been missing from home for nearly a week. As much as he hated upsetting his parents, the teen knew he couldn't go back. The police would want to know where he'd been, and his parents would want to take him to see a doctor. Nikolai had always been close with his little brother, and he was the only one he could turn to now. David took a deep breath, and knocked softly on the glass.
